Well everyone here it is a new chapter, in our sweet Amelia's POV and she is much longer than the last. I hope you enjoy it and have a few questions answered.
Christmas seemed to end quickly, and upon reentry to Hogwarts...I found my lessons on Saturday with Professor Lupin were postponed until further notice..and my lessons with Professor Snape had increased. I didn't really mind all that much, but my brother and friends seemed to.
Izzy told me flat out. "Snape seems to be on edge."
I had to agree, but I didn't let that affect my opinion on him too much. He voluntarily did these extra lessons, I had no reason to complain. Greeting him how I always did, before we went to work.
March came, right as I was making good progress on creating false memories. "Miss Malfoy." Professor Snape greeted, it being the first day of spring. "I am going to be teaching you a few extra lessons, and I will be giving you graded assignments."
"Graded?" I asked, confused.
"Yes, I will be teaching you the skill to master Painilplity." He explained, shock entered my heart and soul. That was I didn't want to say dark magic because it had it's good intentions, so I will say it's grey...a very dark grey. "By the look you are giving me, I can assume you are aware of this craft."
"Yes sir, Painilplity is the ability to take on someone's marks." I whispered softly.
"That is partial, you take on their pain and marks." He explained calmly. "It is a technique that can be used in a torture situation to keep someone who has a lot of information silent. Protecting an ally if you will."
"It can also be used to manipulate someone else's mind." I was given a nod at this.
"Outstanding….I want a three parchment paper no more and no less on the subject. I want it on my desk by Friday." He told me.
"I won't let you down." I replied simply.
"Five points to Gryffindor." He replied simply, before moving around. "I will also be teaching you the tricks of Legilimens." His voice hardened when he spoke again. "As our lessons are private, you will be performing upon me….your goal is to navigate through my head, and try to break down my barriers…..if you repeat anything of what you might see…...our lessons will cease, and I will give you a P on your next assignment."
My eyes were huge. "Professor. I would never betray you like that." I whispered, a little hurt that he would think I would.
"I do not think that you would, but I am simply making sure." He told me, placing a hand upon my shoulder.
I met his coal like irises calmly. "You've never betrayed me."
He nodded simply, before backing up. "We will still continue your Occlumency lessons mind you, unfortunately the next step is to be a bit more forceful. I must warn you, it will not be pleasant….this room is soundproof so that if you need to cry or scream..you may do so."I
I looked at him in surprise, but honestly I wasn't very worried. This was Professor Snape after all, and I knew he wouldn't ever hurt me...He was just going to be quicker and forceful when rummaging. It was going to be uncomfortable, but this man would not hurt me. "I trust you."
"You keep saying that." He muttered, but his aura told me he enjoyed it. Just when I thought the man could not surprise me more, he knelt down to me. "Amelia…." Holy Hippogriff he used my first name. "I want to tell you that..you will always be safe in this castle, but as you know there is much darkness to be found...both in and-"
"Severus!" We both turned just in time to see Dumbledore walking in. "Please quickly, Sirius Black was spotted near the Shrieking Shack….oh hello Miss Malfoy." I was positive at this point, that this man was bipolar.
Professor Snape eyed the Headmaster. "Black, was spotted near the Shrieking Shack…...he must have used the Whomping Willow to get on the grounds."
"Yes, Severus I quite agree." Dumbledore replied simply, while looking at me. "I want both you and Miss Malfoy here to go."
"Albus…" Professor Snape drawled instantly. "We cannot endanger Miss Malfoy."
"I don't think Miss Malfoy will be in any danger, you two do seem to get along...and it would calm Minerva a bit if you took some back up." Dumbledore replied simply.
I looked at the two males in the room, not overly enjoying being spoken about as if I wasn't in the room. "With all due respect Professor Dumbledore...I truly would like to watch Professor Snape's back….but I made a promise to my Mum, not to place myself in danger." I explained gaining their attention. "I won't go back on my word, unless it is ultimately necessary."
