Chapter 20: Doused Phenex

"Hey Issei. Don't tell me you're not going to retire this bishop because she's cute." Noct made faces behind an unknowing and blushing Ravel making Issei shake his head.

"You do realize we can't retire her right? Do you even pay attention?" Issei sighed.

"When did anyone say that?"

"Noct. Grayfia mentioned it in the last Rating Game." Issei sighed once more.

"Mhm." Noct yawned shadowstepping next to the rest of the peerage, "I only paid attention to Kiba. Sorry."

"Excuse me!" shouted Ravel making everyone's attention fall on her. She felt intimidated at the stares of such powerful people but she maintained her composure, "I am-"

"Ravel Phenex. Sister to Riser Phenex. Yeah we know." Issei finished for her. She blushed at this. Never before did someone have the audactity to interrupt her. And...she liked it.

Suddenly a huge fireball was sent their way. Ravel quickly flew away from its blast radius. She laughed to herself at how Issei and his peerage were idiots.

"See you guys in the hospital." She smirked at the still peerage. Suddenly the fireball was gone and a white armored figure flew down joining the peerage.

"You were saying my dear Ravel?" Issei grinned before Vali punched him in the arm making him wince.

"Sit down boy." playfully said Vali. Issei gave a small smile at his queen before he searched and found Riser who was standing on the rooftop of the Student Council Building.

"Riser can't wait to destroy you." Riser arrogantly said before launching another fireball at Issei. Issei only grabbed the fireball and threw it elsewhere.

"Remember. His rengeration requires stamina. Wear him out and we win this. Oh and my pawns?"Issei kept his stare at a smirking Riser, "Promote yourselves." His pawns nodded, all four of them promoting to Queen before his peerage all split up.

"Tornadus!" Marina summoned multiple wind tornados. The greeny area, the trees, the grass, the buildings, they were all destroyed and absorbed into the tornados as they were sent at Riser.

"Riser am a Phenex! Riser rules the sky!" Riser boasted, drawing power from the orb and sending a burst of fire destroying the tornadoes.

"Not the shadows!" Noct appeared next to him sliced him up and stepped back into the shadows.

"Riser can never die!" Riser simply regenerated the wounds as he invited Raviel. The rook pulvierized Riser to pieces roaring at the in pieces Riser. He too then backed off.

"Riser will teach you all a lesson!" Summoning more fire he prepared to launch it but froze.

Seraphina concentrated as she stopped Riser from moving. John took this chance and used his copied shadow scythe to slice Riser up into pieces. However this only complicated things as Seraphina now had to concentrate on multiple areas which she didn't completely master yet. She broke her concentration making Riser smirk and come back together. A surprised John at how quick he regenerated was sent ablaze by Riser.

John moved around on the floor in pain as the flames ate him up.

'Kukukuk.' The voice in his head laughed eviliy as John glared at Riser, 'Lets use it shall we?'

John stood up making Riser raise his eyebrows before widening it.

John was regenerating the damage he took. Seeing that copying Riser's power worked he gave a smirk at the surprised Phenex. Lord Phenex saw this and was also shocked.

"How does he have our family power??" He shouted, enraged and shocked.

"I believe John has the power to copy sacred gears and family powers. We never really talked but we breifly went over their powers." Kiba said to Lord Phenex who only glared at the knight.

"This is unacceptable! Lord Lucifier! This has to stop!" Lord Phenex shouted at Sirzechs.

"Watch your tone Lord Phenex." Sirzechs flared some of his aura at Lord Phenex instantly making him change his tone.

"I-Im sorry Lord Lucifer. Forgive me."

"If we stop this, this counts as a defeat for you Lord Phenex. Besides, the many devils amonst us would want to see this mafch through. Phenex verus Dragon. Am I right?" stated Sirzechs making the many devils nod eagerly. They all wanted to see what those in Issei's peerage could do. The many eager nods made Lord Phenex grumble and look back at the battle in hand.

Riser was sent in a barrage of attacks from Noct, Raviel, Marina, and John. Multiple shadow slashes, punches, strikes of wind, and even his own fire from John was not enough to fully make Riser retire. Throughout this, the arrogant Riser only grew more annoyed at how he couldn't hit any of Issei's members.

