The last thing Padme remembers is pain all over her body and then looking up into the bluest, most beautiful eyes she had ever seen and feeling safe for the first time in a long time.
She slowly opened her eyes being blinded by the bright light. She looked around seeing she was no longer on the Death Star, but in a medical bay. She looked over and saw, Luke, next to her. She smiled seeing he was okay.
Noticing she was awake, he walked over to her. "You're awake. How are you feeling?"
"Weak, but definitely better than the last time I was awake." She tried smiling at him, but even that hurt her.
She thought back to the force lightening and doesn't think she has ever felt pain like that before. She has experience her fair share from being shot a few times and getting clawed on her back by a nexu, but nothing like that.
"Where is everyone? What happened? How did we escape?" She tried sitting up slowly remembering everything that happened.
"We won, kinda. The Emperor managed to escape, but Han and Leia managed to destroy the generate bringing down the shield allowing Lando and his team to destroy the Death Star. They should be arriving here soon." Luke told her.
"I don't understand. How did you defeat both the Empire and Vader?" She asked still not understanding how they managed to escape. They both were close to death the last she remembered.
"Father stopped the emperor from harming us and almost had him too, but that slim ball got away. He is still out there, but a lot of his men died today. He is afraid I can feel it." Luke said clenching his fist.
Padme laid back down to stunned by what she just heard. Anakin. Her Anakin. He saved them and fought against the emperor. "You said he got away. Does that mean he killed," She tried saying, but couldn't finish afraid what her son would tell her.
"No, he helped us escape, but he got injured and passed out. I brought him back here and after a much heated conversation they decided to unwilling help him. They fixed everything, even his injury that caused him to be in the suit to begin with." Luke said.
Padme could clearly see there was something he wasn't telling her. "Where is he now?"
"He is in the room next to yours." Luke sighed. "They want to put him on trial for war crimes. They have him handcuffed and there are guards guarding his door. I tried to reason with them that he changed. That he saved us, but all I managed was to get him the medical attention he need." Luke said clearly frustrated.
He is only handcuffed, surely he can get out of them, but why hasn't he yet. Why he is accepting this fate, unless he truly has changed. "Does Leia know he is here?"
"Yes, I managed to contact her and as you could guess she clearly wasn't too happy about my decision." Luke told her.
No she imagined Leia wouldn't be happy, after everything he has done to her. "When Leia gets here, can you tell her I would like to speak with her. I'm tired of hiding things. She probably won't be too happy, but hopefully she understands." Padme sighed, afraid about this upcoming conversation.
"I'll be sure to tell her. I'll let you rest now. "Luke said squeezing her hand before standing up and walking away. "There is one more question. While I was bring you both here, father kept saying the name Padme and the Emperor called you Senator Amidala. Is that you?"
"Yes. That's my really name. Padme Amidala Naberrie Skywalker. "She paused saying the last part having not used that in quite sometime. She wasn't actually even sure she had said it out loud before. "Sabe was the name of one of my handmaiden and dear friend back in the day."
"That suits you much better." Luke said smiling and leaving her room.
She laid on her pillow just looking up at the ceiling not sure if she would be able to sleep. Not even sure what time it was, she figured it had to be late at night. She just couldn't stop her mind for going over everything that has happened, everything she just learned, and everything that was about to happen.
She wasn't sure how Leia was going to react to her telling her the truth. She already was upset with her for lying before, how could she explain this. She hoped she would react like Luke, but she knew Luke never had parents. That he was willing to look past both her and Anakin's faults. She just hoped, Leia would understand. She would make her understand. She has gotten too close to loose her now.
She thought back to what she told Luke he name truly was. She wasn't sure why she included Skywalker. It's not like she was used to saying it. There marriage was a secret, she never told anyone it. She just was confused. Her thoughts kept racing back to Anakin. She couldn't believe the very man, who has brought nothing, but pain and destruction to the galaxy and everyone in it, saved them.
