She was sore.

Too sore.

Kagome stretched her legs out across the bench. She placed her palms on the seat and leaned back. Dabi had really done a number on her the other night. It was her first time but he hadn't given her a second to catch her breath. Then again she supposed that he'd done that on purpose.

The ass.

Her face flushed at the thought.

Truthfully, the exact nature of their relationship was still a mystery to her. They'd been friends for so long yet even before they'd slept together, she knew that their bond had shifted somehow. From the very moment he stormed back into her life and saved her from death's doorstep, she'd known that things had irrevocably changed between them. No longer could they see each other as simply "friends". Last night was just the reminder that they were not capable of remaining platonic towards one another. If anything, they were closer to lovers yet their relationship had been left undefined.

Was their night together simply a result of the feelings their separation had fostered? Or was it something much deeper? She didn't have an answer to any of this.

There was only one truth that remained:

Dabi had become an enigma to her.

He wasn't the happy-go-lucky boy she'd known in her youth. In that boy's place was a man hardened by despair, hatred and a lust for revenge. Still, he wasn't entirely consumed by those feelings either. There was something more to him. There was a fire that'd been lit within him that she couldn't quite place.

Kagome glanced down at her phone.

She'd finally managed to wrangle his number out of him a few days ago. They didn't have to message each other often but when they did, it was typically over things that were innocuous. Did they need any food tonight? Should she pick something up on the way home?

Most of their messages revolved around groceries as of late.

Although she had a feeling he'd be getting more supplies on his own soon enough.

Kagome fought down the blush that threatened to make its return.

Now wasn't the time to be thinking about that!

She her finger across the screen before dialing Dabi's number.

Even if it was stupid of her, she wanted to hear his voice.

Her smile softened.

She already missed it.