"Now Jane!" shouted Issei. Riser suddenly fell over. He was writhing in pain like his rook Xuelan as he screamed in pain.

Every member in Issei's peerage took this opening and launched their attacks at the in pain Riser. Noct sent multiple shadow missiles while at the same thing using the shadows generated from Alec to empower his own shadows, John combined shadow and fire and sent it all at Riser, Marina condensed air and sent it slashing at Riser. Raviel stood by at Issei's command as he didn't want the rook to attack while the other members were attacking. Vali stood next to him as the two observed the attack.

The attacks from the peerage landed on Riser creating a huge explosion at the center. The smoke from the attack cancelled Jane's ability making her blink next to her brother.

"Good job guys! It's almost over." Issei said signaling for Vali to do her thing now. The remaining members all fell back next to Issei as Vali ascended into the air.

Ravel looked worried for her brother before the smoke was dispersed showing an angry and panting Riser. Ravel smiled at this but it turned sour soon.

"RISER WILL MAKE YOU ALL PAY!" Riser thought back to the orb he had taken from Lord Belphegor. He felt it inside him as he drawed on its complete power. He wanted to show his strength without much help but now he had to. He didn't want to but in order to win and collect his Rias trophy, he would do it.

Vali was unsuspecting of what Riser was doing as she prepared to end the game. Suddenly she was blown away by a sudden explosion of strong and destructive power. Black and blue electricity and bright orange flames danced all over Riser and in the area around him. Poor Ravel who was the weakest was blown across the entire arena.The other members stared at this in shock and surprise while being slowly pushed back. Issei was the only one not affected by this as he glared at Riser. Nebula was right. As of this moment, Riser held the majority of Palpatine's power.

Riser was in pain. True pain as he screamed, his entire body was being corroded by the intense power from the orb inside him. But. It felt good at the same time. The amount of power he felt inside him was extraordinary. The only thing keeping him still functioning was his family power.

Suddenly the many flames arround him were gone, eaten up the black and blue electricity. Electricity ran rampant all around Riser before suddenly it all imploded with Riser being the center. And there Riser was. He was smoking, some electricry still dancing on him. He was staring beneath him as the electricity became more potent, brighter, and more bolts were seen.

The crowd was stunned at this. Phenex controlling electricity. It was unheard of. Lord Phenex was horrified at what was happening. There was no way Riser could control electricity. Being a Phenex simply prevented this. Sirzechs narrowed his eyes at this, he didn't expect this to happen. He expected a stomp from Issei but this, this was unprecedented and he didn't like it.

"Issei! Whats going on?!" shouted Marina as everyone else including Vali joined back with their king.

"That power was immense. No way he is this strong." Vali flew down next to her peerage.

"Thats because thats not his power." Issei summoned his spear. "He's borrowing the power of..." He whispered the last part, "Sidious." He didn't want to say it out loud for the devil crowd to hear.

"Who?" Vali also whispered while also eyeing Riser in suspicion.

"Ill explain later. But it's basically something bad." Issei glared at the figure of Riser.

{Cosmic Dragon! Balance Breaker!}

Issei summoned his armor before flying up. Vali was about to join him when he shook his head.

{Cosmic Ascension!}

Waves of power erupted from Issei as he pointed his spear at Riser.

Watching the transformations were all of the Devils that began to heavily whisper at this. They were all amazed and in wonder of the armor. The thought to be extinct Cosmic Dragon was real and they were seeing it right now! Rias and her peerage saw this armor previously but to see it again still made them in awe. It was simply something to be awed at. But all whispers and talk stopped when Riser began to move.

First was his arm. Electricity flowed throughout his entire body as he moved like a robot. The change was complete. Sounds began to be produced. It was soon heard to be a laugh as Riser raised his downed head. While laughing, he sent a shock of potent electricity at Issei.

{Gravity!}

Issei seemingly was seen absorbing an endless amount of electricity as Riser only kept on laughing. After a minute of solid absorbing, Riser stopped making Issei sigh in relief.

{Infinite Cosmos: Force Lightning Wave!}

Issei sent the same attack straight at Riser who smirked and sent a pulsing orb of lightning which obilerated Issei's attack.

