Rapunzel: The sun had already set as Eugene and I walked to the train station, where Sylvester was digging through the trash bin.
"Sufferin' succotash." he said. "There's hardly anything to eat in here. And to think dinner is the most important meal of the day."
Realizing he was a cat, Pascal squealed in fear.
"It's alright, Pascal." I assured him. "He won't get you as long as you're safe with me."
"You feeling alright yourself?" asked Eugene.
"Oh, sorry, yes." I replied. "Just...um...lost in thought, I guess."
"Any...quarters for your thoughts?" joked Eugene.
I chuckled a bit...then sighed.
"I've been looking out the window for eighteen years...dreaming about what it might feel like when those lights rise in the sky. What if it's not everything that I dreamed it would be?"
Eugene just smiled and held my hand, saying. "It will be...Rapunzel."
I smiled a bit, for this was the first time in a while that he said my actual name.
"And what if it is?" I asked, still feeling uneasy. "What do I do then?"
"Well, that's the good thing about dreams." replied Eugene. "Once it comes true, you get to find a new one."
I smiled a bit more as Eugene motioned me towards the stairs.
Back inside the ice cream truck, Moe pulled out three lanterns as Curly asked. "So are you a hundred percent sure they ain't stars?"
"Quit yer yakkin' about stars and light 'em up!" Moe snapped, handing him a candle lighter, which Curly tried to start, but couldn't.
"Come on, ya grapehead." Moe said, getting impatient. "Light those lanterns!"
"I'm trying!" replied Curly, who was already getting frustrated trying to start the lighter, which Larry took, saying. "Here, let me try."
As he pulled the trigger, instead of lighting the lanterns, Larry ended up lighting Moe's hair on fire!
"OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" he howled, feeling his hair getting burned. "Why, you dummy..."
Before Moe could continue ranting, Larry plopped a barrel of strawberry ice cream on top of him, extinquishing the fire, then said. "We're sorry, Moe. It was an accident."
"Yeah, yeah." agreed Curly. "That's all it was. An accident."
At first, Moe looked as if he was going to snap, but instead, he calmly said. "Oh, that's alright, fellas. In fact, accidents can happen in the best of families."
Upon seeing the lighter in his hand, Larry and Curly realized Moe was about to do the same thing to them.
Outside, Max and the Eds could hear the commotion coming from the shaking truck.
"Is everything all right in there, gentlemen?" asked Double D as he knocked on the window, which opened, due to the Stooges' scuffle, letting loose the now-lit lanterns up into the night sky.
"Look, alien spaceships are attacking!" Ed cried out.
"Ed, how do you manage to stay stupid after all these years?" asked Eddy.
From where we were, Eugene and I watched as the other lanterns rose up to the sky.
All those days watching from the windows
All those years outside looking in
All that time never even knowing
Just how blind I've been
Now I'm here, blinking in the starlight
Now I'm here, suddenly I see
Standing here, it's all so clear
I'm where I'm meant to be
And at last I see the light
And it's like the fog has lifted
And at last I see the light
And it's like the sky is new
And it's warm and real and bright
And the world has somehow shifted
All at once everything looks different
Now that I see you
While admiringly watching the lanterns float in the sky, I turned to see Eugene holding two more of them, one for each of us.
"I have something to give you too." I said, pulling out...his satchel, to Eugene's surprise. "I should've given it to you before, but I was just scared. And the thing is...I'm not so scared anymore. You know what I mean?"
Eugene set his satchel aside and looked at me, saying. "I'm starting to."
After exchanging smiles, we let our lanterns loose into the sky.
Even though he was far from the train station, Ham could see Eugene holding my hand, realizing he had fallen for me. And so have I.
Eugene (V.O.):
All those days chasing down a daydream
All those years living in a blur
All that time never truly seeing
Things the way they were
Now she's here shining in the starlight
Now she's here, suddenly I know
If she's here it's crystal clear
I'm where I'm meant to go
Both: And at last I see the light
Eugene: And it's like the fog has lifted
Both: And at last I see the light
Rapunzel: And it's like the sky is new
Both:
And it's warm and real and bright
And the world has somehow shifted
All at once, everything is different
Now that I see you
Now that I see you...
Ham had just hurried to the train station, where he tripped over Sylvester on the way, and up the stairs, only to soon realize he was on the northbound side.
All he could do now was watch as Eugene kissed me and slowly back away.
