Disclaimer: I do not own neither Divergent nor any of its characters.
As Pedrad parties usually are, this one is loud. So loud that Chris and I could hear the music for blocks and feel the bass vibrating the ground since we parked the car.
"Are we playing truth or dare tonight?" I ask my best friend as we walk up the stone steps leading to plenty of already intoxicated teenagers. Chris just loops her arm through mine once we reach the front door and turns to me.
"Tris, you should know the answer to your own question by now." Then she opens the door and drags me through it.
…
By the time truth or dare, or candor or dauntless as some of us call it, comes around, its almost midnight and nearly everyone here is feeling at least a little bit drunk and will have hangovers tomorrow. Zeke yells to get everyone's attention.
"If any of you bitches don't sit with me at lunch during school, then leave!"
I guess that is what now determines your true friendships?
So, like Zeke screamed out, only our group stays. We have some other people who sit with us who are outside of our closer friend group so they stay too.
All of us, me, Tobias, Chris, Will, Uriah, Marlene, Zeke, Shauna, Lynn, Aria, Jake, Connor, Elena, and Lilah all form a deformed circle around the Pedrad's living room that now smells like cheap beer. I take my seat between Tobias and Aria.
"Okay, so since it was my idea to have a party and I am the better brother, I will ask the first truth or dare," Uriah deems acting as if he were royalty or something. Zeke stands up.
"I'm the older and more handsome Pedrad, so it is my turn." The two morons just have a staring contest until they both yell, "arm wrestling!"
The two idiots of the group arm wrestle for two minutes until Uriah wins. He wraps an arm around Marlene and cheers.
"Guess we know who is the better bro!" He shouts. After Uriah and Zeke have both calmed down, we finally start the game.
"Okay, my dear, darling brother, candor or dauntless?" Uriah asks Zeke.
"Uri, do you know me?" Zeke questions with a smirk.
"Okay, fine, you smartass," Uriah says. "I dare you to go to the neighbor's house, ask for two eggs, then bite one like an apple and crack the other on their head." Everyone just stares at Uriah for a moment until Zeke speaks. "Fine. Anyone else coming?" Uriah goes to take a video of the dare along with Lynn who wanted to go because of the lasting prank war between her and the Pedrad brothers.
After a bit of just sitting, Uriah, Zeke, and Lynn all come back into the house with tears from laughter streaking their faces. Uri shows all of us the video while still laughing. At the end, it just shows Zeke puking in a bush in the front yard from eating the egg.
20 minutes later, all of us have finally calmed down enough to continue the game. Zeke turns to Tobias.
"Four, my man, truth or dare?" Tobias just thinks for a moment before he answers.
"Truth."
"Okay. Who was your first kiss because as your best friend, I think I should know." Four just chuckles in response. I think everyone else was a little shocked he didn't ask a more personal question.
"It was Sofia Manning in 6th grade I think," Tobias chuckles out.
From there the game just continued on with everyone taking turns asking questions and giving dares. By the time we were nearing the end of the game, everyone had been a little more drunk since you had to drink if you refused a question or a dare.
I look at the time on my phone and notice it's almost three in the morning. Tobias notices since I've been sitting on his lap with his arms wrapped around me for a while now.
"Hey, love, do you wanna get going soon?" I just nod my head thinking about how I love his name for me. We both get up and wave to everyone as we go.
We sit in his truck in silence as he drives. I see my road, but Tobias passes it and keeps driving.
"Babe, where are we going?" I question him. It's a good thing I said I was staying at a Chris's house tonight.
"You'll see," is all that he says to me. I just lean against the window and doze off.
A bit later, I wake up just to realize we've stopped in a grassy area. Tobias looks over at me and gets out of the car. He opens my door, tells me to close my eyes and I could feel him pick me up. A minute later, he sets me down in what I can tell is the bed of his truck.
"Open," is all that he says to me. I open my eyes to see two camping lanterns on either side of the back of the truck, blankets, pillows, snacks, all piled on an air mattress. He nervously rubs the back of his neck.
"I just thought that after the party and everything we could come here and just relax or hang out or just camp out I guess. I'm sorry. You probably don't like it. Oh God I screwed up. I'm sorry -" I grab his hands and just look into his eyes.
"Toby. I love this. Thank you." I pull him close to me and hug him tight while leaving a light kiss on his jaw. I feel him turn his head and kiss my temple.
"Of course, love." He whispers.
…
I wake up to the sun shining way too brightly for me, especially after the alcohol that I drank last night. So much for being money and daddy's little angel. I turn on my side and see Tobias still sleeping peacefully. I just watch him for a moment before his eyelids flutter open. He just watches me for a second like I had just been doing to him.
"Good morning," he says. Dang, he is sexy.
Huh, I actually thought that.
I mean we've kissed and made out before but we haven't done it yet. I feel like he might be ready to, but I'm not quite so sure that I am.
While I was thinking, he leaned over to give me a good morning kiss I guess you would call it. Soon enough, it leads to something more. Something intense and new. I end up straddling his waist and he holds me impossibly close to him. This goes on for a few minutes before we both pull away for air. We just look at one another before I stupidly interrupt our moment.
"What time is it?" I ask as I gently get off of him. He looks for his phone through the blankets we slept with.
"Almost ten thirty," he says when he finally finds it.
"I gotta get home soon. I told my parents that I was staying at Chris's last night," I tell him stupidly like my idiotic self would.
"Oh, okay," he says. I can tell that he is kind of upset. Tris, you are a major dumbass.
…
Within the next hour, Tobias and I have gotten back in the truck and started driving back home. He drops me off at Chris's so I can get my car to take back home. Before I can even get out of the truck, he speaks. "Babe, is there something wrong?" he asks.
Honestly, I don't have a clue as to what to say to this.
"No, Toby, I'm Perfectly fine," I tell him as I stroke his cheek that now has a bit of stubble on it. He turns and kisses my palm.
"Okay, love. You know you can talk to me if there is an issue right?" I just nod my head and peck his perfect lips before I hop out of the truck and wave to him as he drives away.
"C'mon Tris. Be okay for once," I tell myself as I hop in my car to drive home.
…
So here is this chapter. I don't know when I will be posting again to be honest. Thank you to those who are still reading this. I will be writing whenever I have the chance. I have taken up too many hobbies, both on my own as well at my school so I have become busier than ever, but then Covid hit so here I am. Hope you guys enjoyed this chapter.