{Wormhole!}

The attack was too fast for Issei making him feel a bit of pain in his arms after he wormholed.

"AHAHAHAHA!" Riser cackled as more electricity was seen in his hands, "RISER WILL NOW KILL YOU ALL!"

"Everyone!" Issei shouted making his peerage preapee to attack, "NO!"

"HAHAHAHAH!" Riser madly laughed sending huge bursts of electricty not even aiming the attacks. One of the bursts hit Raviel making him roar in pain.

Riser saw this and concentraed this burst letting his new power loose at Raviel. Even in his monster form, the electricity was dangerous for him.

"RISER WILL KILL YOU ALL!" Lifting his other arm he sent another blast of electricty, "NOW TASTE THE FLAMES OF THE PHENEX FAMILY!" Councidentally a final burst of fire was seen but it poofed out of existence the moment it was summoned.

{Cosmic Downfall!}

Riser flew out of the attack stopping his attack. Raviel slammed his fists on the ground grunting in pain, sparks of the electrictiy still ran through his body. His mind was clouded by the pain making him roar and charge without thinking at Riser.

"Raviel! NO!" Marina shouted trying to stop the monster with her wind only for Raviel to stop for a breif moment but shake it off before continuing his charge.

Issei was currently engaged with a delusioned Riser. Like Raviel, his mind was clouded, he wasn't thinking clearly. In short, Riser was drunk with the power he had. Riser was suddenly thrown by an enraged Raviel. Pain truly controlled him now, he had surrendered to it. He embraced it and his one mission was to end the pain. Raviel kept his punches going making Riser a bloody and bruised mess. The only thing stopping Riser from being killed was his family power. However he was regenerating exponentially slower. It was evident when Riser tried to lift his arm to find out that despite his family power, it was definitiely regenerating, it wasn't even close to being fully regenerated.

"Raviel!" Issei shouted placing his hand on the monster's back trying to stop his rampage.

Hearing his king's voice, Raviel stopped for a split second pondering on what he was doing.

"I-issei!" He shouted in a monster voice.

"DIEEEE!" Riser shouted letting his dying flames but potent electricty all converge on Raviel.

"NO!" shouted Noct shadowstepping in front of the attack.

"NOCT!" Issei exclaimed as he tried to step forward to stop Noct. But it was too late. Noct was in his balance breaker and any magic only damaged him even more.

"ARG-"

"Lord Issei's Knight: Retired!" Kiba's eyes grew wide at this. Noct was taken out by Riser! He closed his fists frustrated at this. Screw Riser! But he didn't know if he could even call Riser Riser anymore.

Despite seeing his son eliminate Noct, Lord Phenex was only shocked. All of the devils saw his expression and began to mumble to each other.

"AHAHAHAHHA!" Riser laughed out, not knowing how his the final sparks of fire around him disappeared leaving only electricity.

Issei stood there, silent, before stepping up. He pushed Raviel back and readied his spear. Riser eyed this like a madman welcoming Issei to attack him.

"Retire now." Issei ordered to his peerage.

"B-!" tried Marina.

"He's too strong for you guys. He's not using his own power but that of someone else much stronger than us." Issei swung his spear.

Marina hesistantly nodded ushering for the other peerage members to voluntarily retire. Jane and Alec looked at each other before shaking their heads. Seraphina and John stayed as well making Marina angerly scold them.

"We can take him!" John shouted.

"No we can't!" Marina shouted back. But Raviel's roar was louder. The sudden roar at the retiring of Noct and the surprise of him being sacrficing himself for him made him angry. It made him go berserk. Every member was surprised at the sudden roar as Raviel began to smoke. His eyes glowed red as his yell unleashed wind speeds that decimated the already damaged nearby areas.

Rushing past Issei in such a speed that even Issei couldn't stop, Raviel launched himself up and punched with such force that when he landed it on Riser, cracks began to form on the ground, the remaining buildings were destroyed by the impact

"Issei!" Vali flew down next to him with Marina and John behind her.

"I thought I told you guys to retire!" shouted Issei flying up to observe the crater that Raviel and Riser were at.

