A week later and Jay and Hailey still couldn't bring themselves to tell Drew that they wanted to adopt a baby. He'd had better days at school, but neither was ready to bite the bullet and let him in on their plan.

"Maybe this is a sign that we shouldn't adopt," Hailey sighed and brushed her fingers through her hair.

Jay shook his head, "I haven't stopped thinking about that baby boy and I know you feel the same."

"Yeah," Hailey breathed and slipped her shirt on.

Jay grabbed her waist and kissed her forehead, "Maybe we should just do it today."

"It wouldn't be the worst idea," Hailey said.

Jay stepped out of their bathroom and looked out the windows, "Remember when we used to spend our days off in bed all day?"

Hailey laughed, "I do."

"Let's do that today," Jay smiled, "It's all rainy and gross outside anyways, we can't go for a walk or play in the yard, might as well make the most of it. Let's just hang out and do nothing. "

"I remember doing more than nothing before though," Hailey rolled her eyes and walked past him to the closet.

"We'll make it family friendly obviously," Jay said and stood behind her, "What do you say? Let's sit in bed, eat Chinese food, drink a bottle of whiskey, and watch movies with Drew."

Hailey bit her lip over a smile. She hesitated before unbuttoning her jeans and pulling them off, "Deal." She turned to face him, "But we drink the whiskey once he goes to bed."

"I think I could wait that long," Jay smirked.

"You better," Hailey kissed him softly.

"You gonna put any pants on?" Jay asked.

"Hmm," Hailey put a hand on his chest, "Maybe I'll-"

"I am not okay," Drew said as he walked in their room wiping at his nose.

Hailey stepped back behind Jay.

Jay took a deep breath before saying, "Why?"

"I think I'm sick," Drew said, "And this is not a lie."

Jay chuckled and walked over to him, "What's wrong?" he set the back of his hand on Drew's forehead and his smile fell, "Hailey."

Hailey looked up from tugging on a pair of sweatpants, "What?"

"He's pretty hot," Jay said and took Drew's hand.

"Really?" Hailey glanced at Drew and walked out of the room.

"Am I going to die?" Drew asked.

"No," Jay shook his head, "Not at all, it's probably just a cold. Kids usually get them when they go back to school."

"I try telling people to wash their hands, but they never listen," Drew sighed. He sneezed and grabbed at his throat.

"Bud," Jay breathed and ran his hand over Drew's hair.

"No, no," Drew stepped back, "Don't touch me."

"Okay," Jay said softly, "I'm sorry."

Drew sneezed again and his eyes grew wide, "Oh no."

Hailey walked back in, "I brought medicine and a thermometer." She knelt in front of Drew, "Let's see, we haven't used this in a while, but it should work."

Jay sat next to her on the ground, "I don't see why it shouldn't."

"I'm getting scared," Drew said.

Hailey shook her head, "No reason to be scared. Open," she slipped the thermometer in his mouth, "I used to get sick at the beginning of school too. Elementary schools are pretty gross."

Jay looked over the medicine bottle and nodded, "Definitely."

The thermometer beeped and Hailey looked at it, "Okay…okay, not a big deal."

"That makes it sound like it is a big deal," Drew tried looking at it.

"What is it?" Jay asked.

"100.3," Hailey breathed and showed him.

"That's not good," Drew stepped away and scratched his arms.

"No, you're okay," Hailey reached out for him.

"Look," Jay said and poured the medicine into the small cup, "You'll take this and you'll feel better."

Drew bit his lip and sniffled, "I don't know."

"And we'll spend all day in bed," Hailey smiled a little, "Dad and I thought that'd be fun anyways since it's raining outside."

Drew glanced to the window, "This is the worst day of my life."

Jay shook his head and held the medicine out, "Drink this then you can change into comfy clothes."

Drew rubbed his eyes, "I don't want to."

"Yes, you do," Jay gently grabbed Drew's wrist, "Come here."

"No," Drew shook his head.

"It won't hurt you," Hailey positioned herself behind him and lightly held his waist, "Take the medicine."

Drew sneezed and grabbed at his throat again.

"I know it hurts," Jay said softly, "This will help. Trust me."

Drew whined, but still took the small cup from Jay and quickly drank it, making a face and shaking his head fast.

"There you go," Hailey whispered and rubbed his back.

"Nice job," Jay quickly kissed the top of Drew's head and brought the medicine to their bathroom.

"I'm scared," Drew croaked. His eyes widened and he nervously pulled at the neck of his shirt.

"It's okay," Hailey said softly, "We'll lay low all day and you'll feel better in no time."

"We have sweatpants for him, right?" Jay asked as he came back out.

"I think so," Hailey nodded.

"All right," Jay put his hand out, "Drew, let's go change out of those jeans."

Drew sneezed and followed him.

