A/N: I would like to thank everyone that added this story to their favourites and follows as well as everyone that reviewed the last chapter.
Their cakes are delicious.
Naruto closed her eyes as she took another bite of her castella cake. When Kyoko suggested that they meet in this pastry shop, she wanted to protest but then she recalled the fact that her classmate and her friend would need some comfort. I'm not known for being comforting. She sighed and looked down at her cake before looking back at the two girls.
The two girls kept flickering their eyes from their cakes to her, looking so nervous that it made her let out another sigh. Should she just start the conversation? Or should she wait for them to talk? If she had to judge from the way they keep glancing at each other and the sweat on their forehead, it would be a good idea for her to start the whole conversation.
"Your brother was just a casualty," Naruto finally began. She swirled the fork around her fingers, blue eyes completely blank as she took another bite of her cake. It was sweet, not the kind that she would usually like, but it really was delicious. Then again it was not a habit for her to eat cake, not when she preferred food over sweets.
She licked the crumbs off from the fork and observed the girls in front of her. Their wide eyes told her of how shocked they were for her to just go straight to the point. Naruto took another bite of her cake. She could guess they expected her to try and ease them into the topic, but what was the point of her easing them into it? She would rather be straight-forward to them.
"Why?" Kyoko asked. The girl looked down at her cake before staring at her with confusion. Naruto picked up her hot mocha and looked to Haru. The brown-haired girl looked at her with wide eyes filled with so much horror. It seemed like the girl was still processing what she just told the golden-brown haired girl.
Naruto inhaled and took a sip of her mocha. I should order coffee next time. She wrinkled her nose and closed her eyes as she tried to think of how to explain the reason. She could lie to them but it would make her no better than Kyoko's brother. But I will get the headache from Sawada. She curled her lips into a grimace. Would it be worth it? She could always point out the facts to him.
Besides, he would thank her later.
"It is because of Sawada," Naruto answered. Two sets of eyes widened at her words and the blonde took another bite of her cake. She should further explain but it would be a good idea for them to process her words. Should I buy some sweets for Hibari? She hummed and tried to picture her ally eating cakes before dismissing the idea.
Hibari was like the predator that he claimed to be and that meant he preferred meat over sweets. Unless I can find meat-flavor sweets, it is better for me to not buy something that he won't eat. Another sigh escaped her lips and the blonde lowered her fork before looking again at the two females in front of her. They still stared at her with wide eyes.
"What do you mean?" Kyoko finally asked. The calmness in her tone made the blonde raise her eyebrows. The lack of surprise or any emotions was something that made the whiskered girl knit her eyebrows together. Most people would raise their tone, deny her words but the girl was accepting her words without a question.
It was the opposite of Haru. The brown-haired girl kept shaking her head, looking at her with denial, and Naruto only looked up at the ceiling. Either Kyoko is really naïve or she has a stronger steel backbone than I give her credit. It could be a mixture of both. She did not know how to feel about it but the blonde guessed she should be relieved that the girl was not calling her a liar.
"Sawada is going to be the leader of a Mafia Family," Naruto answered. She clasped her hands together and rested her head over hands. There was alarm in Kyoko's eyes and the girl glanced at Haru. Between the three of them, only her classmate had been left in the dark of the kind of future that Tsuna would have. "The Vongola Familigia is a very powerful Mafia family or so Reborn would brag."
She allowed the words to hang in the air as Kyoko processed the words spilled by her. This will probably determine the future of her friendship with Sawada. The thought made her sigh and the blonde observed the girl. Would she be furious with Tsuna for putting her brother in this state of danger? Or was she willing to listen to what happened? Most people would automatically blame Tsuna for what happened to their sibling.
It was rather hard for her to predict with Kyoko when the girl acted like an airhead outside of their classes. But she is the only one in our class who has never called Sawada by the nickname Dame-Tsuna. She rubbed her chin and inspected the girl. The reason she never called Tsuna by that terrible nickname because she knew how hurtful labels could be.
It was a wonder about Kyoko.
"Tsuna-kun is going to be apart of the Mafia…but he doesn't look or act like someone that is going to enter a dangerous job," Kyoko finally said. Her voice was filled with confusion while Haru relaxed her shoulders. Naruto, on the other hand, took a sip of her drink. The girl was accepting it and denying it at the same time. It was a wonder if you asked her.