"We swore an oath Issei! We fight alongside you not without you!" John exclaimed raising his shadow scythe and summoning Phenex flames in his other hand.

"I don't like this one bit." said Marina. Right on cue, electricity was shot up lightning the sky in a blue haze.

Issei widened his eyes in shock as he witnessed what happened.

"RAVIEL!" There the rook was. A hole blown straight through his stomach by the burst of electricity. Raviel turned and laidnon his back, blood spurting from his mouth as he faded away.

"Lord Issei's Rook: Retired." The rest of the peerage was silent at this. Two members were down and Riser was still up and running.

"Why won't I heal?!" Riser growled stepping out of the crater, angry that his arm, which was hit by the rook , wasn't healing. He was met by a sudden attack from John which he took. He grinned about to taunt that he was a Phenex only to see that like his arm injury, his wound wasn't healing.

"Can't heal anymore huh?" John smirked and with his free hand slammed Riser's injured arm with pure Phenex fire.

Riser stumbled back and for once in his life felt the burn and heat of his own fire.

"I-impossible!" He cried out as the flames died to show a crisp injured and about to be armless arm. He then stared at John who had Phenex fire.

"What?" John stared back at Riser who growled.

"Y..YOU!! YOU TOOK RISER'S POWER!" With sudden speed, Riser gripped John with his spare hand choking him as he held him up.

"Y..ou're...a...n...idi...ot!" John choked out sending a spiral of fire aiming it Riser.

Riser only growled as his wedding clothes burned off leaving him with only pants on. And boy was he angry.

John coughed gripping his throat and suddnely he was pushed back with immense force. He was about to incinerate Riser who he thought pushed him only to see that Issei was there. Issei danced around Riser before using his spear and slicing Riser's legs off. Riser screamed in pain still in denial that his powers were gone. He glared at his legs hoping that his power was there. But it was to no avail. His legs were gone and they weren't healing in their normal Phenex way.

"John!" Seraphina rushed over to his side and helped him carefully stand up.

A white blur slammed into Riser's backside as Vali held him by the head.

Marina rushed over and and helped Vali suppressing Riser with wind. Jane and Alec blinked with their speed as the two readied themselves at Issei's command to immobilze Riser if he dared to move.

Issei stared down at the armless Riser before kneeling down to even the eye level.

"Who gave you this power?" slowly asked Issei. Riser only glared at Issei. In a defiant move, he twisted his only non injured arm. He twisted in such a fashion to send anything. Anything at Issei.

(Divide!)

Issei widened his eyes. Riser felt himself become weaker but he still shot something. Grinning to hopefully see his flames burn Issei's armor to the ground and wanting to get that satisfaction, he waited for it to happen. But it didn't.

Blue and black electricty shot from his arms but it was absorbed into Issei's spear. Issei turned and shot the electricity with his {Infinite Cosmos} into the other direction. Unbeknownst to him was that that reflected attack almost hit Ravel who was starting to fly back.

Riser was shocked though. He was quite shocked and confused. His flames. Where were they? Feeling that he was free as Vali had fallen back, he was about to stand only to remember that his legs were gone. About to fall he was suddenly slammed by Marina's wind.

"Vali!" Issei shouted as he rushed over to his mate's side. Marina kept her concentration as her wind continued to suppress a suddenly quiet Riser.

"Too...much?" Vali giggles. Her armor was destroyed due to the power Riser had possesed. She wasn't able to contain it.

"Idiot." Issei shook his head helping her up. The two smiling at each other as they prepared to turn around.

Suddenly everything slowed down.

Issei was pulled forward. Vali pushed herself forward. Issei slowly turned his head and John and Seraphina widened their eyes slowly. Marina was slowly being pushed as she tried to create a wind barrier. Not understanding what was happening, he suddenly felt it.

The shock of electricty.

"Last of Lord Issei's Pawns, Bishop: All Retired."

"Riser understands now. Riser understands now. RISER UNDERSTANDS NOW! THATS WHAT YOU MEANT BY THE WARNING!!" Riser laughed to himself. He was tricked and deceived. He knew now.

Issei stared behind him at the fading figure of Vali. She gave a small smile and mouthed something to him.

