Five years had passed since the Battle of Endor. In the aftermath, Padme worked with her children and Han along with the rest of the Alliance to rebuild the Galactic Senate. To help rebuild, the new capitol was Chandrila and the Senate met there. Padme, with the help of Mon Mothma, settled there with Leia.
When the planets agreed to come together again to create the democracy, Mon Mothma was appointed as Chancellor for her efforts in leading the Alliance. Padme, now a Chandrilan citizen and good friend of the Chancellor, was voted into office to represent her new home. Leia returned to her mother's side and helped her as she once did with her Uncle Bail.
Han continued to smuggle with Chewie for years, but he was eventually convinced by Chewie to settle down. He and Leia were married six months after that and Han took Leia's last name. Han and Leia moved into a house near where Padme lived which made her happy.
Luke, however, left to rebuild the Jedi. He found the planet Lothal and decided to start to train new Jedi there. He visited fairly often but not as much as Padme would have liked. It was far in the Outer Rim, but she knew it was for the safety of his students. He wanted to make sure that the new generation was far from the bureaucracy and the politicians.
However, Luke had made a special trip out to Chandrila and was going to stay for at least a month. Leia and Han had announced that they were having a baby boy and Luke had arrived in time to meet his nephew. Padme and he waited in the medical clinic, both nervous and excited wrecks. Lando sat with them as well, trying not to laugh at their antics. Lando had just arrived from Bespin since he had fought and won it from the remnants of the Empire there.
Chewie, however, was pacing the room and howling. Padme found herself growing impatient with the Wookie, but she also knew that he was just as excited as she was. Luke was trying to meditate to control his nerves, but it didn't work. Threepio had to be shut off for giving unwarranted probabilities regarding Leia and the baby. Atroo was whirring next to him, sometimes rolling in circles.
Eventually, the medical droid appeared and brought them back to see the new family. Padme led the pack with Luke as the rest followed. Chewie had to go back to turn Threepio back on before dashing back to the group. The door opened and Padme grinned ear to ear when she saw her daughter holding a little bundle. Han was beaming like the proud dad he was as they came in.
"The newest addition to the Organa family," Han introduced as they came forward. Leia smiled up as they surrounded her. The droids stayed toward the entrance, keeping well out of the way as the others were introduced to the child.
"He's beautiful," Padme cooed as she stared at the sleeping newborn. He had rich dark hair and a pouted frown. Luke stood next to Han as he placed a hand on his shoulder, congratulating him. Chewie bellowed as he stared at the baby.
"Have you thought of a name for him?" Luke asked as Leia smiled up at Han.
"Well, we thought that Ben would be the best idea," Han explained.
"Ben Anakin Organa," Leia added. Padme stared at her and she shrugged. "From the stories you told, Father was a good man. I think it's important to keep his good side in memory. Actually, it was Han's idea."
"Well, I thought it would be a nice gesture since he was one who killed the Emperor and helped us win the war," Han explained as Padme's face softened.
"I think Anakin would be proud to hear that," she replied. Han relaxed and smiled. Leia handed little Ben to Padme who took him gently. She stared down as tears formed in her eyes. The little baby stirred a little but didn't cry. Padme felt Luke at her back to look down at his nephew. Her heart soared as she realized Anakin was right. There would only be peace from now on.
