A/N: *Insert 20th disclaimer here*
This story has officially passed 10,000 views! I remember when this was just a little story with a few dozen views, and I cannot thank you all enough for making this so big.
Fourteen: Evidently, Tamaraneans are descendants of a feline race, so it's not that improbable.
Eris: The dog is from the show, but the "night-terror" and "hellfly" (as the dragonfly will now be referred to as) are simply from my imagination. If there are similar animals in the comics, I had no prior knowledge. As for the eyebeams, the chrysalis eater mentioned that some Tamaraneans go through different transformations, but for the sake of argument let's say Ironhand went through a transformation like Starfire's.
I'm still uncertain if I'll use mythical creatures. That would probably require cross morphs to achieve the lion and goat heads of a chimera, or multiple lizards and the hellfly for a dragon, which I may not use. I definitely won't use media/entertainment animals like you mentioned. But those are good ideas, and I may use those in another fanfic. (With your permission of course).
Derekctomlinson: I don't know what you mean by "metal changeling".
Eli: Exactly. Despite the slightly varying opinions on the limits and consistencies of BB's powers, he is still by far the most versatile of the 5. And I might try to use Red-X, but we'll see.
Mr. Ursine: Maybe. Guess you'll have to read and find out.
frog31791: He definitely is. And he'll get what's coming too him.
Well, let's get this party started! (That's a saying, I'm not actually throwing parties).
Chapter 20:
Something inside of Beast Boy was starting to stir. The last time he had fought Adonis had ended terribly. He had almost been thrown off the team and threatened by Robin to be placed in jail. His predatory instincts were telling him to take Adonis on by himself, and he was seriously considering it. But his rational thoughts were urging him to keep calm and allow his team to help. He sighed and stopped the car. "What's up B?" the cybernetic teen asked. "I need you to distract the Hive and get them away from Adonis." he instructed. "This isn't...the Beast, is it?" Raven questioned nervously. "No. I have that locked away. But I just need to take him alone." the green teen explained. "We got you covered buddy." Cyborg offered before turning to the empath. "Can you teleport us outside?" he requested. Raven nodded and teleported the four passengers into an alley outside.
"What's the plan Robin?" Jinx asked once Starfire landed in the alley. He thought it over and developed a strategy. "Jinx, did you tell them where you went?" he asked the sorceress. "No. I didn't even tell them I was leaving." she responded. "Ok, you're our secret weapon. Eventually we'll threaten to call Beast Boy. If they don't surrender at that, you'll come out of the alley and do your thing." Robin finished. "Any objections?" he offered. No one had anything to say, so he led three of his teammates out of the alley. "Give it up guys. This can't end any differently than last time." Robin declared, earning the stares of the five villains. "Take 'em out Adonis!" Gizmo ordered. "Heh. With pleasure." the suited man replied. He had only taken three steps when an engine revved and grabbed everyone's attention.
Beast Boy had pulled the Apex into the open and aimed the cannons at his foe. "That there's a nice car." the main Billy stated. "I'd like to see what makes THAT tick." Gizmo added. His mouth was already watering at the idea of taking the car apart and rebuilding it. The engine revved again and the tires started spinning, leaving black burn marks on the road before it launched straight towards Adonis. "Someone wants to find out the hard way who has the better machine." Adonis taunted, then charged towards the approaching car. His advance was halted when a volley of photon blasts tore small chunks from his suit. The Apex blasted past and screeched to a halt. A green teen stepped out and glared at the man in the robotic suit. "Where'd you get the cool toy?" Adonis questioned. "I know you want to fight me, so let's go." the green teen stated. "You really think you can beat me? You may have taken away my Beast, but I'm still stronger than you." he confidently stated. "Let's test that theory." Beast Boy coldly said, then disappeared with a sonic boom.
The moment the Apex made its first pass, the other battle started. The team minus Jinx took full advantage of the distraction and pounced on the Hive. They automatically headed towards their typical enemies and brawled with vigor and determination. The battle had gone on for six minutes when Adonis was literally thrown through the fray and was followed by what appeared to be a green tiger with spikes that caused the Hive members to further fear their green foe. "Hey cutie-pie, how about a hand?" the red suited man asked the floating empath. "Not in a million lifetimes." she replied with an annoyed tone. The intervention was enough for the Hive to get a running start. "Scatter!" Gizmo commanded before flying off on his jetpack. "Stop them!" Robin ordered, and the team followed. Jinx emerged unseen from the alley and assisted in the chase. Unfortunately for Raven, Adonis had seen her turn around and seized the opportunity. His hand shot out, and found its target.
"Let...me...go!" the goth girl tried to order as the giant hand closed around her. Her arms were pinned to her sides and if she teleported she would just take Adonis with her. "Why would I do that?" the villain almost sensually asked. "Because if you don't I'll break every bone in your body. Twice." the green teen threatened as he walked closer. "Do you think you can do that without hurting her?" Adonis mocked as he pulled the girl closer to his face. "Oh, I think her 'sharp' thinking will help her out of this." the green teen replied. The emphasis on the word "sharp" was noticed by the villain's captive, and caught on to his plan. She focused her powers and created a black construct in the shape of a sword right in front of Adonis' throat. "Here's how things are going to go." Raven said. "You will put me down right now, and maybe I'll try to hold him back." she ordered as she inched the magic sword closer to Adonis' throat. All of the confidence he had earlier faded and he gently placed Raven on the ground.