She hadn't been this accepting when she found out about Sawada's truth. Maybe there is some hope for her but only if Kyoko shows that steel backbone more often. The blonde could almost see herself getting along with the girl if she showed the little hints that she had seen in Mochida's battle. But then again she disliked airheads.
"He isn't getting the job because he is suitable, he is getting the job because he is the last choice," Naruto finally explained. Kyoko nodded while Haru's brown eyes widened at those words. It was not a well-known fact but it was better for her to put it out there. When Tsuna found out that she told his crush and his friend the truth, he would be relieved to know that she did clarify that it was not his choice.
It would make it easier for her to milk money out of him without Tsuna using this against her.
"What does that have to do with the attacks on the other students from your school?" Haru asked. Her eyebrows knitted together and the brown-eyed girl looked to Kyoko. The golden-brown haired girl kept her eyes focused on her own cake, shoulders hunched up as if she was deeply thinking about something. In a way Naruto guessed the girl was considering everything that was coming out of her mouth.
The blue-eyed girl took another sip of her mocha and looked at the two girls. Now we are getting to the part that explains how Sasagawa's brother came to be a casualty. She grimaced as the memories from a few weeks ago flashed before her eyes. The attacks made her realize just how weak she was against illusions and brought her closer to Hibari.
She did not know whether she should be grateful for Mukuro in that sense or be furious for what that Pineapple did to her. He wounded her pride by being able to defeat her so easily. But it allowed her to get closer to Hibari and allowed her the chance to observed Tsuna getting stronger. There was also the fact that she was getting Lancia too.
"The guy who attacked Ryohei-senpai was someone who was trying to find Sawada," Naruto explained. The two girls knitted their eyebrows, looking baffled at how that could work. She pinched her nose. How was she going to explain everything to them? She did not know how Mukuro was able to get a list of ranking. It was also rather odd that Reborn had the same list when she thought about it.
But Reborn was noisy and so it should not be a surprise that he had a list. She took a deep breath and stared at the two females. Both of them kept looking at her like they were waiting for her to continue explaining. I guess it is rather unclear. Naruto exhaled and took another bite of her cake as she thought about how to further explain things.
"Not many people know Sawada is going to become the Boss of the Vongola Familigia." She took another deep breath and took another sip of her drink before looking back at them. "Since he couldn't attack him directly. The guy attacked the strongest people in the school in the hopes of getting Sawada's attention. Your brother only got attack because of this."
Kyoko and Haru nodded and Naruto twirled her fork around. The two girls kept glancing at each other as if they were debating about asking her another question. Perhaps they did not like the way she was spilling the information but being gentle was not her thing. Being playful was a possibility but she only found herself being playful around Hibari.
Being gentle was impossible for her.
"Is this going to happen again?" Kyoko asked. Her golden eyes pleaded for her to tell her the truth and Naruto took another sip of her hot mocha. It was rather funny how the girl was different from Tsuna. The boy would have begged for her to lie to him, just so he could pretend that he would have a normal life.
Since she had no problem of telling the truth to Tsuna and the boy did not want to know the truth. It is only fair, I tell her the truth when she actually wants an honest answer. The blonde took in a deep breath and poked her tongue against her cheeks, before looking down at her own drink and her cake. She guessed it would be a good idea for her to be blunt about this.
"I don't know," Naruto answered. "The Mafia is no joke and there is always a chance that someone will attack them again. Now since I told you, the two of you will start paying me back tomorrow. I expect the two of you to come to the forest tomorrow for some training."
With those words, she placed her drink down and walked out before the two girls could protest against her words. She had done her job and she would explain the aspects of their roles tomorrow during their training. Now I have an ally to pass on some information. If it were not for the fact that took priority, she would explain more to them.
She hoped Hibari was not taking a nap.
I almost feel guilty for waking him up but he can't always sleep on the couch…even in his own home.
The sight of Hibari lightly snoring and napping on the couch of his living room brought a little smile on Naruto's lips. She should feel a little bit guilty for breaking into his house but she knew he would want to hear what she had to tell him. If she forgot about it then the boy would be upset if he found out that she knew about it.
