Chapter 25: Down the Corridor
Author's Note: I'm so sorry for the late update, but it's here at last! Before we begin, though, let me clear something up. It turns out that Vita-Wonk actually DOES have a hyphen. It's been corrected in Chapter 24, and Chapter 23 will come soon. I apologize greatly for the misinformation. Now, let me respond to your reviews!
BlackIce K1lls, thanks for pointing the reference out to me. I really appreciate it. On another note, I'm glad you liked the new Yuna exit. As for the lyrics, I put the lyrics through Google Translate, then individually searched each word through Google to see if the translation was accurate.
Softkitty55, thanks so much for the compliments! Yuna's song was my favorite one to write so far, especially considering how extravagant it was, so I'm glad that you enjoyed it.
Matt, that was indeed my intentions when it came to Yuna's demise. I had a blast writing her Oompa-Loompa song, and I had the fight beforehand to make Mrs. Sayuki's demise even more satisfying.
Guest #1, thanks for pointing that out. I fixed it.
Gage the Hedgehog, didn't we all? ;)
emeraldphan, Yuna's demise was actually created as a CatGGE reference for real, although I do believe you're referring to Grandma Georgina who became 358 years old after taking the Wonka-Vite, becoming a Minus, then getting sprayed with the liquid Vita-Wonk. I hope that you'll enjoy this chapter as well.
Guest #2, of course!
Guest #3, what an amazing suggestion! I'll definitely consider it.
marty munster, thanks so much! I'll for sure consider that suggestion for Charlie's Chocolatey Adventure.
cloggy, thanks for that quote for CCA! I'll consider that.
Jenna Adams, aw how sweet! I wonder how Chris would react if I were to go tell Chris that right now. ;)
Guest #3, that would be disastrous if that were to happen! Even if Tyler is a brat, the entire factory would have to be shut down and put into quarantine, which would be horrible for Wonka! Now, on with the story!
As Charlie and Mr. Wonka put their hands forward towards the hidden door, the group saw...that it was fake. The door was just a painting on the wall of the room, cleverly made to look like a real one. Daniel was less than impressed at this charade.
"I don't see the point," Daniel remarked.
"The point of what, my little mumbler?" Mr. Wonka smiled.
"The point of that fake door," Daniel said. "And everything else in this factory is pointless too, aside from those...aging vitamins. Do you know how many contributions to science you could have made if you would've become a scientist instead?"
"Candy doesn't have to have a point," Chris answered him. "That's why it's candy."
"Yeah," Mr. Wonka added, thinking back to what one of the other Golden Ticket winners, Mike Teavee, had said during the original tour. "That." Mr. Sparkman also looked uncomfortable at his son's quote. He was about to say something, but Daniel began to yell.
"It's stupid!" Daniel snapped, looking at Chris as the sound of thunder suddenly began to echo throughout the entire room. "Candy is a waste of time!"
"What was that?" Jenna asked.
"Oh, we recently added thunder sound effects in this room, as we're actually planning on adding a weather system to a couple rooms in the factory in order to make them more life-like," Charlie explained. "Daniel's talking must have set it off. That sure was dramatic, wouldn't you agree?"
"Now, let's get a move on, everyone!" Mr. Wonka smiled as he and Charlie ushered everyone towards Wonka Land.
"No, not the chariot!" Tyler begged. "Not the chariot!"
Mr. Wonka could only smile at him out of the corner of his eyes as they continued walking towards the inevitable.
After a second trip through Wonka Land, as well as another 650 mile per journey on the maglev, the group arrived at a station that looked nearly identical to the one where they had first boarded.
"In order to move on with the tour," Mr. Wonka explained, "that means a whole nother corridor to explore! Look sharp, everyone." He pointed with his cane to a door that they were approaching. This one had no label on it, and Charlie turned its vault-like handle, leading everyone inside.
As they looked around the corridor, the group noticed that it looked almost identical to Grandpa Joe Way, except the walls of this place were back to being black instead of pink. Many round doors were on both walls, and they each had glowing labels identifying the product made inside.
"This is another one of the factory's main corridors," Charlie explained. "Inside every room, something delicious is being created at this very second, even as we speak."
A few seconds later, the group passed one door that said, "CANDY-COATED PENCILS."
"Those are marvellous!" Mr. Wonka beamed. "Especially for school children. If they get bored, all they need to do is suck on one'a these to pass the time!"
