Chapter 25: A Blind Date

"When do we get to learn how to fight?!" a young enthusiastic voice asked her mentor, "Justice my dear, why do you wish to fight all the time?" the female teacher asked her. They were walking through the central courtyard of the demonic citadel, the dark kingdom was still being developed, construction projects were erecting all over the place. Justice's mentor was an elderly demon, a wise but weathered creature. She had faded white and grey hair, her face and body showed a history of conflict, numerous scars and a missing ear were evidence of a rough life, on her face one prominent scar showed how she lost her right eye. Her other eye was still a bright green, with a dark slit in the center, the serpent's last good eye.

"So I can defeat those who wish to harm us, the bad guys!" a young Justice looked up at the older demon, leading her across the courtyard, they were heading in the direction of the dorms for the younger demons. "Justice, you know that seeking conflict-" the older demon began, "Will only incite further conflict" Justice repeated, sighing heavily. "What does conflict lead to?" the mentor asked the student, "Pain, misery and loss. The worst a demon can experience" Justice said, having learnt these lessons off by heart. "Good girl" the mentor squeezed the younger demon's hand.

"How did you become High Prosecutor again?" Justice would ask this question whenever they were alone or away from her studies. "Hard work and determination, you know the story Justice", the older demon sighed, she wished this bright and smart young demon wouldn't throw her life away. Just like she did. Justice was now following a similar path to her mentor, a path you don't return from. "Follow your heart and it will guide you to where you want to be, no one controls your destiny except you".

"I'll make you proud!" Justice shouted confidently, "I know you will, I remember when I ha-" the older demon stopped dead, "Your Highness!" her and Justice failed to notice the Queen of Hell had now appeared in front of them, two giant muscular Hell Knights were stood either side of her. The two demons knelt automatically before their queen. The younger Queen of Hell was wearing an incredibly dark outfit, black was the only colour she wore, the suit being the staple fashion for the devil. Today, she was wearing a red tie instead of a black one, there was a pentagram sigil in her right hand, it was glowing slightly.

"Forgive me, Your Highness, I was not aware of thy presence. I was escorting young Justice to her dormitory" the older demon had her head facing the ground, Justice mimicking her mentor. "Rise Damballa, my former prosecutor, you do not kneel to me" the devil had a kind smile on her face, a strange change from her usual malicious smirk. "Thank you, Your Highness" she rose from her position, her hands moving to behind her back as a sign of respect. Justice remained on the floor, aware that she was not to stand until allowed to, but instead of being given permission to stand the Devil knelt down to talk to the younger demon.

"Justice was it?" the devil smiled, a fitting name, "Y-ye-s, Your Highness" the demon stuttered, nervous of the impression she was making . "Rise Justice, I do not wish for the most promising student of my demon brood to kneel in the dirt". Justice obeyed, both herself and the devil rising in synchronization. "Damballa has told me all about you young one, you have a promising future", she looked at Justice and then at her two bodyguards. "Back off boneheads" she clicked her fingers, the two guards obeying the devil and assuming a defensive stance a few metres away.

"What do you wish to be Justice?" Lucifer crossed her arms, hiding the pentagram. She maintained her smile, leaning forward slightly. "High Prosecutor!" Justice didn't hesitate, "Ah, I see why you chose her Damballa, she has your fiery spirit" the devil looked at the former prosecutor. "Very true, Your Highness. Just like the ones who came before and after me, she will not fail you". The devil quickly glanced at the pentagram glowing brightly under her arms, she smirked. She turned back to the younger demon, a kind reassuring smile boosting Justice's confidence.

"I'm sure she won't"

"What do you think I stole from Mantus, what was the only thing he had left?" Beelzebub looked at her Helltaker, her hand still held in his giant ones. "His daughter's?", it was the first answer to come into his mind. "No! I'm not that cruel!" Beelzebub drew her hand away from his, turning to face away. "Then just tell me B!" he placed a hand on her shoulder. She sighed deeply. "It's strange what you can find in the abyss, after centuries of searching I found his body drifting through the void...his soul was still attached...". He couldn't tell, but he would like to think Beelzebub was showing signs of regret. "So you took it?" he asked, the pieces of the puzzle finally coming together.

"I did" Beelzebub confessed, "The soul of an angel..." the man said mildly shocked, he didn't believe in the concept of a soul, but this changed things. "An incredibly powerful soul, you couldn't imagine the possibilities" a sudden power crazy smile appeared on her face, soon disappearing after a depressing chuckle. "Unfortunately, the abyss limited the power, but now we are here I can-"" she stopped herself from rambling. "Even with an angel's soul, I could not escape that fucking prison" she hung her head in sadness but this quickly changed as she looked at him, "Until you saved me". "Heh" it was his turn to look at the floor.

