I finally got the fanfiction app, man is this thing really cool and helpful so whenever I get an idea I can just write it down as a document and know where to look for it. Pretty snazzy, I could have used this a while ago, it'll help when I'm out doing life stuff.
Maura and Jane had decided that Rockefeller Center was close enough to their hotel, and there was still some sunshine out so it felt pretty safe to walk. Later when they went back they would probably get a cab just to be safe. Maura's arm stayed linked with Jane's their whole walk. Maura's mind couldn't stop thinking about her conversation with Hope. It was affecting her more than she wanted it to be bothering her on their vacation. Jane had noticed Maura was being quiet on their walk, she hated Hope for how she reacted to Maura's news. She kept on thinking how Maura didn't have the best parental figures in her life, Jane might have been annoyed by her own mother wanting to be around, but after thinking about how Maura's life had been she was grateful she had a nagging mother like Angela.
"Maur, are you sure that you're okay?"
"Jane, can you please stop worrying about it, I'm fine, okay?" Maura sighed and Jane frowned, she stopped walking. Maura looked up at Jane. "Okay look, I'm not okay, but I-I can't let whatever happen ruin my vacation with you, I have been looking forward to it since I planned the whole thing."
"I just, I'm worried babe, can't blame me for that, can you?"
Maura slumped her shoulders, "I supposed that I can't, you know you're a lot alike to your mother than you like to believe. Knowing that I have the love from your family brings me joy, but I can't help the neglect I've always felt with my family. I have a lot of conflicted feelings, I guess I'll always have doubts or feel like I don't belong somewhere."
"I think we were meant to find each other Maura, you finally found a place you can feel like you belong, and I've grown to appreciate my overbearing mother. I have doubts about things too at times, but then I just think about all the good things I have going for me. Like you," Jane smiled, squeezing her arm.
Maura smiled warmly at her fiancee, "I like how you can be such a sap around me, it's quite endearing, and sweet," she leaned up to press a soft kiss against Jane's lips, Jane rested her hand on Maura's hip. The kiss lasted only for a little bit before Jane pulled back.
"We should finish walking, I can see we are almost there," Jane reached to grab Maura's glove covered hand. She squeezed Jane's hand as they finished their walk.
When they got there Maura paid for their ice skates, and they found a bench to go put them on at.
"You know I'm not sure the last time I went ice skating, or well skated on ice on purpose," Jane told Maura.
"I've been a few times, mine have all been on purpose though."
Jane playfully rolled her eyes, "You know Maura, nobody likes a show off."
"You sure didn't mind me showing off my body earlier," Maura whispered in her ear.
"One that's different and two, come on don't be a tease," Jane whined, tying up her laces, she stood up grabbing onto Maura's shoulder.
Maura looked at her in amusement, "Jane, we haven't even gotten on the ice yet, you can't honestly be that clumsy already."
Jane looked at Maura, her jaw dropping, "Wow Maur, I'm hurt," she placed a hand over her heart. "I'll get you back for that Maura Isles, mark my words," she threatened with a smile.
"I'd love to see you try."
"I'm glad you find this amusing, just wait babe, you'll see," Jane tapped Maura lightly on her butt, before grabbing her hand and pulling her towards the ice. She stood on the edge for a moment, the size intimidating Jane just a little bit. "There's a lot of ice to skate on."
"Big bad Jane scared of some ice," Maura stepped on the ice and looked to face Jane. "See it's not that bad."
Jane shook her head and went onto the ice, keeping her balance. She immediately grabbed Maura by the arm, "Well looks like the only one going to make a fool on the ice is me." Jane moved a little bit and Maura grinned at her.
"I guess we're just going to have to see about that," Maura kept herself close to Jane as they slowly started to skate, Jane stayed by the edge of the wall just in case. They slowly made a few laps around the rink before Jane had gotten some confidence and she had finally let go of Maura. Jane barely went forward by herself once she slipped on the ice. Her world came crashing down, along with Maura who tripped over her.
They both glance at each other before they laughed at what just happened. "Well that wasn't exactly how I planned to get you back," Jane looked over at Maura. "I just planned to pull you down with me the first time I fell, not have you trip over me. Can you help me get back up?"
"Oh no Jane, you're not going to get me to fall for that," Maura stood up with ease, looking down at Jane.
"Aww come on now, I wouldn't do it after I already told you what I wanted to do... Don't you trust me?" Jane asked her with a pout.
Maura put her hand on her hips, "I don't think I trust you with this. I'm sorry babe but you're going to have to get up on your own."
"Well that's just straight up cruel Miss Isles."
"Now wait a minute, I thought it was Doctor Isles?" Maura raised her eyebrow.
"Only if you help me up," Jane smirked and Maura pouted.
"Fine but if this is a trick Jane Rizzoli, just watch out. I have ways to punish you."
"Hmm, that sounds kinky," Jane laughed, but noticed the serious look on Maura's face. "Fine, I'll be serious." Jane held out her hand for Maura to grab. She used the wall to help hoist her up. When she was standing up straight Jane looked at Maura. "I think someone owes me an apology."
"Fine, Jane Rizzoli... I'm sorry," Maura paused. "...I'm sorry that you are a clumsy ice skater," she ended with a smirk before skating off.
"Hey, that's not what I meant!" Jane skated after her, and grabbed her by the hand, Maura spun around and looked at Jane with the biggest smile on her face. "You're such a jerk," Jane shook her head, Maura's smile was very contagious. Jane pressed Maura lightly against the wall. "Now apologize like you mean it."
"Okay," Maura grabbed Jane by the waist pulling them close together. They heard a few skaters whistle at them once Maura's lips were on Jane's, they pulled back both faces flush. "Even complete strangers are happy for us."
Jane noticed the glimpse of sadness on Maura's face at her words, even though she still smiled. Jane leaned over and kissed Maura gently on the lips. "I feel like some hot chocolate, what do you say we take a break and get some?"
Maura nodded, "Yeah that sounds good. Sorry about all the teasing."
Jane just looked at her for a moment, "You were having fun babe, I quite enjoyed it. Even if I still think you're a jerk," she smiled warmly at Maura.
family sorrows still very much on Maura's mind, but man was this chapter fun to write with them skating and Maura teasing Jane. God I love their relationship... until next time my friends, leave some more of your kind words
