Chapter 31: Power Tech

Class 1A had finally returned to their class, and began their regular schedules once again. Once class was dismissed, Gohan looked out the window, watching the Sun crawl under the horizon as he pulled out his phone and called an old friend. "Gohan! What can I do for you?"

"Hey, Bulma. So I was hoping that Capsule Corps could take me on for a Work Study. Would that be asking too much?" He asked her, turning away and leaving the classroom.

"Oh, I'm sorry to tell you, but we don't take on students for that Work Study program. Don't forget that Vegeta is the only one we really need when it comes to catching villains, so we never registered for it." She told him apologetically.

"Oh, that's alright." Gohan told her, realizing that he had put himself into a predicament by interning with Capsule Corps.

"I can direct you to an old friend, though. He came to Japan to train under my father, and frankly, he's as close to me as you'll get with anyone else. He's the CEO of Power Tech Enterprise and Hero Agency, goes by the name 'Ajax.' I can give him a call real quick and have him contact you, if you'd like."

"That'd be great! I'd really appreciate it, Bulma!" He said. "I always appreciate your help!"

"Of course. You've done so much for us, after all. Need I remind you who saved the Earth?"

"Right…" Gohan agreed with a blush.

"Well, I'll go ahead and call him. Keep your phone nearby." Bulma told him before hanging up, sounding the tone on his side. Gohan put his phone away as he heard his name being called out from behind.

"Hey, Gohan!" Turning around, he could see Kaminari running up to him.

"Denki! What are you still doing here?" Gohan asked him as he shortened his stride and slowed his walking speed.

Catching up, Kaminari smiled at his classmate. "Don't you remember what you were saying about my Quirk? And a better way to use it? I was hoping that I'd find a Hero who could help me learn! At first, I wasn't going to do a Work Study, because it'd get in the way of our school work, but I think if I work hard, I can better control my power!" He explained.

"That's great, but it doesn't really answer my question." Gohan told him, securing his loose bag on his shoulder.

"Oh, sorry!" With a chuckle, Kamanari better elaborated. "I was asking Mr. Aizawa and Mr. Yagi if they knew any Pro Heroes that had an electric-type Quirk!"

"Did he know anybody?"

"Yeah, he said he knew this hero named Omega! He's one of the top 50 heroes in the world and he can put in a good word for me!"

"That's great, Denki. I hope you do well with your Work Study." Gohan told him as the two stepped outside. As they stepped off towards their dorms, Gohan's phone began to ring. As he picked it up and looked at the screen, he waved to his friend. "I need to take this, I'll catch up with you later, Denki!" Running ahead Gohan answered the call and put the phone up to his ear.

"Hello, is this Gohan Son?" A man's voice spoke over the phone.

"Yes, Sir, may I ask who's calling?"

"My name is Ajax. I'm sure you've heard about me from Bulma. I understand that you're a student, and you're working for an agency to carry out your Work Study with, is that correct?" The man asked.
"Great! Bulma tells me you're a super capable fighter. Come by my office after school tomorrow, I'm located in Shinjuku, you can find my building by looking for the incredibly-sized T-shaped building." He said briefly before hanging up.

"Wha…" I was hoping to get a little more information than that… "Shinjuku…"

As directed, Gohan flew to Shinjuku the following day after classes were dismissed. Now that he had his Provisional License, he was able to fly about worry-free. Just as he was told, a massive T-shaped building rose above the skyscrapers around it. Landing in front of the building, Gohan could see how tall it was from below, roughly two hundred meters. As he walked inside, he was met by beige walls and black carpets, and the mahogany desk before him was occupied with a couple of computers being operated by some professionally-dressed women. "Good afternoon, young man, can we help you?"

"Hi, I was supposed to meet Mr. Ajax today… Where would I find him?" Gohan asked her, putting his hands on the table.

"Are you here for Power Tech Enterprise or Hero Agency?" She asked him.

"Hero Agency, Ma'am."

"Do you have an appointment? Can I have your name, please?" She told her as she began to type on her keyboard.