"I haven't saved anyone. I couldn't save my squad mates, I couldn't save my demons against Mantus, I couldn't save my own damn parents" he felt tears building, he felt strangely fragile. "Don't say that!" Beelzebub placed a hand on his face, "Without you...I would have been trapped there forever". "When I arrived there, you were the one to save me...I was already slipping. You clicked your fingers and I was alive..." he countered.

After an incredibly long staring contest, he looked away, afraid that if he stared any longer into those red eyes he would be consumed by them. "I suppose you're right B...anyway". It was time to return to the topic at hand, "Do you still have it?" he asked his demon, fighting down his true feelings. "Of course" Beelzebub moved her two hands to form a cup, she manifested the angel's soul in her hands. He saw the golden but slightly blackened soul appear above the demon's hands, fiery golden light was spilling out of her hands. The soul was hovering just above the centre of her hands, golden and black sparks were flying out of it.

Distant angelic whispers could be heard, a choir and the sound of harps were joining the overwhelming amalgamation of sounds, but the unmistakable hum of the abyss could also be heard. The angel's soul had been corrupted by the abyss's touch, Beelzebub had exposed it to her dark magic repeatedly, small black cracks in the centre of the golden soul could be seen. The ejected sparks were landing on his leg, even through his clothes he could feel the golden spark's warmth. The feeling was amazing. It was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen, it could be his...

...

..

.

No, he had to fight to it. "I can't- I won't allow this" he sighed seeing Beelzebub's reaction to his words, "Beelzebub, you have to return it" he moved his hands to make The Great Fly close her's, demanifesting the soul. "What?" she was in shock, "No!". "B" he gave her a stern look, "Do you realise what we could do with this? The power I could grant to you, to us!" she gestured to the man, then to herself. "I don't want power" he countered, "Well I do!" Beelzebub shouted. "I know YOU do, but if we keep this, Mantus will come back", he paused temporarily. "He will keep coming back, he will kill you, he will kill us all!" the severity of the situation present on his voice. "If he comes back, I'll kill him first!" Beelzebub was now stood, fists clenched, staring at the Helltaker.

It was his turn to get angry, "You haven't see what I have Beel. How he tossed us aside like we were nothing. He was about to kill me, thank god Malina and Zdrada were there", he wasn't finished. "I saw the most powerful demon of them all trapped and beaten, she lay there and I couldn't-" he fought down a sob. "And I couldn't save her!" his voice almost a shout.

"Mantus had imprisoned her, he flung them all to the ceiling! He made me look at him! Made me look into the abyss". Beelzebub shocked by this news took a step back, "Look into the abyss, tell me what you see?" she quoted Mantus exactly, she had used the exact same weapon against Justice. "Yes, heard it before?" he quizzed her. "Too many times to count, you weren't blinded?". The Helltaker put two and two together. "Jesus Christ, that's how Justice-" he hid his face in his hands, his elbows leaning on the table. "Poor fucking girl". Beelzebub remained silent.

"So I was lucky in that respect...fucking hell", the man trying his best to hide his despair. "Do you understand now? He can't be beaten, not by the likes of you or any other demon" he rubbed his face then looked at the demon. "I don't care. I'll use his soul to crush anyone in our way". A megalomanical smile began to form on her face again, the power rush was getting to her. He had try something, anything to break the spell that was over her.

"Beel, what would you use it for, truly? What could you possibly want that you don't already have?" he smiled at her, his signature smile the key weapon to slowly cracking her defences. This hit her differently, what did she want? There was a huge list in her mind, but she knew that they were all impossible to achieve, this depressing reality stabbed her right in the heart. Tears started falling again, he stood up and quickly moved to hold her in a tight embrace. His right hand placed on the back of her head, "Shhhh, it's okay" he quietly spoke. "I want the world... I want to be the rightful Queen of Hell...I want them to forgive me..." the truth was overflowing her mind, "I want you...I want a child...god I've wanted a child of my own for so long", a lengthy sob followed, as well as a fierce cry. "With this power I could..." she began, "I could give us all such a gift, don't you want that?" her muffled voice barely a whisper. He hesitated, but he decided to speak the truth. "Of course I want that" he confessed also whispering, "Then let me do it!" her voice slightly raised.

"I can't allow that, we need to do the right thing here B", it was a hard hitting truth. Beelzebub was so close to her achieving her dreams, it was in reach. Now he was tearing it away from her. "I don't-, I don't want to do the right thing!" she sobbed into his chest. "I know you don't, sometimes doing the right thing is the hardest choice". He let her cry, almost crying himself, knowing that he was destroying her dreams, their dreams. After a long while, they parted, wiping her tears away with the back of his finger.

"Will you do it for me?"

"Rise, High Prosecutor" Lucifer smirked at the demon in front of her. Justice obeyed, standing to look at the devil. Her fist placed firmly on her heart, she was wearing a black jacket with small spikes on her shoulders. Underneath it was a torn red shirt, she was wearing tight black leather trousers and ankle high black boots. Her white hair had been tied back into one long flowing ponytail that reached down to her neck. There was no traditional high prosecutor outfit, each demon wore whatever outfit they desired. The armour they wore in times of conflict was always the same, as well as the weapons and powers gifted to them by the devil. Passed down from prosecutor to prosecutor.

