Chapter 31: Realizations
"Mom," Kopa said slowly, trying not to sound nervous. "What are you talking about?
"You said that you were going to the Rock Lands earlier today," Nala said. "I then heard that your brother was waiting for you there. Is Chaka alive? And be honest with me. Yes or no?"
"No," Kopa lied, not making eye contact with his mother. "I was talking about Damu. I wasn't talking about Chaka. Chaka is truly dead. Damu told me today when I got there."
"I don"t believe you, Kopa," Nala said, not buying her son's lie.
"W-What makes you think you don't believe me?" Kopa stammered, trying his best not to sound nervous but failing.
"For starter, you are not making eye contact with me," Nala pointed out, forcing her son to look at her. "And for another, the way you were speaking tells me you're lying. Now tell me the truth. Is Chaka alive?"
"No," Kopa lied again, avoiding eye contact. "Chaka's not alive."
"I still don't believe you, Kopa," Nala said, still not buying her son's lie.
"But it's the truth though," Kopa lied once again. "Chaka is dead. And I'm being honest with you right now."
"Kopa, do you really think I'm going to buy your lies right now?" Nala said, still not buying the lie once more. Kopa opened his mouth to respond but Nala held up her paw. "I'm not finished yet Kopa," she continued. "You're not telling me the truth right now. You're lying to me. You have never been a good liar to me. You and your sisters aren't good liars to me. I know you very well as much as you know me. Now tell me the truth and be honest with me. And I mean it when I say it. Is Chaka alive?"
"No," was all Kopa's response, not making eye contact.
"Kopa we'll stay here forever until you tell me the truth," Nala said. "Because right now you are lying to me."
"I don't want to stay here any longer," Kopa declared, now facing his mother. "I wanna get some good sleep for the night."
"Then tell me the truth then," Nala said firmly. "If you don't want to stay here forever then tell me the truth. Is your brother alive? And tell me the truth."
Kopa opened his mouth to lie but the serious look his mother was giving him made it useless to lie to her. He opened his mouth, to tell the truth, but Chaka's voice in his head echoed, "No! Don't tell her Kopa!" Kopa shuddered as the words echoed in his head again.
"I'm still waiting for an answer Kopa,' Nala said, sounding somewhat impatient that her son was taking forever to answer.
Kopa was going to answer his mother but thought, "I'm sorry Chaka. But I have to tell mom that you're alive. I know that you don't want me to but I have to say the truth. Mom is not playing around with me. I'm sorry Chaka. But I must say the truth." Kopa then took a deep breath and then looked at his mother, making full eye contact with her. He then said softly, "Yes. He's alive." Nala gasped hearing her son say this
"Kopa honey why couldn't you tell me?" Nala asked, shocked that her son would keep something like this from her.
"I couldn't," Kopa said truthfully. "Chaka didn't want me to tell you that he's alive."
"What makes him say that?" Nala asked, confused
"Well," Kopa began. "For starter he's not ready to face you yet. And for another, he thinks Simba would deny him from coming back."
"Kopa Simba would gladly accept Chaka back to the Pride Lands," Nala said gently. "Simba accepted the lionesses that Scar exiled. So what makes this any different?"
"Well for starter he said that Scar is his most despised enemy," Kopa said. "And if he came back, Simba would most likely say no to him because he's Scar's son."
"Kopa your brother would be welcomed back here," Nala said. "And I got one last question for you. When are you going to see Chaka again?"
"Before the sunrise tomorrow," Kopa informed his mother.
"Tell Chaka that he would be welcomed back here," Nala said. "And if he says that he won't be welcomed back then tell him that this message was from me."
"Ok," Kopa said. "I got the message."
"Thank you, Kopa," Nala said with a smile. "We should head back now. It's getting dark."
"Yeah," Kopa replied. With that, the mother and son got to their feet and started to head back to Pride Rock. As they were walking, Nala thought nervously to herself, "I'm really not ready to face Chaka. I haven't seen him in nearly 2 years now. I have no idea how he will talk to me. I hope it's for the better. I just pray and hope that he isn't mad with me. I was denied access to him during Scar's reign. I hope he at least understands that I was denied access to him." With these nervous and anxious thoughts, both Nala and Kopa were close to Pride Rock. Once they were there, they both went inside the royal cave and saw that everyone was asleep. They both nuzzled each other until going to their sleeping spot in the cave. They then were fast asleep, nervous what might happen if Chaka chooses to return to the Pride Lands
Kopa woke up early for a start. He looked around and saw everyone was asleep, including his sisters who were laying beside him. Being careful not to wake up anyone in the pride, Kopa got up to his feet and walked out of the cave. Once Kopa was out, he noticed the sun hasn't rised yet. So he then went down Pride Rock and started to head to the Rock Lands to meet his brother.
Ten minutes later, Kopa reached the Rock Land borders and was met by his half-brother Chaka. "Hey bro," Chaka said with a smile, giving his brother a nuzzle.
"Sup," Kopa replied with a smile of his own, returning the nuzzle.
"How you doin' fam?" Chaka asked.
"Doin' just fine bro," Kopa said, still smiling. "You?"
"Fine as well fam," Chaka said, also still smiling.
"Happy to know you're doing alright," Kopa said. "But I've got to say something to you. And you may get mad with me after a finish."
"What is it?" Chaka asked.
"I blew it," Kopa cried out. "I completely blew it Chaka."
"Blow what fam?" Chaka asked, confused.
"Remember when you said that you didn't want me to tell mom that you were alive?" Kopa asked. Chaka nodded his head by he said nothing, so Kopa continued, "I told her that you're alive," he said softly.
"Well thanks a lot, Kopa," Chaka growled, glaring at his creamy-coated brother. "Now mom knows that I'm alive. When I specifically told you not to tell her you still did. Thanks a freakin' hell a lot to you Kopa!"
"Well excuse me," Kopa growled back, also glaring back at his light-brown coated brother. "I was forced to tell her you're alive."
"Oh, how so?" Chaka said the sarcasm dripping. "How were you forced to tell mom that I was alive?"
Kopa then suddenly realized that he needed to confess what he told his mother yesterday. He took a deep breath and told Chaka everything from yesterday.
"Kopa," Chaka said in a calmer voice, once Kopa had finished explaining. "You could've just said that you were going to the Rock Lands to visit a friend. You didn't have to say that I was waiting for you here."
"Yeah," Kopa said, lowering his sea-green eyes in shame. "I could've said that instead of just saying you were waiting here."
"Well Kopa I want to talk to you about somethin'," Chaka said after a minute of silence.
"Oh?" Kopa said, raising an eyebrow. "What do you want to talk to me about?"
"I've been doing some thinking," Chaka said. "And honestly I feel like I shouldn't live here anymore."
"What are you talking about bro?" Kopa asked.
"Well Kopa," Chaka began. " You see..." But before Chaka could continue, he heard a voice say, "What are you doing here Kopa?" Kopa gasped and spun around to see who said that. He saw...
A/N: Kopa most certainly isn't a good liar isn't he? Kopa, you should have just said you were visiting a friend and it would be good dude! Your mother wouldn't have had to ask you if Chaka was still alive. And also, Nala deep down is actually nervous and scared to meet Chaka again. Why? Simple. She hasn't seen him in nearly 2 years. She's scared because Chaka could possibly be mad at her. As a reminder, Nala was not allowed to access Chaka once he was finished nursing. If Nala went anywhere near Chaka, she would be killed. There are your answers.
Anyways, that's it for Chapter 31. See y'all later in Chapter 32!