"I see." Dumbledore muttered. "How about a compromise?"
"What?" Professor Snape asked, I could feel annoyance practically oozing out of him….and something else.
"Ah nevermind, I apologize Miss Malfoy. I should not ask this of a student." I watched as he turned and began walking back out.
Looking to Professor Snape calmly. "He is plotting...isn't he?" I asked softly, watching as the Potions Master looked at me carefully.
"Yes." He replied after a few minutes. "Unfortunately it may be better for you, if you come with me...I don't like it, but I will explain everything to your parents...or they do not have to find out at all."
"Professor Snape, that wouldn't be right." He nodded in understanding at my reply.
"We tell them it was Dumbledore's idea."
"Well it was." I replied calmly.
"Are you two quite finished with your conversation?" Looking back over to the older wizard. "I see you have both reached a conclusion…..wonderful!"
"He's nuts." A snort was well received from Professor Snape.
"Albus, I will be explaining that this was your idea. I hope you are prepared for Lucius's wrath." It was as if Professor Dumbledore did not care about that. As the next thing out of his mouth, my eyes went huge.
"Leave Lucius to me." I watched as the man left, before turning back to the other man in the room.
Professor Snape spoke before I could. "You are to stay behind me, at all times." He stated simply, eyeing me. "You are not to engage, unless you are attacked."
"I promise." I replied softly, as he moved about.
"Keep your wand at the ready." He added, before we were walking together. Me behind him, he moved quite quickly, as if he had thought about apprehending Black this entire year.
Upon reaching the willow tree, it was moving about...ready to strike. A sound caught my attention, as I turned towards Hagrid's hut. Confusion wracking through my brain, before a hand touched my shoulder. "Miss Malfoy?" The deep voice asked.
"I thought I heard….."I muttered before shaking my head.
Professor Snape followed my gaze, before he nodded. "The grounds can play tricks upon the mind." He told me simply, before he waved his arm in order to temporarily put the tree at rest. "Wand at the ready."
I did as told, before we descended into the roots of the old tree. Giving the man just enough space so not to run into him, but close, enough that I had a good visual of his dark silhouette. We came to a door, where we could hear several voices..four of which I knew.
Seemed the Golden Trio had caught on to the lead, and to my disbelief Professor Lupin could also be heard. "No.." I whispered, feeling foolish in trusting the man.
"Expelliarmus!" Professor Snape yelled, right as he opened the door. I peeked into catch the eye of Professor Lupin, I guess the betrayal in my heart must have shone through my irises. "Ah, vengeance is sweet. I had hoped I would be the one to catch you."
"Severus…" Lupin stated, I couldn't bear to think of him as a Professor any longer.
"I told Dumbledore you were helping your old friend into the castle. And, here is my proof." Professor Snape muttered.
The raggedy, yet handsome male that I guessed was the fugitive Sirius Black began walking closer. "Brilliant! And as usual-dead wrong! As usual." His gaze looked over to me. "You must be the product of my cousin and her husband..a Malfoy!" He stepped closer again. "Now! Give us our wands back, Remus and I have some unfinished-"
I watched as Professor Snape placed his wand at Black's neck. "Give me a reason. I beg you."
"Don't be a fool, Severus! Also Sirius please do not belittle Amelia...she was adopted by the Malfoy's not a product." Lupin spoke, surprising me.
"It's a habit by now!" Black taunted. "But, do I detect you protect the girl behind you-"
"Quiet Sirius!" Lupin hissed.
I listened as Professor Snape clucked his tongue in what I knew was a bit of amusement. "Listen to you two. Quarreling like an old married couple. The creature and the criminal." His voice hardened slightly. "You will not disrespect the only student that shows any real promise."
"Piss off!" Black hissed, he turned to me. "And you? Could you be the girl I heard so much about..really?" I met his eye simply, eyeing him before I saw his aura. It wasn't full of malice, but genuine fear….mistreated...innocent…"Ah Remus told the truth, you can see auras…..then you know I told the truth! That I was innocent!"