"From hence forth you will be my right hand, you will smite our enemies where they stand, strike fear into the hearts of the non-believers and bring peace to the nine circles", the pentagram sigil was present in her right hand, she was subconsciously turning it over repeatedly. "You must protect the demons of Hell with your life, you are the front line for protecting our realm, you are my deadly weapon, you are Justice". The newly anointed High Prosecutor remained silent, "Do you pledge yourself to me? Your mind, your body, your soul will all belong to me. Do you accept this oath?" the devil's voice boomed throughout her throne room. The audience of Hell Priests remained silent, heads bowed. There was a gathering of nearly thirty Priests, the others were currently on the surface.

"I do, Your Highness" Justice nodded, she had finally achieved her life dream. The pentagram sigil glowed intensely for a few seconds. "The pact has been sealed, it is done" Lucifer waved her white gloved hand and dismissed the Hell Priests, the gathering exited quickly and quietly. Two Hell Knights closed the giant stone doors to the throne room as the last Hell Priest exited, Justice and Lucifer were now alone in her throne room. "Phew, that was intense. Care for a drink?" Lucifer slumped into her thrown, removing her crown off of her head, allowing her hair to fall onto her shoulders. She kicked off her black high heels, revealing her bare feet. She loosened her tie with her right hand, eventually removing it and demanifesing it. "I'm good Lucy" Justice took a step forward to her friend, she watched the demon manifest a glass of blood red wine.

"Suit yourself, sorry for starting the ceremony on such short notice. For some reason the robed weirdos wanted to keep to tradition, a tradition I've long forgotten", she chuckled taking a long slurp of the wine. "No worries" Justice maintained a professional manner, Lucifer noticed this. "Relax Justice, you don't have to be the high prosecutor with me" the devil manifested a red box, it landed on her lap. "I'm sorry, It's just strange. I know we are friends, but I feel inclined to show you the respect you deserve" Justice protested. "Oh shut it, don't go talking to me about respect" she took another drink of her wine, finishing the glass. A bottle manifested and began automatically refilling the glass, disappearing soon after it was full. "You have come a long way, I remember when you were this tall" she held one gloved hand above the floor, indicating Justice's height.

"We" Justice corrected her, "Justice dear, I'm older than your mind can comprehend, don't unload your achievements on anyone else. This has been entirely your doing". This was the truth, Justice had worked incredibly hard to get where she was, the devil was proud to call the demon her high prosecutor, proud to call Justice her friend. "I have a gift for you", Lucifer handed the red box to Justice. "Think of it as a new addition to your outfit" she smiled, awaiting Justice's reaction to her gift. The confused high prosecutor now opened the light box. Inside there were a pair of padded red fingerless gloves, on the wrists were black initials "HPJ" in a white square, badass. Underneath the gloves there was a red armband, there were two large black X's on the red band, two black lines were on both sides of the X. Justice was speechless.

"Knew you'd like them, High Prosecutor Justice". The demon took the gloves and instantly equipped them, tightening the material and looking at her hands. "These are badass!" she paused beaming at the devil, she added the armband to her outfit and tightened it to fit comfortably on her right arm, it being her stronger arm and dominant hand. She looked at her new outfit and then at the devil, she was grateful for the gifts.

"Thank you Lucy...I will not fail you".

"I know you won't".

"I'll do it for you"

Beelzebub stepped away from his embrace, "I'm not happy with it...but I'll do it". "Thank you B, but how will go about returning it?" he walked over to the kitchen sink to retrieve a glass of water. "Leave that to me big guy", she tried smiling, beginning to exit the kitchen. "Hey, wait" he stopped her before she left the room. He took a quick sip of water and placed the glass on the counter-top. "How come you didn't use Mantus's soul before?" he came and stood closer to the demon. "I'm still an all powerful being without it, I didn't need it to-" "Brainwash me?" he smirked. "Yes that... I didn't use it because I didn't want to loose the only person I care about...again" she was smiling properly now.

"I wonder who that is" he smiled, putting his hands on her hips. He leant in and gave her a deep kiss, Beelzebub instantly leaned into the kiss fully, desperate for the affection, wrapping her arms around his neck, she moaned quietly. Eventually he pulled away, Beelzebub's lips still attached to his own as he drew away, not wanting to separate. "I want things to return to how they were before" her forehead was resting against his, "They will, just give it some time" he whispered. "Ok-kay" she whispered back, reluctantly letting go of him and exiting the kitchen.

