First Date
Hello, everyone. We are onto the Fs. This one was suggested by Kentme00. It's Ford- first date- post series. Enjoy.
Ford had just turned 16 and he had gotten quite a bit of money for his birthday. He decided that he wanted to take Cleo out for her birthday. After asking her parents if it was alright, Ford then had to actually ask Cleo. He decided to ask his brothers for help. He walked into the barn and saw Adam working.
"Adam, I was wondering if I could ask you something." Ford mumbled. Adam looked at Ford and saw that it was important. He stopped what he was doing and sat down on a bail of hay.
"Sure. Ask away." Adam sighed. Ford sat down next to Adam.
"I want to ask Cleo out on a date, but I don't know how."
"Well, first, you need to think about where you're gonna take her if she asks."
"I hadn't even thought about that."
"I know you earned quite a bit of money for your birthday. They're a nice place in Murphys that you can take her too."
"Ok."
"You even have enough money to get her flowers if she says yes. When are you gonna take her out?"
"Well, next Friday is her birthday. I was gonna take her out then."
"Just ask her. Ask her how she's celebrating her birthday and then if she isn't doing anything, ask her if she would like to go on a date. Just be yourself. She already likes you for who you are."
"How scared were you when you ask your first girlfriend out on a date?"
"I was pretty nervous. It's normal."
"Did she say yes?"
"No, she didn't want anything to do with me. She wasn't a nice girl though. Looking back, I don't even know why I asked her out. The second girl I asked out, said yes and I took her to that place and we had a good time."
"I was gonna ask the others what they think I should do."
"Uh, yeah, don't ask Brian, Daniel, or Evan. They have a success rate worse than anyone I've ever known. Brian has had more breakup and failures than the rest of us combined."
"Crane will only tell me what you just told me."
"Yeah, because I gave him the same advice."
The next day, Ford went to school and saw Cleo talking with her friends.
"Cleo, I want to talk to you." Ford said.
"Ok." Cleo answered. Ford looked at the other girls and sighed.
"I want to talk to you alone."
Cleo looked at her friends and they walked away.
"What do you want to talk to me about?" Cleo wondered.
"Your birthday is coming on." Ford answered.
"Yeah, next Friday."
"Well, do you have any plans?"
"No. Not that I know of. Why?"
"Well, I was wondering if..."
"What?"
"If you'd like to go to that restaurant in town."
"I'd like to if I had someone to go with."
"What about me?"
Cleo looked at Ford and saw that he was serious.
"Are you asking me out on a date?" Cleo wondered.
"Yes, I am." Ford answered. "I want to celebrate your birthday with you. Will you go out with me?"
"I'd love to."
"Ok."
Ford and Cleo hugged.
"What time do you want me to come to get you?" Ford asked.
"How about around 6 pm?" Cleo answered.
"Ok."
Ford went home and did his chores. Everyone could tell that he had had a good day, but only Adam knew why.
"Ford's in a pretty happy mood." Crane said.
"That means he did it." Adam answered.
"Did what?" Hannah wondered.
"Cleo's birthday is next Friday. He asked me for advice on how to ask her out."
"He asked Cleo out on a date?"
"Yep."
Ford came in smiling.
"Did you do it?" Adam wondered.
"She said yes." Ford exclaimed. "We're going out next Friday and I have to pick her up at 6 pm."
"6 pm? I have to have the jeep. Me and the boys have a gig." Daniel answered.
"You can get a ride." Adam stated. "This is Ford's first date. You and your friends have had plenty of gigs."
"Fine."
"If anything, I can take you and Cleo to town and then bring the truck back." Brian suggested.
"Thanks, Brian." Ford answered.
Hannah walked over and kissed Ford on the cheek.
"We're proud of you, Ford." Hannah said.
"Thanks." Ford answered.
Over the next week, Ford's nerves were through the roof. Friday came and Ford bought flowers for Cleo. He came home and went upstairs to get ready. He finished taking his shower and he went to his bedroom to get ready. He was almost ready when there was a knock at the door.
"Come in." Ford said. Adam walked in and looked at Ford.
