Chapter 31: Explanations
Nessie's POV
What I had said silenced everybody. At first I was in too much shock from seeing Kate and Tanya once again to think about much else. I'd known that for many years before they'd abruptly left Alaska six years ago. It was such a shock because they'd given no prior indication that they were planning on leaving. I remembered the odd interest they seemed to have in from the moment we met. Which happened less than a week after I'd been adopted. But they were a nice bunch and despite the age difference we'd been rather close. I had missed Garrett in particular. He taught my seventh grade U.S History class. He was probably the best teacher that I'd ever had.
"Renesmee what did you just say?" my mom was the first to speak. "How do you know them?" my mother's voice sounded hopeful. My mom's words made me realize something that I had not thought of before. If the Denali clan new the Cullens then they must have known that I was Bella's and Edward's daughter from the very beginning.
If possible Kate and Tanya had gone even paler. Another realization occurred to me. They were all vampires also. Just like my family. My entire family was looking between us waiting for someone to begin explaining what was going on. I finally opened my mouth to speak. "I knew them for several years before they left Alaska, rather abruptly I might add, six years ago,"
All heads looked in the direction of Kate and Tanya. In the background I could see Carmen, Eleazar, and Garrett gathering around. Wondering what was going on. I looked at my mother, my father, and Jacob. I could see something simmering beneath the surface. For now though they managed to keep themselves together.
"Come inside and we will explain everything," Tanya spoke.
The tension in the atmosphere was so thick that you could cut it with a knife. I didn't need uncle Jasper's gift to sense the brewing anger on top of the tension.
"Start explaining!" mom snapped. "How is it possible that you all and Nessie and know each other when my daughter has no memory of her past,"
"How long have you known where she was?" Dad asked. I knew it angered him to no ends that he couldn't just pick through their brains and find the answer in their heads.
Silence. There was nothing but dead silence now. They were all too afraid to answer. My stomach was in knots right now. "A week after I was adopted we ran into each other in town. I didn't understand all the interest they had in me at the time. But over the years we got pretty close. Garrett taught my U.S History class in seventh grade. Then they disappeared without saying a word," I never understood why they'd just left like that without even saying goodbye. It did hurt at the time.
"Can one of you please explain one exactly is going on here?!" mom yelled. Uh oh. She was begging to lose it.
"It's true," Tanya spoke. "A week after she was adopted we came across her in Alaska. It was only a few weeks after you told us that she disappeared,"
"and you never told us?!" mom roared.
"Why Tanya?!" Dad yelled. "Why would you keep something like this from us!"
"Son calm down," Carlisle said. "I'm sure they have a reasonable explanation for withholding this information from us," my grandfather was trying to remain calm but even he was struggling to do so.
Jacob was trembling. A sign that he was getting angrier by the second. My son whimpered and squirmed in my arms. Even he knew that something was wrong.
"When we first saw Nessie we knew that something was wrong. We could see that she had been altered. Turned completely human so to speak. We also knew that she had lost her memory," Kate explained.
"Son why didn't you tell us?!" dad yelled. For the first time since I'd known them my mother and father actually looked like vampires now. Scary ready to kill at a seconds notice kind of vampires.
"Because she was human now," Tanya added. "She was human now and she had no memory of the supernatural world. She was happy with her human family. We thought it would be best for her if she remained in the human world. We thought she'd be safer that way. It isn't safe for a human to be around vampires. If the danger is not from the Volturi it is from our very nature as vampires. Our plan was to stay close to her in case anything changed like if she started to remember or revert back to her half vampire self. We had to leave six years ago because other people started to suspect something about us. If not we would have continued to stay and watch over her,"
"So you knew where MY daughter has been the entire time! You knew and you chose to keep MY daughter's whereabouts a secret from me?!" mom's eyes were pitch black. She crouched down like a lion ready to attack. I'd never seen her so angry before.
"You kept our daughter a secret from us because you thought she would be safer with a human family?!" Dad's anger scared even me right now.
"We were keeping her safe. It was the best thing we could have done to protect-"
Several things happened simultaneously. Jacob exploded into an angry wolf and charged toward them with his teeth bared. Nothing but angry growling and snarling came from his mouth. Both mom and dad lost all sense of self control. Every bit of humanity was gone from them in that moment. All that was left was two angry vampires. Two murderously angry vampires who lunged straight for their throats.