I looked down, before looking at Professor Snape. He seemed to be waiting for my word. "He's telling the truth...but he's still a fugitive. Seems we know why Dumbledore wanted me to come with you."
I watched as the onyx eyes narrowed, letting him search my head...before he pulled back with a sneer. "Regardless you have to make your case." His deep voice snarled. "Now, let's go."
"Expelliarmus!" Looking over quickly, to see Potter wielding his wand before Professor Snape went flying.
"Potter!" I screeched, before running to the fallen man.
"Harry!" I heard Granger gasp. "You just attacked a teacher."
0.o.0
I had been working on Professor Snape while the others had eventually left us behind, no surprise there. The surprise was finding out that Ron's rat was really the believed to be dead, Peter Pettigrew. But, I couldn't allow myself to really think about that. As I kept an eye on the man's pulse and healed what appeared to be a really nasty bump on the head.
Eventually to my relief, he grunted to life. "Merlin's balls what happened?" I stifled a laugh at his choice of words.
"A lot." I replied, which had his dark eyes locked on me. "Can you stand?"
"Miss Malfoy, was Mr. Potter the one who attacked me, as I recall?" He asked, all I did was nod as he stood. I followed close behind him. "You stayed behind, I see?"
I could hear the question in his voice. "Yes...I think they went through Whomping Willow….Ron was hurt after all." I explained, as we began to ascend back through the tree roots. Where Potter and his friends were indeed, but what caught my eye was Professor Lupin turning into a wolf.
Professor Snape grabbed me, pulling my body behind him, along with the Golden trio. Fear coursed through me, as Lupin smacked his claws against us. I fell alongside Granger, and the Professor. My hands moving to check on the man, thankful he wore many layers as he hadn't been scratched. "I'm alright." He muttered to me, and briefly I noticed Granger glancing at me with confusion.
"Sirius!" Potter shouted when a black dog attacked Lupin, pushing the werewolf out of our path and down toward the forbidden forest.
"Come back here Potter!" Professor Snape shouted, as the idiot ran after the two canines as they disappeared. "The three of you, go back to the castle….call on McGonagall and Dumbledore to hurry. Miss Granger, see that Mr. Weasley gets to the infirmary."
"Yes Professor." I heard Granger speak a little stiffly, before she and Ron began walking slowly.
"Will you be alright?" I asked the man.
His dark eyes met my grey ones. "Go call on McGonagall asked Dumbledore..when you are finished set out Dreamless Sleep and a Muscle relaxer in my office." He ordered, not giving me time to argue as he set off to go and get the idiot.
Sighing I moved quickly, not liking the idea of leaving him...but I knew he didn't want to place me in any more danger than I already was. Going with him to apprehend Sirius Black was one thing, chasing a werewolf was a whole other. Wouldn't stop me from sitting in his office till he returned, to make sure he was alright. I would tell McGonagall, and hope she would give me a pass this once. With that plan in motion, I walked to one of the most powerful witches I knew; thankful to find Dumbledore there as well.
"Professors!" I called, running to them.
"Miss Malfoy?" They both asked at the same time, curiously.
"Where is Severus?" Dumbledore asked curiously.
Taking a deep breath I explained everything as best I could. "Professor Lupin transformed, Professor Snape had to run after Potter to make sure he didn't get himself killed." I explained calmly, as calmly as I could. "Ron and Granger are in the infirmary, Ron was hurt."
"Did he get bit by Professor Lupin?" McGonagall asked softly, looking extremely concerned.
"No, he was hurt when Professor Snape and I got there." I explained calmly, before biting my lip. "Professor?"
"Yes, child?" McGonagall asked.
"Can I wait for Professor Snape to return, I'm worried?" I asked softly. "He asked me to set out Dreamless Sleep and Muscle Relaxer."
"If he is going to be taking them together, yes you may...you might have to help him to his room." Dumbledore replied for them both, using his wand to allow a note to appear. "Go on now, Severus will be there soon."