"Nervous?" Adam wondered.
"Yeah. Was it this bad when you had your first date?"
"It was so bad that dad had to take us. I was shaking so bad, I couldn't drive."
"I'm not that nervous."
"You'll be fine. Just be yourself and be the kind of young man we all know you are."
"Ok."
Ford went to pick Cleo up. When he arrived, he knocked on the door and Cleo opened it.
"Hi." Cleo greeted.
"Hey. I got you some flowers. I hope you like them. Happy birthday." Ford replied. Cleo took the flowers and smiled.
"Pink and purple flowers. I love it. Thank you. Let me go put these in a vase. Then we can leave."
"Ok."
Cleo put the flowers in a vase and then went outside with Ford. Ford opened the passenger side door on the jeep and helped Cleo in.
"Thank you, Ford." Cleo thanked.
"Your welcome." Ford answered. He got into the jeep and started driving. When they got to the restaurant, they went in and walked over to a table. Ford pulled out the chair and Cleo sat down. Ford sat down across from her.
"I hope this isn't too expensive."
"Don't worry about it. Adam told me what to expect."
"Thank you for taking me out, Ford. This is the best birthday I've ever had."
"Your welcome."
They ate dinner and talked.
"You know in a couple of years, we'll be graduating. What are you going to do with your life?" Cleo wondered.
"I want to become a vet." Ford answered. "I've always loved taking care of animals."
"It sounds like your kind of job."
"What about you?"
"I don't know yet. What do you think I should be?"
"I think you'd be a good teacher."
"I'd like to be a teacher."
"Then you should do it."
"I wouldn't be smart enough."
"Yes, you are. You're the smartest girl I know."
"Thank you, Ford."
After dinner, they walked around town.
"It's a beautiful evening." Cleo sighed.
"Yeah, it is. Look, there's a star." Ford answered as he pointed into the sky.
"I see it."
Cleo looked around and then pointed into the sky.
"There's the moon." Cleo said. "It's so bright tonight."
Ford looked at Cleo and saw how beautiful she was. Cleo looked at Ford and saw him staring.
"What is it?" Cleo wondered.
"You're just so beautiful." Ford answered.
"Really?"
"Yeah."
Ford mustered up all the courage he had and kissed Cleo on the lips. They didn't know that Daniel and his buddies were driving by.
"Hey, Daniel. Isn't that your brother kissing a girl on the sidewalk?" Phil asked.
"Yeah, it is. Boy, am I gonna have fun with him when I get back tonight." Daniel laughed.
Ford and Cleo pulled away and but continued to look at each other.
"We should get going. It's almost 8 pm and I promised I'd have you home by 8:30." Ford said.
"Ok." Cleo answered. They got into the jeep and drove to Cleo's house. When they arrived, Ford helped Cleo out of the jeep. "I had a lot of fun tonight. Thank you, Ford."
"Your welcome. Maybe, you'd like to go on another date sometime."
"I'd like that. Thank you."
Ford kissed Cleo's cheek and waited til Cleo went inside before leaving. He drove home and saw his family waiting.
"How was it?" Hannah wondered.
"It was really great. We might go on another date sometime." Ford answered.
"Did you kiss her?" Guthrie asked.
"Guthrie!" Adam scolded.
"We did kiss." Ford replied.
"Hey, Adam, our shy little brother is growing up." Brian chuckled.
"Where have you been? He's been grown up." Adam answered.
4 hours later, Daniel came home and saw that Adam, Brian, Crane, and Hannah were up.
"Hey, Brian. Brian, guess what I saw." Daniel said.
"Ford and Cleo kissing?" Brian wondered.
"Yeah, Ford and Cleo... wait. How did you find out?"
"Ford told us when he came home." Adam answered. "So if you're planning on picking on him... it won't work."
"That just ain't fair." Daniel grumbled.
Daniel went to bed and the four laughed.
"We blew his fun." Crane chuckled.
"Yeah, we did." Adam answered.
"You guys are mean." Hannah stated.
"Well, it's an ugly job, but someone has to do it."