"TAKER? CAN YOU HELP US?!" three voice shouted downstairs in unison, shattering the moment. "Coming!" he chuckled. Well at least he knew now...finally, he began walking up the stairs following Beelzebub. "Where do you think you're going?" Lucifer's voice stopped the two in their tracks, she was at the top of the stairs with her arms crossed, stood behind her was a smirking Judgement and a smiling Sadistic Demon. "Uh, oh right" Beelzebub began walking back down the stairs past the Helltaker. "Just tell them what you told me" he tried to sound encouraging to The Warden of Decay, "It will be alright". He looked at the other three demons walking past him, "Please don't hurt her" he said mainly to Judgement and Pandemonica. "No promises" Judgement smirked. Pandemonica gave him a brutal shoulder barge as she passed, knocking him off balance. "Fuck". She didn't bat an eyelid.

"TAKER?!" the three voices shrieked. "I'm coming!" he shouted in reply.

Poor Beelzebub.

Zdrada manifested another polaroid from her pocket dimension, looking at the photo and giggling, applying some glue to the back of the picture and sticking it to the bright yellow paper, she had been wanting to make a scrap book of all the photos she had collected for sometime, she was just too lazy to start it. So far she had completed ten pages, each page having a unique theme. The Bitch Demon was sat laying on her stomach, manifesting the photos and casting them aside or adding them to the scrapbook. There were polaroids scattered all over the floor and her bed, her sister was currently absent from their room.

A knock came from the door, "Who the fuck knocks in this house?" Zdrada said to the stranger knocking, "Someone who cares about privacy smokey" a smiling Justice took that as her cue to enter the room, leaving the door ajar. "Shut the door man!" she shouted at the blind demon. "Alright, sorry dude!" she turned and shut the door. "I don't want anyone finding out about this, not yet anyway", the Bitch Demon tried manifesting another cigarette, "Motherfucker" she clicked her fingers to no end. She leant over to the bedside nightstand, grabbing her vape off of it.

"Don't care about me knowing? Whaddya doin?" Justice's curiosity getting the better of her, she took a step forward, kicking some polaroids as she stepped. "Watch where you're stepping, are you blind or something?!" Zdrada smiling at the blind demon, knowing that she could take her insults. "I'm as blind as much as you are a bitch" Justice smiled back, coming to sit next to Zdrada. She shrugged off the insult. "I'm making a scrap book, I have loads of these polaroids stashed away and thought I'd finally do something productive" she looked down at the giant book, she quickly returned her gaze to the demon sat next to her. For a second she thought she saw a red spark escape from behind Justice's glasses. "Would you like to see?" Zdrada jabbed. "Actually, yeah I would" without hesitation she took off her glasses, her pale eyes becoming a fiery red. "The fuck?!" Zdrada saw this transformation take place, stunned at the colour returning to her long dead eyes.

Justice grabbed the scrapbook firmly and began looking at all the photos she could, she knew she was on a timer. The demon scanned each photo rapidly, they were mostly group pictures of the entire family. The Helltaker was posing with each demon, much to their disgust or delight. She smiled upon seeing the photo of the Helltaker kissing her cheek, they had both been drunk when this photo was taken, his face was red as if caught in the act, her face was even redder.

There was another picture next to the previous one, it was of the Helltaker smiling holding Zdrada, his arm was around her, Zdrada had her eyes closed and was laughing, she was leaning against his chest. There was a heart drawn around this photo in glittering black ink. "Don't look at that one!" Zdrada shouted embarrassed, Justice was already moving onto the next page.

The next page had photos from when the family went to the beach, Zdrada had taken a lot of photos that day. They were mostly of the different demons in their swimsuits and bikinis, Zdrada had tried her best to embarrass them, but the Helltaker had encouraged all of them not be ashamed of their bodies. The Bitch Demon had even included a photo of herself, she looked incredibly embarrassed, the Helltaker had swiped the camera and taken a photo of her as revenge. The photo Justice loved the most was a sunset photo of herself and Judgement who were posing, Justice had her arm around the taller prosecutor, Judgement looked annoyed.

"It looks so beautiful" she was almost moved to tears, forced not to linger. She flipped the page quickly, realising her time was running out. On the next sections there were polaroids of their Halloween parties over the last two years. The Helltaker was dressed in some sort of green armour, a "Doom Slayer" apparently. Lucifer was dressed as a maid, dying of embarrassment. Cerberus were all wearing brown bear onesies, Zdrada and Malina were wearing skeletal outfits and makeup, apparently trying to imitate something called the "Day of the Dead". Azazel was dressed like a demon, Modeus was wearing a very revealing nurse outfit, Pandemonica was wearing a red Hawaiian shirt, there was a large badge on her lapel saying "Retired", Judgement and Justice were both dressed like witches, both unsure what to wear on their first Halloween. Both outfits equally as revealing. More outfits followed for the next year, they really went overboard that year. The last photo was a picture of the Helltaker hugging a smiling Beelzebub, she had fake fly wings attached to her back, she was kissing his cheek. Fucking bitch.