"Stop him." Vali closed her eyes and faded. Issei looked at the screaming Riser.

"DON'T YOU GET IT?" Riser screamed laughing, "THIS POWER HAHAHAHAHAH."

"Lord Issei's Queen: Retired."

Watching this sudden turn of events were surprised and quiet devils. They all glanced at Lord Phenex who didn't know what was going on.

"What does your son mean?" Sirzechs moved towards the Lord.

"I don't know Lord Lucifer! I swear!"

Riser turned his body to face Issei, using his one noninjured arm, he pulled himself up and stared at the armored form of Issei.

"I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND!!!" Riser suddenly glowed an eerie blue as electricity began to gather all around him giving him an additional glow. Concentrating everything, he sent it blasting at Issei.

'I think he finally knows the cost of such a power.' said Nebula.

'Took him long enough.' glared Issei who waited for the electricty to reach him.

{Gravity!}

Spinning around with the electricity being absorbed into the spear, he was about to end Riser. Forever.

"STOPPP!" yelled Ravel who suddenly flew in front of her brother. Her fire Phenex wings present on her back, "Spare my brother!"

Riser grew silent. There it was. His power. HIS POWER! Preparing to summon another attack but this time not at Issei.

Issei widened his eyes and quickly wormholed in front of Ravel. He pushed her forward making her land on the soil with a thud. She was about to yell at him when she stopped.

Issei felt the full force of the electricity. He yelled in pain as some of the power broke through his armor hitting him continously.

"Brother stop!!!" Ravel shouted but stopped herself. Why was she advocating for Issei?

Riser didn't listen and only laughed even more.

"AFTER RISER KILLS YOU, RISER WILL DEFEAT LORD BELPHEGOR AND LORD LUCIFER! RISER WILL SHOW EVERYONE TRUE POWER!!!" Riser shouted like a maniac laughing as he continued his attack on Issei.

Lord Phenex widened his eyes at what Riser just said, "Lo-" Sirzechs was gone. He slumped back and rubbed through his hair.

"R...Ravel..." Issei slowly said as Riser stopped attacking to charge another attack, "G...get out...o...f here." Ravel froze, hands tremblinng as she stared fearfully at Issei. She stood there not being able to move as Riser finished charging and was about to let loose another attack.

"Enough!" An orb of destruction was sent in Riser's direction completely destroying his remaining arm.

Riser stared at this in shock, "DO YO-"

"Silence!" The outburst from Sirzechs briefly made Riser go quiet but it didn't do much.

Riser glared at Sirzechs but saw someone else behind him that only angered him. The man who tricked him.

Electricity began to course through his body as he screamed. But nothing happened. Riser looked around and saw that he was suddenly encased in a dark bubble.

"This will stop his power or whatever it is." Palpatine/Lord Belphegor said, smirking to himself in the inside, 'And I shall take back what is mine.'

Inside the bubble, Riser suddenly shot up yelling in pain. However, to the people outside they all assumed he was trying to summon his power.

"Good. Now onto business." Sirzechs nodded gratefully towards his fellow Devil King, "Riser Phenex. For threatning not one but two Devil Kings as well as an attempt to kill the Devil Liaison, you are hereby sentenced for treason against the Devil Race."

Riser widened his eyes before he began to laugh, "AHAHAHAH! I AM RISER PHENEX! THIRD SON OF LORD PHENEX!"

"Not anymore. As of today, you are no more a Phenex. For the cost of treason, you are to be executed by our hand." Palpatine gave a stern face.

Riser stopped and gave a dark look at Palpatine, "Lord Belphegor. HAHAH. Riser knew it!!!"

"What does he mean?" Sirzcechs turned to said lord who gave him a confused face in return.

"I have no idea." Palpatine turned to face Riser again, "But I believe it is time for the execution. Don't you agree Lord Lucifer? A man that poses a threat to the Devil race?"

Sirzechs turned all his attention back at Riser, "Yes..."

Issei suddenly mumbled something. Ravel who was next to him saw his mouth moving and leaned her ear closer.

"spare...spare...spare." Ravel widened her eyes.

"Lord Lucifer! Lord Belphegor!" The two kings who were about to execute Riser turned to face Ravel.

