"Chaka?" - Kopa
Chapter 29: Happy Reunion
"Is it really you?" Kopa asked his voice getting a bit louder as tears started to form in his eyes.
"Yes," Chaka said, a smile on his face, as tears began to form in his eyes as well. "It's me, Kopa." Kopa stared at Chaka again to see if this was really his brother. It then suddenly hit him that this lion was most definitely Chaka. Those are the same emerald eyes when Kopa last saw Chaka at six months old. He even had the same light brown coat from when he was six months old. And most of all, the tail tuft was black. The only thing that's changed was the vertical scar across his left eye and his voice. Chaka's voice has deepened a bit as well as his.
"Chaka..." Kopa choked. Kopa couldn't take it anymore and ran over to his brother and embraced him, tears rolling down his face. Chaka embraced his brother back, tears also rolling down his face.
"I can't believe it's actually you Chaka," Kopa sobbed, still embracing his half-brother.
"I can't believe it either," Chaka said, still embracing Kopa. "I can't believe that it's really you Kopa. After a year and four months of separation, we finally meet each other again." After five minutes, the brothers finally pulled apart.
"B-But how?" Kopa asked. "You're still alive? Kamaria and Nadia told me you were dead."
"I told them to say to you that I was dead," Chaka said.
"Why?" Kopa asked.
"I didn't want you to know I was alive earlier," Chaka explained. "And I think us reuniting a bit later, in my opinion, is a better option."
"Well that wait was definitely worth it," Kopa said. "I'm just glad to see you again bro."
"Me too," Chaka said.
"I really should to tell mom that you're alive," Kopa said.
"No!" Chaka cried out. "Don't tell mom!"
"Why not?" Kopa asked, confused.
"Not now," Chaka said. "I don't want her to find out that I'm alive now. I think I should reunite with her later."
"Why later?" Kopa asked, still confused. "You've reunited with me, but you don't want to reunite with mom now?"
"I'm not comfortable reuniting with her now," Chaka stated. "I think reuniting with you first is a better idea then reuniting with mom."
"Well ok then," Kopa said, not liking how Chaka doesn't want to reunite with their mother now. "It's really your choice. I can't force you to do things you don't like to do."
"Well thank you, Kopa," Chaka replied with a smile. After a minute of silence, Chaka then said, "Kopa wanna spend time with me the whole day? We really do need to catch up."
"I most certainly agree with you," Kopa said, returning the smile. "We haven't done that in ages. So I'm more than willing to spend the rest of the day with you."
"Glad to hear it, Kopa," Chaka said, still smiling. "But I'm going to tell Damu this."
"Same goes to Kamaria," Kopa replied. "I'll tell her she can go back."
"Let's head out then," Chaka said. With that, the brothers exited the cave.
As Kopa and Chaka exited the cave they approached Kamaria and Damu. "Kamaria you can head back to the Pride Lands," Kopa said.
"Are you sure Kopa?" Kamaria asked, the concern clear in her voice. "Are you sure you're going to be okay?"
"Yeah," Kopa said reassuringly. "I'll be fine."
"Well," Kamaria began, still not sure. "Well ok then. I guess I'll see you later." With that, the pale lioness left.
"Damu," Chaka began. "Wouldn't you mind me spending the rest of the day with Kopa?"
"Of course," Damu replied with a smile. "I mean this is a special day for both of you. You both can spend your time alone."
"Thank you, bro," Chaka said, giving Damu a smile. Then he turned to his littermate and said, "Let's get rollin' Kopa. We are going to have the best day in forever." With that, Chaka ran off.
"Hey, you cheater!" Kopa exclaimed, running after Chaka.
Chaka reached the watering hole with Kopa right behind him. "Ha!" Chaka exclaimed. "I win!"
"Damn it," Kopa cried out.
"Sorry bro," Chaka said with a grin. "If you were faster than you would have won."
"Psh," Kopa scoffed. "If I had run with you then I would have won."
"Heh," Chaka said with a laugh. "If that was the case." Chaka then jumped into the watering hole.