"The coating comes in many flavors," Charlie explained, "such as chocolate of course, along with lemon, banana, orange, sour apple, and countless others."
The next door that they passed said, "EDIBLE MARSHMALLOW PILLOWS."
"Let's stop here," Charlie suggested, "but please, be quiet."
The group crowded around the window of the Edible Marshmallow Pillows room, and what they saw looked like a nursery. Rows upon rows of thick chocolate cribs could be seen, and inside each of them were baby Oompa-Loompas. While most were asleep, some were awake, being held by their mothers, and others could be seen being held by Oompa-Loompa nurses. Each of these cribs contained various toys and mobiles, as well as extravagant pillows coming in every color of the rainbow.
"These are great," Mr. Wonka smiled. "They taste good, and they're really darn soft! Now, let's continue on, shall we?"
"MARSHMALLOW MARSH" was what it said on the next door, and Charlie and Mr. Wonka stopped by this one as well. The door was opened, and the group walked inside.
Everyone saw an environment that resembled a large wetland. Pink sugar flamingos could be seen walking around, and alligators made out of caramel apples could be seen hiding underneath the surface of the water. Large fish made out of chocolate could be seen swimming around and jumping out of the water every couple of seconds, and birds made out of Mr. Wonka's Feathery Sweets were flying around and plucking them out of the water. Occasionally, one of the flamingos would walk by a large weeping willow tree, and large white marshmallows could be seen growing on them. Oompa-Loompas could be seen walking around in safety suits, harvesting the marshmallows while trying to keep the flamingos at bay.
"This is where we make our world-famous marshmallows," Charlie explained. "Pretty clever, eh? You can't have marshmallows without a marsh, after all."
A couple reactive groans were heard throughout the group, and Daniel turned towards Charlie and Mr. Wonka.
"This is a wetland," Daniel remarked, "not a marsh. There's a difference. But you're probably just gonna say I'm mumbling, so I don't even know why I pointed that out." Charlie and Mr. Wonka only smiled at him in response.
A few minutes later, the door was closed, and the Ticket winners continued walking down the corridor. The next door that they saw said, "SQUARE CANDIES THAT LOOK ROUND."
"This room is home to one of our most unique products," Mr. Wonka said. "See for yourself, everyone."
The remaining children, as well as their parents, peered into the Square Candies that Look Round room. There was a large window in it, and everyone could see that a large table took up most of the room. To the left and right of this table, by the other end of it, there were two step stools, and a couple of Oompa-Loompas were standing on them. There was another table above the larger one, but it was slightly smaller. The Oompa-Loompas were taking the candies, which came in red, purple, yellow, and dark blue, among others, and sorting them in lines on the smaller table. Each of these candies were shaped like cubes, and they had tiny faces on them.
"I don't get it," Mindy said, shrugging her shoulders. "They don't look round to me."
"They look square," Daniel added.
"I never said they weren't square," Mr. Wonka said. "They only look round."
"Maybe when you look at them long enough," Jenna suggested, "they puff up and turn into spheres or something."
"They don't become round," Charlie said. "As Mr. Wonka said, they only look round."
"But they're most certainly not looking round," Mrs. Bell said, then she turned to her daughter. "Mr. Wonka's lying to you. Don't worry about it, sweetie."
Everyone continued arguing with the two chocolatiers until an idea popped into Chris' mind. Snapping his fingers, he gasped and shouted, "Wait!"
Immediately after he said this, everyone stopped arguing and turned towards him.
"I think I know what all of this means," Chris remarked. "I think it has something to do with their eyes!"
Charlie smiled at him, then took out a small keyring, then inserted one of the keys in the keyhole. He opened it up, and immediately, the Oompa-Loompas in the room looked towards the group as all of the eyes on the candies looked at the group.
"I knew it!" Chris said triumphantly, pumping a fist into the air. "Those candies are actually looking round!"
"Wonderful, Chris!" Charlie exclaimed happily as the two of them high-fived. "You figured out that riddle faster than anyone else I've known!"
"Shame on me," Jenna shook her head, smiling to herself as they resumed their walk. "How could I have not known that? Oh well."
A few seconds later, the group approached another door that said, "FIZZY LIFTING DRINKS."
"I would think we chose a good corridor to travel down," Mr. Wonka said, turning to his heir. "Lots'a good rooms in here. How about going inside this one?"