Could it be true? Could her Anakin truly be back? She grabbed on to her necklace. She wasn't sure if she truly could believe it, until she saw it for herself.
She slowly got up and put her feet on the ground. Feeling pain run up her whole body. She exhaled dealing with the pain, which wasn't nearly as bad as the pain that caused this. She stood up having to hold onto the bed to stop from falling. She slowly took a few steps, gaining alittle bit of strength and stepped out the door.
She was just greatly she didn't have far to walk. Luke was right there where two guards guarding his door. She just hoped they would let her in.
"General Sabe, very good to see you up and well." The one guard said to her.
"Please, you don't have to call me that. I, I would like to see An-Vader." She said stubbing over his name.
Both the guards looked at each other not sure what to do .
"I am a General as you just said." She said hoping that worked and it did. They stepped outside allowing her in.
She walked in shutting the door behind her. She looked over at the figure on the bed and gasped having to hold onto the door. He looked just like Anakin. He was sleeping and looked so peaceful. The few time she saw his face, when he was Vader, it was still full of hate and rage. This face, the face she was looking at now, just looked like her loving husband.
She walked closer to him, seeing he was handcuffed. His hair was long the way she liked it. It was brushing across his face, practically in his eyes. She had to stop herself from reaching her hand out and running her hands through it.
She crossed her arms, but really sure what to do . She just looked at him, still not believing her eyes.
Anakin woke up looking around seeing he was still in the medical room, he woke up in after his surgery. He still couldn't believe they actually fixed him. It kind of seems like a waste, since right after he woke up, they all barged in her, telling him he was to be on trial for war crimes. He knew what was going to happen. There was no way they were going to find him innocent. He knew they were going to sentence him to death, for he was far to dangerous to be left alive.
He sighed, knowing he deserved this fate. All he cared about was he managed to save Luke, Leia, and Padme. He could feel her presence and knew she was close by . He hoped he at least got to see her before they sentenced him. He also hoped Leia would visit him, but he found that doubtful. After everything he did to her, he would be surprised if she wasn't the one that would kill him.
He tried moving his hand, only to be stopped by his restraints. He sighed knowing how easily he could get out, but chose not too. He deserved this. No he deserved worse.
He heard someone outside his door and quickly shut his eyes, not in the mood to talk to any of these rebels. As the door opened, he felt her presence and heard her gasp. He decided to stay still and pretend he was asleep.
He could feel her confusion and wasn't sure if she was going to get any closer, until he felt her next to him. He could feel his heart racing just being near her again. He felt her hesitate and reach out to him before pulling back and sighing.
"You can touch me you know. I'm a Sith Lord, but I don't bite." He said opening his eyes and smirked. He watched her jump back clearly startled by him being awake.
She just looked at him with her big brown eyes, clearly not sure of what to say.
"I'm happy to see you are okay." He said trying to sit up just a little.
Oh how he wanted to run his fingers through her hair and just feel her skin. He wanted the touch of her lips on his lips. It has been far too long and this was agonizing.
"I guess I should say thank you, for ,um, saving me." Padme said biting her lip, barely even looking at him.
"Please, don't thank me. I'm the reason you were in that situation. I'm the reason you felt that pain." He said shutting his eyes, picturing and hearing both her and Luke's screaming. "I have caused you so much pain. I'm so sorry Padme."
"Why? Why did you do it?" Padme asked finally looking at him.
"Why did I save you or why did I do everything?" Anakin asked her confused.
"Both. I know you tried telling me and I didn't listen, but I'm open to listening now. Why did you do everything? Why did you turn, kill, and hurt everyone you cared about? How could you follow and do what Palpatine said? I just don't understand." Padme asked feeling the tears in her eyes, but refusing to cry.
All I wanted since this happened was to tell her why, but how can I possible put it all into words. "He promised me the power to save you."
"Save me? From what? That dream you had about me dying in child birth?" Padme asked.
