Swooped In

"You made the arrest?" Theo shook his head, walking into Jake's office after seeing him arrive back at the precinct.

"Yeah, and we've shut down the dealership." Jake nodded to him.

"Uh… are you kidding me?" Theo looked at him angrily.

"Didn't you want this?" Jake asked.

"Well yeah but… you just swoop in and suddenly it's all your case now? You don't even have the courtesy to call me about it?" Theo questioned, "Plus, I got a guy in holding after he came to my house and attacked my wife."

"Look it was a quick decision, I rounded up everyone, I couldn't find you, I didn't wanna waste time." Jake shrugged.

"You know, Cassie is one of your employees. It wouldn't hurt you to ask if she's ok." Theo said.

"Sorry, forgive me." Jake nodded, "Is she ok?" He asked sincerely.

"She's fine." Theo nodded, "How can you go from not having enough evidence to suddenly closing the whole thing down within a matter of hours? Who did you talk to?" He shook his head.

"Mark." Jake sighed to himself.

"Mark?" Theo questioned, "What the fuck does he know?"

"He was working for them." Jake nodded as Theo shook his head with confusion.

"Come again?" Theo looked puzzled.

"Once he told me about the evidence storage unit getting broken into… and conveniently there was no surveillance at that time, something didn't feel right to me." Jake said, "I spoke to Helen in control room and she said a couple of days ago that Mark came by and asked for a routine check on all the surveillance footage. So the cameras all got switched off. Must have been when he took whatever it was he took-"

"Photographs." Theo nodded, "Of a girl being sexually assaulted." He made clear as Jake nodded.

"Right." Jake nodded.

"But he was the one who told us." Theo said.

"He was just covering his tracks. If he's the one who told us then… probably help us believe it was someone else." Jake shrugged, "So he's arrested too."

"What the fuck." Theo shook his head, "Seriously, what the fuck is this shit show about?" He questioned.

"So there's the car dealership and there's also a hair and nail salon downtown that we've found evidence of the same drugs being delivered to." Jake nodded.

"I can't believe you just went ahead and cleared all this up-"

"Yeah well I was afraid you were gonna get killed." Jake said truthfully, "And I know you were worried about your son."

"Is that how word got around that I was getting close to things? From Mark? Did he tell them all?" Theo realised.

"Yeah, he must have." Jake nodded, "Makes sense, I guess. If you got a cop on your side in that world, you know when shit is gonna hit the fan." He said, "Surprised we don't see this more often."

"But Mark? He's been here for years." Theo shook his head.

"Well you never really know someone, do you?" Jake shrugged, "Who's the guy that tried to attack Cassie?"

"His name is… Paul Mosely. Think he worked under this guy Drew. He's not saying much but I think he's got a concussion." Theo said as Jake nodded, "So… this guy Drew, he's been arrested?"

"Yeah." Jake said, "It's still your case so… I expect you to still be working with me on it-"

"Oh, nice of you to include me in this part." Theo nodded to him.

"I made a quick decision, ok? It was getting out of hand." Jake said, "And now I got Sean on the phone, burning my fucking ear off telling me he's gonna sue the precinct for being so careless." Jake shook his head.

"Sean will calm down. I'd be pretty upset if I was him too." Theo shook his head, "Jude shouldn't have saw those photographs."

"Yeah and wait for it, I also have Karen as in… Detective Karen Williams on the phone also… she's pretty pissed about it too." Jake nodded.

"So that's why you made a move, let's face it." Theo said.

"It was the right call." Jake said.

"It was the right call a couple days ago, too." Theo nodded, "I'm going home."

"Theo." Jake sighed as he watched Theo leave the office.

"So Theo just called, they've shut down the dealership and made arrests." Punk said, a little surprised as he walked into the living room where AJ was sitting.

"I thought Theo said that there wasn't enough on them?" AJ questioned.

"Well he did but… sounds like Jake just went ahead and called the shots. He also said there was a little bit of an incident with Cassie and some guy who came to the house but she's alright, she's fine… and the guy has been arrested." Punk nodded.

"Thank God." AJ sighed.

"And something about… a cop who was working dirty." Punk said, "He was in on it and he was the one who got into Jude's case file, sent the photographs." He shook his head.

"What a nightmare." AJ shook her head, "I just… I hope Jude is ok." She sighed, thinking about her daughter and how she had to be feeling right now after what she had got eyes on.

"Well she's probably not." Punk shook his head as AJ sighed.

"Maybe we should go see her." AJ nodded, "I got the weekend off, we could fly out Friday night."

"Yeah." Punk thought to himself, "Yeah, we should do that." He agreed. It was hard having Jude live so far away. They're instincts were to run to her and make sure she was ok. Not being able to do that as soon as they'd like was challenging.

