"Skyclan have hunted on our territory for too long. Tonight, that ends." Moonstar called from the highledge, her voice raised with righteous anger. Her clan called their approval, and she smiled, and leapt down from the ledge. She scanned her clan from the ground, pondering on who'd she bring for the battle patrol. Emberlight, obvious. Her entire plan rested on her.

She was disrupted from her pondering by Bramblewing, who coughed loudly. Mintpaw scuttled up next to her, and she offered him a friendly smile, which he didn't quite return.

Bramblewing met her gaze with a scathing glare, and Moonstar shivered. "You could have asked us first." She said, her tone light, but her expression anything but.

Moonstar shrugged her off. "I'm leader. I don't need to ask." She mewed simply.

Bramblewing sighed. "You're also my aunt, and you're his mother. There's cats who care about you, you know." She said gently. Moonstar's fur prickled at that.

"I know that. Why do you think we're fighting?" She mewed, not aggressively, but with a note of warning in her mew.

Bramblewing blinked. "Cats may die." She murmured.

"Something they signed up to do." Moonstar retorted.

Mintpaw spoke up, his green eyes shaded with worry. "Are you sure they've been on our territory?" He asked.

Moonstar nodded grimly. "I wouldn't be doing this if I wasn't." She lied smoothly.

Timeskip.

Moonstar wasn't one to wait around. She'd spotted the nearest Skyclan patrol, marched up to them, and promptly told them that they'd been 'hunting on our territory for too long'. The patrol leader had narrowed her eyes, and quietly sent an apprentice off back to camp. Moonstar knew that she didn't have long, and she leapt forward, her own patrol streaming behind her.

"Thunderclan! Attack!" She howled.

She didn't bother attacking Skyclan. They were only there as a distraction. She jumped straight for Emberlight, dragging her sister into the bushes.

Emberlight spun around, panting. "M-moonstar? What are you doing?" She asked, her voice trembly. Moonstar curled her lip, and tried to look self-important.

"Just come with me." She snapped, walking off. Emberlight trailed after her, and Moonstar had to suppress a smirk. She'd fallen for it, just like she'd thought she would.

"O-okay." Emberlight mumbled.

Moonstar padded on, walking a few paces in front of Emberlight. She looked around, admiring the way that the light of the sun dappled the earth, the way that the voices sounded pleased. She turned to Emberlight, smiling slightly.

"The vision's gone in that eye now." She mewed conversationally. Emberlight narrowed her eyes.

"I'm sorry." She muttered, looking away. Moonstar smirked, and continued.

"I don't have an apprentice anymore, did you know that?"

Emberlight's head snapped up at that. "She was my daughter, do you think I don't know that?" She hissed. Moonstar didn't flinch.

"And Sharpgaze." Moonstar continued. Emberlight's fur bristled, and she stopped in her tracks, whirling around to face Moonstar.

"What is this? What are you doing?" She snarled.

Moonstar met her icy amber gaze. "Doing what they want me to do. Get my revenge." She said dully.

"Revenge for what?" Emberlight asked.

Moonstar looked around, and smiled at the shadowy figures who were looking at her, with approval in their empty eyes."For me. For Finchpaw. And for Sharpgaze."

"Moonstar. They were all accidents." Emberlight mewed slowly, backing away.

Moonstar calmly advanced on her, causing her sister to flinch violently. "No. They were you. They were all your fault." She said, malice creeping into her voice.

Emberlight stumbled away from her. "You're scaring me. Look, we need to go and fight…" She said, her voice trembling.

"Why would we fight?" Moonstar asked, unsheathing one huge paw, and cleaning her claws with her tongue.

Emberlight narrowed her eyes. "Because Skyclan have been stealing from us! Unless…" She trailed off, understanding entering her eyes. Moonstar smirked. She'd been so gullible. They all had. The whispers were right.

"You'd be right. They haven't." Moonstar told her, her voice smug, and self-satisfied.

Emberlight just stared at her, her jaw hanging open. "What's gotten into you?" She hissed.

Moonstar sighed, and looked back at Finchpaw and Sharpgaze. "The words of Starclan." She murmured, reverently dipping her head to her kin. They didn't return the gesture.

