Everything After
Chapter 26
Over the years we've worked with Emmett to give him supervised visits with Cooper, Boothe and Bonnie didn't want anything to do with Emmett and the feeling was mutual, so we didn't push it. Emmett would do good and stay sober for a month or two and then fall off the wagon and not show up, the final straw was at Coopers first Pee Wee football game, he showed up with a girl who was maybe half his age, barely any clothes on and they were both coked out of their heads, followed in by Esme who looked like she was 80 years old. "What are you doing here?" I hissed.
"I'm here to see my boy play!" Emmett shouted.
"What's it to you?" Esme snarked.
"What matters is that Emmett is coked out of his fucking mind, this little girl has no clothes on, and you're not even supposed to be around me at all!" I stated.
"Are you jealous of Emmett's new wife?" Esme laughed.
"Wife?" I chuckled. "No, I'm not jealous at all, I feel sorry for her."
"You're such a petty bitch!" Esme scoffed.
"Petty?" I questioned.
"You're jealous because he's married to a Playboy Bunny now." Esme shrugged.
"Oh, so you'll bleed her dry now since Emmett doesn't have any money?" I challenged.
Esme slapped me, perfect timing, the police were walking up, I knew Peter had walked away to call them.
"Ma'am are you Okay?" the officer asked.
"Yes, she has violated her restraining order though. I'd like to press charges as well and Emmett McCarty and his wife, are both coked out, I know that's a violation of his probation." I informed the officer.
The officer took care of all the paperwork, led Esme to his car in cuffs and informed me she would probably be out on bail by morning, but it's the least he could do for all I'd been through tonight and because of who my dad is. "Thank you. I should have had them written off a long time ago, but I tried to do the right thing for the children." I shrugged.
"I understand. Giving the benefit of the doubt isn't always easy. I have a horrible ex as well." He chuckled.
"Everything okay?" Carlisle asked walking up. "I saw cop cars driving away." He sighed.
"Yes, now let's watch Cooper." I hugged Carlisle.
After that fiasco we didn't have to worry about Emmett and Esme any longer, Peter and Allister got the best attorneys and destroyed them in court. I felt bad for Cooper, but he was old enough to understand what was happening and Peter wanted us to be one family, once everything was finalized with Emmett, we could take that next step.
10 Years Later…
"Bella, you've got to stop crying." Peter chuckled.
"I'm sorry. Cooper is signing with Washington State college today and I'm excited and sad, we've only got Mila and Miles left now. Bonnie is off living her best life being a flight attendant, while taking classes in her free time and Boothe loves working with you and taking businesses classes, we've got great kids, we've done good Peter." I wiped my tears.
"We have done good Bella." Peter kissed my forehead. "You know he's here, right?" Peter asked in all seriousness.
"I figured he would be." I sighed.
"He called Aro, Aro and dad met with me. Emmett won't come near any of us, just wants to watch Cooper sign. He's followed his school career and feels bad for everything that happened. He's cut his mom loose, as has Aro. He's living in Oregon and using his degree to work in sports medicine. You know I'm his least favorite person, but dad has been having him followed and talked to his parole officer, he's clean, he attends his meetings, he's kept clean since he's been out. He had to promise not to come in contact with any of us today." Peter assured me.
"I don't want him ruining this for Cooper. This isn't about Emmett." I gave Peter a look.
"I know. We've got someone watching and standing by to make sure. Now relax, here comes everyone else, Charlie knows too, that's it." Peter squeezed my hand.
The day went off without a hitch! While Cooper was busy with his friends, I excused myself to use the bathroom and came face to face with Emmett as he was leaving.
"Sorry Bella, I'm on my way out." Emmett hung his head.
"Peter told me you've been doing well these past three years." I spoke up.
"Yeah. I'm sober and clean. Kicked Esme to the curb, she fucked me up. I'm sorry for all the sh…" he was apologizing, and I held up my hand.
"It's done, it's over. I'm happy, the kids grew up pretty well rounded and unscathed considering, Cooper has had the hardest time the past couple of years because the football scouts have been coming out of the woodwork, wanting him for the Pros, but he knew he didn't want to go that route." I smiled.
"I'm glad. You and Peter did good. I kept tabs on him." He shrugged.
"I figured. I'm just glad you didn't interfere."
"I didn't want to go back to prison and my lawyer got me a pretty sweet setup, I still wouldn't want to go back." He shook his head. "I did have a few scouts contact me about Cooper, I told them the truth, I couldn't help them, but look at his stats they spoke for themselves and if I knew anything, his mom would make him go to college before going Pro." He chuckled and I nodded.
"Well I need to get back; Peter will come looking soon." I smiled.
"Take care Bella." Emmett waved and was gone.
Walking back to our big group Peter hugged me and questioned with his eyes and I smiled, he knew at that moment that everything after would be fine.
