Kylee had been at the group home for a few days before she was actually given the opportunity to talk to one of the adults about the reason that she had felt that Olivia and Amanda should have been told about the fact that she was back at the group home and the reason that these things had officially happened. Kylee knew that some of the other kids had not really understood the reason that Kylee was interested in telling someone that had worked at the precinct about the things that she had been dealing with, not even after Kylee had tried to explain to them that Olivia had been the one that had essentially saved her from the people that had been running one of her previous foster homes that she had found herself running away from for various reasons. Kylee really wasn't sure what would happen once Olivia had heard about the fact that Kylee was back at the group home but she knew that when push came to shove Olivia and Amanda would be there for her when she had seemed to need them the most. This had been part of the reason that Kylee had hoped that Olivia or Amanda would be able to make arrangements for one or the other to become the foster mother that Kylee had always wanted. Kylee had not been sure what would happen once Amanda and Olivia had found out about some of these things, but she did know that it could not be any worse than what she had been going through when Billy had made that phone call to her social worker about a month after she had been placed with them.
Kylee did not know why but something had just told her that there had only been a few people that she could trust when it came to the things that she had been going through. Whenever Kylee had been spending time with the other kids that were in the group home it had seemed that they could never stop talking about the things that they had been going through long before they had found out what this group home was actually like and just what the real reason was that they had found themselves in this situation. Of course, most of these kids had not realized how bad the situation was for Kylee and the real reason that she had ended up in this hell after Billy and Emily had made the decision to call her social worker about the things that had been taking place. Once Kylee had managed to get in touch with Olivia it was obvious that she was going to be dealing with quite a few things that had dealt with working around Olivia's schedule if she had wanted to spend time with her the way that she would have if she had been staying with Olivia and other members of her family. Kylee had not really known about anything that Olivia had been going through, especially when it came to the trial and the fact that Kylee had already been in two different foster homes in the amount of time that she had been forced to live without her parents. The fact that all of these things had happened to her in the past year had been something that Kylee had been thinking about every time that she had been placed in this group home waiting for a time that someone would actually be interested in her enough to get her out of this nightmare that she had been forced to live through for quite some time.
Kylee had seemed to realize that this was something that would be happening to her for a long time, but she had seemed to know more than anything else that it would become all that much more difficult for her to find a proper home where she could eventually feel that she would be safe the longer that she had been in the group home with nobody else noticing that she had really been there. In many ways Kylee had wondered if her own social worker had started to realize these things which had been part of the real reason that she had made absolutely no attempt to make sure that Kylee had been placed with another family since she had been here for the last couple of weeks.
***********************
Olivia had just been getting into her office when she had heard her phone ringing during a time that had seemed to be almost endless throughout most of the day. She had been used to these things happening since the day that she had become captain, even though there had been times that the cases that were being called in had been things that she had been quite sure one of the other members of the squad could easily handle during the time that she had been working on the mountains of paperwork that still had to be filled out from the last case that she had spent her time working on since Jerimiah and his wife Andrea had been put on trial for abusing Kylee. She had found herself being rather surprised, however, when she had answered the phone and found out that this time it had absolutely nothing to do with there being another case but had everything to do with Kylee and the fact that there had been a few things taking place that Olivia had not been expecting when it came to the people who had recently become her foster parents.
Olivia had been in the court room the day that Emily and Billy had been doing everything that they could possibly think of to become Kylee's newest set of foster parents knowing that there would eventually be that one chance that they would be permitted to adopt her if things had eventually worked out in a way that would allow for these things to happen. The last thing that Olivia had been expecting was to get a phone call from Kylee telling her that Billy and Emily had made a phone call and that Kylee had eventually found herself back at the group home waiting yet again for a foster family because of the things that had supposedly taken place. Even though this had caused quite a bit of worry and stress for Olivia she had been determined to find out exactly what she could to help this little girl even if it meant that she would eventually have to take the little girl into her own home just to make sure that she did not end up living a life of endless foster home hell.
That night after everyone had left the precinct Olivia had spent hours looking for as much information as she possibly could so that she could help Kylee. She had not expected to find out that someone else had been staying rather late at the precinct because of a case that they had been working on and it was giving that person every opportunity to watch the things that Olivia had been doing throughout the entire time that she had been working. Ed Tucker had been staying late at the precinct thinking that he would be able to find a way to talk to Olivia and make her think that there would be certain things that she could be doing that would eventually help her unit since it had seemed that they had always been so understaffed right from the moment that her old partner Elliot Stabler had left because of a case that he had worked on so many years earlier. Olivia really had no idea just why any of these things had seemed to worry Ed Tucker so much since Olivia and her squad had seemed to be doing everything they could to solve these cases on their own and yet at the same time it had seemed that Tucker was determined to make sure that Olivia had accepted someone in their squad that would eventually end up causing more trouble than she was honestly ready to deal with after everything that had been taking place since the day that she had been made captain.
