The waves were rolling in as the sun went down. I was sitting on the beach by myself after doing some yoga and enjoyed the cool September air thinking about the last two months. The preparations for the wedding had been easy with Jane being a calm and to my surprise very organized person. The rock I had clung to whenever panic wanted to grip me.
"Its going to be perfect." She had repeated in her sure swagger with a soft smile whenever I needed to hear it. We had taken 3 weeks off. One before the wedding and two afterwards for our honeymoon.
Despite the load of invitations to stay at Janes families places, we had decided to book a room in a hotel next to the beach which gave us a lot of alone time as a couple but also by ourselves like now. I wasn't scared that getting married was the wrong decision. It was just as if we needed some time to process and prepare ourselves for the next step in our lives.
The wedding would take place in two days at the exact beach where I was sitting right now. It was a private beach belonging to the hotel. I buried my bare feet deep into the warm sand, enjoying the last sunrays of the day while thinking.
Janes family had welcomed me with warm and open arms. I had heard plenty of stories about Jane when she was a child and answered lots of questions about myself as we had met them in the last days.
All Rizzoli's who didn't live in Long Island would arrive tomorrow and would sleep at their relatives places. Korsak, Kiki, Frost and the Isles would sleep at the same hotel where we had our room
With everything being organized I relaxed into the sand, listening to the waves with closed eyes. "Its going to be perfect." I suddenly heard a dark voice whispering to my ears as long arms wrapped me into a hug from behind. I smiled. It was perfect now for sure. "Hey." I said with a gentle smile.
"Hey. I hope I'm not interrupting. But I missed you." Jane replied and rested her chin on my shoulders.
"No, perfect timing. And I missed you too." I turned my head to kiss her.
R&I
The morning of the wedding I woke to the sun lighting up our room. Jane was still asleep, and I could feel her warm breath soft and even against my cheeks as we were laying quite close. I spent a moment or two reveling in this situation before I realized that in some hours we would be married.
My eyes wandered to her hands which were resting in the small spot between us. Honestly, there was only one part at the wedding which made me nervous. It was sliding the ring onto the lean fingers of hers.
"Morning." Came a mumbling voice from the pillow. "You already awake?"
"Only for a few minutes." I said and scooped closer to kiss her onto the cheeks.
"No doubts?" her voice was dark, and it bore a small hint of fear.
"No doubts!" I said firmly with a soft chuckle. "You?"
Her hand came up to caress my cheek softly while a smile spread on her face. "No doubts!" she said. We snuggled together a bit until we got too hungry to resist the smell of coffee and breakfast which was floating into the room by the open balcony door.
"Next time we demand a room which is not over the terrace where they serve breakfast or dinner." Jane cracked a joke while swinging her long legs over the edge of the bed. "Its pure torture!" she elaborated, grabbing some shorts and a button up.
I noticed how her long legs had tanned over the past days which made her look only sexier.
"Are you checking me out Maur?" she asked wiggling her eyebrows in amusement. I blushed for no reason at all and mumbled something about being hungry. Jane laughed out loud. "No sex before the wedding." She said smartly.
"I guess its too late for that, Jane." I chuckled thinking about all the love making in the last months.
"True." The brunette admitted with a grin, obviously thinking of the same thing.
The wedding was planned for 4pm. It was 9am now. So we had plenty of time theoretically if it wasn't for our friends greeting us when we arrived at the breakfast buffet and holding us up till lunch time. Jane broke the record by piling up a huge amount of food onto her plate.
Mine was filled in a moderate way. We walked over to our friends and my family to sit with them. We talked and had fun and just enjoyed being together. The atmosphere was relaxed and joyful. Only when the hotel stuff began to set up the beach for the wedding, I suddenly became slightly nervous.
I subconsciously grabbed Janes hand for support and the brunette glanced at me with a soft smile. A gesture we calmed me down immediately. Before I could even muse where this notion of panic had come from everybody stood up to have some rest before the big event.
R&I
"Do you want to go into the bathroom first?" Jane asked, sitting on the edge of the bed, glancing at me.
"Why don't we go together?" I suggested with a smile. "I could give you a massage." I offered recalling how she had rolled her shoulders earlier. Signs that she too had gotten a bit nervous I mused.
"Oh yeah. Sounds like a plan." She replied with a grin and began to undress herself. As we stood under the spray of water, she pulled me closer so that we were skin on skin a feeling I had come to love since being together. One of her hands rested on the small of my back.
"I love you, Maur." She whispered into my ear. I felt as if she was looking for words to express how she felt and gently rubbed over her back feeling the tenseness in her muscles.
"Its going to be perfect." I just whispered reassuringly into her hear and she pulled away to search my eyes. "To me its always been you." She said, kissing the tip of my nose and I could feel the awe and wonder in her about the deepness of our feelings.