"Gohan Son, ma'am. Mr. Ajax called me yesterday afternoon." He explained as her face began to contort.

"Mr. Son, I don't see your name in here." She told her with a frown.

"Actually, Hinata," the woman next to her chimed in, "Mr. Powers said he'd be in a meeting, and that he didn't want any visi-"

"Kid, what are you doing in my lobby?" A man suddenly said as he walked in through the front door. "Our minimum age of employment is 18-years. Only exceptions are for exceptional 17-and-a-half-year-olds." Turning around, Gohan could see a man, just over six-feet tall, with a copper-ish crew cut and long stubble. His blue eyes were emphasized by the color of his hair, and his onyx-colored suit melded well with his dark-red dress shirt and black-and-red stripped tie.

"I'm sorry, Sir. I was supposed to meet with Mr. Ajax today." Looking back to confirm what he heard, Gohan could see nervous looks on the womens' faces.

"Ah, you must be Gohan Son, then. Come with me, I'll take you to him." The man said as he put a hand against Gohan's back and gestured him down the hall. "Glad to have you here, I guarantee you'll make a good addition to the crew. Kinda the dysfunctional-family-type, but in a good, endearing, 'hate them, but you gotta love them' kinda way, ya know?" Looking down, Gohan's face was entirely lost. "Course ya do." Gohan couldn't get much of a read on the man, most likely due to his nearly blacked-out sunglasses. "Hey, relax, kid. Mr. Powers isn't a monster, he's just incredibly rich and handsome and powerful. So he's just like a monster, but not as bad.."

Looking down at the student with a smile, Gohan made his best attempt to breathe and calm down. As the bulbs surrounding the numbers indicating the floors lit up and faded, the climb to the very top seemed to last an eternity. Once the bell in the elevator finally dinged, signaling that they had arrived at their destination, the doors crept open and Gohan took in the sight before him. A lavish office, similar to a luxury penthouse, lain just beyond the hall of elevators. Right across from the elevators was a circular desk with several monitors arranged and suspended in a plus shape, with several stools around it. Just to the left of it was a large assortment of filing cabinets, all labeled prominently, and to the far right was a living room-like area, complete with purple carpet underneath a long black sectional sofa, and a loveseat at the corner of the carpet. With a glass table in the middle of the carpet, a television mounted on the wall hung parallel to the sofa. On the far left was a kitchen, with a set of islands, and a bar against the wall. Next to it was a door leading into the unknown. As they walked on, Gohan could see that the entirety of the floor was on a slightly lower elevation, and stepped down the few steps in front of him to reach its level. Behind him was a flight of stairs going to another floor, most likely inaccessible by elevator.

"Wow…" Looking around, Gohan noticed a masculine figure sitting at the circular desk, clad in white medieval armor, with the addition of a long white cape, and armed with a broadsword. Walking up to him, Gohan bowed his head in respect. "Good afternoon. I'm sorry to interrupt, Mr. Ajax, but I'm here to apply for my Work Study."

"You're here for the Work Study?" A deep voice spoke. "Hm… That's a UA uniform, isn't it? Meaning that you're Gohan Son, correct?" He asked, looking Gohan up and down. Beneath the plates of armor, Gohan spotted black, the undersuit, of course. His shoulder plates were quite large, each one about as big as his head, and his collar was elevated to better shield his neck. His chest jutted out slightly in a diamond shape, and his boots were pointed at the end.

"That's correct, Sir." Gohan told him as he lifted his head.

"Well, I hate to break it to you, Mr. Son, but I am not Ajax." He said as he stood. He stood at about 185 centimeters, roughly half a foot taller than Gohan was.

"Well, uh, Sir, where would I find him then?" Gohan asked. "I thought he was in a meeting…"

Pointing to the man who brought him to the office, the knight spoke almost comically, with a slight chuckle. "He's right behind you."

Turning around, Gohan looked at the smiling man. "Huh…?"