"Fine with me," Charlie said, and the door to the Fizzy Lifting Drinks room was opened. Mouths hung open as the remaining five winners and their parents walked inside.
In the center of the room, there was a blue soda bottle-like machine, and large red cylinders on stands were connected to it via a bunch of colorful pipes. There were also brown platforms floating around in the room, and Oompa-Loompas were standing on them as clear bubbles were flying and popping all over the room. Other Oompa-Loompas could be seen laughing and flying around the room, as if by magic.
"This is where we make our Fizzy Lifting Drinks," Mr. Wonka explained. "Just take one sip of this sweet succulent drink, and you'll float high up in the air like a balloon!"
"Like those Oompa-Loompas up there?" Jenna asked, pointing up by the ceiling.
"Precisely!" Mr. Wonka smiled, letting out a high-pitched, childlike laugh.
"But then how would you get down, Mr. Wonka?" Mr. Adams asked.
"Why, ya belch of course!" Mr. Wonka answered. "Ya do the bestest belch you can possibly belch, and the gas will go out and down you'll drop, in the flick of a fly's wing, out and down, down and out... Haha, isn't that just magnificent?"
"That sounds like something prank-worthy," Tyler smirked, looking at his mother then back at Mr. Wonka. "Could we possibly...have some of your Fizzy Lifting Drinks, by any chance?" He tried to smile as innocently as possible while staring straight into the chocolatier's eyes.
"Yessiree!" Mr. Wonka smiled, and Tyler's face lit up in a large grin. "Well...that's what I would say, but we're on a time crunch, and gettin' crunched by time isn't the kindest thing to happen to someone at any given time, ya get what I'm sayin'?" Tyler's grin quickly turned into a frown as they exited the Fizzy Lifting Drinks room.
"These rooms are amazing, Jenna!" Chris smiled, walking back by his best friend, and they held hands once again. "Which one is your favorite?"
"I don't have a favorite part yet," Jenna answered, "but I'm sure it'll be the music room, or whatever it's called. Who knows, we might end up winning the special prize together, you and me, if Mr. Wonka and Charlie like us well enough. Wouldn't that be fantastic?"
Chris nodded in agreement just as Mr. Wonka and Charlie stopped in front of yet another door in the corridor, which was labelled, "WONKA'S COW RANCH."
"A ranch?" Chris asked. "What's in there, Mr. Wonka?"
"My my, we've certainly hit a jackpot now, haven't we?" Willy chuckled. "Let's go inside this room, then we have one more before I'll let you kids choose some of your own."
"Mr. Wonka," Kitsune piped up, and Mr. Wonka turned his head and looked towards her, "we wouldn't be just so happening to get close to the central hub for your pranking candies now, would we?"
"As a matter of fact we are!" Mr. Wonka answered, and her face lit up in response. "But unfortunately for you, my puckish pranksters, it still won't be for a while now. Just be patient, and your whimsical wishes will eventually be fulfilled!" He then let out another one of his signature childlike giggles as Kitsune frowned at him, then Charlie opened up the door to the Cow Ranch.
The Cow Ranch resembled an environment from back in the Wild West. In the center of the room, there was a wooden fence curled into a circle, and cows with black, brown, and pink spots could be seen enclosed inside it. Some of Mr. Wonka's swudge was growing scarcely inside the room, and the cows were eating it as Oompa-Loompas wearing ten-gallon hats walked around with cowboy boots and brown jackets. One of the Oompa-Loompas opened up a portion of the enclosure and two black cows, one brown cow, and one pink cow stepped out of it and began following the worker.
"Where are they going?" Jenna asked.
"Well let's go find out, shall we?" Charlie smiled, guiding the group towards another area of the Cow Ranch.
The group saw a building that resembled a stable. There were four metal guide rails in front of it leading to separate segments of this building, and each of them were split up, with one of each of them going towards each rail. Constant mooing could be heard, and other cows could be heard munching on swudge and swishing their tails.
Mr. Wonka and Charlie guided the group through each section of the Cow Ranch's stable. In one section, multiple Oompa-Loompas were seen whipping a cow with red whips that smelled like licorice.
"Whipped cream," Chris smiled, turning to the two chocolatiers.
"That's right, Chris!" Mr. Wonka smiled. "Someone finally gets it!"
"That doesn't make sense," Daniel scoffed.