"Lady Ravel. I understand if this is hard for you. But your brother is a danger to our society." Palpatine tried to reason with her.

"Lord Issei wants you to spare him!" Gasps were all heard around both the arena and in the spectators area.

"What do you mean?" Sirzechs stepped forward and leaned his ear in along with Ravel.

"Riser...spare...favor." Issei continued to mumble.

Sirzechs nodded at Ravel before standing up and facing Palpatine who was about to execute Riser.

"Lord Belphegor!" Sirzechs countered Palpatine's own attack.

"Sirzechs! He is a danger to us! I'm looking out for the future of the devil race!" Palpatine pointed at Riser, "And he can destroy it! I don't care if Lord Issei wants us to spare him! I don't even care if he uses one of the last two favors! Riser is a danger to us all!"

Sirzechs stood his ground in front of Palpatine, "And I say to spare him."

"Sirzechs. You listen to little kids now?" Palpatine tsked his tongue in annoyance

"No. And if I remember correctly, you decided to give Issei Hyoudou three favors. And he is intending to use them now. Besides we can keep Riser inside your little bubble till Issei has all he needs. I assume Issei wants something from Riser." Sirzechs continued to stand over Palpatine who narrowed his eyes.

"Is he to be executed after?" Palaptine nodded when Sirzechs said yes, "Then good. Sirzechs, I am just looking after our people." He sighed before turning around, "I trust you to take him to the dungeons?" Sirzechs nodded making Palpatine hide a smirk, 'Perfect. Everything is going as according to plan.'

When Sirzechs saw him leave, he ordered for multiple guards to take the armless and legless Riser away. He turned around and saw Ravel holding a fallen but still armored Issei.

'That attack from Riser. He needs medical attention!' The voice of Nebula shocked Ravel but Sirzechs only nodded as he told Ravel to hand him over. He ordered the remaining guards to take Issei to the hospital where everyone else in his peerage was. The guards nodded and carried Issei into a separate magic circle.

Sighing, Sirzechs peered his surroundings and saw the destruction that it became. Hearing Grayfia say that the arena was to be cleared in a few minutes, he joined his sister and her peerage with Ravel joining her father who was still shocked and without words. Other Phenexs joined them with them discussing Riser. Sirzechs glanced back at his sister glad that at least one good thing happened.

"Good news is that you are free now."

"Yes brother but where is Issei and his peerage kept at?! We want to thank him! He shouldn't have done this to himself. His peerage didn't have to-" Rias had tears threatning to come out. She was happy to be free. No doubt about that but she felt sad and empty at seeing what it had cost.

"I understand Rias." Sirzechs told them where Issei was held making Rias hug him before she and her peerage leave the wedding area.

Sighing, Sirzechs stepped outside as he peered into the empty sky. Today was such a hectic evening but it got the job done at least.

"That was an eventful evening." Grayfia softly spoke joining her husband on the balcony. The two smiled at wach other.

"I just hope nothing crazy happens now." Sirzechs said as the two looked off into the stars.

On some random continent*

"Thank you very much Miss!" said a merchant as a hodded figure smiled and left the market with her food.

Sighing to herself, she ate the food while at the same thing thinking to herself. Since the day of his disappearance, she had tried to find him but it was to no avail. It was as if he wasn't on this world. She grew frustrated, she had searched everywhere and Tiral was nowhere to be found. She threw her food at a nearby tree in anger, lightning seen in her palms.

"Seems someone is still mad."

She turned around. Lightning bolts in hand, Levyna searched who was behind her, "Who's there?!"

"Remember me?" smirked the figure, her belt holding a familiar hilt of a lightsaber.

"Agnea..." whispered Levyna. She was about to attack when the next words from her mouth made her silent.

"Hello there Levyna. Want to know how Tiral has been?" smirked Agnea.

A/N: And that concludes the Riser Arc! Surprised at how things turned out or was it too predictable? What is Palpatine's grand plan? I've been trying to build him up as a manipulative character and hopefully guys could tell. If not review for improvements. Im still trying to improve my story.

The next couple chapters will continue on this. So yup! Taking a break on Issei and his thing on Earth, time to venture out and build on Darkin and everything else.
