Chapter 27: Sonic and Tails' Day Off
Tails grabbed the map out of his backpack once again, and pointed Sonic in the direction of the shopping mall. They walked down the busy city streets, taking in all that there was to see. Tall skyscrapers rose into the sky everywhere and office buildings dominated the area. The shopping mall was at the very end of the street. It was a massive place. Shops on every floor, and plenty of variety. They entered the huge place, and were immediately shocked at how much stuff there was to do. "Well, this is where I leave you. Here's some money, and we'll go our own way. Meet me back here in one hour and thirty minutes, okay?" Sonic said. He gave Tails 500 Rings, and saved 500 for himself. Tails went into the technology store, and browsed the endless shelves and aisles of tech he could buy. "Wow, I could buy parts for my Chaos Emerald detector here!" There was a shelf full of random electrical parts. Tails' eyes sparkled as he grabbed a shopping cart, and started to fill it with gadgets. On the other hand, Sonic decided to go treat himself to some new clothes. "I could use some new shoes. I've had these old ones for 5 years! Let's see if this store has the ones I like." Sonic entered the store, and was greeted with a new shoe smell. "Ahh, I love that smell. Time to find me some new kicks!" He wandered around for a while, lost in the endless expanse that was a shoe store. MEANWHILE... Knuckles, flying the Tornado-2, was approaching Sonic's house. "Well now that I know the Master Emerald is okay, I can rest easy. Just gotta land this plane safely."
Knuckles guided the plane smoothly towards the huge runway. The Tornado-2 touched down and rolled to a stop. Knuckles hopped out of the pilot's seat, and left the plane on the runway. He entered the house to find Goku and Vegeta fast asleep on pull-out bed couches. "Hm. They sure do need their sleep. I guess I'll just go upstairs and go to sleep as well." Knuckles walked up the two flights of stairs to the second floor of Sonic's house, and into the guest bedroom. He flopped onto the bed, and fell asleep immediately. MEANWHILE... Tails was still browsing the technology store. He had found all the items he came for, but Tails got distracted with all the sciency gadgets surrounding him. "Oh, look at all this stuff! I want to buy it, but I have to make sure to not go over the amount of money Sonic gave me. I'll just head on over to the check out station." Tails packed his items in a shopping cart and walked over to the cashier. The line wasn't long, and soon enough, Tails was at the front of the line. He placed his stuff on the conveyor belt. "Hi, Tails. How are you today?" the cashier asked. It was Amy! "Hi, Amy! I didn't know you worked here! It's nice to see you!" Amy scanned his items and placed them in a bag. "That'll be 300 Rings, please. Because I'm your friend, though, I'll let you pay later. I know you're good for it." Amy said. Tails smiled and ran out of the store. MEANWHILE…. Sonic had found several pairs of shoes that he liked. "Oh wow. I like all of these, but I can't buy them all. Which one looks best? Hmm…" FIVE MINUTES LATER... Sonic had finally decided which pair of shoes he wanted. "Oh, I've treated myself today! Now, Tails and I gotta go back home." Sonic bought his new shoes, and saw Tails wandering around outside the store. Sonic walked out of the store and waved his hand in the air. Tails saw it and ran over. "Sonic! Look what I found! So many parts for my Chaos Emerald locator!"
Tails opened his bag and showed Sonic all the technology he brought. "I also have 20 Rings worth of change. Here, take it." Tails held out a box of Rings, sparkling in the daylight. Sonic laughed a little bit. "Don't worry about it buddy. Keep it! From me to you." Tails smiled and laughed. "Thanks, Sonic! Now let's go home! Knuckles is most likely back from checking on the Master Emerald, and the Saiyans should be almost ready to go back to their Universe!" Sonic nodded. "Hey, you wanna run back over to the airport? Stretch our legs a little bit?" Sonic smiled smugly. He dashed away, just a blue and red streak. Tails followed suit, leaving the South City Mall behind. The duo tore through the streets, following Tails' map, albeit difficult to see, and came near to the airport. Sonic was looking around, trying to find the entrance. "There it is! The doors are open!" Tails pointed to a spot in the distance, and Sonic turned toward it. They zoomed through the doors, right through the airport, and outside to the runway. They skidded to a stop next to the Tornado. "Whew, what a rush, huh? That was sweet!" Sonic put his and Tails' bags in the back of the Tornado, and he jumped onto the top wing of the plane. Tails jumped into the pilot's seat, and started the plane. He opened a compartment in the Tornado, took out two bottles of water, and drank some from the first. "Hey, Sonic. Want some water?" Tails asked. Sonic took the water bottle, uncapped it, and took a long gulp. Sonic put the bottle down and readied himself for takeoff. Let's go! Home, here we come!" The Tornado lifted off the ground, and left the bustling South City behind. The plane roared through the sky, its rocket engine propelling it forward at great speeds. The ocean sparkled in the late afternoon light, and Angel Island was visible far in the distance. "Ah, what a great time that was, right? I bought myself some new shoes, and you got some tech to help us find Chaos Emeralds. Now we can go home, hang out, play some games, and have a good time!" Tails' eyes sparkled. "I'd love to do that!" The Tornado kept going on it's merry way, passing by West Side Island on the way. MEANWHILE, BACK AT SONIC'S HOUSE... Knuckles had woken up from his nap. It was almost dark, and Sonic and Tails were not home yet. "I guess they're having the time of their lives." Goku and Vegeta were up, making themselves some dinner.