Hailey sighed and took a deep breath. She sat on the bed and quickly sent a text to Will.

~Drew has a cold. We gave him Tylenol, should we do anything else?~

She only had to wait for a minute before Will called her. "Hey," she answered.

"Hey, want me to come check him out?" Will asked.

"No, we should be okay," Hailey said softly and looked toward the door, "It seems like a cold. We're just gonna hang out in bed today."

"All right, well, make sure you keep him hydrated," Will said, "And I'm just a phone call away if you need anything."

"Thanks," Hailey breathed, "I'll keep you updated."

"Talk soon," Will ended the call and Hailey sighed, setting her phone back on the nightstand.

"He's not feeling great," Jay said as he walked back in with Drew.

"I'm sorry," Hailey scooted over and patted the mattress, "Dad and I like to cuddle when we don't feel well."

"Way to make me sound like a man," Jay chuckled and helped Drew on the bed.

Hailey rolled her eyes and wrapped Drew in the blankets, "Don't worry, you're a man."

"Yes I am," Jay winked and sat next to her.

"Shush," Hailey laughed.

Drew curled up and covered his head with the blankets.

"We're sorry," Jay said softly and grabbed the remote, "Do you want to watch a movie?"

"Yeah," Drew whispered.

"Which one?" Hailey slid down to hold him against her.

Drew poked his head out, "Aladdin."

"The Disney movie?" Jay asked.

Drew nodded and sniffled.

"I love that movie," Hailey smiled.

Jay quickly put the movie on and laid on the bed, "I haven't watched this in a while."

"It's good," Drew rubbed his eyes.

Hailey nodded and lightly rubbed Drew's arm.

He blinked his eyes quickly and sneezed.

"He's warm," Hailey breathed.

"No I'm not," Drew said, "I'm freezing."

Jay looked at him, "We'll keep you in the blankets then like a little burrito."

Hailey laughed softly and shook her head.

Drew sniffled and sat up slightly, "Can I eat a burrito for lunch?"

"I like that idea," Jay smiled at him.

Drew yawned and watched the movie.

Hailey softly kissed the top of his head and held him close, humming softly along to the music.

After the movie, Jay went to get snacks leaving Hailey with Drew.

"How're you feeling?" she asked softly.

"A little better," Drew sniffled.

Hailey nodded and felt his forehead, "You're not as warm anymore."

Drew sneezed, "That's good, right?"

"Very good," Hailey smiled.

Drew cuddled closer to Hailey and wrapped his arms around her stomach, "I like this."

"Yeah?" Hailey lightly rubbed his back.

Drew nodded, "No one's done this for me before."

Hailey froze, "What do you mean?"

"Before I had to just be alone when I didn't feel good," Drew yawned, "But now you're hugging me and I think it's making me healthy again."

Hailey took a deep breath, "I'm glad."

Drew closed his eyes and rested his head on her chest.

Jay walked back in the room, "I have water, graham crackers, and cheese."

"That's the weirdest snack ever," Hailey laughed and put her hand out.

"He sleeping?" Jay asked and passed Hailey the food.

She shook her head and ran her fingers through Drew's hair.

He winced and opened his eyes, "Can I have cheese?"

"Of course," Jay opened the cheese stick and held it out to him.

"Thanks," Drew sneezed and took it.

Jay felt his forehead, "Not bad."

"That's what Mom said," Drew took a bite of his snack.

Hailey sat up and opened the water, "Will said you should keep your fluids up."

"You talked to Doctor Will?" Drew asked.

"Yeah, I wanted to make sure we were doing the right thing, is that okay?" Hailey passed him the water bottle.

Drew nodded and slowly drank the water.

Jay grabbed a tissue and lightly wiped Drew's nose, "You're getting icky."

Hailey smiled and reached out to squeeze Jay's arm.

Drew set the cheese down, "I don't want to eat anymore."

"Try a graham cracker," Jay held one out.

"No," Drew shook his head, "I'm not hungry."

"That's okay," Hailey said softly, "But you need to finish the water."

Drew sniffled, "I don't know."

Hailey nodded and held the water, "You can do it."

Drew sighed and took the water bottle, "Fine." He swallowed and winced, "My throat."

"The water will help," Jay said, "And once you finish that, we'll watch another movie."

"Really?" Drew rubbed his eyes.

"Really," Hailey kissed his head.

The rain got harder against the window and Drew bit his lip, "We haven't checked the sump pump in a while."

"It's all good," Jay nudged his arm, "I promise."

Drew whimpered and started drinking the water.

"There you go," Hailey said softly, "Finish it up, sweetheart."

Drew glanced toward the window and finished his water.

"Nice job," Jay took the empty water bottle and set it on the ground.

"Is there thunder?" Drew sneezed.

