Chapter Twenty-Two
Jasper's thoughts are in italics
Someone talking to Edward with their thoughts bolded and underlined
April 12, 2006 (10 PM)
Alice is sitting alone in her and Jasper's room trying to get a fix on Victoria. Edward had decided to try to figure out what she was up to. He had asked her to find Victoria after finding out how Leah had gotten hurt. Of course, she had known about it, but didn't figure Victoria would be a threat with ten vampires and three wolves around. Edward had convinced her they should still watch out for her, just in case.
Alice looks up as the door opens. Jasper walks in smiling at her while he closes the door behind him. "Hello, my dear. Any luck?"
Alice frowns. Guess not. "It is like she knows that if she doesn't make any set decisions I will not be able to find her. But how would she know that?!"
Good thing the bedrooms are sound proof. No one knows what we are up to except Edward. She would have given away our looking for Victoria otherwise. "Should I call Edward up here? Maybe he can help." Jasper asks.
Alice just nods and goes back to looking. Jasper turns and opens the door. Edward, come here please! Edward was so glad the sound proofing had a bonus side effect; he couldn't "hear" anything with the doors closed. Edward could not have been happier about that. He was just as happy about the added benefit of not having to feel what was going on behind closed doors either.
Jasper chuckles as he closes the door behind Edward and himself. Edward smirks at Jasper's thoughts while Jasper goes and sits next to Alice and holds her hand.
Edward stops smirking when he reads Alice's thoughts and growls in frustration. Jasper looks up and glares at him.
"Easy, Jasper. I wasn't growling at you two. I know Alice is doing all she can but I want her gone. She tried to attack my family!" Edward is growling again by the end. Again, thank God for sound proofing.
Alice looks at Edward. "How is she hiding from me? No one knows how my powers work except my family. As far as we know, she doesn't even know our family has any powers."
Alice is really worried. Edward can hear she is worried she is losing her power. He didn't really think that was possible. But he knew who would. "I think it is time to bring Carlisle into this. He might have an idea about what is going on." Jasper nods in agreement then turns to look at Alice.
"I don't know Edward…" Her eyes un-focus as she is pulled into a vision. Edward and her watch the vision play out as Jasper sits and tries to be patient.
Alice's vision:
Carlisle is on the phone with Tonya. Her voice is shaking. "Hello, Carlisle. Laurent would like to speak to you." She quickly hands the phone over to Laurent. Laurent begins begging for forgiveness. He explains how he and Irina had been out hunting when Victoria snuck up on them while they were eating. She had grabbed him and threatened to kill him if Irina didn't answer her questions. She wanted to know all there was to know about the Cullen family. Out of fear, Irina had told them all she knew. Once Victoria got what she wanted, she said "If you tell anyone I was ever here I will come back and kill you all." She ran off after that. They had run home right away, but not before agreeing not to say anything to anyone. He knew how she was and he was afraid she would come back and kill the whole family. But they had been acting too off, so Tonya made Irina and Laurent tell the rest of them what was going on. Which lead to this phone call…
Alice's eyes come back into focus. She gasps. "So that's how she knows." She turns to Jasper. "She went and found Laurent and threatened to kill him if Irina didn't tell her everything she knew about all of us!"
Edward continues "Irina and Laurent didn't tell anyone because she said she would kill them if they did. He traveled with her enough he convinced Irina not to say anything. He really thought she would come back and kill them all."
"How did you see all this? I mean, what set the vision into action?" Jasper asked.
"Tonya is going to call Carlisle. Irina and Laurent finally told the rest of the family. My guess is Tonya decided we needed to know what was going on. To not cause a panic, I think we need to get Carlisle in his room before the phone rings. The wolves are not going to be happy if they find out the kids are still in danger."
That's an understatement. "What are we going to do? If Victoria knows where they live she could go back and hurt them. What if she made more newborns? I am not sure they would be able to handle an attack like we did." Jasper points out.
"He's right. Do you think there is enough room on our land to build another house? It doesn't have to be as fancy as ours but just big enough for them all to have their own rooms." Alice wonders if Bella would be upset about that.
"I agree. Jasper, why don't you go talk to Bella and ask her if she would be okay with building another house. This is her property after all. She seems to trust you the most." Edward looks down as he finishes talking. I really wish she would trust me.
It will be okay Edward. She loves you, trust me. I have been talking to her still, she is just scared to trust you right now. It will take time, but never doubt that she loves you. Jasper again sends what Bella feels when Edward is in the room towards him. Even though there is still some fear and confusion mixed in there, love is the dominate feeling. Edward smiles a little in appreciation.
"I'll go get Carlisle and bring him here, Alice. I will be back in a minute." With that, Edward runs out the door and up to Carlisle's office where he had said he was heading a few hours ago.
Jasper quickly kisses Alice's forehead and runs out the door to find Bella. I had last seen her outside with the kids. She was reading a book while the kids were riding the wolves like horses. It had become a favorite game of theirs. And of course, because of the imprinting, the wolves thought it was a great game too. It was hard to make fun of someone when they didn't see anything wrong with what was going on. Jasper shakes his head as he steps out the back door. He takes in his surroundings. Everyone is doing their own things. Enjoying their time together. Jasper sighs. And now I get to ruin the good mood…
