Kyouya breaches the water's surface when his human coughs for him in the human language.

Kyouya rises up to see Fon sitting cross-legged by the edge of the rock ledge, the small platform hidden from view of the docks by looming cliffs. The human sets down a paper bag with an odd smell emanating from it.

Kyouya swims closer and pushes himself up onto the high ledge, the lower half of his tail still in the water. "What is that?"

Fon sees the nod towards it and reaches into the paper bag, bringing out fish covered in something crunchy.

"It's tempura," Fon says in the human language.

"What do you use it for?" Kyouya wonders.

Fon takes a bite and then holds out the rest. Kyouya nibbles, contemplates this, then swallows the rest down.

"The food in this country is wonderful," Fon explains. "I would like to show you more, but I highly doubt you'd follow me."

Fon pulls out another piece of the human food and holds it out. Kyouya steals the entire bag instead. They eat together for a while, only the sound of the waves splashing gently against the rocks.

Fon tilts to the side, elbow on one knee and chin in hand. "You can have legs but you always seem so uncomfortable, especially wearing clothes."

Kyouya drops the bag onto Fon's lap and flops back into the water. "Not bad. Not good either, but I wasn't expecting much from you."

"It would be nice to travel with you further but I'm not so selfish to demand it when you'd be uncomfortable," Fon admits.

Kyouya looks away and then back again, becoming solemn. "Listen, human. We need to have a talk."

"This might be goodbye," Fon muses.

"I can't keep taking care of you," Kyouya explains as gently as he can manage.

"It has been…interesting, this adventure of ours."

"These other humans, they've left the coral now. Made their own way in the world." Kyouya pushes up on the ledge and pats Fon on the knee. "At first, I thought you were weak. I was correct. But you are stronger than you know, little human."

Fon smiles and pats Kyouya on the shoulder. "Do you even understand me?"

"I thought I could keep you," Kyouya sighs. "But human pets are far more difficult to take care of than I thought."

Fon gestures behind him. "I'll be going inland now, and I don't think you'd like it very much."

"I need to be constantly following you," Kyouya complains. "You don't eat what I give you, you can barely swim, and you certain can't defend yourself. It's tiring! There, I said it; you humans are difficult to raise."

"Maybe we can meet again someday," Fon hopes.

"But if you get into trouble…" Kyouya pauses. "You can find me and I will take care of you again."

Fon indicates that he's going inland now. Kyouya nods slowly and disappears under the waves. They both begin a new journey.

If nothing else, this adventure has been an interesting tale to share.
