Chapter 22: Explanation and Advice
The cubs waiting for the pain to come. But before they could feel any pain they heard a voice exclaim, "Mother! Mother! There's something very important that you need to hear!"
"Nuka!" Zira roared, striking her son in the face and sending him crashing to the ground and also causing all the lionesses to look at him.
"Mother it's about Vitani and Kovu," Nuka declared, rubbing his face and getting up to his feet. "Well, really more Kovu."
"What about him?!" Zira snarled, glaring at her son.
"Well," Nuka began nervously. "He uh... stopped and left his uh... training.. yeah. And then he just disappeared."
"And you just let him go?!" Zira roared furiously causing Nuka to jump.
"Well uh," Nuka stammered nervously. "Well actually... he uh... left on his... own. Yeah." Nuka let out a nervous laugh when he said that last part.
"What?!" Zira roared, striking Nuka in the face again. "You let him go?! I thought I told you to watch him! And now we have to find him because of you not watching him better! Ladies let's go find Kovu!" With that Zira and her followers left as well as Nuka, seeming to forget that the cubs were still backed into a corner.
"Wow," Asante said wrinkling a brow. "That was odd."
"Sure was," Nadra said. "I wonder who this crazy lioness is."
"I don't really wanna know who this crazy lioness is," Keesha said, shaking in fear. "She and her crazy lionesses wanted to kill us until that male came."
"I agree," Nafasi said agreeing with Keesha. "But we should get out of here. They might come back here and actually eat us."
"Yeah," Asante said. "Let's get out of here." With that, the cubs got up and walked back to the Pride Lands.
Meanwhile far away from Pride Rock Kali was sitting on the same spot she sat on after her heated argument with her step-father, Simba seven months ago. She had tears in her eyes and had to constantly wipe them away so that they wouldn't roll down her face. A memory then suddenly went through her mind.
Flashback
"So where are we going?" Kali asked. She and Mwoga were out of the Pride Lands and in the middle of nowhere.
"Just on a walk remember?" Mwoga said, looking at Kali seductively. "Why you want to do more?"
"Well I mean no," Kali said, almost blushing. "I was just asking that's all."
"Oh ok," Mwoga said. "But you stay here. I will find a place where we can walk to."
"Why wait here when I can come with you?" Kali asked.
"Well I mean you did tell me that your father is overprotective so I think you should stay here since we're not in the Pride Lands," Mwoga said seductively, causing Kali to look away from Mwoga so that he wouldn't see that she was blushing.
"Oh y-yeah," Kali said nervously, still not looking at Mwoga. "Ok then. I guess I'll stay here then."
"Well I'll come back when I find the place," Mwoga said. "See ya later." With that Mwoga began to leave. But before he left he walked back and licked Kali's cheek, causing her to blush. After doing so, Mwoga began to leave. Kali looked back at Mwoga who was leaving and started to blush. She couldn't deny her feelings towards him and it's only been an hour since she's seen him. She decided to wait for him to come back and was debating whether or not she should confess her feelings to him when he comes back.
End of Flashback
"God I'm such an idiot," Kali thought to herself miserably as tears rolled down her face. "Had did I even fall for that lion? And now I can't even stop thinking of him. And Nadra reminds me so much of him. I just can't seem to move on from him. How can I even move on from him? It's just too damn hard." With these miserable thoughts, Kali leaned against a nearby tree as more tears rolled down her face as she tried to find ways of putting Mwoga behind her. Even though she knew it was going to be hard for her to put him behind her.
Meanwhile, the cubs have just got back to the Pride Lands and were met by Simba, Chaka, and Kopa. "Oh boy," Asante muttered. "We are so in trouble now."
"Yeah," Nafasi muttered.
"What were you cubs doing in the Outlands?" Simba asked. "Kings above if Zazu hadn't come and told me this I'd shudder at what would happen."
"Grandpa Simba it was an accident," Nafasi said.
"Yeah," Asante piped up. "We didn't mean to walk to the Outlands. We just got distracted."
"Am I in trouble dad?" Keesha asked looking at her father.