"I'll book us flights." AJ nodded, looking on her phone.

"I thought that half our family being cops now would benefit us but this… this sucks." Punk said as AJ nodded.

"I'm just glad they're all ok." AJ shook her head.

"Gets to a point, though, where being just ok isn't enough." Punk said.

"Has anyone told Thea about all of this?" AJ asked.

"I don't think she's got all the details but… I don't think she needs to know." Punk said, "She's doing good. If she finds out about what happened with Jude she'll… she'll snap. You know how she is with her." He said as AJ nodded.

"Yeah… yeah, we can always let her know later." AJ said as Punk nodded in agreement, "Was this dirty cop someone Cassie and Theo knew?"

"Well obviously, they worked with him." Punk said, "Must have been how they had a clue on how Theo was getting closer to finding things." He nodded.

"You think Vincent's been arrested?" AJ wondered.

"I don't know." Punk said, "Or care." He shook his head.

"Hey, at least he told us things that he knew." AJ said.

"He gave Thea drugs." Punk said, "I don't care what he told us."

"We gave people just like Thea drugs too-"

"Yeah and we learned and grew up." Punk turned to her as AJ just nodded, "That was a long time ago. A long time ago." He emphasised.

"And it still happens. People die. People change. They get younger. They get smarter. It's still out there." AJ shook her head as Punk nodded.

"At least there's one less group on the streets now." Punk nodded.

"I bet Theo's sort of pissed that Jake took over and made the arrests." AJ said, "He worked hard on all of this."

"Yeah, that's what I was thinking." Punk thought to himself, "I don't know how things work there, though. It was getting kinda chaotic when I was there earlier."

"Yeah I don't know how Cassie can work in that environment." AJ shook her head.

"She's good at it." Punk nodded.

"Just seems like a lot of stress." AJ said, "I can't stop thinking about Jude." She sighed, leaning her head on his shoulder as Punk nodded.

"Yeah, me too." Punk said, kissing her head.

"Just be calm." Theo nodded the next day, walking into the police station with Cassie.

"I am calm." Cassie assured him, "My parents are going to see Jude this weekend so can your mom babysit Chase whilst we're working? I'm only off Saturday." She told him, clocking in with him.

"I'll call her later." Theo said.

"Wouldn't be surprised if Jake was taking the day off. Let you clean up all the mess." Cassie shook her head.

"Keep your claws in, alright?" Theo tapped her behind as she shook her head.

"I just think it's ridiculous that he swoops in, makes the arrests, comes off like the hero when it was you who was doing all the hard work. It's the story of that man's life." Cassie shook her head, standing at her desk with him.

Theo filled her in on everything last night. He also shared his frustrations with her over Jake's handling of the situation. And of course he had to let her know about Mark, which boiled her blood.

"Everyone knows that's what he's like, though. It's fine." Theo assured her, just trying to keep her calm, "Apparently Karen Williams is dropping by today."

"Maybe that's why he's not in. We all know she scares him. And I love it." Cassie shook her head, "And I love her." She admitted.

"She's a scary one." Theo nodded, "Why don't you take a half day?" He asked her.

"No, I'll be fine. I got some paper work to catch up on." Cassie said as Theo just nodded, "At least it's a weight off your shoulders now, knowing it's all been shut down."

"Yeah, a little." Theo nodded, "I can't help feel guilty."

"For what?" Cassie shook her head.

"What happened with Jude." Theo said.

"That's not your fault." Cassie said, "That was just a desperate attempt to get you to back off."

"Yeah, exactly." Theo said, "It was to get at me. She's been through enough. She never needed to see that." He shook his head.

"I know, but it's… it's not your fault. And she won't think it's your fault. You know her." Cassie said as Theo nodded, turning around as they watched Mark being escorted through the precinct in handcuffs.

He was too busy looking to notice Cassie taking off, running towards him and tackling him to the ground.

"Jesus." Theo groaned, rushing over.

"You're a fucking pig!" Cassie yelled, grabbing his face, punching him a good few times before Theo grabbed her around the waist.

"Alright, wrap it up." Theo told her, "Come on, he's not worth it." Theo warned her, not wanting her to get carried away.

"Fuck you!" Cassie pointed as Mark stood up, "I hope you rot." She spat angrily, trying to get at him again as Theo kept her back.

"Just back up." Theo told her, pulling her back as Mark was taken down the precinct and out of sight, "Can you calm down?" He asked his wife as Cassie fixed her hair and nodded to him.

"I'm fine." Cassie assured him, taking a deep breath, "I'm fine." She nodded, heading over to her desk. It was hard not to be angry or upset.