"What if you just knock him around a little?" the empath offered. "That'll do." her teammate coldly replied as he slowly advanced on his enemy. The suited man's face started sweating, but he still figured he had a chance. Then Beast Boy blew a plume of fire in his direction, and he knew he was screwed.
The four Hive members had split up, and the team had to separate to chase them down. Robin went after Mammoth, Starfire flew after Gizmo, Cyborg followed Billy, and Jinx chased See-more. The heroine threw a few hexes and managed to trip up her former co-villain, sending him falling giant eye first into the asphalt. "Ugghh." See-more groaned before he realized who had caught him. "Jinx? Where did you come from? And how did you get rid of the Titans?" the cyclops asked. "I didn't get rid of them. I joined them." she responded as she raised her glowing left hand, indicating another hex was ready to be used. "But...why? We were your friends." See-more questioned. "Some friends. The moment something went wrong you all would immediately blame me, even when it wasn't my fault." she explained. "Yeah, but you're the leader. You should be ready for these things." See-more retorted. "Really? Look at the Titans. Robin isn't always prepared for everything, but his friends don't place the blame solely on him." Jinx shot back.
Any further argument was cut off by Cyborg's arrival. "We got the others. Good job." the cybernetic teen said before picking up the villain. He carried See-more to a prisoner transport and filled out the same paperwork they always had to fill out. The four Titans recollected and ran back to assist in the fight against Adonis only to find him being loaded into another transport. His left cheek was swelled and sported a large bruise whereas the rest of his body had scrapes and small cuts that tore through his red uniform. His suit, once tall and mighty, was nothing more than scrap metal that looked like it had been put through a garbage disposal. Beast Boy, on the other hand, wasn't doing as well. His legs, arms, and chest had cuts that were slightly bleeding, and Raven was currently healing the back of his head.
"What happened?" Robin asked once he approached the two. "I kicked his ass up the street and back. Raven actually had to heal him first." the green teen replied. "You didn't hurt him too bad, did you?" Cyborg questioned. "No. We just wanted to make sure none of his more serious wounds got infected." he answered. Raven moved to heal her green teammate's arms and legs. "Turns out his suit isn't very heat resistant. I probably could have cooked him alive inside if I wanted." the changeling said. "You're all good." the half demon stated once she finished healing his last injuries. "Thanks. And good job out there." he offered before walking to the car. Four teammates followed and were treated to a calm car ride back to the tower.
The first thing the green teen did was head up to his room. After scouring around he found a clean uniform that he changed into. He figured he wouldn't need the ripped one, but decided to keep it just in case. Once he was fully dressed he decided to go outside and catch some rays. But first, he could use something to eat. Upon his arrival he was greeted with a typical sight. Robin and Cyborg were gaming, Jinx and Starfire were watching, and Raven was reading. The changeling opened the fridge and pulled out a few apples. "If you need me I'll be on the roof." he declared before heading up. When he reached his destination he sat on the edge and let his feet dangle. Most people would probably call him crazy, but his fear of heights had been diminished long ago. After all, why would he be afraid when he could turn into something that could fly, or morph into something so small that his terminal velocity becomes too small to worry about? The moment he incorporated the Tamaran ability to absorb solar radiation he felt another rush of energy. He figured he should try to get maximum exposure, so he rolled up his arm and leg sleeves to reveal many of the scars he had been hiding longer than he liked to admit. For fifteen minutes he just sat there; absorbing radiation and occasionally biting an apple.
The door to the roof opened, and he quickly pulled down the sleeves and looked to see who needed him. The resident alien emerged and made her way towards him. "Hey Star. What's up?" the changeling asked. "Friend Beast Boy, how many languages do you know?" the orange skinned girl questioned. "Just English and Tamaranean." he replied. He should have seen this coming. "Are you sure you do not know another? Because when we kissed I felt a language transfer into my knowledge.". The teen sighed. There was no avoiding this, and he couldn't deny it. "You learned Swahili. I used to speak it just as much as English." Beast Boy explained. "What do you mean?" the alien curiously asked. "I wasn't raised here. I spent a fair chunk of my childhood in Africa." he replied. "That is most interesting. But, why did you not tell us?" she asked.
Semi-Flashbacks
A high pitched squeal echoed throughout the jungle. The source was a little boy who was being attacked by a green monkey. He could feel the attacker's teeth ripping his flesh, and did everything he could to try to bat it away. He could already feel the blood loss affecting him, and desperately cried out for his parents.
The child screamed in agony as his body turned green. The pain was unbearable. It was like an entire wildfire was trapped inside his little body. No matter how much he thrashed and struggled, he couldn't escape the torturous sensations.