"We'll talk about this later," Chaka said. "Right now you cubs need to head back to Pride Rock. You guys had a rough day." With that Simba, Chaka, and Kopa turned and walked back to Pride Rock with the cubs right behind them, dreading what they're parents will say when they get back.
Meanwhile back in the Outlands Zira and her lionesses had found Kovu. Zira was furious at Kovu for leaving his training and if he left again then she will give him a beating. After that Zira and her lionesses went back to the place where they were about to kill the cubs. But as they got there the cubs were gone. "What?!" Zira roared, outraged at the fact that the cubs were gone. "How can this be?!"
"Well thanks to Nuka he's the reason they're gone," Shaka said, glaring at her younger half-brother who was laughing nervously. "We could have had an amazing dinner with some good cubs."
"You," Zira snarled, whipping her head to face Nuka. "You shouldn't have distracted us. And yet you had the nerve to distract us. And thanks to you our meal is gone."
"I-I'm sorry mother," Nuka stammered, shaking in fear.
"SORRY DOESN'T WORK!" Zira roared furiously, striking Nuka in the face and sending him crashing to the ground. "BECAUSE OF YOUR STUPIDITY, WE LOST OUR GOOD DINNER! NOW GET BACK TO THE TRAINING AREA AND WATCH VITANI AND KOVU BETTER! OR SO HELP ME IT WON'T BE SO PRETTY NUKA! NOW GO NOW!"
"O-Ok mother," Nuka stammered, rubbing his face and getting up to his feet and shaking in fear. With that Nuka walked back to the training area.
"Damn that Nuka," Zira growled. "Because of him, our precious delicious food is gone."
"Well Zira we should head back to the training area too," Shaka said. "I mean Kovu is getting close to his mission."
"Yes," a lioness with a brown coat and six dots underneath her right eye, named Doa said. Doa was Shaka's half-sister as well as Chaka's half-sister and had amber eyes. "Then after that, we can get revenge on Simba for killing our father."
"Very well then," Zira said in a calmer voice. "Let's go back. And I better see Nuka there otherwise I will give him the millionth beating." With that Zira walked back to the training area with her loyal lionesses right behind her.
Meanwhile, Simba, Chaka, Kopa, and the cubs returned to Pride Rock where they were met by Kamaria, Nadia, and Aisha, who all looked concerned. "Oh Nafasi thank the kinds your alright," Aisha said, nuzzling her son. Kamaria and Nadia did the same as they pulled their cubs close and nuzzled them while Simba, Chaka, and Kopa explained to them what had happened in the Outlands.
"Oh, Keesha what were you thinking?" Kamaria said giving her daughter's head a lick. "You could have been killed."
"It was an accident mom," Keesha said. "We didn't mean to go to the Outlands. We just got distracted that's all. And that was when we realized that we were in the Outlands."
"Am I in trouble dad?" Asante asked softly, glancing towards his mother and father. Kopa looked at Nadia, then to Chaka, Kamaria, Aisha, and Penda who just came onto the scene upon hearing the cubs going into the Outlands. They all nodded and Kopa said, "No son your not in trouble. I believe Keesha when she said it was an accident. So you're not going to get a punishment son. But you had a long day son."
"Yes, I agree," Aisha chimed in. "Kamaria and I both agree that the cubs. But I also agree with your uncle Nafasi. You've had a long day." With that, Aisha picked up her son and headed inside the royal cave. Nadia and Kamaria followed suit. Chaka as well went inside. Kopa was about to go inside as well until he heard a voice say, "Uncle Kopa?" Kopa spun to see Nadra standing there, a worried expression on her face.
"Yes, Nadra?" Kopa said, approaching his niece. "Are you okay?"
"Where's my mom at?" Nadra asked, the worry clear in her voice. "Did she take a walk again?"
"Well that's odd," Kopa said, looking around and wrinkling a brow, realizing that Kali had been gone for quite a while. "Simba had you upon seen Kali?"
"I haven't seen her," Simba said. "I was doing my patrol and I haven't seen her around the Pride Lands. It's worrying me to what she might be doing right now."
"I'd dread what she is doing now," Kopa said, hoping that Kali isn't doing anything rash. "But I'll go look for her Simba. You can go inside and rest."
"Are you sure Kopa?" Simba asked, looking at his step-son with worry.
