A/N: Alright, so I'm back for the time being, I did over 100 miles of some of the roughest terrain in the northeast, and as such, I'm a bit beaten up, but it was super fun. I'm not really feeling writing too much right now so updates may be a bit more sporadic, but I would feel bad not writing a chapter for you guys :)
DavidLeca12. It will, don't worry! Thank you, I figured this should be pretty fun.
Falconress. Haha indeed he is, I do too, if that ever happens of course, I have no idea how I would go about making that happen lol. That may be the case, I guess you'll have to see ;)
Guest the First. Well, the name is a bit more common in Arda now, just as people today are named after legends. Although, I guess you don't see many people named Beowulf around, oh well. Those are good points though! It will be explained soon enough, don't worry :)
Springpony. She will be! That would totally be a Percy thing to do, so maybe ;) And thank you! I don't know it happens either, it just does I suppose.
Angelmermaid4574. No problem! It definitely is getting interesting lol
JessSlytherin. There will be a couple of hints in this chapter :) And no problem, I hope you did great on your exam!
I'm assuming all three of these were from QueenCarlton, if they weren't I'm super sorry, just send me a PM I guess :) They certainly are! It should be an interesting point of mild conflict and lots of awkwardness in the future lol. Thanks for the tip, spell checker doesn't like me sometimes :( I'll go back through and see if I can find them.
Oh my that is a lot of questions, I'll do my best to answer the ones that aren't story-ruining! So the way I'm approaching it is kinda weird. I think that gods gain their power through being perceived and worshipped/being known by people- because an entity cannot exist unless we perceive it to be, or maybe it can, but that's another discussion I guess. The way Percy achieved godhood was a combination of basically perceived as a god by cults of men in middle-earth as well as literally burning away her non godly blood with the amount of power she was unleashing. As such, her domains are the powers that she had previously had and what the people worshipping her think she has. She wouldn't have a roman aspect, because the romans dont know she exists as a deity. I would say she's not Eru's equal, she doesn't have the power of creation, which is the ultimate power. She may get caught up in such a rivalry, but it's unlikely, she is more of a god to men than to elves anyway; the elves worship solely Eru, but they do revere her. So hopefully that makes a little bit of sense? (Probably not, but I tried I guess.)
Kyle. Yessir, I'm on it!
"Ohh uh, I'm from.. Lindon!" I exclaimed, a little bit too enthusiastically.
Elrond's eyes narrowed slightly. "Not many Noldo dwell in Lindon as of late, how old are you?"
"571, there are not as many of us as there once were- that much is certain." Elrond nodded thoughtfully, his fingers gently resting upon his chin. I breathed an internal sigh of relief, that appeared to alleviate some of his suspicions.
"And what brings you to Imladris?"
"Experience my lord, I heard that there are many orcs and goblins in this area, such creatures very rarely stray into the realm of Mithlond. If you would allow it, I would like to join your patrols to cull those beasts." People traveling just for the sake of it were rare as far as I knew, plus I could use the practice of killing a couple orcs.
He raised an eyebrow, viewing me with renewed interest. It wasn't common for a female elf to be interested in combat, not unheard of, but certainly unusual. "We are always grateful to accept help from friends. I will introduce you to the captain of the guard, Glorfindel- I trust you know the basics of combat?" I nodded enthusiastically and he looked slightly relieved, although he probably still was not convinced that I was ready to go fight some orcs. "It appears you will likely be staying with us for a while, come, let me show you the rest of Imladris."
Gandalf, who had been so silent that I nearly forgot he was there, coughed lightly and smiled at me before he announced. "I must speak with some members of your house Lord Elrond; if you permit me to do so."
"Of course my friend, go as you wish." Elrond replied. Gandalf nodded in acknowledgement and walked over to the edge of the platform, leaning slightly onto the railing as he gazed over the valley.
Elrond took a step towards the stairs leading off of the platform and motioned for me to follow, I got the cue and followed him down the curved stair. He paused for a moment at the bottom, and I fell in step with him. He gestured to our right; "That's the main entrance, which you already appear to be familiar with." I looked over to the stout fortification, waving at Tirith, who actually waved back- how surprising. Elrond's lips curled slightly; "It appears you are already making friends."
"It's a habit I guess." We continued down the stone path, past a couple of smaller halls and what looked like houses.
The narrow road opened up into a large square, off to the right was what looked like a training arena, to the left a very large building, probably the main hall or something like that.
Smaller dwellings filled in the rest of the space, it seemed to be the only area in Imladris that didn't have a stream running through it, although there was still plenty of greenery- it looked like some of the houses were woven out of still-living trees.
In the center of the small square stood a stone pedestal with some odd looking objects on it. Without thinking, I gravitated towards the statue, intending to read the inscription. Elrond must have noticed my divergence, seeing as he was now standing next to me.
Now that I was a couple feet away I could see that the statue really wasn't one at all, it was two swords crossed with their points partially embedded into the rock.
I blinked once or twice trying to focus into reading elvish; the inscription was simply: Ringil and Riptide. Oh, I was confused as to why they both looked so familiar, well they were obviously not exact copies, Fingolfin's blade had a bluer hilt, and riptide was a more ethereal bronze than the one stuck into the stone.
All thoughts of the accuracy of the swords vacated my mind as I was bombarded by memories of the other times Ringil and Riptide had crossed blades.
An intense spar, the one time Fingolfin tried to catch me off my guard while I was occupied at my desk.
My eyes burned and I idly noticed a single tear streaking down my face. I blinked, once, then three times more- trying to get my emotions under control.
I cleared my mind and inconspicuously wiped the tear off my face. Elrond was still solemnly studying the monument, thank the gods. He looked over at my rather out-of-place action only to be met with the questioning face of a young brunette elf.
"What does this monument stand for?" I asked, feigning total ignorance.
Elrond looked like a mortal grandfather for a moment, I half thought he was going to say something like 'damn kids these days' or something.
Instead, his expression morphed into an understanding smile, and he guided me around the rest of the small town explaining the lives of the two greatest warriors of the first age.
It was pretty weird to hear about myself like it wasnt me, but the architecture distracted me enough to keep my brain from shorting out.
Of course, some of what now was legend was slightly exaggerated or not quite accurate, but for a couple thousand years since it had happened, it was pretty impressive- we certainly didn't know as much about the Sumerians back on earth as the elves knew about their ancient history.
Before I knew it, we had made our way to what looked like some sort of small amphitheater or arena.
Tight arches were stacked thrice upon each other, reaching maybe thirty feet at the tallest height, the building was in what appeared to be a perfect circle, with a main entrance which led into its center courtyard- which was currently occupied with around a dozen training soldiers.
Elrond paused in front of the door leading to the sand field in the center of the structure; and I came to a halt beside him.
"Lord Glorfindel will be just inside here, he will judge if you will require more training before assisting the patrols around Imladris."
"Thank you Lord Elrond!" I exclaimed, very excited to get to some fighting.
"He will also show you to your accommodations for the foreseeable future, it has been a pleasure Persephone."
He extended his hand once more, and we firmly gripped each other's forearms before releasing and going our separate ways.
I wiggled my shoulders as I walked into the arena, I had heard of some of Glorfindel's exploits from Eru, and I was eager to face a challenge.
A/N: Hey guys, super sorry about the short chapter but I figured it would be nice to put out a quick update! Well, if you want to get in better contact with me you can join the discord server in my bio, nobody has done that yet :(
Until next time!
