I was sitting at the front counter, making sure that the book order was done and ready to be sent off when my phone started beeping. I had an hour to lunch, so I ignore it as I wanted to get the order done and make a start on the shelves beforehand. I had just hit send on the order when my phone went off again, figuring it had to be somewhat important I grab my phone to quickly check it.
Harry: How's work?
Harry: Are you ignoring me? Is it because I snuck Draco up on you?
Harry: I am bored and have nothing better to do then text you.
I roll my eyes at the messages, but I can't help but let out a little smile.
Me: Work is good. No, I am not ignoring you, because of Draco or any other reason, I am busy. If you are bored, annoy Draco. I have work to do.
Harry: I can't. Draco is going between being grumbling at me and giving me to silent treatment for knowing where you have been for the last few days. I should have lied, but I let it slip when I found you.
Me: You should have told him. He is your partner. Also, suffer in silence. I need to get the shelves restacked.
Harry: Your shelves would be immaculate. You also have a worker bee to make do all that. Isn't that the point of having employees?
Me: That might be it for you, but for me, no. Do you do any paperwork?
Me: I can't imagine Draco doing any paperwork.
Harry: I do my paperwork. No one else is going to do it.
Harry: And Draco does do his own paperwork… sometimes. Other times I may have to do for him.
Me: Sounds right. I am surprised you don't have interns doing your paperwork for you.
Harry: I WOULD NEVER!
Harry: … After they completely botched some and nearly got a serial killer off.
Me: Are you serious?
Harry: Yeah. Kingsley ripped into us. It was bad. They forgot to add certain parts of the evidence. Like the bloodied clothes and you know… the murder weapon.
Harry: They also put the timeline in the wrong order, dates and times were messed up. It took me and Draco 10 hours to fix the report and that was working nonstop.
Me: So, just the important parts that were missing then?
Me: Also, the murder weapon wasn't his wand?
Harry: Yes and no. He also used a couple of other things, like a knife. He was one twisted little shit. Turns out, his family had a few dark secrets, like being an abusive sadistic asshole. It was learnt behaviour. But he still got life in Azkaban but is also going to be receiving counselling.
Me: How bad was the punishment from Kingsley?
Harry: We got pulled off of field work for a month and made to go over all our paperwork that the interns did for us and then we had to check other field agents paperwork until the month was up.
Me: Good. Suffer. Serves you right. I would have given you 2 months.
Harry: Well, now everyone hates us as that is one of the punishments that Kingsley doles out after seeing just how good and thorough our paperwork has become.
Me: After years of Having me help you with your homework, how could it be subpar?
Me: Also, Draco was in second spot behind me, I know his paperwork would have been up to standard.
Harry: Yes, well. You know how much I loved doing the essays. And turns out, only reason Draco was behind you was because of his dad and the threat against his mum.
Me: Honestly. Boys.
The bell above the doors went off so I quickly put my phone down and looked up, "Mrs. Fox, How are you today?"
"I am good dear, how are you?"
"I'm good, thank you. Can I help you find something or are you just looking today?"
"I am just looking for now, but I will let you know."
I gave her a small smile and she went into the shelves to have a look around. I looked at my phone but no reply. I went back to finishing off the order, making sure I didn't miss anything. I would just blame Harry if I did. I sent it off just as my phone beeped, a message from Harry.
Harry: What? Paperwork sucks. I mean, I get it. But it sucks.
Harry: Also, sorry for taking so long. Draco was being extra sulky when he realised, I was messaging you. And I am sorry about how I made him feel better?
Me: The sooner you get it done, the sooner you never have to look at it again.
Me: Wait. Sorry? What did you do?
My phone beeped and I got a message from a number I didn't recognise just as Mrs. Fox called and asked for help. I put my phone down and went to help her.
"Yes, Mrs. Fox. How can I help?"
"My granddaughter was telling me about these books, written by Sarah J Mass? Apparently, I just must read them. You wouldn't have those in, would you?"
"Yes, I do. Do you know which series you would like to read?"
"I think I would like to start with A Court of Thorns and Roses."
"Would you like all four?"
"Yes, why not? Have you read them?"
"I have actually, they are a really good series. The Throne of Glass series is good as well. Takes a little more to get into I found, but still good."
"Well, I will start with this and then see how I go. I might be back for the other series." We went to front desk and I rung it up. I put her books in a bag and walked her to the door. I locked it and put the back in 15 minutes sign up. I just needed enough time for a bathroom break and to make lunch, could eat at the counter. I walked past the counter and out to the back before I remembered my phone. I shrugged, and went to get lunch, I'll check it when I go back out. I put the rice in the microwave and went to the bathroom. I got out just as the microwave finished so I grabbed it out, put the tuna on top and put the dressing on the salad. I walked out the front and went to sit at the desk before remembering that I needed my water bottle and to unlock the shop.
Once it was all done and I had had a couple mouthfuls of lunch, I picked up my phone and checked the message, only to see three from Harry and six from the unrecognised number.
URN: I have been wondering why Potter has been staring moon-eyed at his phone for so long, should have known it was your fault.
URN: You know, it is rude not to respond to messages.
URN: I bet you are responding to Potter and ignoring me.
URN: OH, that is real mature. Just ignore me.
Harry: I am so sorry.
Harry: Are you ignoring both of us? Because now is pissy at you for not responding.
URN: Wait. You are ignoring him as well?
URN: Well. I guess I can forgive you if you are ignoring him. I mean, it is Potter, I get it. But why are you ignoring me?
Harry: Please message him. He won't shut up now.
Me: I was getting lunch you idiots.
Me: I am going to assume the other idiot is Draco?
Harry: That would be correct.
Draco: Did you just call me an idiot? You have ignored me for the last 20 minutes, now you are calling me names? Real mature.
Me: Thank you for telling Draco that.
Me: You are both idiots. Don't take it too personally.
Harry: I didn't tell him he read over my shoulder before I could stop him.
Me: I have work. I need to do it. So, come and help or leave me alone.
Draco: So, What? Now that I am talking to you, you have to go? Really?
Me: I am at work. I have to work. I have a job to do. I can't slack off like you idiots.
Me: I changed my mind. You can come and help me. Now. That is your punishment for giving Draco my number.
Harry: Yeah. That's fair. I'll be there soon.
Draco: So, he gets to come and play and I don't?
Me: No, you can come too. I have enough work for the both of you.
Me: Bring coffee. Bean squeeze. Stretch. 2 sugars.
Draco: Yeah. Whatever. Be there soon.
'Idiots' I mutter to myself as I put my phone down and finished my lunch, waiting for them to show up.
