Chapter Twenty-Six: Baby Shopping Part One: the Basics...
Maya paused briefly, before giving a nervous laugh. "About that... Kella gave it to me."
"Of course she did that." Rochelle sighed loudly. "That's why she's my BSFF."
Maya chuckled, before asking the question that was on both of their minds. "When did you want me to pick you up?"
"Does now sound good? I was planning on going to the Baby Supplies Store today."
"Will do. Be there in a sec..." Maya grinned as she pulled out of the Mason's driveway.
"Ooh! Look! A rocking chair!" Rochelle, who had long black hair pulled back in a French braid and dark blue eyes, cried out as she lifted a finger up to point at the wooden rocking chair with a flower print cushion tied onto its seat. "Mom used to rock me in one just like that when I was little...up until her cancer took her away from us. What about you? Did your mother rock you to sleep at night?"
Maya faltered, turning her attention away from the changing table that she had been examining. "My...mother died giving birth to me. I never knew her."
Silence fell between the two of them as they awkwardly stood in the aisle. After awhile, Rochelle cleared her throat. "I'm...sorry to hear that. Daddy speaks of Mom a bit, though he mainly does it so that we don't forget about her and her love for us. I presume it is the same with your father?"
Maya turned away as she felt her cheeks flush with embarrassment. "Father...never bothered with me. He was a very busy man and never had time for me beyond small conversations once a month...if I was lucky. Oftentimes they turned into arguments. I often fled the scene in tears." Why couldn't she have had the close, loving relationship with her father that Mason had with his girls? It made for a rather depressing thought.
Rochelle placed a hand on her shoulder, a tiny smile dancing on her lips. "I'm sorry... I guess not everyone gets the perfect family." Silence fell between once again. "Do you want to look at car seats next? We're gonna need those before the high chairs anyways."
"Um...yeah sure." Maya shifted slightly, glancing over at the rocking chair.
Maya ran her spoon around the edge of the bowl of strawberry and caramel froyo, her brow furrowed in thought. Rochelle had needed to stop to eat, and since the popular froyo shop was across the mall from the Baby Supplies Store, as well as the fact that it wasn't time for the next meal quite yet.
"Maya? Penny for your thoughts?" Rochelle raised an eyebrow upwards, already scrapping at the bottom of her bowl.
Maya shook her head, before sitting her spoon down. "Just thinking... preparing for babies is so much different here than where I'm from..."
"Oh." Rochelle almost appeared to melt into her seat.
Maya reached a hand across the table to squeeze her, a grin flashing across her features. "That's a good thing. Where I'm from, you had to make and retain all of your supplies. Literally. It isn't uncommon for babies to wear the exact same outfit as their grandmothers."
"Okay...that picture you just painted, is horrifying. Fashion does change from time to time. Besides that," Rochelle rolled her eyes as she lifted her spoon back up to her lips. "What happens when you have two babies close in age together..and one of them is a boy?"
"Until they start walking...boys were night shirts all the time. And typically those night shirts actually are baby dresses. Not that we tell them that..." Maya smirked as she recalled that little detail. "I'm actually thinking more about the rocking chair. Maybe we should get matching ones? Just for the fun of it of course."
Rochelle thought about that for a minute, before nodding in agreement. "Where are you setting up your nursery? Mine is in the bedroom next to ours."
Maya paused, thinking things over carefully as she pulled the schematics of her own house up in her mind. "We only have the two rooms... so I guess we'll just set up the nursery in the second one."
Rochelle slowly nodded in agreement, before changing the topic to favorite recipes she's found since she became pregnant.
"How was shopping today?" Ray asked as he washed the plates that they had used for dinner. Maya hummed an okay, even as she absentmindedly handed him her chopsticks. Ray shook his head, before leaning against the sink, one brow raised. "Maya? Is something bothering you?"
Maya glanced up at him, before quickly dumping a cup into the dishwater. "Nothing...just...we have never looked into the second bedroom and that is where our baby will be sleeping most likely..."
"Okay then let's postpone dishes long enough to look at the room and see what we need to get done in there before our little bundle of joy arrives."
Maya started, but before she could protest the importance of doing dishes, Ray had grabbed her by the hand and was heading up the stairs to where the two bedrooms were located. A minute later, the two of them slipped into the unused bedroom. Ray reached a hand out, quickly flipping a light on. The light flooded the room, revealing dust everywhere and peeling paint. The wood floors were missing chunks out of them, and the curtain rod had broken free, crashed to the ground to reveal a rather filthy window.
"Maybe we should fix this up before we start hauling furniture up here..."
"Yeah...I think your right." Ray ran a hand through his hair, vaguely wondering how much this was all gonna cost him. Maybe he should start giving blacksmithing lessons to those that are interested... it would definitely help with the cost of everything that they need to get done. "I'll start work on this tonight while you rest." He could also cut costs if he could manage to due a bit of it by himself.
A/N: Done! Gah... my mind refused to help me figure out what should happen after they went shopping together. Then I got thinking, two pregnant women... they're gonna get hungry...maybe even have a sweet tooth that needs satisfied...which can lead to conversations about the difference between Ninjago and Agua attitudes towards preparing for new babies. Then it turned into Rochelle bringing up the fact that the nursery needs to have a room picked out before they can set it up. Which lead to the discovery that, due to them being newlyweds that never have guests stay the night, the only room that was available for the nursery needs serious work done on it. Hope slept with them in their own room, so need to use it till she was older and...I killed her off.

PiratePirata: Ah...thank you! Don't worry... if I ever use another language... I used google translate cause I only know English. I like the idea of people in my stories being bilingual but since I only know the one, I use Google Translate a lot...and now I'm rambling. Sorry. Uh...close on the past generation elemental master. Just not quite. Thank you for the compliment. Till next time!