"Yes, after I couldn't save my mother, I had to save you. The Jedi couldn't help me nor did they trust me. After everything I did, after all the battles I won, they didn't trust me." He felt himself growing angry thinking about them. He calmed himself down, knowing now was not the time. "My Mas- No Palpatine, found out about our marriage and about the dream. He manipulated me into thinking he was the only one who could save you. I-I couldn't loose you, Padme you were my everything."
"But even after everything you did that I looked away from and after you had the power, you still turned against me, trying to kill me." Padme said unable to hold back the tears anymore.
He moved his hand, trying to wipe the tear, but couldn't. "The power was so strong. I thought I could handle it and get what I needed from it and shut it off, but I couldn't. I enjoyed the power and you wanted me to turn by back against it and then I saw Obi-wan there and thought just like everyone else you turned against me."
"Why didn't you talk to me? I could have helped you." Padme said.
"I knew there was nothing you could do and you were busy with the Senate." He said seeing the hurt on her face. "But you are right, I should have, but he twisted everything in my mind and made he believe I couldn't even trust you. He managed to make me think I couldn't trust anyone. That everyone was against me."
Padme sniffled as the tears continued coming down. "I was willing to forget everything and leave everything behind for you. I loved you."
"Padme, I love you too." Anakin said growing irritated with his restraints and using the force to uncuff them. He stood up wiping away some of her tears.
"No, Anakin. I loved you. Loved. You ruined my life. I had to give up our children to protect them from being found. I just recently found them again. I had to live my life in hiding, and in fear and depression. I had nothing. I lost you. I lost Luke and Leia. I lost the Senate. I lost everything, because of you."
"Padme, I'm-I'm sorry I didn't know. I didn't mean too. I was only trying to save you. When I found out you and the children died and being told it was my doing, I lost it and lost myself. All I had was the power and Palpatine. I buried myself into a pit of despair and wanted nothing to do with Anakin Skywalker, until I saw you again and our children."
"Anakin, please, please just stop. I can't do this right now." Padme said as she grabbed onto the bed feeling dizzy from everything.
"Padme, please don't think I never stopped loving you." He said brushing his hand across the side of her face, trying to take away the sadness he caused her.
"Well this isn't what I expect to see."
They both and looked over and saw Leia and Captain Solo, standing in the doorway. He saw the look at Leia's face and knew he was right about her feelings towards him. He looked down and saw he was standing and uncuffed and realized this probably looked bad.
"Oh Leia. You are back and safe." Padme said wiping away her tears and running to her only to be stopped from the death glare Leia was giving her.
"I knew you were working with him and now you somehow have convinced Luke, that he is no longer Vader." Leia said glaring over at Anakin.
"Leia, I swear. I haven't. Please come back to my room and I can tell you everything." Padme said.
"You lied to me and I trusted you. How do I know you won't tell me more lies? You even lied about you name clearly." Leia said with such anger.
"Leia." Padme said before being cut off.
"I won't have you arrested, but I want nothing to do with you anymore." Leia said.
"Leia, please if you could just listen to what your mother has to say I'm sure you could understand." Anakin said trying to help the situation, but the look he got from all three clearly told him he made a mistake.
"Mo-mother?" Leia looked over at Padme. "Han, you need to deal with the rest of this. I-I need a minute away."
"Leia, let me explain." Padme said trying to stop her and growing hysterical only to be stopped by Han.
"I think you should give her a minute, that was clearly a lot to process." Han told her.
Anakin looked at Padme realizing he managed to find another way to ruin her life. He watched as she started to sway, before loosing her footing. He stepped forward trying to catch up, but Han got there first.
"I'm going to take her back to her room. You guys." Han said indicating to the guards. "Re-cuff the prisoner and see if Luke knows of a better way to keep him locked up. Actually send him to the holding cells. He clearly is in much better health than they expect." Han said glaring at him, before stepping out holding Padme.
"As you wish, General Solo." The guard said as they both stepped closer to him clearly frighten as to what he was going to do to them.
Little did they know, he didn't care anymore. He ruined everything and no longer cared what they did to him, for he deserved everything.