"Of course he does this," Kopa muttered. Then suddenly, Chaka came out of the water and dragged Kopa into the water. Kopa then came out of the water after a few seconds. He clattered his teeth, freezing. Just then Chaka came out of the watering hole. Kopa looked back at Chaka with a smirk then pushed Chaka back into the watering hole. Chaka then came out of the water and immediately came jumped out of the water to chase after his brother.
A few minutes Chaka had caught up with Kopa and tackled him to the ground, both of them rolling on the grass. Both of them laughed as they were now laying on their backs staring at the sky. "This is most definitely the best day ever," Kopa said happily. "I am very glad that this is reality.
"I agree with you," Chaka replied. "I'm very grateful that you're alive too."
"If this were a dream then I'd be so upset right now," Kopa said.
"Most definitely agree with you," Chaka replied. "It'd most definitely sucked if this was all a dream and we wake up realizing that we won't after all see each other again."
"I'd for that to happen," Kopa muttered. After a while of silence, Chaka got up to his feet. "Hey, Kopa would you like to come with me to hunt?" Chaka asked, looking at Kopa.
"Wait you hunt here?" Kopa asked, unable to hide the surprise.
"Of course I do," Chaka replied. "I don't do much here. So I ask one of the lionesses in the pride to give me some hunting lessons. And I'm very glad that I got them."
"Mind if you teach me how to hunt?" Kopa asked. "I mean I'd love to hunt too."
"Sure," Chaka replied with a smile. "Follow me." With that, Chaka motioned his brother to follow him and both went to the hunting area in the Rock Lands.
Later that night, Chaka and Kopa were laying in the same spot they laid earlier that day. They had decided to stargaze for the first time in 20 months. "The stars are beautiful tonight," Chaka replied, laying on his back as he stared at the stars.
"The same night when we first stargazed together 20 months ago," Kopa replied, as he too, was laying down on his back and also staring at the stars.
"That night was probably the first time in our life that we ever saw stars," Chaka said. "I'm just glad I'm now able to see these beautiful stars every single day."
"Agreed," Kopa said with a nod. "It'd suck if we were still living under Scar's tyranny reign."
"Yeah and I'd still be getting beaten by father," Chaka said with a frown, remembering how Scar treated him when he was a cub. "I'm just glad that father is dead now and will never hurt me again."
"I'm glad my dad is dead too," Kopa said.
"Wait you're glad your father is dead?" Chaka asked, shocked that his brother would say such a thing.
"Yeah," Kopa said with a sigh. "After what he's done to mom I'm honestly quite glad he's dead."
"What did your father do to mom?" Chaka asked, curious to know.
"Well," Kopa began with a sigh. "Here it goes.." With that, Kopa explained to Chaka on what happened between Nala and Asante. After Kopa was finished, Chaka was absolutely shocked.
"So your father physically and emotionally abused you?" Chaka asked, his emerald eyes wide as he looked at his brother.
"Yep," Kopa replied with a nod.
"And then he seduces mom?" Chaka said.
"Yep," Kopa replied again with a nod.
"I swore your father was a nice lion," Chaka said, still shocked at what Kopa had told him. "How can he do such cruel things to you and mom?"
"I have no idea," Kopa said sadly. "But how do you know that my father was a nice lion?" Kopa was now looking at his brother.
"I met him once," Chaka admitted.
"You did?" Kopa asked, unable to hide the surprise in his voice.
"Yeah," Chaka said softly. "He was nice to me."
"He was nice to you?" Kopa asked, his voice rising with anger. "And yet he couldn't be nice to me and mom?"
"I... don't know what to say there really," Chaka said.
"How did you and my father meet in the first place?" Kopa asked, curious to know.
When Kopa said that part, a flashback went through Chaka's mind.
Flashback - when Chaka and Kopa were three months old
"Finally a freakin' day off," Chaka said with an annoyed tone. He usually wasn't given any days off from his lessons because of his father Scar. But because Scar was lazy today, Chaka had free time in his hands. "For freakin' once," he muttered, rolling his emerald eyes in the process.