Justice flipped through the last few pages, which were actually the first pages of the scrapbook, containing the oldest photos with a random assortment of newer ones thrown into the bunch; a photo of the Helltaker sleeping on the sofa, they were trying to balance as many crisps on his forehead as possible. The photo Zdrada took of Judgement in her white dress on their date night, a snapshot of Malina in Hell giving the camera the middle finger, there was an image of white chains flying towards the camera, a screaming Judgement in the background. Pandemonica could be seen putting Zdrada into a headlock in one, they were both smiling. A dark image of Cerberus chewing a femur bone was also amoungst the last page.

However, the very last photo Justice saw as her eyes began to become pale was one she recognised. The Helltaker was stood in his red shirt outside the house in the backyard, he had his arms around both Lucifer and Justice. In the background, Zdrada and Malina could be seen. This photo, this freeze frame, she had seen it before...

In another life, the one before the abyss had changed everything. Before she had changed everything.

...

..

.

They looked happy.

"Justice, can you hear me?" Lucifer was desperate, holding onto her high prosecutor's hand. "Justice, if you can hear me, give me a sign". No reply. "Justice, please...", Judgement placed a hand on the devil's shoulder. "Let her rest, at least she is still breathing" she tried to sound as positive as possible. "Save it Judgement" Lucifer shrugged her hand off, also letting go of Justice's. "You think this is easy for me?" the devil turned hostile almost immediately. Judgement stood, standing next to the now blind demon's bedside. The grey demon gestured to an incapacitated Justice, "I fucking know that, It's not easy for me either!" she was baring her sharp canine teeth. "You know nothing about-" Lucifer paused, "about the guilt I carry" her tone turning dark.

"This is hard on all of us, don't play the victim here. You aren't the only one affected!" Judgement had her grey fists clenched, angered by how the CEO was reacting to the situation. "Watch your tone Judgement, you dare talk to me like that?" Lucifer was also now stood glaring at the grey demon, fists also clenched. "I dare" Judgement snarled, the two were about to clash. "Ladies, ladies don't-" Justice groaned and coughed as she sat up in bed, "Don't fight over little old me" she leant against the back of the bed, "I'm still kicking" she smiled turning to face the voices.

The wounded, exhausted and blind demon was looking worse for wear, there were pale white bandages covering her eyes. She had dark red bandages all over her body, covering the most serious wounds. Her side still stung from where Beelzebub's sharp claws caught her. Her horns had been chipped and her tail had been almost cut off. The Hell Priests had tried their best restoring her to full health, trying to remake all of her original features, but these methods took time. Even after everything, she was still smiling.

"Justice, thank go-" Lucifer hesitated before saying his name, "You're okay!" Judgement came over to sit at her bedside. "Of course I am" Justice turned to face where Judgement's voice was originating from. "Well, whatever is left of me is okay" she tried to sound reassuring. "What's the damage like?". "Let me answer that one" a new voice joined the conversation, "Pandemonica. Good to hear your voice" Justice smiled at the sound of approaching footsteps. The Tired Demon came and stood at the foot of injured demon's bed, manifesting her notepad, she began reading off of it: "Shattered ribs, multiple puncture wounds, severe laceration to the left side, complete loss of both ocular organs, partial loss of demon appendages, blood transfusion successful, severe trauma and physco-" Lucifer coughed loudly to stop Pandemonica from reading more.

"They think I've gone bonkers?" Justice stared straight ahead, her face maintaining a weak smile. "It's just talk. When we told them where we found you..." Judgement trailed off. "It doesn't matter, you're alive and safe. That's all that matters", Lucifer was opposite Judgement, both the demons facing Justice. The Blind Demon was now slowly coming to terms with what her new life would be like, the fact that she would be blind, the fact she would now have to rely on others, that she couldn't defend herself properly. Pandemonica looked at her notepad again, "I thought you might like to know, they tried their best at replacing your... eyes, I think you will be pleasantly surprised" she, like Judgement, was trying their best to stay positive.

"Thanks Monica", the smile was now fading from her face. "I couldn't...I tried to-" Justice was trying to summarize her defeat, "I've failed you, Your Highness" she turned her head down in shame. Never before had she failed, she had finally been bested. "If you think I care about your mission more than I do about you, then you are dead wrong", the devil bringing Justice into a gentle hug. "I shouldn't have let you-" she had her chin ontop of Justice's head, the devil only showed emotion when in the company of those she trusted. "I shouldn't have made you thrown your life away like that" the devil was fighting down a sob. As much as Justice was her high prosecutor, she was also her dearest friend. The devil didn't have many people she could truly call friend.

"Don't go getting soft on me Lucy" Justice's muffled voice came from under Lucifer, she had fumbled around the devils body, unsure of where to put her hands. "I'm sure Beelzebub won't find a way out that easily for a long time" Judgement chimed, taking a quick glance at Pandemonica before looking at the two embracing demons. "No, I'm sure she won't" Pandemonica agreed. The demons remained silent for a few minutes, a Hell Priest entered the room unaware of the Queen's presence and quickly exited. He did not want to be a scapegoat today.