"Wh-what happened to m-me?" the child begged. His reflection in the mirror was green, but that was impossible. Wasn't it? He frantically scratched his arm and his new claws started cutting his skin. But no matter how much he scratched, no matter how much blood coated his skin, it was still green.
"Garfield, you need to fly away." a mother's urgent voice said over roaring water. "But...but I don't want to leave you." a green child pleaded. "You'll be fine. Just remember that we will always love you." a father offered with teary eyes. He hugged the two who had always been there for him and flew away as a bird. It took everything he had not too look back. He knew if he did, he would just return to them. The last thing he heard were two overlapping screams of terror that slowly faded until the only sound was the rushing water.
"I don't like to talk about it." he replied. Starfire noticed the sudden somber attitude that came from her teammate, but also understood that pushing him to talk about it was not a wise choice. "How is the absorbing of radiation going?" she asked in an attempt to change the subject. Beast Boy seemed to relax, and appreciated her intentions. "It's still weird to feel. But it's going fine." he replied. "Marvelous. I shall leave you to it." the alien girl offered before heading to return inside. "Hey Star, can you keep that a secret? Just between us?" the changeling requested. "Of course." she replied. Beast Boy nodded in thanks and reclined back on the roof.
"Hey Star, where'd you go?" Jinx asked the returning alien. "I checked on friend Beast Boy. He is adjusting to absorbing the solar rays, but he said he is doing fine." she replied as she sat down next to Robin. Although she didn't show it, Raven just couldn't shake the feeling that there was something Starfire was leaving out. She would have to investigate later. But for now she would let it go. At least, that was the plan until bright green flashes flew past the outside window. There were several seconds between the starbolts, but each shot was much larger than a typical starbolt. "I'll see what he's doing." Raven stated before phasing through the roof.
On top of the tower, Beast Boy had started throwing starbolts, but his hands were cupped together with his palms facing each other, causing the starbolts to merge. After letting it grow for a few seconds, he pushed his hands forward and downward, shooting the starbolt into the water below with his palms facing outward. "What are you doing?" Raven questioned. "Uhh. I was sorta playing around and found out I can recreate a classic video game move." he replied while scratching the back of his neck. "Of course you would do that." the empath replied. Beast Boy just shrugged and repeated the process, but muttered "Hadouken." right before launching the attack. Raven just watched him do it over and over again until he drained his collected radiation again.
"What did you and Starfire talk about?" Raven asked while trying to keep her voice calm. "Just absorbing radiation and stuff." the changeling replied, trying just as hard not to give anything away. If he wanted to get overly technical, he had actually told the truth, so he didn't bother to shield her from his emotions. Raven picked up on it, and decided there was nothing to worry about. "Ok. Have fun absorbing or whatever you're going to do." she offered before phasing back into the commons room. "What's he doing?" Cyborg asked the empath once she sat down. "Some 'hadouken' thing. Said it was a video game move." Raven replied before continuing her book. Cyborg's giggles were barely audible over her concentration on the chapter.
"Come on, you should have pushed him!" Affection whined in Raven's head. She sighed at the mental disturbance and teleported to her room. "Why should I have done that?" Raven questioned the emotion. "He said 'and stuff' and you never thought to ask what he meant? What if they're going to go on a date?" the emoticlone frantically stated. This was going to require a trip to Nevermore. Raven lifted the mirror and looked into it, letting it take her inside of her mind again.
The arrival went as usual. Luckily, there were no new changes, so this probably wasn't something big. It did not take long to find the emotion that was acting up. In fact, she found Raven. "Why would the two of them go on a date? Starfire likes Robin, and I'm fairly certain Beast Boy likes us." the real Raven stated. "Yes, but you saw that kiss. She kissed him!" the lavender cloaked emotion shrieked. "Yes, but she was only teaching him Tamaranean. It was the only way for Beast Boy to effectively communicate with Openhand and Ironhand." Raven stated. "Maybe, but they're so similar. He's bubbly and energetic like she is. Even if he's been toning it down a bit recently". "And Robin and I both prefer quiet to loud noise, but I'm not going on any dates with him." the real Raven retorted. "But...but...". Despite not having an answer, it was clear Affection was still panicking. Raven started thinking, and a plan came to mind. "What if I let you talk to him. Would that ease your worries?" the empath offered her doppelganger. "Maybe. But what if he-" "No. Save your questions for him. I'll see what I can do. Ok?" Raven asked. Affection reluctantly nodded, and Raven returned to the real world.
And here she had thought she wouldn't have to ask Beast Boy to enter her mind again. "Azar give me strength." the half demon mumbled before returning to the commons room.
A/N: I'm sorry the BB vs. Adonis fight wasn't a highlight, but we've seen a lot of BB in fights, and I figured some other characters could use a little time. Hopefully, BB and Raven vs. Adonis made up for it.
I really don't know if the Hadouken is possible with Star's powers, (Don't own Street Fighter FYI) but I'll see if I can't come up with a logical explanation. If you have any questions or comments, leave them in a review, and I hope you enjoyed the chapter.
Later dudes!