Olivia had spent several days thinking about everything that Tucker had said to her that night when she had been working late and for some reason something had told her that he might have had reasons of his own for wanting Olivia to accept the transfer that was supposedly needed in SVU after the recent string of cases that had been coming in. Even though Olivia and Brian had remained friends after their relationship had ended there had been that small part of her that was struggling to trust him after everything that he had put her through all those years ago after she had been kidnapped and tortured for three days by a man named William Lewis. Olivia had known that this was something that she could not keep thinking about whenever she had thought about the time that she was working with Brian as well as dating him despite her better judgement. Now that it had become obvious that he was wanting to return to SVU after Cragen had transferred him out of the unit was something that Olivia knew would be taking quite a bit of time for her to think about. She was definitely realizing that having Brian back on the squad was something that would have a full impact on the squad as well as the cases that they would eventually find themselves working on during that time.
Years earlier when Brian had first found himself being transferred to a different unit he had told Olivia about everything that had happened. Brian had been given a case that would have been difficult for any officer to take no matter how long they had been working at SVU and it had caused him to have a breakdown for the first time since he had graduated from the academy. Cragen had seen these signs right from the moment that Brian had first started working at SVU but Brian had been given the benefit of the doubt that this had been something that he could handle no matter how difficult the case might have been. Everything had seemed to be going well for Brian until that one case that had seemed to hit close to home for him and Cragen had realized that there was no choice except to talk to Brian about his other options, especially when Brian had started letting his personal feelings for Olivia to get in the way of the job that he was supposed to be doing during that time.
Throughout the entire time that all of these things had been taking place, it had been Olivia that had known that Brian had been struggling with keeping his feelings toward her a secret and it would eventually lead to one or the other losing the job that they had both fought for over the years. It had not exactly surprised Olivia when Brian had found himself being transferred out of the unit after the last case that he had worked on and especially after the case that had been brought against him during that time that their relationship had so suddenly come to an end. Now Olivia was forced into considering whether Brian should be permitted to transfer back into the unit knowing the amount of time that he had spent working for IAB, and that there would be that chance that he would do everything that he could to betray certain members of the squad if for whatever reason he had not liked the things that were happening during that time. There was also the fact that certain questions would have to be answered when it came to the fact that Brian very likely would not be able to accept the fact that Olivia was now going to be his boss and he would have to listen to the things that she was telling him to do whenever it came to the cases that he would eventually be working on. Olivia knew that these were all things that Ed Tucker would not exactly be able to understand these things every time that he had talked to Olivia about accepting that transfer knowing that there had been different ways that a decision like this could end up affecting the squad and not necessarily in a good way. Either way, it had seemed that since Tucker was a member of IAB Olivia was finding herself with no choice except to take the chance that Brian had changed since the last time that he had been working for SVU. That afternoon Olivia had looked at the transfer papers that she had received for Brian knowing that there was bound to be a few people that had been working with her for a number of years that would not exactly be happy about the fact that Brian would be returning to the squad room and would be one of the few officers that would be working with them on the cases that had been called in throughout the entire week. She had started to realize that all that Brian had honestly been waiting on during that time was for her to sign off on the papers that would sooner or later permit him to return to SVU and something had told Brian that his transition during that time was not going to be as easy as he had been expecting it to be once Olivia had officially made her decision about what would be taking place and whether he would be as trusted as he had led himself to believe. He knew that there were people that he would be working with after he had gotten back to SVU that had felt that he could not be trusted, but at the same time they had all known what would happen if there had been times that they had let their personal feelings get in the way of the jobs that they were supposed to be doing. Brian had learned that lesson the hard way and now he was hoping that he would be able to prove to the other detectives and the people that he was working with that this was something that he was now able to do no matter how he had felt about the things that were taking place at the time.
Brian had waited for several days to find out about whether his transfer had been accepted and even then it had seemed that there had been things happening that he had been feeling rather nervous about. He had been hoping that he would be able to learn whether the rumors and stories he had been hearing about Olivia had been completely true. He knew that there would be the opportunity to ask Olivia about these things and yet at the same time he had not wanted to take the chance that these things would eventually ruin whatever chances that he had of getting back to the unit where he had worked from the very beginning. Brian knew that things probably had not changed as much as he had been led to believe that they had but Ed Tucker had never exactly been telling Brian who the person was that had been captain when he was waiting for his transfer to go through and everything else that had been happening that was causing the transfer to take so long to be going through. All that he had really been told was that the current captain of SVU was taking their time to think about the things that would be for the best for the squad and the things that they had all needed at the time. Brian knew that patience had never exactly been something that he had been able to control even when he had first started working at SVU but now he had found that patience being tested more and more with each passing day. Brian had often told himself that there had been problems with the transfer that Tucker had not told him about and it was because of those problems that he was still forced to work for IAB and constantly being put on undercover jobs that he honestly could not handle throughout that entire time.