"How did you find me?" Justice finally broke the silence, she moved the bandage on her face to sit more comfortably. "Judgement and I, we searched for weeks looking for you. Eventually it was Judgement's bright idea to track the-" she coughed, "the gift I gave you". "The gloves?" Justice asked, "The armband" Lucifer corrected. "How? It's just a piece of cloth". "Justice dear, why do you think I gave it to you in the first place?", the devil was sitting back in her chair now, more relaxed. "Cause it looked cool?" the beginning of a smile formed but it was instantly lost on the blind demon. "It's so much more than an armband. I'll spare you the details" the CEO chuckled.

"Anyway, speaking of which-" Justice struggled to move her hand, she clicked her fingers repeatedly, with great effort she made the armband materialise, "Judgement" she began, leaning forward in bed. "What are you doing?" Lucifer interrupted her, "Slow down there Justice" Judgement smiled, trying to get her friend to lay back down in her bed. "Both of you shut the fuck up and listen", Justice's tone unusually serious. The two demons in question obeyed, Pandemonica was naturally silent, secretly caring for her injured friend more than she showed. "Judgement, I want you to be the next High Prosecutor", Justice held out the armband. The grey demon took the armband in both hands. "I've trained you, I will keep training you. I can't fulfill the mantle of responsibility anymore, but" she stopped to cough, wincing and holding her side. "You can!" the enthusiastic smile returned to the demon's face.

"I-I, do-. I don't know what to say" a gobsmacked Judgement stared in awe at the armband then at Justice. "The Hell Priests aren't going to be happy about this" Lucifer sighed, "Fuck their traditions man, Judgement is more than deserving of the title!" Justice protested. "We will see, I truly can't say" the devil looked over at the still dazed grey demon. "I think we might be looking at Hell's newest defender" Justice smiled encouragingly. "Th-thank you" is all Judgement could say, "Yo-your-"

"Awesome? I know"

"Cerberus quit it! You're getting water everywhere!" a frustrated Helltaker tried his best to bathe a single Cerberus while her sisters were splashing each other. The man sighed, scrubbing her white hair and then pouring warm water over her with the shower head. He still had no idea why the three couldn't clean themselves, he imagined that just like dogs, they only cleaned each other by licking. Something they did often. The man had cleaned Cerberus many times before, just like always they loved it and hated it at the same time, making his job ten times harder.

So far he had cleaned, two out of the three demonic dogs. The third being the most difficult as always, it wasn't helping that her sisters were splashing her and himself. "If you two don't stop splashing, there will be no pancakes for you later" the Helltaker gave them a stern look. This threat succeeded, allowing him to finish cleaning the last one. Lucifer had been watching him from the doorway, holding a basket of dirty laundry to her left hip. She smiled at his struggle against the Triple Demon. When he had threatened them, she couldn't help but laugh, this caught his attention.

"How did it go with B?" he asked, not looking away from pouring water over Cerberus's head. "Better than I thought, she did tell us everything just like you said" Lucifer remained against the doorframe, she was now looking down at her index finger's nail. "You didn't hurt her, did you?" he was almost afraid of the answer. "No, I made sure they didn't" Lucifer spoke truthfully. "So they do listen to m- I mean you" he turned to give a quick smile. "Alright you three, let's get you dry". He swiveled his feet out of the bath and went to retrieve three red towels from a nearby cupboard, "Could you give me a hand Lucy?". "Of course hun" she smiled, placing the basket down. She stepped over and retrieved a towel off of the Helltaker.

"Justice wanted to know when you will be ready for your date" she was placing a towel around one of the Cerberus's head, rubbing profusely.

"As soon as we are done here"

"Justice, you can't just sit in here all day smoking!" a tired and exhausted Modeus squealed, moving into her bedroom and opening a big red curtain to allow the lingering smoke to exit the room. "Why, what's the point? Judgement's off fighting the bad guys, Lucifer's busy stopping a coup. What can I do?" Justice was lying on her bed, blowing smoke into the air above her. There were countless cigarette butts on her countertop or tossed across the room. "If I'm living with you, there are going to have to be some changes!" Modeus protested, beginning to pick up cigarette butts off the floor and materializing them into a red dust.

"Yeah, say that again slowly M" Justice stared at the ceiling, taking another drag of her cigarette. "If I'm living with you?" Modeus was confused, "Yeah, YOU are living with ME, so I can do what I want". "I'm trying to help you! You can't go on like this!" Modeus stomped around the room cleaning, "This room fucking stinks!". Justice finally leant up slightly to look at Modeus, her sunglasses were balancing on her head. "Why do you care? I let you live with me for what, a month? Now you're telling me how to live my life?", a cruel smirk across her face.

Modeus was fuming, "I've had enough!" she grabbed the black ashtray with skulls engraved into it and threw all the ashes and cigarette butts onto Justice's face and torso. The ash clung to her and scattered all over her bed. "The fuck Modeus?" Justice stood up off her bed, brushing her red shirt of the ash that stuck to her. "I can't stand to see you like this!" Modeus had her arms crossed, anger present on the usually calm demon's face. "You're such a fucking nuisance. What are you going to do? Give me my sight back? Because I'm nothin-" she realised what she had just said.

