"I'm going to have some time to think…" Nightstorm told Addertail.

All three cats must've been having a conversation, Nightstorm just hadn't heard. Dapplefur and Sleekfoot turned their heads to Nightstorm, clearly confused. Addertail stepped in to respond to Nightstorm. "Sure, just be back soon."

Nightstorm nodded and padded away over the cold stone, into a tunnel leading out of the opening where the meeting was taking place. The group of cats from all different Clans eyed him as he went towards the exit. Surely Addertail must not be serious, I mean, who… who thinks there are such things as imposters? I don't know if he's right, there isn't any evidence...

Walking through the cold tunnel made Nightstorm more anxious, so after a few moments he turned around to go back to the meeting. But at the same time, Yellowstar could be taking over, and if Stonepelt is the only 'imposter' then why not interrogate him? Surely he hasn't been an 'imposter' all his life?

"Nightstorm, over here."
Nightstorm spun around at the familiar voice. What is he doing here? Doesn't he know these cats want him dead? "Why are you down here? Wouldn't it make more sense to send a spy that's not so, important?"
A gray body emerged from the darkness. At the distance Nightstorm was from the meeting of cats, he could hear faint murmurs in the background so he knew he could talk without any cat noticing. "I'm not that important, well at least not to IceClan. I am to the…" Stonepelt glanced over at the entrance, where the voices of Addertail and the others rang out, "whatever that is…"

Stonepelt turned his head back to Nightstorm. "The main point is, Addertail doesn't know what he's talking about. If you know I'm not an 'imposter', then what is the point of siding with them?"
Nightstorm was quick with a reply. "Well I don't think you're an imposter, I do think there could be imposters though. Why would StarClan be gone for so long?"

"StarClan has never walked in these skies, they're with the others."

Nightstorm froze. So many different thoughts… I wish I could just know which one was right.

"That's not true… why would they abandon us?" questioned Nightstorm suspiciously.
"It's more the opposite, we abandoned them, without realizing it."

"Then why would I have visions?"
"I don't know, maybe you're just seeing things. Everything has an explanation, StarClan doesn't explain everything."

Nightstorm thought of a different point to argue with Stonepelt. "The point of medicine cats is to connect with StarClan, so what purpose do they have now?"

Stonepelt didn't hesitate at the question. "Healing, that's it. Ask any medicine cat outside of FireClan, they have never met StarClan in their life, and they don't care about them anymore."

Nightstorm dug his claws into the ground. I know what you're doing. "You're just trying to trick me, I know it. Every cat wants to use me, to manipulate me and you're another one of them."

Stonepelt chuckled as if he actually thought this was funny. "You're really not that smart Nightstorm, every cat has always manipulated you and you let your self righteous tell you 'I'm my own thing' like you're a kit who is trying to be different just for the sake of it."

Nightstorm hissed. "That's not true."

Is it? Throughout out Nightstorm's whole life he thought he was ahead of the curve, smarter than every other warrior, more self aware of what the Clans were doing to them. Maybe he was just every other cat, and Stonepelt was the smart one.

Stonepelt kept himself calm. "Think about it, you're just lonely, and now you're more lonely than ever."

Nightstorm sneered at this. I have much more than you ever will. "Lonely? At least I have a friend, you seem pretty upset being one of the few members left of the old FireClan."

Stonepelt looked at the ground sadly. "Well, yes I suppose. I'm just waiting for all of this to be over so I can get back to living in the actual FireClan. Don't you want all of this madness to be over?"

"Addertail is right about a lot of things, we're tired of putting up with the 'perfect Clans' all day, I would be better off as a rogue."

Stonepelt nodded. "Addertail is right about a few things, sure, but he's also sacrificing random cats in the name of StarClan... Yellowstar was always wary of him... All he was taught as a kit was that StarClan was the only thing holding us together, he doesn't know any other way, he's at his wit's end and he must be stopped!"
Even if Nightstorm knew this might be the case he was still suspicious of Stonepelt. "Where do your loyalties lie if you agree with Addertail, even to a certain extent?"
"They lie with bringing back FireClan to its old place… who knows… maybe Yellowstar will change a few things, FireClan just showed her what it thought of her leadership."

