Chapter Twenty-Six: Happy

As I arrive to the rest of Edward's family, the mood is totally different. It's one of hope this time, that a new life will enter ours and perhaps repair what had been broken. Esme and Carlisle approach me, Esme takes my hand.

"Emmett is in there with her. They won't let anyone but the father in because it's a C-Section," Esme says.

"She must be so scared," I am freaking out.

"I can go check on her," Carlisle nods.

"No you don't," Esme grabs his arm, "we need to speak with Bella and apologise."

"What for?" I play dumb.

Carlisle clears his throat and steps forward to put his arm around me.

"I was wrong. You were right. I have to turn off the doctor every now and then, but I just wanted my son to be safe. I thought he was in pain. All the scans, the operation. The doctors all told me he would be suffering had it not been for medication or the machines keeping him alive. You trusted your instinct and had hope. Doctors often forget to find hope when they see a patient because they work off fact," Carlisle says, "but I truly believe you did this. I can't tell you how sorry I am."

I nod, biting my lip. If I speak I'll break. This day had been such an emotional rollercoaster and I didn't need another twist.

"Our son has found his soulmate and I'm thankful for you. He and I have a lot to discuss, but now I've been given a second chance I want him to follow his heart. I need to have more faith in his decisions and be here to catch him if he fails," Carlisle is fighting back tears, "I love him and I hate that you may think any different. I love him and I love you. I've gained two daughters out of this, and I'm truly blessed."

Moving into his chest I wrap my arms around him, giving him a big hug.

"You're an amazing doctor, but that's separate from parenting. I know you know that. But Edward separated doctor from love and look where it led him. You raised an incredible person, so now you need to let him be that," I say.

"I agree with you. I'm going to take a page from his book," He rubs my back, "Thank you for making my boy happy. I hope he holds onto you, puts a ring on that finger of yours and eventually makes you one of our family."

I bite my tongue smiling up at him. Now wasn't the time to plan weddings.

"Bella," Emmett bursts into the waiting room wearing scrubs and a hospital cap, "come on."

Carlisle squeezes my shoulder lovingly before motioning for me to go. I run to Emmett and take hold of his hand. He's shaking.

"Is she okay?" I ask.

"Fine," He nods, "she lost a bit of blood but the doctors have sewn her shut. They did an amazing job, Bells. She's asking for you."

"What about you? How are you?" I ask.

"I've gone from almost losing my brother to becoming a new father. I'd say I'm handling it," He smiles down at me.

"I'm proud of you," I say, "I know Edward would be too."

Rosalie looks beautiful. For someone who'd just been cut opened and delivered a child, she still looks beautiful. Lucky bitch. I looked like a mess. What it would take to catch her on a bad day. I move to her side, taking her hand while Emmett does the same on her other side. I smile down at her in awe.

"Motherhood already suits you," I smile at her fondly, "It suits you too, Em."

"He's so small," Emmett laughs suddenly, "the nurse took him away. He'll need to be in an incubator for a few weeks, but he's tiny."

I lean down and kiss Rosalie's head, she smiles up at me happily.

"You did it," I whisper, "I'm so proud of you."

"It was so scary," she sighs, "they think the stress may have encouraged him to come early. They said Edward woke up? Is he okay?"

"He's fine. You don't need to worry. You just need to heal, you had a really big surgery," I say.

Rosalie nods and looks at Emmett smiling.

"Have you guys discussed a name?" I ask.

"Not yet," Emmett shakes his head, "we argued over a few."

"We agreed on one major thing though. We were hoping you and Edward would agree to be godparents," Rose smiles at me.

"Absolutely, "I smile, "I'd be honoured."

"Okay. Baby is ready for a mummy cuddle," the nurse walks in pushing an incubator, "it's important they have small cuddles from mother. It helps with his development."

My eyes are drawn to the little human as the nurse lifts him, placing him into Rosalie's arms. She smiles down at the baby, tears welling at her eyes. He's incredible.

"Wow," I whisper. "He's absolutely beautiful."

His features had a mixture of both of them, more Emmett though. You could see he would have brown hair and his father's cheeky eyes. As Rosalie stroked his hair with her finger, I admired each inch of my new Godson.

"What about Wilson," Emmett suggests.

"No. I don't need Tom Hanks jokes," Rose grins, "What should we name you, baby boy?"

"What about William," I smile down a

t the baby, "After your father?"

I can't help but reach out and run my finger over his small arm. His skin is so soft.

Rose looks at me for a minute then down at her son.

"I love it," Emmett nods.

"Me too," Rose leans down, kissing the baby's head.

Emmett leans into stroke his cheek carefully, kissing his girlfriend's forehead. His fingers seem like giant pylons by the baby's small frame.

"William Edward Cullen," Emmett says.

"Edward?" I am taken back.

"His uncle is incredibly strong and after today it's only right he has that in his birth name," Emmett says.

Rosalie nods in agreement.

The more I watch the trio the more I feel intrusive. They needed this family moment.

"I'll go check on his Uncle," I kiss Rosalie's head, and cuddle Emmett, "I'm proud of you both."

As I walked back to Edward my heart felt incredibly whole. It's strange how this day started off as devastation, but now I feel the happiest I have ever.