Modeus was beginning to cry, "I'm sorry, Mo... I didn't mean to-" but it was already too late, Modeus had stormed out of the room, slamming the giant door, leaving an upset Justice holding her elbow. You've done it again Justice, you keep pushing everyone you have ever cared about away. "I'm so alone" she whispered to the empty room, she went to lean over the railings of her balcony, the cool air was a refreshing sensation. She sighed deeply, no one would care if you jumped right now her mind whispered. "You're probably right" she spoke to herself, knowing that the fall would most certainly kill her. Before she descended further into depression, a loud noise originated from the door and revived her senses.

She turned, unsure of how to react. Was it Modeus returning? No it couldn't be, she stumbled back inside her room, her arms outstretched to guide her to the door. Once she reached the door she kicked some sort of package on the floor, that wasn't there before. She leant down and fumbled for the package, eventually grasping it in both hands. It was a small box of some sorts, it had a huge note written in braille. Justice had become a master at reading braille, over the past few years of being blind she had nothing else to do. Her fingers quickly scanned over the dots, it read something like this: "Hi Justice, sorry I'm unable to give you this in person, hope you are well. It seems that the Hell Priests have developed a new ability for us demons, especially the blind ones. Lots of love, Lucifer x"

What ability? Justice savagely tore the box in two, a weird circular object landed in her hand. She felt the object with her thumb, it felt familiar somehow. Her fingers traced the distinct lines of a pentagram.

It was Lucifer's sigil.

"You took you're time" they both entered the car and shut the doors simultaneously. "Sorry J, you know how Cerberus are. Couldn't sit still if their life depended on it. He put the keys into the ignition but was unsure of their destination, "So, my blind demon. Where would you like to go?" he turned to look at the demon, but as soon as he turned her lips were already pressing against his. "Steady on" he said between kisses, she stopped and pressed her forehead against his. "I have you for the entire day? Right?" she asked, her eyes closed. "Right" he confirmed, "Good, then let's make it last. I don't want to share you with anyone" she leant in for another kiss. "Take us someplace quiet, somewhere by the sea" she sat back in her chair.

"I think I know a place", he shifted into first gear. He knew of a quiet beach a while away from their home, it had white sand, beautiful rolling sand dunes, a nice view of the-. Why was he taking her to a beauty spot...when she couldn't see. It didn't matter, as long as they were together, somewhere quiet that's all the she really cared about. He would have to do some off-roading, but that was what this car was built for. It would be a long drive, but they had each other and music to fill the time.

"How has your day been so far?" the Helltaker asked, trying his best to make idle chit-chat. "Productive as usual my dude" there was a momentary pause, "That's a lie, woke up, showered, breakfast, was going to do some weights but wandered in on Zdrada instead" the Awesome Demon sighed facing out her window. "A busy day then" he chuckled, "What was Zdrada doing?". "Oh I can't tell you that, it's a surprise". The Helltaker looked at her quickly, "She better not be making another homemade firework" he was already worried, "I don't think we can afford anothe-" he was interrupted by Justice placing a hand on his leg, "Chill out dude, it's a tame little project she is working on. No fire involved". "Well that's a relief".

"I was chatting to Monica just before we left" Justice began, "Oh yeah?". "Yeah, she's been feeling left-out recently, says you don't spend any time with her, very jealous she hasn't been on a date yet", Justice adjusted the air conditioning of the car to blow onto her face. "What? I have. We have coffees together, we both complain about Lucy. We-" he realised that they didn't spend an awful lot of time together. "Oh God, she's right", he followed it up instantly with the start of an excuse: "It's not my fault she-" he stopped speaking, afraid that Justice would relay what he said back to her. "Go on" Justice wouldn't let him stop. He sighed knowing he would receive an earful from her when they got home.

"It's not my fault that she has been the one to break every single one of my fingers, shatter my collarbone, make me loose several teeth and even break my nose. Also why do your tails have to be so sharp?!" he vented. "Call it tough love", Justice chuckled remembering her visit to him at the hospital when Pandemonica had battered him beyond belief, he had taken it like a champ. "Call it anything but love. If someone cared about you, they wouldn't hurt you like that" he protested further. "She has regretted it since, besides those were early days" Justice was trying her best to defend Pandemonica. "I don't know Justice, I took a long look at myself in the mirror when I finally got home. Could have been the make or break point of our little family". "Can you see wh-"

He had to pause his rant, a car that was overtaking them swerved in front abruptly and he was forced to break hard to make room, instinctively his left arm shot out to catch Justice from hitting the dashboard. It was a scary few seconds. "What happened?!" Justice maintained a strong grip on his arm after she collided with it, "Some dick in front of us made me brake suddenly is all. I told you to wear your damn seatbelt, you could have really hurt yourself there" he rested his hand on her thigh. ""You may be 'The Awesome Demon' who doesn't follow rules, but they put seatbelts in a car for a reason", he gave her a concerning look.

