Dabi glanced over at the woman sleeping peacefully next to him.

He couldn't even count how many times he'd taken her the previous night. All he knew was that he was sore and almost completely out of condoms. He still had one left. He'd have to make good use of it.

The man scratched at the back of his neck.

He'd have to stockpile them at this rate. Kagome's surprisingly high sex drive was something he hadn't anticipated on but he'd take full advantage of it all the same.

He pressed his chest against her back as he coiled his arms about her waist.

"You sure you don't want to stay in bed today?" Dabi emphasized his question with a sharp nip to the lobe of her ear.

Kagome stirred, "I'm sure. I took off too much time this year. Besides I want to go."

His grip tightened at the thought.

He didn't like the idea of her going back to that damn school. The heroes had already proven themselves ill prepared to protect her adequately. They still didn't know the full scale of the threats leveled on her life on a daily basis.

He'd seen it first hand and chased away more vermin than he cared to admit to. It was a miracle the woman had survived as long as she did before he moved in with her.

Dabi lowered his mouth to her ear, "Have you ever thought about becoming something else?"

Kagome fell silent.

It was a touchy subject for her and he knew it, but he needed to know all the same. He needed to see if maybe there could be a peaceful solution to their current dilemma.

If Kagome became a hero then eventually they would have to face each other in battle. That was a future he could not afford.

The young woman began to speak softly, "All the time." The tips of her fingers trailed along his forearm affectionately. "Every day I ask myself if this is what I want to become. It's always been an uphill battle and I knew that would happen even before I applied to U.A."

Dabi chose to listen as she explained. This was the first time she ever spoke of her decision so openly. He would not interrupt her now.

"Even now I wonder if I made the right choice," Kagome's tone became clouded with a sense of wistfulness that he couldn't place. "Then I decided that regardless of how things turn out, I'd finish the hero course as I'd originally planned. Even if things don't work out post graduation, I can still sell my shards to make a living. So I'm not totally screwed."

His lips thinned at that.

Sell her shards?

The notion was unsettling on its own. He didn't want to think about what that could mean for her later.

"So for now I'm going to finish what I started. I'm not stupid enough to close my eyes and ears though." Azure eyes turned to meet his firmly. "You made your decision a long time ago. So I'm not going to try convincing you otherwise. Eventually you're going to find a greater cause to put yourself behind. When that happens, the only thing I want is for you to go all in."

Her lips quirked upwards into a soft smile, "More than anything, I don't ever want you to have any regrets."

Dabi rolled her beneath him. He interlaced their fingers once more as he used his knees to spread her thighs.

"Sometimes you really are too kind." The man scraped his teeth along the flesh of her neck. "Don't think I'll be letting go that easily after this." He hitched his leg up, forcing hers to cradle his hip sensually. "Just remember what you said later. What happens next will be because you encouraged it."

Kagome gave a soft laugh as he pierced her once more.

"I think I can handle that." Her hands shifted to his shoulders. Dabi began to move.

He sure hoped so. After all, he wasn't able to leave this place without her.

Not anymore.
