"Alright... Follow me," he said, changing the subject. He beckoned to follow him to a snow barrier he had formed. "Got some ammo right here." He handed me a bunch of snowballs.
I asked, "So I just throw these at Rosie?"
"Yep. Just do it." I tossed the snowball, only for it to fall flat in front of us. "Try again," Jack encouraged. I threw another snowball, this one with all my might. It flew across the yard and hit Rosie.
"Ha! I actually got her!" I celebrated. I was immediately hit with a return shot. "Oh..."
"Keep 'em coming, Charlie! I've got plenty of snowballs left!" I heard Rosie yell.
The three of us kept at it, throwing snowballs at each other. I haven't had this much fun in a long while! I enjoyed throwing snow at Rosie and having her return the favor. I even betrayed Jack a few times and threw some at him. I was having the absolute time of my life... until I threw one particular snowball. It flew past Jack, and Rosie was able to dodge it... rather easily. Everything seemed to go in slow-motion as the snowball made impact with Jill.
"Ack... Huh?" she asked, looking at the snow that was just thrown at her.
"Oh no..." I heard Jack say.
"W-What do you mean, 'oh no'?" I asked.
Jill began walking over to me. "Charlie, did you throw that snowball?"
"Y... Yeah..." I stammered.
"Well..." she said, chuckling. "Did I ever tell you I'm a snowball expert?" She picked up a pile of snow. "I do need to pay you back for that one... and everyone knows revenge is best served... cold..." She held up her snowball with an abnormally evil grin.
"Run!" I heard Jack and Rosie both yell from behind me. I did as they said. I blindly ran, trying to dodge the snowballs that were now being thrown at me. I thought I was reeling off-track until I heard Jack yell, "Over here!" I ducked behind his snow shield with him and Rosie.
I frantically asked, "W-What is with her?"
"The reason I said not to get her involved? She's really good at snowball fights... blood-thirsty, even," Jack said.
"Blood-thirsty?!" Rosie and I exclaimed.
"The only way to get her to stop is to give up or take her down," Jack instructed.
Rosie stood up and proclaimed, "Well, I'm not going to show her any mercy!" She turned to Jill and yelled, "Come and get me!" I couldn't see what was going on, but I heard a loud thump, as if she was hit with snow. "Mercy, mercyyyy!" Rosie yelled. She ran back crying to the safety of my campsite.
"R-Rosie! What the-" I began before hearing Jack groan. I turned and saw him with a pile of snow on his back. "Jack! She got you, too?"
"Y... Yeah..." Jack moaned. He could barely even get his words out. "I'll be fine, just... go and get her..." He began crawling back to the camp.
It was just the two of us left. "Okay..." I said to myself. "I'll need to find a way to dodge her snowball attacks and ambush her myself... but how would I do that?"
"How about you start by turning around?"
My eyes felt like they would pop out when I heard that voice. My heart pounded out of my chest as I turned to see Jill right behind me, holding a giant snowball with my name on it. Before I knew it, my vision went completely white. The snow was all over my face, and some even trickled down my coat. I cringed as the cold stuff touched my skin and dampened my clothes.
Shivering and upset, I cried, "Y... You win... I surrender..."
Jill just smiled and helped me up. "I really nailed you hard, didn't I?"
"Y... Yeah..."
"Well, it's over now. Let's go warm up back at your camp," she suggested. I followed her back to my campsite. As recompense for the snow war defeat, she laid towels on the couch and got me a blanket from my crib.
"You okay?" Jack asked from the other couch, across from me.
"Yeah," I said, thankful for Jill's sudden kindness. "I'm actually starting to warm up a bit now..."
Rosie put her paw to her nose. "You're also beginning to smell a bit now... Phew!"
"Hmm?" I asked. I shuffled a bit in my seat. I didn't even realize until then that I had pooped myself out there. "Heh-heh..." I nervously chuckled, my cheeks burning from the blushing.
Jill put her hand on my shoulder. "Don't worry, I'm actually wet myself. I'll get you cleaned up... again." She winked at me. I got up and smiled back.
As I walked with her to my changing mat, I looked up and noticed that the snow had stopped. I began pondering about other snow activities. "Hey, Jill? Do people do anything else in the snow? Stuff that isn't so... violent?"
"Well... yeah, there's a lot more. You could hang out in an igloo or snow fort, make a snowman, sled down hills..." Jill explained.
I was mystified. "Do you... Do you think you could show me these things some day?"
"If it snows again, sure," she said. "Looking forward to it."
I smiled. "Me too," I said. I looked up at the clouds, eager for another snowflake to fall in the future.