A tiny sigh escaped her lips and Naruto took a seat on top of Hibari. She allowed herself to rest on top of his legs and waited patiently for her partner to wake up. A little laugh escaped from her lips when she heard the little groan coming out from his lips. If she had to guess from the groan then it sounded like he was awake now.
Grey eyes met her own and Naruto blinked when the boy pulled her close to his chest. Were they going to cuddle? She did not mind cuddling but she never pictured Hibari as someone who liked a cuddle. Maybe he is not. She could see his eyes fixating on her lips and the way his eyebrow was raised at her.
"Little Fox, what brings you to my den?" Hibari asked. His breath tickled her face and Naruto felt herself shivering at the dangerous tone in his voice and the darkening of his grey eyes. She placed her hands on the arms of the couch and pushed herself up, not allowing herself to press her chest against him.
She lowered her head and sighed when the boy's hand wandered up to her orange hair tie. He tugged it, removing her hair from the tightness of the hair tie and acting as a curtain between them. The tension on her head faded away when he did it and Naruto allowed herself to look down at the stormy grey eyes.
Those stormy grey eyes focused on her eyes, looking so curious to know for the reason that she snuck into his house. I think if I was anyone else, he might just hit them. The thought amused her and the blonde smiled even wider. She leaned back and looked down at her curious partner.
"Well I'm definitely not here to play," Naruto answered. She could almost hear the excitement leaking out of her voice and the curiosity in Hibari's eyes at her declaration. There was no disappointment in his eyes, telling her that he was definitely more curious to know of what was the reason for her coming to his house.
Hibari held her waist, stopping her from moving away from him, and his grey eyes fixated on her own blue eyes. Those grey eyes inspected her as if he was trying to figure out the reason for her appearance in his house. His hand rubbed her back. She allowed a sigh to escape from her lips at the wonderful feel of his heated hands on her back.
"If you didn't come to play then what does the Little Fox desire?" He asked. A shiver erupted from her back and the whiskered girl cursed the male for having a voice that could make any girl squirm. Even if his voice was dripped with temptation, Naruto was going to keep her mind focused on the task at hand.
She placed her hands on top of his chest and closed her eyes. The silence between them was comfortable, despite the fact she was deeply aware that there were only two of them in the house. Only two of them. No adults to supervise them and that made her heart race a little bit. She knew nothing was going to happen between them.
With work on her mind, Naruto was not going to focus on how they were the only two people in the house.
"Who says it is the Little Fox who has desires?" Naruto asked softly as she lowered her body. Grey eyes darkened and the boy leaned forward, only to scowl when she placed her finger against his lips. "I have news that the Skylark would desire."
"Oh?" Hibari asked. His grey eyes looked almost molten and the blonde blinked when the boy tilted her head up. No matter how many times she stared into his eyes, there was no denying that his eyes could hypnotized her. He watched her, looking almost faintly amused by her behavior, and she cleared her throat. "And what type of news?"
"And why should I tell you anything if you aren't going to make an offer?" Naruto asked, allowing her eyes to trace his facial features. No annoyance clouded his eyes, only amusement shone through his eyes. She was glad that the older boy was not annoyed that she had no plans to change her habits. "You know I won't tell you anything for free."
There was no need for her to change her habits just because the nature of their relationship changed.
"And what does My Little Fox want?" Hibari asked. His hand rubbed her chin and his grey eyes focused on her, telling her that he would give her what she wanted if the information was very important to him. She hummed and shivered while her hand wandered to his own chest, rubbing it as her mind tried to think of a reasonable desire.
Money was no longer an issue for her but she did have a pain of a neck at home.
"Even though the school year is going to end in two weeks, I wanna borrow your house during my second year," Naruto admitted as she let out a content sigh. A small hopeful smile played on her lips and Hibari hummed, looking almost like he was deeply considering her words. "Jiraiya is a pain in the neck and instead of letting me study, he has been asking me to correct his books."
Hibari nodded and looked down at her. No words were spoken between them as he continued to stroke her chin. She was not going to give him any more information if he did not choose to accept her wish or deny it. Was she asking for too much? Maybe. But his house was probably the best place for her to do work.