My hand reached for the shower gel and Jane turned so that I could rub it into her shoulders, working my way down her lean back. Humming sounds expressed her appreciation. Once I was finished, she did the same to me.
Taking our time, we covered each other with kisses and gentle touches before leaving the shower to lay down onto the bed. I was all relaxed and thought that it couldn't harm to close my eyes for a few minutes.
I was awoken by my phone ringing. Jane who had fallen asleep too, glanced at me with one eye open as I picked up. It was mother who asked where I was. Only then I recalled that I had made it a point to come to her room around 2pm to get dressed.
"What time is it?" Jane yawned and stretched. "its 2:30" I mumbled, seeing her jump out of bed. "Hell, we are going to be late for our own wedding." She exclaimed. I chuckled as she started to run around the room in a hectic. All the while she had been the calm and I'm the nervous. The tables had suddenly turned as I noticed.
R&I
Mother and I walked slowly to the elevator. My heart sped up as I thought that we would tie the knot in less than an hour now. We loved each other more than anything and this was a logic step in our joint life. But what got me most was the realization that I didn't want to do it for some logic reason, but out of my feelings for her.
My mother did some adjustments by pulling my simple white dress into various directions. "You look beautiful." She told me with a reassuring smile. My hand held a bouquet and shook slightly in excitement and anticipation.
Soon, very soon, I would see the cloths Jane had chosen. I bit my lips when the door of the elevator slid open and I saw my father already waiting for me. When he saw me, he smiled and said that I looked great. But most important, he said that he had never seen me that happy before.
It was the truth – as cheesy as it sounded but this one of the happiest days in my life. "Have you seen Jane?" I asked breathless after the firm hug, he had given me.
He winked. "She's already outside talking to Korsak and the lots. She's just beaming. You two definitely belong together because you make each other so happy."
Frankie rushed by with the wedding rings. Stopping only to give me a hug and a few words. "Ready?" he asked with a grin.
"Yes." I said, taking a deep breath. We were standing in the lobby. I couldn't see Jane, but from what Frankie told me she was already standing at the desk, waiting for me. He nudged me gently and stated that he would inform everybody that the wedding could begin.
Constance left me with a peck to my cheek to take her place amongst the crowd and we stood nervously until the music started to play. We had decided for a string quartet.
I slid my hands into Arthurs and we both took a deep breath before walking through the doors into the sun. With all of Janes relatives a huge crowd had gathered, and everybody turned their heads towards us as we slowly walked down the aisles between the chairs.
I only had eyes for Jane though. Arthur had been right: she looked absolutely stunning in simple white linen pants with a white linen button up. The first bottoms were open and revealed part of her cleavage and the white top she was wearing underneath it.
I noticed that she had decided to put on a decent make up. But the most beautiful thing were the beaming brown orbs which locked with mine.
Once we had reached the desk Arthur placed my hand into hers firmly before kissing me onto the cheeks. The smile he gave Jane didn't escape me and my heart swelled in the warmth around me.
"You look beautiful!" Jane whispered to my ear, coming closer to kiss my cheeks. "You look gorgeous too." I replied with a soft smile and breathless. We focused on Korsak who had cleared his throat and giggled.
Our hands were interlaced during the whole ceremony. The elder detective had prepared a nice speech after which we each said our vows, which were simple but sweet. There was no need to elaborate and hold long speeches about how we loved each other.
Jane squeezed my hand and I squeezed back. Our eyes said more than words could ever say. The brunette had been right: it was perfect.
"You may kiss the bride now." Korsak said after we had spoken our vows and we laughed at his confused look. "I mean you might kiss each other now." He wiggled his eyebrows.
There was a shy moment and I was glad when Janes face gently approached mine. We smiled through the kiss because everybody started to stand up and cheer. I'm sure that my face turned red when Jane deepened the kiss a little and the cheering became stronger.
Afterwards we accepted loads of congratulations. Among the some from Angela who had proved to be sincere and honest and supportive of our relationship since our talk.
It was only after dinner when the atmosphere became more relaxed to us. We had chosen five courses which were interrupted by speeches from Frankie, Korsak and Frost who was my best man.
All of them were funny, warm and welcoming. The Isles had great fun with the Rizzolis which made us especially happy.
Later we danced to the song which had accompanied us since the first meeting at the bar: "I'd love you to want me" Jane whispered into my ear along the text while I pulled her closer. It was the song which was the truest to our relationship I thought.
And a smile spread over my face as I rested my head against her neck, smelling her scent, realizing how a simple coincidence had brought us together and how easy everything had been since that night. I smiled at Janes braveness that night and about the future which lay ahead of us.
