Misfit Chapter 28: "And...Exposed"

"So…how are we going to get the blueprints without Dewey finding out?" April asked. She looked over at her friends, who were trying to think of a plan while playing Baggle, their favorite board game.

"Dunno." May responded simply, rolling a six.

June rolled a two, "Well, we need to figure out something."

Huey got up, "I'm not going to sit here all day and do nothing. I'm gonna go and try to convince Dewey to give it up."

- Meanwhile-

Dewey eyed the piece of paper he'd found on the ground in the living room, wondering where it came from. The corners of it were yellowed, and on one side were the blueprints of something. On the other side, there was some information about a bank.

He scratched his head, wondering if this was Scrooge's. He decided that it couldn't be, because this was not Scrooge's, nor anyone else in the household's, handwriting. It couldn't be a magical artifact, because the sheet of paper didn't have any magical qualities, at least, not any that were visibly seen with the naked eye.

Dewey would have normally not payed this much mind, but it somehow made him curious, compelling him to learn more about it. The faded look of the paper, mysterious handwriting, and strange blueprints gave it a slightly unnerving look, giving off an eerie vibe. Squinting slightly, Dewey spotted something tiny, barely even noticeable handwriting.

"What the heck?" Dewey muttered, feeling the paper crinkle under his hands as he squeezed them.

Slowly and quietly, Dewey crept down the corridor and into Webby's room. His eyes went to the tall shelf on the left side of the room, where he saw Webby's journal, which covered in the same red glitter as before. He picked it up, opening the small reading light on top of it, flipping through the pages.

"What are you doing in my room?"

Dewey flinched, knowing that no matter how quiet he would try to be, nothing got past Webby, "Gah!" He yelped, staggering back. He backed up towards the bookshelf, and banged his hip on the side of it.

Webby gasped, "Oh my gosh! Are you okay, thief?!"

Dewey groaned, rubbing is hip, "Webby it's just ME!"

"Whoops. Sorry." She laughed sheepishly, but then narrowed her eyes, "What were you doing with my journal?"

"I was just trying to find out if there was anything in there that could help me figure out what this is." He presented Webby the scroll. The pink-loving duck took it, turning it over, "One side has blueprints, and the other has stuff about the local bank." She observed.

"Wait…" Something clicked inside Dewey's head, "Gimme that." He turned it back over to the side with the bank information, "There's a number here."

"Maybe it's how much money the person who wrote this information has saved in the bank?" Webby guessed.

"No, there's a colon in-between. This is a time. And frankly, the exact same time of the robbery!" Dewey gasped.

Webby raised an eyebrow, "Where did you find this?"

"On the ground. In the living room."

"Heya buddy!" A new voice interrupted them.

"Huey?" A confused Dewey said.

"So, about that paper…" Huey started tugging on the corner of it.

"Give it! It's mine!" Dewey yanked it out of his grasp, an advantage of being the stronger, more athletic brother of the three triplets.

"Actually, it's mine. I dropped it in the living room. Now give me the paper." Huey stuck out his hand.

"Nerp." Dewey responded.

"This is important! Listen to me!"

"Why do you want it so badly?" Webby asked.

Huey scrunched up his face, "I wouldn't do that if I were you. Curiosity killed the cat, remember?"

"Stupidity killed the cat, curiosity was framed." Dewey smirked.

Huey seethed, "Look, just give me the paper, okay?!"

Dewey slammed the door in his face and locked it, "It's mine! I found it fair and square! Just tell me why you want it, and I'll give it to you!"

"I can't, Dewford!"

"Then I'll find out on my own."

Something shifted beside the door, and Dewey peeked through the small hole in the wood to see an enraged Huey, glowing bright red, storming off.

"Who ruffled his feathers?" Webby watched him leave.

"I don't know. But this must be a pretty big deal if Huey didn't want us to find it. We've got to figure out what this means, and-!"

"What's this?" Webby interrupted him, placing her feathery index finger on the tiny print that Dewey had trouble reading earlier.

"I don't know. Got a magnifying glass?" Dewey asked her.

"Yerp!" She grabbed one of the shelf, handing it to Dewey.

"What does it say?"

"What's the Amulet Of Supremacy?" Dewey wondered, making sure he read it right.

"Amulet Of Supremacy, Amulet Of Supremacy, Amu- I've heard that somewhere!" Webby opened a chest and grabbed a book.

"So Do You Love Ponies?" Dewey read the title.

Webby pulled off the cute cover, revealing a green and blue book with a lighter green skull on it, "The Grimoire Du Merlock! A book of spells...that I may or may not have stolen from the library. Seriously, that place needs, like, way better security."

"Mmmm, yeah, I'm pretty sure that even if there was the best security in the world, it probably couldn't trip you up the slightest, Webbs." Dewey laughed.

"Aw, thanks!" She opened up the book, skimming through the pages, "Aha! The Amulet Of Supremacy! There's a bunch of spells that can be done with it, but its main purpose is to be used by the person holding the amulet to possess something- in most cases, a person.

"So then what do the blueprints have to do with this? Is that where the amulet is located?" Dewey asked.

"Maybe. And the bank robbery…?"

"…Could factor into all this as well." Dewey's eyes widened in sudden realization, "The person who robbed the bank could be possessed!"

"But exactly who did rob the bank?" Webby held her phone, showing an online blog conspiracy about the small duckling being Louie Duck.

"I don't know…there's something weird going on. June, April, May, Huey, and even Violet have been acting weird for quite a while now. I always thought it wasn't a big deal, but…" Dewey's voice trailed off.

"They know something that we don't!" Webby finished for him. She put a finger on her chin, "What does this mean for us?"

"We need to find out exactly what they've hidden from us. Whether they like it, or not."

Oooop! Webby and Dewey are onto the others! How will they Dewey it? I dunno! 'Till next time…