Nightstorm didn't like the answer… Yellowstar wouldn't change anything on her life. "Just leave before you get hurt… I don't care if you're wrong or right, the truth will reveal itself eventually…"

Stonepelt sighed, clearly frustrated that Nightstorm wasn't agreeing with him. Nightstorm stalked back to the entrance, now feeling weary of all the member's eyes directed towards him. Addertail smiled when he saw Nightstorm had returned and greeted him. "Ah, I see your back."

Nightstorm saw some of Stonepelt's points now. Sure… Addertail is right, but this is insane, and I don't want any part in it.
Nightstorm instantly questioned Addertail. "Listen, I agree that the Clans are mousebrained and all that… but killing random cats because of something 'I saw' is kinda ridiculous, don't you think?"

Addertail titled his head. "We've been over this so many times, StarClan wants to speak through you."

Nightstorm bit back a rude response. I'm so tired of that excuse. "But they aren't, they were never with us, there is no getting 'StarClan' back if they aren't even here!"
The cats gathered around gasped at what Nightstorm said. Addertail unsheathed his claws. "StarClan is here, I know it!"
Nightstorm didn't flinch. He won't hurt me if I'm special. "Don't jump to conclusions, especially if it means killing innocent cats!"
Addertail pulled a face of false resentment. "Oh, so you're with Yellowstar now?"
Nightstorm decided to have a more witty response. "Maybe so, I know I'm done with whatever you want to call this!"
"We are called the Stars, and we won't tolerate you leaving."

Nightstorm turned and ran for the exit but was stopped by Mintbreeze at the entrance. "I thought you were with me, with us!" she cried.

"I'm not with this! I thought you had some sense too!" hissed Nightstorm.

Nightstorm peered around to see what the other cats were doing. They were clearly about to charge after him. Run. A few of them started pursuing him, so he jumped into the exit, past Mintbreeze to run up the slope, occasionally slipping on the smooth stone underneath his paws.

He heaved himself up for what felt like ages until he couldn't hear the other cats anymore. At this point, he was already exhausted. The black tom collapsed onto the ground, feeling instant relief. How am I supposed to get out of here?

Nightstorm had no idea where he was, the tunnels surrounding him leading into eternal darkness. Great, even Mintbreeze is with the weird cats. Even if they're right, I don't want to kill any cat…

Even if he was tired, Nightstorm still managed to find the energy to keep wandering around the tunnels. As far as he knew, going upwards should be the quickest way to the outside world. I need to tell FireClan… But wasn't half of FireClan already there? Is there any Clan that can help? IceClan maybe…

Nightstorm felt confident that Addertail was in the wrong here, even if he was partly right. I'm not going to instantly pick sides, I'll just go with the one that doesn't attack me first.

Nightstorm eventually found himself in the clearing with a river running through it, the place he had been so many times. The tunnel isn't far…

Nightstorm traveled through the tight space, this time not slipping and falling off of the small ledge. He jumped up into the small opening and jumped into the ice-cold water. He knew there shouldn't be any ice covering the surface this time since it wasn't as cold, so he would be fine. Nightstorm took a deep breath before plunging through the water, swimming down, then to the side, then back up. He broke the surface of the water instantly, no ice to be found. He heaved himself onto the shore. Surely no 'Star' cat would find me here…

He padded up the tunnel to the entrance of IceClan territory, no warriors guarding it like last time. He popped his head out to make sure no cat was in sight and tried to find his way to the IceClan camp. Once he pushed through a few bushes he spotted what looked like a camp, but not many signs of life. He kept himself low to the ground to make sure no cat spotted him and alert the others.

The camp only had a few queens and elders, no warriors insight. Nightstorm gasped and started his way to FireClan again. They must be attacking now, that's why Stonepelt wanted to keep me out of the cross fire…