"Tell me the information, Little Fox," Hibari said, grey eyes locking down on her. The lack of emotion did not faze her nor did she immediately presume her ally had accepted her offer. She knew it was never going to be that easy. Tell me the information and if I find the information adequate then I will consider it. That was what she understood from his words.
She sighed.
"Do you recall the fuss made during the Summer Festival last year?" She asked. Hibari's eyebrows twitched and Naruto knew the older boy did indeed recall the fuss. I think he lost so much money from the thievery. Most people would say the boy was acting like a member of the Yakuza with his demand of the placement fee, but Naruto saw it as reasonable.
The festival was made on his family property and he did a good job of protecting the town. There was also the fact Hibari needed funds for the Disciplinary Committee. Selling cupcakes and pizza is not something he would do. That was one of the main reasons the boy put a placement fee on the stands.
"You know who are the robbers." The bloodlust in his voice brought a shiver down her spine and the hairs of her back stood up as grey eyes sharpened at her implication. It was probably not the kind of sight that should make her toes curled but it did. Maybe it was because she liked the danger in his voice.
She bobbed her head. "Is that reason enough for you to accept my offer?"
Hibari looked almost faintly amused by her question as if he thought her offer was too light for what she planned to give him. Knowing the older boy, it was probably too light of an offer. Those robbers had been a pain of a neck to him, always evading him or the members of the Disciplinary Committee. Not because they were slow but because of the masks they wore.
"I will let you into my den when you need to study," he answered. His hands began to rub circles around her back. She knew from his heated grey eyes that this was an added bonus from the information that was going to come out from her mouth. A content sigh escaped from her lips as her mind became numb.
Was it always so good to be touch? Or was it because it was Hibari? She had never been touched like this before. No one had offered to massage her back but then again she did offer news that the boy had been searching for the last couple of months. She allowed herself to melt and lowered herself back to his chest.
"From what my informant told me, they are a bunch of students from Namimori High School," Naruto informed him as the boy continued to rub circles around her back. His thumb pressed deeply onto her lower back, making her arch her back and the blonde bit back a little groan. "T-They are members of the boxing club."
Hibari's lips twitched into a smirk and the blonde looked away as her cheeks burned a bright shade of red. He is finding creative ways of getting under my skin. She should be annoyed but it made her lips twitched. Even though the boy could never be someone who liked to cuddle or even be someone that vocalized his affections, this way of showing his affection to her was nice.
"It is nice for you while it is a nightmare for me to witness," a masculine voice grumbled. "Why must I always be forced to endure this with hormonal Uzumakis? Why can't there be an asexual Uzumaki!"
"I'm not hormonal!" She growled to the voice as her blue eyes shifted to Hibari. The boy stopped massaging her back and she wondered if she spoke those words out loud. Judging from the way Hibari's eyelids were dropping, it was safe for her to presume that the boy did not hear those words. If anything she had to guess that he was sleepy.
Shaking her head, Naruto removed herself from the older teen and looked at him. It was strange for her to have so many desires and even stranger for her to have someone who did not mind her desires. I guess it is because we know each other. The thought made her smile and Naruto pecked Hibari on the lips.
"Little Fox?" Are you leaving? That was what she could infer from the tone and the way Hibari kept flickering his eyes from her to the door. She paused. Should she stay and watch him sleep? They could always have a spar when he woke up and watch a movie. It would be better than her going back home and correcting Jiraiya's reports or his books.
She would rather spend time with Hibari than deal with Jiraiya.
"Go back to sleep," Naruto answered softly as she took a seat on the armchair. "When you wake up, we can watch a movie and…I will see if I can whip up some food for us."
It was strange just how comfortable she was around him.
"The team from Konoha will arrive in three weeks, Naruto."
Naruto did not look away from her chess board as Haku moved his queen. She could tell from Jiraiya's tone that he was concern for her. She knew if she just looked away from the board and focused on her mentor then she would see his eyes looking at her with worry. Worry that he should not focus on.
What was the big deal of the team? It would not be her job to take care of them. That duty would fall on her mentor. She was going to spend her time working, training her recruits, patrolling and hanging out with Hibari. There was no need for him to be concern. If anything he should worry of how to make sure that team did not mess up.