"Dude I'm immortal, you kn-" "That only another demon can kill a demon, yes I've heard it plenty of times. I just didn't want you getting hurt is all". Justice's heart melted, had this really been what she was missing all her life? A man to care for her? To love her? She had chain-smoked her days away and so had he, they both had seen conflict too many times to count, they both wore sunglasses. Were they meant for each other? "Anyway, do you see what I mean about Monica? Someone who terrifies you... I don't really want to spend time with someone like that, who can decide whether or not to hurt you, based on how they feel" he confessed, feeling slightly bad. Justice had never thought about it like that, of course all the demons were rough with him, but none of them except Pandemonica had him hospitalised often. Malina and Judgement have both accidentally injured him once, but both the Tired and Sadistic Demon had shown no remorse, often doing it on purpose.

"You know she can't help it. She has finally found someone lower than herself, a human" Justice again trying her best to defend her friend's actions. "A human, maybe that's all I am to her. To all of-" he stopped. "You know you are more than that to me, always will be" Justice began to blush. "Oh really? Tell me Lady Justice, what am I to you?" he flirted, giving her thigh a playful squeeze and then returning it to the wheel. "Well-" she leant over and put her mouth close to his ear, she placed the side of her hand on his temple and whispered to him.

The Truth.

"Alright, we're here", he got out of the driver's side of the car. The warm sun and sea breeze greeting him, Justice came around the car and held firmly onto his hand. She already had her shoes off, her pale toes digging into the warm sand. "Let's walk for a bit, I just want us to be alone. Away from the house, just you, me and the sea". "Nice rhyme" he squeezed her hand beginning to lead them towards the breaking waves. "You deserve some answers to mine, Lucy and Beel's past, ask away" she said, changing the subject drastically. So he did.

As they walked, Justice told him about the entirety of her life: her youth, her aspirations, her journey in becoming high prosecutor, the initiation ceremony, the gifts Lucifer had given, her battle with Beelzebub...

"Jesus, you risked your own life to seal her away?" he stared out at the horizon, "Duty calls" Justice smiled, making herself walk in time with his step. "I'm lost for words. After such a short but intense battle, you both lost...". "I was hoping she would remain trapped there" she faked being annoyed at him, "Yeah...sorry about that" the Helltaker released his hand from Justice's, but she instantly grabbed onto it. "Hey, I was joking. If you trust her, then she can stay". "I do, even after everything she has done, there is a poor, afraid and lonely soul hidden under all that darkness". She admired his sympathy, a trait she only rarely adopted.

She continued her story, talking about her recovery, Modeus moving in with her, her post blindness depression, beating her smoking addiction, her misadventures with Judgement, then the eventual arrival of the man himself. "You were just waiting around that day, waiting for me?" he asked, he was now holding his shoes in his spare hand. "I had a feeling something special was going to happen that day, call it my sixth sense". They were now on their way back to the car, they both wanted to sit down and rest. "Heh, sure Justice. Next thing you'll tell me is you're not actually blind" he joked. "Maybe I will!" she jabbed at his ribs with her elbow.

He let go of Justice's hand, turning to look at the ocean stretching as far as the eye can see. "What do you think Heaven is like Justice?" the question had been weighing heavily on him ever since he promised he would go to Azazel's graduation. "Well, let me tell you" she interlocked her arm with his. "It's a huge house by the coast, where everyone is welcome. There is the man himself who I can't get enough of, he makes us chocolate pancakes each morning. All my friends are there, movie nights and game nights are a weekly occurrence, despite what we inflict upon this man he loves us all unconditionally" she was smiling at him, "He cares for us, he protect us, he is our everything". "Heh, sure sounds like a nice place. Might stay there" he joked.

Once they had returned to the giant black car, they both climbed up onto the bonnet to sit together, the Helltaker's right arm around the Awesome Demon, allowing her to cuddle close to him. For a while they simply sat and listened to the waves crashing, the seabird's distant cries and the gentle wind blowing in the sand dunes behind them. They were happy to be there, happy to be together. After a few minutes, Justice was the one to break the silence. "You remember I told you how I knelt before battle?", "The trademark move of a prosecutor before a battle, let them make the first move" he repeated what she had told him. "Good boy, well before me and Beelzebub went at it, those new powers Lucy gave me did something".

"Oh? What's that then?" he looked at the demon leaning comfortably into him, "It let me see the future, you know what I saw?" she turned to look him in the eye. He remained silent, very sure he already knew the answer.

"I saw us, I saw our family. From then on, I knew that whatever pain, whatever hardships, whatever problems I would make for myself would be worth it..."

She kissed his cheek, moving to whisper in his ear.

"I'll never let you go..."

Longgggggggggggg, I'm so tired after writing this :)