"Yeah, I'm sure Simba," Kopa said with a smile. "Get some rest. You need it." Simba still wasn't sure if he should let Kopa go alone. But he decided to go inside the cave to get rest.
"Well Uncle Kopa," Nadra said, looking at her uncle once her step-grandfather was gone. "Let's go find my mom! And I hope she's okay."
"I hope so too," Kopa said. With that Nadra went on top of Kopa's back and went down the side of Pride Rock to go find Kali. But as they were down they ran right into Nala.
"Hello mom," Kopa said with a smile.
"Hi sweetheart," Nala said returning her son's smile. "Have you seen Kali around? I haven't seen her all day and I'm starting to worry about her."
"Well that's what me and Nadra were trying to figure out too," Kopa said. "We're about to go look for her."
"I'll come and help you look for her," Nala said. Kopa gave his mother a grateful smile and the trio set off to go find Kali
After what seemed like ages, the trio finally found Kali leaning against a tree far away from Pride Rock. They were about to lose hopes but after what seemed like forever, they were able to find Kali. "Kali?" Nala said, grabbing Kali's attention. Kali spun around and saw Nala, Kopa, and Nadra on top of Kopa's back, standing there, concerned looks on their face. Kali quickly wiped her eyes with her paw so that her mother, brother, and daughter wouldn't see the tears in her eyes.
"Oh hey guys," Kali said with a down voice.
"Kali are you alright?" Kopa asked the concern clear in his voice.
"Yeah," Kali said softly letting out a sigh of regret. "I'm fine."
"You don't look fine to me Kali," Nala said the worry clear in her voice.
"Mom I'm fine," Kali said trying to sound reassuring but failing. "Really I am."
"Kali, can we talk?" Nala asked. "Just you and me alone?"
"Uh yeah sure," Kali said.
"Can I stay here though?" Nadra asked on top of Kopa's back. "I have every right to worry about my mother."
"Well then," Kopa began as Nadra got off his back. "I guess I'll be going back to Pride Rock now. I'll see you guys later." With that Kopa gave his mother a nuzzle until heading back to Pride Rock.
"Mom you worry too much," Kali said. "I'm fine. Really I am."
"You are not fine," Nala protested. "You've been out and away from the Pride a lot lately. The Pride is worried for you as well as your daughter."
"Well thanks a lot, Kopa," Kali muttered. Then she turned to her mother and said, "I've just been thinking lately. I don't know but Mwoga has been going through my mind. I just can't seem to catch a break from that lion. Nadra reminds me so much of him and it makes me feel sad. I just haven't fully moved on from him. I love my daughter and I feel lonely at times. When Nadra is out playing with her cousins I just feel lonely at times. I do enjoy spending time with my brothers and sisters and you and dad but I want to spend some time with another lion that I can spend time with for the rest of my life. What can I do mom?" Kali looked at Nala her amber eyes pleading tears forming in her eyes.
Nala went over to her daughter and gave her a comforting nuzzle, "I wish I could do something about it, Kali. I really do. But there's sadly nothing I can do about it. The only advice I can give you is trying to focus on your daughter more and that should help you move on from Mwoga."
"Grandma's right mom," Nadra piped up. "I mean you did tell me that dad did abandon us. I already have a ton of father figures so it's not all bad. But if you find someone to be with then I'm fine having a step-dad."
"Your daughter has a point honey," Nala said, nuzzling her daughter.
"Your right mom," Kali said wiping her eyes with her paw. "I do need to focus more on Nadra. I just hate thinking about Mwoga right now."
"Well mom moving on from something is never easy," Nadra said embracing her mother's front leg. "But in time you should be able to move on from my no-good dad."
"Thanks, honey," Kali said, giving her daughter's head a lick. With that, the trio got up and headed back to Pride Rock.
A/N: Well the cubs have survived! But poor Nuka. Zira really has the nerve to hit him. And it seems like Kali got a bit better from her mother's advice, even her daughter. But will she go find a new mate?
As to note that we are inching closer to Kiara's first hunt, so we are close to where Kovu's on his mission to kill Simba.
Anyways, that's it for Chapter 22. See you all later in Chapter 23!