"That is around the holiday before I'm starting my second year in Middle School," Naruto commented lightly. She picked up the pawn and inspected carefully. It would be three years since she ran away from Konoha when she thought about it. Two years since she met Hibari in her fox mask.
She moved the pawn forward and darted her eyes to her godfather. The Toad Sannin looked at her, almost looking nostalgic by her words, and it dawned to her that it had been seven months since he came into her life. It was strange. Seven months ago, she had been mostly alone in this small town.
"That is good," Jiraiya commented lightly. She could hear the hesitance in his voice and the blonde looked at Haku. The brown-haired teen looked just as confused as her, earning a frown from the blonde. She swirled her head at the Toad Sannin and raised a single eyebrow at him. "I expect you to teach them how to blend in the Outside."
You want me to do what? Naruto froze and swirled her head at her godfather while Haku moved his chess piece forward. He did not expect her to waste her holiday to help a team of arrogant shinobi, did he? She was not someone who had free time. She still had a part-time job to focus on. There was training for her to focus on. Not just her own training but Haku, Kyoko and Lambo's training as well.
The lack of smile on his face told her that Jiraiya was not kidding about this. He actually expected her to do this. I have no obligation to help them. The words were on the tip of her tongue, ready for her to whip at it to him. Nope. She had to control her temper. If she made one wrong move than Jiraiya could use it against her later.
"Are you going to pay me to teach them to blend in?" Naruto asked, keeping her tone as calm as she could. Her blue eyes sharpened and the older male gulped. He could probably realize that she was not in the mood to amuse him. The widening of his eyes told her that he was surprised she would make such a demand.
She looked back at her chessboard and inspected the pieces Haku had. I can think of several ways Haku can beat me. Her eyes wandered to the format and an idea formed in her mind. She moved her rook and then looked to her mentor. The white-haired man was still focusing on her chessboard.
"Can't you do your mentor a favor?" Jiraiya asked.
Naruto sighed.
"I'm doing you a favor," she said dryly as Haku took his time to analyze the pieces. Her blue eyes darted to her godfather, who looked baffled by her words. "I should have been demanding that you pay me for rent, groceries and correcting your reports as well as your smut works."
The middle-aged man gawked while the brown-haired teen chuckled at her words. It was not amusing. It was by her good grace that she decided not to demand things from him. Yes, he mentored her but Naruto did not see the benefit outweigh what he asked her to do. Nothing could make up for what he asked her.
No words came out from Jiraiya's words and Naruto looked to her godfather. There was a thoughtful look in his eyes as if he was contemplating her words. Was he going to protest even though her words were true? Rent was no joke alongside her groceries. The fact he made her correct his works without being paid was just plain wrong.
"How much do you want, Naruto?" Her godfather asked. Naruto tapped her fingers against her chin and looked back at her chess board. Haku still had not moved a piece, leaving her enough time for her to think of the price that she wanted from her godfather. I should make it ridiculously high. With how famous his books were and the amount of missions he completed, she knew he would be able to pay the price.
This was the price that she needed to control her temper and emotions when she met the team from Konoha.
"¥7,000,000."
The number hung in the air and Naruto could see her godfather calculating the price in the currency of their part of the world. His eyes widened and his face paled. She found the price to be reasonable. Considering the hell she went through, he was lucky that she did not demand for even more money.
"Naruto, can't you—"
"—You are asking me to teach a bunch of shinobi who will disrespect the shit out of me," she pointed out. Jiraiya stared at her and grimaced, not daring to contradict her words. Haku stared at her with concern and the blonde took in a deep breath, trying to regin in the emotions that threatened to consume her. "The moment they know it is me training them, you can bet your ass that they will insult me."
Jiraiya sighed. "If you do a good job, I will pay you."
I'll do a fucking good job and if they insult me, I will include the insults into the price.
She had to get some benefit from wasting some of her precious time with them.
A/N: So not even Jiraiya is spared from Naruto's desire for money and poor Kurama. Here are a couple of questions for you:
Question number 1: Who do you think will be the first to figure out the change in Naruto and Hibari's relationship?
Question number 2: What do you think of the character interactions throughout the whole story?
Please review and tell me of your thoughts about the chapter.