I nodded before walking down to the dungeons, moving to the office and walking inside. Going through his desk, in order to set out the proper potions he requested..along with a Tranquility Draught, just in case he wanted that one as well. Worry coursed through me, as I curled into my usual seat, my thoughts going everywhere. 'Was he alright?' 'Did he get scratched or bit?' 'Please still be alive!'
My thoughts didn't cease until the man walked into his office, I looked over at him to see he looked utterly exhausted. "Professor…" I breathed, seeing him limping slightly. "Are you alright?" Moving softly to him, allowing him to lean on me if he needed.
"Miss Malfoy, I assure you I am fine." He replied simply, but he allowed me to help him to his chair. "I see you brought out a Tranquility Draught, why?"
"Just in case you needed it." I replied, and by the sickly orange color of his aura I could tell it was a good idea. "I request you take it."
"The eyes of a seer are very peculiar." He muttered softly, while sitting down. "You do realize if I take these, I'm going to be a little….."
"High?" I asked simply, gaining an amused look.
He didn't take his eyes off me. "Why did you stay? Curfew is about to be in place." My response was to show him the note. "I figured you had that covered."
"I had to make sure you were alright." I replied calmly, using his desk as a seat.
"You do know why I requested you to go-"
"Of course, you didn't want me hurt….that and reprimanding Black would be an easier pill for my father to swallow, than chasing after a werewolf." I replied calmly, and he nodded. "Speaking of which, is Lupin going to be alright?"
"Not Professor?" Professor Snape questioned.
"I-" I looked down. "His aura was misleading...it showed he was genuine but-"
"You saw that Sirius Black was an innocent man, that it was Pettigrew who was the one who betrayed Potter's parents." Professor Snape replied calmly. "That means, Professor Lupin was indeed genuine...he believed in his long time friend."
I looked down at that. "You're not happy that I saw that though."
"I wasn't thrilled to find out that Black was innocent...but the real traitor was revealed." He replied, I could tell he was still not happy but I understood. Watching as he began downing the three potions, suddenly glad that I was sticking around. "You're not leaving are you."
"Not unless you can walk in a straight line." I replied, earning a glare.
"Don't get cheeky." He seethed, and I just grinned as I could hear the teasing in the underlining.
"Yes, Professor." I replied.
Dumbledore hadn't been joking when he said I would have to help Professor Snape to his sleeping quarters, which were dark and a bit dull. There was quite a bit of Slytherin pride dripping through the seams, such as a green comforter on the full sized bed...but mainly it was black or grey. There were books neatly scattered everywhere, which just seemed to fit the man perfectly.
"Amelia...you don't have to help me…." He slurred, as his weight was a bit forced upon me as I managed to get him laid down into bed.
"Nonsense, though you can use magic to dress yourself." I told him simply, which the drugged up man did. Even higher than a kite he was good with charms.
"Amelia." He muttered, which made me roll my eyes. Though I did like hearing him say my first name rather than, 'Miss Malfoy' all that time.
"Yes, Professor?" I asked calmly, unsure of whether I should actually leave him for the evening. Didn't want him to stumble and be left on the floor, with no help in his current state.
"Why are you so kind to me?" He slurred softly. "You've always treated me, the old bat of the dungeons with more dignity than I deserve."
"You deserve more." I replied calmly, while making sure he was warm. "Now, go to sleep."
"Yes, Princess." He muttered simply, his eyes closing simply. As I moved back to his sitting room, realizing even if I wanted to leave I couldn't get past his wards without waking him. This left me with very little choice, but to sleep on his couch.
Draco was going to have a field day, when he found out.
Our favorite part of the chapter, no?
1) How do you think Snape will react to Amelia on his couch?
2) How do you think Draco will react to learning Amelia slept on Snape's couch?
3) What will Lucius's reaction be about everything that happened in this chapter, from her being taught Painilplity to her sleeping in Snape's quarters.
