Chapter Twenty Seven

~ ROSE ~

I was now six months pregnant. I wasn't on bedrest anymore, but I was on house rest. This made me so much happier, since I could sit on the balcony and get fresh air. My spirits were up, I wasn't getting as sick anymore, or as often.

Nina wasn't allowed to be my doctor, since we were related and since she wasn't an obstetrician. Instead, she set us up with one of the best OBGYNs in the country. Usually, it was hard to get her to be on a case, but since I was considered a high-risk pregnancy and since she knew Nina well, we got her as my doctor.

We still hadn't found out the sex of the baby. Every time I had an ultrasound, the baby was at an angle that didn't allow us to find out. But tomorrow, I was supposed to have another ultrasound, and we desperately wanted to find out.

I woke up that morning to find Jack asleep next to me. It was rare for Jack to sleep later than me. He hadn't been sleeping as well since I got home from the hospital, since he was so worried. Usually, by the time I woke up, Jack had already made coffee and was reading in bed.

I smiled at how peaceful he looked. Jack was laying on his side. His golden strands were on the pillow and he had a small smile. His hand was secured on my belly.

I slowly freed myself from his arms and got up to make breakfast and coffee for when he woke up. I then climbed into bed next to him again. "Jack," I stroked his cheek.

"Hmm?" He tossed a bit before opening his eyes.

"Time to find out the sex of our baby," I smiled.

Jack smiled too. "Oh, right." He took my hands and helped me out of bed. "I'm excited."

"Okay, let's make a little bet," Jack said. "I bet it's a boy."

"Hmmm," I shook my head, rubbing my belly. "It feels like a girl."

Jack smiled as I started getting dressed. It was getting harder and harder for me to do normal tasks like tying my shoes and getting dressed, and I was a lot clumsier.

I sat on the edge of the bed, holding my shoes. "Can you help me?"

"Of course." Jack stood up and slid on my shoes. He stood up and kissed me. "There you go, beautiful."

"Thanks," I smiled. Jack grabbed my hands and helped me stand up. "I'm really nervous."

"Why?" Jack asked.

"I don't know," I sighed. "I don't."

"Well, there's no reason to be nervous," he took my hand in his. "Everything's going to be okay, and in an hour, we'll hopefully know the baby's gender."

I nodded. We both got into the car, and I reclined my chair a bit. "Things are starting to get uncomfortable. I miss seeing what my toes look like!"

Jack laughed. "I'm sorry. I can't even imagine."

"That's okay," I smiled. I looked down at my belly and rubbed it. My little baby was in there. And I already loved it more than anything.

We finally arrived at the hospital. We were shown to an exam room, and I started putting on a gown. Jack helped me climb back onto the table. There was a knock at the door, and the doctor walked in. "Hey, how's it going?"

"Hi, Doctor Fields," I smiled. "Do you think we can find out the gender today?"

"We should be able to," the doctor smiled. She picked up the robe to reveal my belly. "How are you feeling?"

"Getting harder to move around," I said.

"That's normal," she told me. She squeezed some gel onto my belly, causing me to shiver. "Sorry, it's a bit cold."

Jack took my hand and held it. The doctor moved the wand around my belly, and finally we heard the heartbeat. "I'm nervous!" I smiled.

"Don't be," Dr. Fields smiled. She moved the wand around. "So, everything looks good so far. The baby's healthy, the size is good. You're healthy. I want to keep seeing you every few weeks, and hopefully you'll reach at least thirty seven weeks before you go into labor. Right now, you're at twenty six."

"Good," Jack smiled, kissing my hand.

"Can you tell what it is?" I asked.

Jack and I were squeezing each other's hands. Dr. Fields nodded. "Yes, I can." She smiled at the screen. "And you're sure you want to know?"

"Yes," Jack and I said at the same time.

Dr. Fields smiled as she looked at us. "It's a…"