"Not today," Hailey rubbed his back, "Let's lay down again and ignore it."

"I can't ignore it," Drew said.

"We'll try," Jay lifted up Drew's feet and helped him lay on the bed.

Drew sneezed a few times in a row.

Hailey laughed softly, "Oh boy," she helped him wipe his face with a tissue.

"This time, how about you lay with me?" Jay asked and crawled under the blankets.

"Sure," Drew croaked.

"Awesome," Jay held him close and kissed the top of his head.

Hailey smiled and turned on Captain America.

"I like this movie," Drew said and closed his eyes.

Jay chuckled and glanced down at him, "Your eyes are closed, how are you going to watch?"

"I'll open them soon," Drew yawned.

"All right," Hailey situated herself on Drew's other side and rubbed his back.

Drew quickly fell asleep against Jay and started snoring.

Hailey laughed softly, "He's so cute."

"Even though he's covered in snot?" Jay smirked.

"Yeah," Hailey smiled.

"I agree," Jay gently squeezed Drew.

Hailey pushed herself up on her elbow, "This isn't what I planned this morning, but I like it."

"Good," Jay smiled, "Because I really like it too."

Hailey climbed over Jay's legs and rested her head on his other shoulder, "Want some whiskey?" she whispered.

Jay raised his eyebrows, "It's not even lunch."

"Just a little," Hailey smirked and sat up.

Jay laughed, "Sure."

"I'll be right back," Hailey kissed his cheek before running out of the room.

Jay turned to the movie and watched while running his fingers over Drew's arm.

Hailey returned a minute later with two small shot glasses, "Okay."

Jay smirked, "You're something else."

"Sit up," Hailey breathed as she sat on the mattress.

Jay lightly placed Drew against the pillows and sat up, "Thank you," he took the glass from Hailey and tapped it against hers, "Cheers."

"Cheers," Hailey smiled and tipped the whiskey back in her mouth.

Jay quickly drank it, "So good. It's been a while."

"Mhmm," Hailey set the glasses on the nightstand.

"Do you miss it?" Jay asked.

Hailey shook her head and laid back down against his side, "Not necessarily. I feel really good about what we're doing and building a family with you. If we don't go to Molly's every other night, I'm okay with that."

Jay laughed and kissed her forehead, "Me too."

"Am I terrible though if I say I miss one-on-one time with you?" Hailey whispered.

"I don't think so," Jay tangled his fingers in her hair, "I think that's normal. We don't really get it at work and certainly not at home."

"We should work on having a date night," Hailey said softly.

"I'm down," Jay smiled, "As soon as this guy's feeling better, we're dropping him off at Will's and going out for a fancy dinner."

"Mm, a fancy dinner?" Hailey reached for Jay's hand.

He smiled and intertwined his fingers with hers, "Yeah, a nice steak dinner, maybe even a movie or a musical."

"A musical?" Hailey raised her eyebrows, "We haven't gone to a show in a long time."

"You like going, don't you?" Jay squeezed her hand.

"Yeah, it's a lot of fun," Hailey kissed his shoulder.

"Then we're going," Jay looked down at her, "And we'll end by getting ice cream."

Hailey smiled, "I like that a lot."

"Good," Jay breathed and brushed his thumb down her nose.

Hailey closed her eyes and smiled.

"You're so pretty," Jay breathed.

Hailey blushed and pressed her face into his side, "Jay."

"Hmm," he rubbed the back of her neck.

"I love you," Hailey whispered.

"I love you too," Jay smiled.

Drew sneezed in his sleep and held onto Jay's shirt.

Hailey laughed quietly and popped her head up to look at him.

Jay rubbed his back, "Shh, you're okay."

Hailey rested her chin on Jay's chest, "I think this is my ideal day."

"Can you imagine when we have the baby?" Jay asked.

"He'll be right here," Hailey lightly set her hand on Jay's stomach.

"So I'm just the new bed?" Jay smirked.

"Exactly," Hailey kissed him softly.

"I don't mind," Jay chuckled.

Hailey hummed softly and laid back down, "I love the rain."

"Yeah," Jay breathed and closed his eyes.

When Drew opened his eyes, he was freezing and alone. He sneezed and sat up, "M-Mom? Dad?"

Hailey looked out from the bathroom, "Hey, I'm right here."

Drew nodded and pulled at the blankets. He sneezed and groaned.

Hailey finished drying her hands and grabbed the medicine, "How're you doing?" she walked over and sat on the edge of the bed.

"Where's Dad?" Drew sniffled.

"He went to go get you Taco Bell," Hailey smiled. She felt his forehead and poured the medicine into the cup, "Just a little more, okay?"

"Am I still sick?" Drew asked quietly.

Hailey laughed and raised her eyebrows, "Sweetheart, you're still all stuffed up and snotty. You feel warm too."