"T-that isn't Starclan. Starclan would never want you to threaten your sister." Emberlight said, looking just past her, like she wanted to run. Moonstar smirked, and moved to block her off.

"Who said I'd just threaten you?" She asked quietly. Emberlight looked at her, her eyes round with horror, and fear. It was exactly how Moonstar had felt when she'd experienced every horrible thing Emberlight had put her through.

"No-no… no. You wouldn't. I'm your sister." Emberlight whispered.

"The sister who let that hawk attack me. The sister who let her father die. The sister who let her own daughter go to war." Moonstar said, her tone quiet. Emberlight shook, and wilted under her gaze.

Emberlight looked up at her, shrunk in on herself. "St-stop. C'mon, Moon." She murmured, and Moonstar froze, suddenly doubtful. She looked at her paws, unsteady. Moon… it had been so long since her sister had called her that…

flashback

"C'mon, Moon! First one to the fresh-kill pile gets the squirrel!" Emberkit called, prancing past Moonkit to the fresh-kill pile. Lilyflower nudged Moonkit forward, and she took off running, racing after her sister.

"I'll beat you, you slow slug!" She called out joyfully, paws pounding the dusty ground of the camp.

Emberkit grinned at her. "Really?" She teased, darting forward. Moonkit panted, and ran after her, before stumbling over a tree root. She watched as Emberkit reached the fresh-kill pile, posing triumphantly next to the squirrel. She hauled herself off the ground, and set off after her, sitting down heavily.

"No fair! I tripped." She huffed. Emberkit blinked at her.

"You can have some squirrel if you want…" She offered, and Moonkit grinned.

"Thanks, Emberkit. You're the best." She said, smiling at her sister. Emberkit returned her smile warmly, and nosed the squirrel towards her.

Vague, foggy voices echoed in Moonpaw's ears. She sighed, and instantly flinched from the sheer pain in her eye, on her sides. She couldn't make out her surroundings, indeed, she could hardly move. "She'll be able to see again, right?" A voice said, and Moonpaw recognised it as her sister. She gasped, and tried to sit up, but a gentle paw pushed her back down again.

"Not out of that eye Emberpaw. Not really." Ravenwing's soft voice mewed. She heard a sound of quiet surprise from Emberpaw, and she tried to rise again, wanting to console her sister, wanting to do something, anything.

"It's-its my fault, isn't it?" Emberpaw mewed, and Moonpaw wanted to agree.

Ravenwing sighed. "No. It's the hawk that attacked your sister, not you." She said.

Moonpaw drifted out of consciousness then, but for the next few days, her sister stayed by her side, never moving. Just watching her, eagle-eyed, making sure no harm came to her.

"Sheeppaw's sweet, isn't he?" Emberpaw teased, flicking Moonpaw in the side with her tail.

"Sweet for a fur-brain." Moonpaw mewed. It was the day after their shared gathering, and Emberpaw was being insufferable.

Emberpaw's gaze turned serious. "If you do like him, I'm not going to stop you. Really. I didn't mean what I said."

Moonpaw just sighed in response.

"He's gone. He's gone, and he's never coming back, thanks to you." Moonscar spat, her face twisted into a ugly snarl. Emberlight just nodded.

"You're right. I killed him."

"You admit it?" Moonscar hissed. Emberlight nodded again, and hunched over. Strangely, Moonscar didn't feel satisfied by her admission. She just felt tired.

"I told her she could go on that patrol, you know."

"I know you did." Moonstar replied, her voice dull with grief.

Emberlight blinked at her. "You-you're not mad at me?"

Even though everything in Moonstar's body was screaming at her to say yes, she shook her head. And that was all Emberlight needed to come forward, and press into her.

Present day.

"You won't hurt me." Emberlight said, meeting her gaze. "You wouldn't."

Moonstar stared at her, her legs shaky. She didn't know if she could. She looked at her sister, and opened her mouth, but no words came out. Emberlight raised her chin, defiance blazing in her amber eyes.

"Do it." She whispered. "I deserve it."

And Moonstar wasn't quite sure if she did.
