Day 30: Knockturn Alley
"You ready for this, Ted?"
Teddy Lupin looked up into his godfather's smiling face, biting his lip nervously, "Of course."
Somehow, Teddy's voice didn't come out as confident as he meant it to and he flushed before saying sheepishly, "I know it's stupid to be nervous. I've patrolled Knockturn Alley with you before, while I was in training."
Harry only smiled gently, "But this is your first mission as a fully qualified Auror. It's different. I felt the same way on my first mission."
Teddy's eyes widened in amazement, "Really? After everything you did as a kid?" Teddy wasn't a child who thought his godfather was fearless and could do anything anymore, but he still had a hard time picturing Harry being nervous about a routine patrol.
Harry chuckled, "Sure. It's a different kind of thing than what I did as a kid. It wasn't like I was afraid for my life – that I could deal with, I was more worried I'd manage to make a total fool of myself my first day on the job."
"And did you?" Teddy couldn't help but ask.
Harry shook his head, "I did just fine. And so will you." His gaze grew misty, "Your mum and dad would be really proud of you, Teddy, just like I am."
Teddy swallowed hard, not knowing what to say. No matter how often he heard that, it never meant any less to him.
Even though he hadn't spoken, Harry, as he always did, seemed to understand everything he was feeling. He smiled as he changed the subject, "Do you remember when you snuck down here when you were ten?"
Teddy laughed, "Of course I do. I barely got ten feet before you caught me and then I received a hell of a scolding from you, Ginny, and my grandma. I never tried that again."
Harry laughed, "Don't worry, no one's going to scold you for going in this time."
Teddy snickered, "Thanks, that's what I was actually nervous about."
"Anytime, Ted," Harry returned with an amused glint in his eye.
"You ready?" he asked again and this time Teddy's voice was steady as he answered, "Of course."
Reviews are always welcome.