"Yeah, sorry about that, kid. I just felt like having a little fun. I tell them I'm in a meeting so that they'll leave me alone and I can go out for a while." Scratching the back of his head, the man, supposedly Ajax, reached out a hand. "It's nice to meet you, Gohan Son. My name is Richard Powers, also known as the Tech Hero: Ajax. Welcome to Power Tech." He introduced as Gohan took his hands.

"So who is…" As Gohan pointed to the man behind him, Powers began to explain, and Gohan watched as the suit began to bend and creek, opening from the chest.

"This is my Sidekick. She's the lovely Yuri Amane, hero name: White Knight." As the armor receded to the small of her back, Amane revealed herself with a smile, and Gohan could see that she actually stood at 180 centimeters, still taller than himself, but much closer than her previous height. She was very lean, with defined muscles that weren't too big or too small, and she had black eyes and black cheek-length Hime-style hair. The black suit was now fully visible, with a watch fastened on her wrist, and as it turned out she had a slight bump on her chest where her 'earthly desires' should have been.

"Are you staring at my chest?" She asked as Gohan's cheeks flushed. He began shaking his head and his hands violently, but before he could deny and apologize, Amane began to laugh. "Relax, small fry. I know someone my height should be a little more developed in that area. Don't worry, I just tie them down since it's easier to move around in the armor that way." As she explained, the metal that was once all over her body was now in the shape of a backpack, resting on her back with secured, although slightly loose, straps.

"So, Son, you want to join my agency, is that correct?" Powers asked as he took a seat behind his desk.

"Yes, Sir! I believe that I can be a valuable asset to you!" He shouted with a bow as the man laughed.

"I told you on the elevator, kid, relax. Now look, there's one thing everybody has to do before they can join my agency." He began to explain, catching Gohan's attention. "They have to fight and be approved by my Sidekick. No ifs, ands, or buts."

"Right… I can do that…" Gohan said to himself, looking his soon-to-be opponent up and down. His eyes were immediately attracted to her waist, where a tail suddenly loosened and waved about side-to-side. "Wha-!?"

"What? Have you never seen someone with a Mutant-type Quirk before? I'd say that's minus points." She told him, crossing her arms. "I got it from my mother. And since my father could manipulate metal, I received both aspects." She explained as her tail continued to wave back and forth, never failing to catch Gohan's attention.

"R-Right…" Gohan was stunned. The black hair…and eyes… Could it actually be…?

"Listen, just past that door in the kitchen is a dojo. You'll fight in there, and I'll be watching from in here, where neither of your Quirks can touch me. Sound good?" He asked, lacing his fingers together and resting his head on top of his hands.

"Always, Boss." She said. "By the way, Son, it's getting real creepy with you staring at me for so long." She told him as she began to walk. "It's bad enough that Mr. Powers stares all me all damned day."

"O-Oh! I'm sorry!" Gohan told her as he began to follow.

"Hey, it's not my fault that you have such great assets. It was a bonus to hiring you, after all. I have to enjoy the view!" He called out after them as they entered the dojo.

Amane slammed the door shut behind them, and Gohan took in the scenery. Equipment was scattered all along the white walls of the gym. Although the floor around the walls were made of a felt-like carpet, the middle of the massive room was dedicated to sparring, with the floor made of PVC rubber nitrile. As Amane walked across the mat, she called out to Gohan. "Would you prefer regular flooring, tile, or mat?"

"Regular flooring, please." He requested as Amane tapped a button on her watch. Two panels of flooring crawled over the mat until they met in the middle, blending in seamlessly to the rest of the floor.

"Alright, are you ready?" She asked as Gohan stared at her intently.

"Ms. Amane… By chance have you…?" As Gohan found himself struggling to ask his question, Amane looked at him with a confused gaze. "Have you ever heard of the Saiyans?"

Thank you to DRAGONDAVE45 for the character of Richard Powers. More to come soon, but if you enjoy my work, check out 'A Second Chance,' a similar crossover with a darker undertone. If you like this, you'll love that!