"What are you doing out here all alone?" a voice asked. Chaka gasped and saw Kopa's father, Asante, standing there.
"H-Hello sir," Chaka stammered nervously. "W-What are you doing here in the Pride Lands?"
"Just looking for Kopa," Asante said. Chaka's eyes went wide in shock. "What's wrong kid?" he asked.
"Y-Your looking for Kopa?" Chaka asked.
"Yes," Asante replied. "Why is that your concern?"
"He's my brother," Chaka confirmed. Asante's eyes went wide in surprise when he heard Chaka say this.
"He's your brother?" Asante asked, shocked at what he heard.
"Yeah," Chaka replied. "You must be his father right?"
"I am indeed," Asante said. "Have you seen him?"
"He's playing with his friends right now," Chaka informed his "step-father". "Why do you ask?"
"Is your mother with him?" Asante asked.
"She's out hunting at the moment," Chaka said. "So the answer is no."
"Good," Asante said with an evil smile. Chaka did not notice the evil smile on Asante's face and just thought it was just a normal smile. "Bring him to me. I want to spend some time with him today."
"Sure," Chaka said with a smile. "See ya," he called as he raced to go find Kopa.
"See ya next time kid," Asante called after his "step-son". Chaka did not hear Asante's evil laugh as he kept running to find his brother.
End of flashback
When the flashback finished, Chaka then proceeded to tell Kopa how they met, and what Asante had told him.
"That does not sound nice to me," Kopa said after Chaka was finished explaining.
"What are you talking about?" Chaka asked confused.
"When you said my dad wanted to spend time with me alone that does not sound friendly at all," Kopa explained. "He clearly wanted to make sure that mom wasn't around when he does his things. And that day was the day he hit me."
"What?!" Chaka cried out.
"Yep," Kopa replied with a frown.
"Was that why you had numerous amounts of bruises on your body the next day?" Chaka asked, shocked.
"Sure was," Kopa said. "My dad really was a pain that day."
"Yeah fathers aren't perfect," Chaka replied with a frown. Then after a minute of silence, he said, "How are things in the Pride Lands?"
"Doing just fine," Kopa replied. "Simba is doing an amazing job being king. Although he is overprotective, he is the way he is because he wants no one harmed."
"Has anything changed between you and Kibwe?" Chaka asked, curious to know if Kopa and Kibwe have a better relationship.
"Nope," Kopa replied with a frown. "Nothing has changed between us. Kibwe is still a pain in my ass. He will not stop talking shit about you. Nor will he stop being an arrogant ass."
"Sucks to be you," Chaka replied.
"It really does," Kopa said, still frowning. Then after another a minute of silence, he said, "You should come back to the Pride Lands. Mom would be so overjoyed seeing you alive."
"I can't go back to the Pride Lands," Chaka said, getting up to his feet.
"Why can't you go back?" Kopa asked in disbelief.
"You wouldn't understand Kopa," Chaka said quickly.
"What wouldn't I understand?" Kopa asked, a bit irritated as he got up to his feet.
"Look, Kopa," Chaka said with a sigh, not facing his brother. "I don't think I can go back. I wouldn't be accepted back into the Pride Lands. Just because Simba is a good king like you said, that doesn't mean that he's going to welcome me back into the Pride Lands. He's most likely going to reject me because I am Scar's son."
"Chaka," Kopa began, getting irritated. "He's welcomed back those that Scar exiled. He unexiled them. And I think Simba would be willing to accept you back too. And just because your Scar's son doesn't mean you're going to be anything like him. You're forgetting that you're also mom's son too. So what makes it any different?"
"Everything," Chaka stated. "Simba's most despised enemy is Scar. And if I go back Simba will be reminded of that sick monster. That's why I can't go back."
"Chaka you're being paranoid right now," Kopa said. "I think Simba would most definitely accept you back into the Pride."