"Well for your information, little boy," Mr. Wonka responded. "Whipped cream isn't whipped cream at all unless it's been whipped with whips! Everybody knows that." Daniel chose not to argue with Mr. Wonka's statement, and he frowned at his father who was, on the contrary, smiling and having the time of his life.
"Are the cows hurt?" Jenna asked, concerned.
"Not one bit," Charlie responded. "The whips are made of licorice, so the cows don't feel a thing. They sure get the job done, though."
In the next section, the group saw one of the brown cows eating swudge. An Oompa-Loompa was on his knees pulling down on the udders of the cow, and chocolate milk could be seen coming out of them.
"Now that's an innovative way to produce chocolate milk," Mr. Sparkman said in amazement. "I don't see how this one is pointless now, eh Daniel?"
Daniel scoffed. "You got me this time," he frowned, "but I didn't even want to come here in the first place. My video games are much more exciting than anything this factory has to offer. I don't even get why you're so defensive of Wonka, either. You told me once that you hate chocolate."
Mr. Sparkman's face turned a slight shade of red.
"I never said such a thing," he responded. "Now, let's not hold up Mr. Wonka and Charlie any longer, son."
"Fine," Daniel said as the group continued walking.
"We produce our chocolate milk-related products in this very room as you can probably tell by now," Mr. Wonka responded. "Due to popular demand, we also do white and strawberry milk as well. We're also planning on doing vanilla milk, but we'll need vanilla cows first, am I right? Hahaha!"
As soon as Mr. Wonka said this, he stopped in front of another section of the stable. In this one, a pink cow was standing on a fully automated milking station. The station was vibrating as the cow was situated on it, and the milk that flowed through the machine's clear plastic tubes was very frothy as a result of the shaking.
"They're making milkshakes!" Jenna exclaimed in delight. "My favorite kind, too!"
"That doesn't make any sense, either," Daniel said, unimpressed. Mr. Wonka turned to him with a frown on his face.
"My, you're one of the hard-headed types, aren't ya mumbler?" he said as he looked at Daniel. "Just like how whipped cream isn't whipped cream unless it's been whipped with whips, ya can't have a milkshake unless the cow has been shaken. Everybody knows that."
"Everyone except me, it seems," Daniel murmured to himself as he gripped Mindy's hand.
"Now, let's move on to the next room!" Charlie smiled as he and Mr. Wonka led everyone to the exit of the Cow Ranch, and the door was closed once everyone made it back out into the corridor. "We have one more room to show you, then as Mr. Wonka said, we'll let you kids choose some of your own."
The group continued walking, and a few seconds later, they came across another one of the wide doors that covered the entirety of the corridor, just like the Rainbow Drops room. The label on it said, "LICORICE RAINFOREST."
Author's Note: Wow, what chapter! So many rooms visited in such a short period of time! As usual, it's question answering time, so let me do that now to close this off.
The Candy-Coated Pencils appeared in Where All the Bad Nuts Go, but unlike the book, they were erroneously called "Chocolate-Coated Pencils" instead. The depiction of the Marshmallow Marsh was of the Edible Marshmallow Pillows room in Where All the Bad Nuts Go as well. Since the marshmallows growing on the willows were stated to be multiple sizes, I decided to give the Edible Marshmallow Pillows a different room depiction and make the Marshmallow Marsh the hub for marshmallows instead.
The Square Candies that Look Round and Fizzy Lifting Drinks were borrowed from the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory video game. In Where All the Bad Nuts Go, the Fizzy Lifting Drinks room was just described as featuring a "machine", so pretty vague, so I decided to use the room depiction. These two weren't featured in the movie, so I thought they'd work either way.
Also, the Licorice Rainforest belongs to Softkitty55. She gave me that idea while I was writing a list of rooms down, so I really appreciate it. If any of you have any room suggestions, please don't hesitate to tell me. Special thanks also goes to Turrislucidus for helping me edit the Fizzy Lifting Drinks segment of the chapter.
Overall, how was this chapter? I know this one in the original was the one most people were critical about, being XXCandyLoverXX in particular, due to the general descriptions and quotes of the chapter being borrowed directly from Where All the Bad Nuts Go with no, if any, changes made to them while being copied. I do hope that my version was an improvement over it, and that you all enjoyed it. Stay tuned for the next chapter, everyone!
Until then,
Gabe S. :)