"Hi, Knuckles! I thought you went back home! Good to see ya!" Goku said in his cheerful voice. "No, I just went to visit. Checked on the Master Emerald, inspected for any damage. Everything's good." Goku smiled and Vegeta shrugged. Knuckles went into the living room and turned on the TV. A cheesy sitcom was on, and Knuckles had no energy to change the channel, so he settled with it. BACK WITH SONIC AND TAILS... Sonic and Tails were in the middle of a thunderstorm out at sea. The clouds were thick and lightning flashed from out of the sky. "Sonic! This storm's getting too strong! I don't know if the plane can handle it!" Tails yelled. The rain pounded the heroes and their plane. Sonic could barely hear. "So put it into hyper gear! That way we can press through the storm!" Tails got scared all of a sudden. "It's already in hyper gear! We're at our top speed in these winds!" Tails said. He piloted the plane expertly, zooming through the air, all the while being continuously pounded by wind and heavy rain. The storm continued its relentless onslaught. By this time, Sonic and Tails had been in the storm for almost half an hour. Then came a loud roaring sound. It almost sounded familiar. The clouds were blown away, the sea became calm, and the storm left as unexpectedly as it came. The Tornado kept speeding along, nearing Sonic's house fast. Little did our heroes know, they were about to gain a new ally. The Tornado came into viewing distance of Sonic's house. "That was strange. We'll have to check it out later, but for now, we're almost home!" The Tornado flew inwards towards Sonic's island. Tails lowered the throttle of the plane, and turned towards the runway. The sand blew away as the plane landed, and finally stopped moving. Sonic came down from off the top wing and grabbed the shopping bags. "C'mon Tails. Let's go inside." Tails locked the plane down, and walked into Sonic's house. The table was set, and food was on it. Goku and Vegeta stood in the kitchen working tirelessly. "Wow, guys. Why are you doing all this?" Sonic asked. "Well, since it might be our last day on Mobius for a long time, we decided to have a small party. We cooked some food Bulma made, we got snacks, and we have movies to watch. Good times ahead!" Goku said happily. Sonic put the bags down, and Tails sat at the table. Knuckles walked into the room from upstairs. "Hey, Sonic and Tails. You guys are back late." Knuckles said. Sonic explained the situation that happened, much to the interest of the Saiyans, and sat at the dinner table. "Well, this is quite the spread you made. I'm very grateful. Let's dig in!" Sonic said. Team Sonic Ball began to enjoy a wonderful meal. Conversations were had, laughs were heard, and games were played. Life seemed to be at its peak for our heroes, but there were still two people they had yet to run into. "Wait a minute. I just had a thought. Why don't we invite Silver and Blaze? They don't live too far from here, and it'll be fun!"
Tails said. He pulled out his communicator and dialed Silver's number. "Hello? This is Silver the Hedgehog speaking. How may I be of your assistance?" he asked. "Hi Silver! It's Tails! We were wondering if you and Blaze would like to come over for a little celebration of our victory over Buu!" Silver put his communicator down, and asked Blaze if she'd like to come. "Of course, darling. I'd love to. I'll go anywhere as long as you're with me." Blaze said. Silver paused. "Wait, what? 'darling'? You never called me that before. What's that all about?" Silver disconnected abruptly. Tails looked shocked. "Um, yeah they're coming. Should be here in about half an hour." The team kept on eating and joking around for a good long while. It was a good night; the moon shining on the sea around them, the air smelling of crisp oxygen, the airplane hangar, and the Capsule Corp spaceship in the front yard. Two bright lights appeared on the horizon; one white and the other red-orange. Vegeta was the first to notice. "What are those lights outside? It could be someone attacking us. Be on your guard." Vegeta went Super Saiyan and assumed his fighting stance. "Calm down, it's just Silver and Blaze. They're here for the party. You can calm down." Tails said. Vegeta sat back down and reverted back to his base form. Silver and Blaze landed on Sonic's beach, and walked towards the door. "Hey guys, we're here!" Sonic opened the door and let them in. The celebration continued for hours afterward, all the while, something big was happening in the basement.