"That's easy for you to say, Kopa," Chaka said softly. "He may have easily accepted you but he may not accept me. Like I said I'm Scar's son. And once more, Simba does not like Scar. And he most definitely wouldn't want to be reminded of his uncle."
"Chaka.." Kopa began.
"Kopa can we please just forget that we're even talking about this right now?" Chaka interrupted. "I really don't want to go back." Chaka looked at his brother with pleading eyes.
"Alright," Kopa said after a minute. "I'll drop the subject."
"Thank you, Kopa," Chaka replied. "That's all I ask." Then suddenly, Chaka realized that it was going to be morning soon. "Oh shit," he gasped.
"What?" Kopa asked. "Chaka bro what's wrong?"
"It's very close to sunrise," Chaka said, pointing up to the sky where it was getting lighter.
"Oh crap," Kopa gasped. "I am going to get in SO much trouble now."
"Well Kopa if that's the case I'll see you in another time," Chaka said.
"Yeah," Kopa said quickly. "See ya at another time." With that, Kopa gave his brother a quick nuzzle before dashing off back to the Pride Lands. Chaka too decided to head back to the royal cave.
As Kopa returned to Pride Rock he was greeted by his very angry mother. "Kopa where were you?!" Nala asked angrily. "Do you even realize that it's nearly morning and that you were gone all day yesterday?!"
"I was?" Kopa asked, trying to sound surprised but failing. "I had no idea I was gone for this long." As Kopa said that part, he was trying to act dumb.
"Kopa you know well that you were gone for that long," Nala said, still sounding angry. "And don't try to play dumb with me. You should have told me that you were going to be gone for this long."
Kopa opened his mouth to lie even more but the look on his mother's face made him realize that she wasn't playing around. "You're right mom," he said. "I should have told you that I was probably going to be out for this long. I'm sorry that I didn't tell you. But you also do know that I'm not a cub anymore. I'm now a teenager and I can be out for as long as I want."
"It's alright Kopa," Nala said in a calmer voice after a minute. "I know that you're not a cub anymore can stay out as long as you want. But please don't forget that I'm your mother and will worry about you if you're not around all day. And I'm sorry that I got mad at you."
"No it's okay mom," Kopa said with a small smile. "I understand why you were mad at me. After all, you are my mother like you said. But now I'm going to go get sleep. I'm pretty beat and tired after an energetic day." With that, the mother and son headed inside the cave.
As Kopa got inside the royal cave, he was shocked to see everyone still sleeping.
"That's odd," Kopa thought to himself. "Did the pride sleep late by any chance? If they did, then I could get some good sleep for the day." With that, Kopa went to his sleeping spot in the cave to get some good sleep. But before he went to sleep he thought, "I wonder why Chaka is the way he is. Is it because he's just nervous? Is it because of Simba? If he's thinking that Simba won't accept him back, then right now he's just being paranoid. Simba has accepted three lionesses back into the Pride Lands after Scar was dethroned. So I'm not so sure why he's acting the way he is right now. But for now, I will continue to meet him by the Rock Lands without Mom and Simba noticing." With that, Kopa put his head in his paws to get some good sleep.
Meanwhile, Chaka returned to the royal cave of the Rock Lands and went to his sleeping spot in the cave. He laid down and put his head in his paws to get some good sleep after an amazing day with Kopa. He just prayed that Kopa wouldn't Nala that he was alive. He would get mad at him if he did tell Nala. So with some awesome thoughts of his brother, Chaka finally fell asleep.
A/N: Yay! Chaka and Kopa have finally spent some good quality brotherly time together! But Chaka Chaka Chaka... I don't know what to say to you.
And before any asks, why doesn't Chaka want to meet Nala now? Chaka is not ready to face her. He's too nervous to even meet her. It has been nearly two years that he's even seen her. The last time Chaka saw his mother was when he was a month old, but he was talking at the time. So yeah, there's your answer. Chaka right now is a year and ten months old (22 months old). He's the same age as Kopa but was born first.
Anyways, that's it for Chapter 29! See you all later in Chapter 30!
