Hello guys! I am back with another chapter. It was really fun writing this chapter to be honest. And a big thank you to all those who are showing their support to this fanfic. It really means a lot guys!
spiffy2143- Thank you for all the reviews. I really wanted to write a fanfic where Hermione would go back in time alone but I figured she would need someone to be there for her from the start.
QHLuver- Thank you! I'm not going to reveal who they are going to end up with but you'll see although it might take us some chapters to reach that part because Hermione and Ginny would still be grieving over Ron and Harry.
There was also someone who asked for an update. I am glad that you like this story but the updates might be a little bit slow because I try to write 4-5 chapters in advance so that I can make minor changes in the story easily before updating the chapters.
Another thing that I wanted to ask was if anyone was interested in being the beta for this fanfic. I have the general idea of where this story is going but I still need some ideas regarding some of the scenes. And it would be great if someone could read the story before I publish the chapters to see if there are any plot errors or anything like that.
Now on with the story. I do not own Harry Potter and its characters.
After a much needed shower, Ginny was about to exit the dorm when her eyes fell on a parchment sticking out from one of the drawers. When she took it out, she realized it was the Marauders map. She didn't know what made her do it but she had a strong feeling about it. So she looked around the room to make sure no one was there, tapped her wand on the blank parchment and whispered "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good."
The blank parchment turned into the map. Ginny started looking at it and saw that most of the students were already in the Great Hall. She was about to close the map thinking that everything was okay when her eyes fell onto the name of two people in an empty classroom on the second floor- Avery and Peter Pettigrew.
Ginny tapped the map again with her wand "Mischief managed" and after putting it safely back in Hermione's drawer, she took out Harry's invisibility cloak from Hermione's beaded bag and set off towards the second floor.
She managed to reach the classroom without anyone seeing her. She heard voices inside the classroom so she moved closer to the door trying to hear everything.
"-not possible. You don't understand. There's something strange going on with them." She recognized Peter's voice.
"What do you mean? They seem like two normal stupid Gryffindors to me." The other voice, that must have belonged to Avery, said.
"No, they are not. They know things. Things that no one should be able to know. At first I thought they were the Dark Lord's spies." Peter said
"I asked Lucius Malfoy myself. The only spy that we have in the Gryffindor house is you." Avery said
"So if they are not his spies, then it means they could be working for Dumbledore. James and Sirius even believe that their story about their home being attacked is just a cover-up." Peter told Avery "And I-I think...I think they know that I am working for the Dark Lord."
"What do you mean?" Avery asked alarmingly
"At first I-I thought it was all in my head. They have always acted so cold towards me even though I haven't given them any reason to be suspicious. And when I accused them of being death eaters, Ginny Weasley j-jinxed me. She even told Remus that I, of all people, didn't have the right to say that she and Hermione were D-Dark Lord's spies."
Avery sighed "I'll tell the others then. If what you are saying is true, then we need to take care of those two before they create any problems for us. All you need to focus on is not blowing your cover."
Ginny heard footsteps coming towards the door so she quickly backed up and covered herself with the invisibility cloak. She watched Avery leave first and after a few seconds Peter also came out of the room and went towards the great hall.
After making sure no one was around, Ginny took off the cloak and processed everything that she heard on her way to the Great Hall.
Hermione was sitting in the Great Hall waiting for Ginny. She wondered why it was taking Ginny so long. She kept looking at the door as other students entered but no sign of Ginny. She saw Peter Pettigrew enter and a minute later she spotted Ginny entering the Hall too. As Ginny made her way over to Hermione, Hermione heard the marauders ask Peter where he was. She also heard Peter say that he was in detention.
Ginny sat down in front of Hermione and started piling food on her plate.
"What took you so long?" Hermione asked curiously as she started eating too. She noticed that Ginny was in some deep thoughts "Hey, what is it?"
Ginny sighed "We need to talk. After dinner. Somewhere private."
"Okay" Hermione was not sure what Ginny wanted to talk about so she decided to wait.
After dinner, while everyone was going towards their common rooms, Hermione and Ginny sneaked off to the 7th floor. They reached the tapestry of Barnabas the Barmy trying to teach the trolls how to ballet. After making sure that no one was around, Hermione walked three times in front of the blank wall and the room of requirement appeared.
Hermione and Ginny entered the room which now resembled the Gryffindor common room. Hermione sat on the couch in front of the fireplace while Ginny started pacing.
"Ginny, what's going?" Hermione was really worried now.
"We were wrong about Wormtail." Ginny said
"What are you talking about?" Hermione asked in confusion.
"We thought we could save him from going over to the bad side, from betraying his friends. But he's already working as a spy for Voldemort, Hermione."
Ginny told Hermione about how she saw Avery and Peter in the Marauders map and their conversation that she heard outside the classroom.
"What are we going to do?" Ginny asked Hermione as she sat down beside her.
"There is no use in telling James, Sirius, Remus or Lily. They won't believe us at all. We need to tell Dumbledore. And Ginny..." Hermione said in a serious tone "We can't underestimate Wormtail or the other Slytherins working for Voldemort. Now that they are suspicious of us, they will take some action to get us out of the way. We have to be careful now. And as for Wormtail, we have to make sure that he doesn't hurt someone now. We have to try to expose him. The others won't believe us unless we show them some proof."
"And how will we do that?" Ginny asked
"I don't know, but we'll figure it out." Hermione tried to reassure both herself and Ginny.
After finding out whose side Wormtail was on, Hermione and Ginny went to talk to Dumbledore the next day. When they told him, Dumbledore was really concerned but he assured them that he would keep an eye on Wormtail. He also warned Hermione and Ginny to be cautious and not do anything rash as their lives could be in danger.
A week had passed since Hermione and Ginny had their detention with Serena. It turned out that Serena was really fun to hang around with. Although her brother was still missing and she was really worried about him, she was still sweet and helpful to everyone, especially Hermione and Ginny. After the marauders and the girls had stopped talking to Hermione and Ginny, Serena tried to be there for them in every way possible, to make them feel welcome at Hogwarts.
But Hermione and Ginny knew that the marauders and the girls were still really suspicious of them and it wouldn't be long before they did something.
When Hermione shared her concerns with Ginny, Ginny said "Well, we'll deal with it then. We've faced situations worse than this. We'll figure something out."
Hermione raised her eyebrows, "You are in a really good mood. What happened?"
"It's the Hogsmeade trip tomorrow, remember? And..." Ginny said excitedly "It's 19th September tomorrow! Your birthday!"
"You're right" Hermione realised "I almost forgot. But Gin, I don't want to celebrate my birthday. It just feels wrong to celebrate it after everything that's happened. Besides, I can't celebrate it, not without..." Hermione faltered.
Ginny knew what Hermione meant. She took Hermione's hand "I know. I miss them all too. Look, I won't insist if you don't want it but you were the one who told me that they would've wanted us to be happy, remember? You were the one who told me I couldn't stop living, who encouraged me to join the Quidditch team."
Hermione knew Ginny had a point "You're right. Besides, we could finally get a break from all these assignments."
Ginny chuckled "Hermione Granger complaining about homework . I never thought I'd see the day!"
So Peter Pettigrew is not as innocent as everyone thought, is he? What do you think Avery is going to do?