"No, I'm not warm, I'm freezing," Drew said.

Hailey shook her head and kissed the top of Drew's hair, "Drink this, then I'll get you a sweatshirt."

Drew quickly drank it, "There."

"Wow," Hailey breathed and stood, "You were too damn good at that," she looked through the closet and found one of Jay's hoodies, "Here we go."

"I can wear that?" Drew asked.

"Of course," Hailey pulled the blankets off him, "Arms up."

"But it's Dad's," Drew bit his lip.

"I wear Dad's clothes all the time," Hailey whispered and winked.

Drew laughed quietly, "Really?"

"Really," Hailey smiled.

"Okay then," Drew put his arms up.

Hailey helped him into the sweatshirt and put the hoodie over his hair, "There you go, nice and warm."

Drew nodded and laid back down, "Thank you for taking care of me."

"We will always take care of you," Hailey said softly and tucked him in the bed.

Jay knocked on the wall and walked in, "Lunch has arrived."

"Gosh that smells so good," Hailey stood, "I am ready."

Jay looked in the blankets and smiled, "Hey, bud, you look cozy."

"Are you mad?" Drew asked.

"Why in the world would I be mad?" Jay sorted out the Chinese food he'd gotten for him and Hailey.

"Because I'm wearing your sweatshirt," Drew said.

Jay shrugged, "I'm okay with that. Looks better on you anyways."

Drew blushed and smiled, "It's warm."

"I gave him more of this," Hailey held up the medicine bottle.

Jay nodded, "You need to drink more water too."

"Fine," Drew sighed and sat up, taking his food from Hailey.

After he ate, Jay groaned and laid on the bed, "I am full."

Drew stared at his half-eaten burrito, "I'm sorry, I don't think I can finish."

"No problem," Hailey shook her head and took it from him.

"Stomachache?" Jay asked and gently pulled Drew down to his side.

Drew shrugged, "I don't feel hungry."

"That happens," Hailey squeezed his hand and laid on Drew's other side. She turned on Star Wars and closed her eyes, absentmindedly rubbed Drew's back.

Drew cleared his throat and whispered, "Do you like taking care of me?"

"Hmm?" Jay looked away from the movie, "Of course."

Hailey nodded, "We love taking care of you."

Drew blushed and played with the edge of the blanket, "You're really good at it."

"Thank you," Hailey kissed the back of his head.

Jay glanced toward her and took a deep breath, "Good enough to take care of a baby too?"

Hailey's eyes widened and she sat up slightly.

"A baby and me?" Drew asked.

"Yeah," Jay breathed.

Drew thought for a minute before slowly nodding, "As long as you still keep me."

"We would," Hailey said and paused the movie, "We are not getting rid of you."

Jay sat up as well, "We are probably going to adopt another baby, though; we wanted to tell you. How do you feel about that?"

Drew chewed his lip and pushed the hood off his head, "You want to adopt a baby and adopt me?"

"Yes," Hailey nodded.

Drew looked down at the blankets, "Why?"

Jay slowly breathed out, "Because there's a girl that's really young and she's in some bad trouble and she's pregnant. She doesn't want her baby, so Mom and I thought that we'd be good parents for it."

"You are the best parents," Drew sniffled and sneezed.

Hailey gently wiped his nose with a tissue, "Thank you for saying that."

"Is it a boy or a girl?" Drew asked.

"A boy," Jay smiled a little.

Drew held back a smile and nodded.

"Think about it, okay?" Hailey lightly rubbed his back, "You don't have to tell us right now what you think. We do want to consider what you think before making any more big decisions about it, though."

Drew swallowed, "Okay. I'll think about it."

"Thank you," Jay kissed his head.

"Can you start the movie again?" Drew laid back down.

"Yeah," Hailey said softly and clicked 'play' on the remote. She settled back on the mattress and held Drew close.

Jay smiled at them, "You two are everything to me."

Hailey reached her hand out, "Come hold us."

Jay chuckled and laid down, "I will happily hold you both." He reached over Drew and squeezed Hailey's hand then set his own hand on her waist, rubbing his thumb under her shirt.

Drew pressed his face into Jay's chest and took several deep breaths.

"You okay?" Jay whispered.

Drew nodded and held onto Jay's shirt.

"Go ahead and sleep, honey," Hailey said softly, "You'll feel better when you wake up."

"I hope so," Drew mumbled and curled up.

Jay gently put the hood back on Drew and shifted slightly so he could see the TV. Hailey smiled at him and squeezed his wrist.

"I love you," Jay breathed and winked.

"I love you too," Hailey said softly.

Drew woke up squished between Hailey and Jay, but it just made him smile. He could hear Hailey snoring quietly behind him and his head moved slightly as Jay breathed in his sleep.

He lightly patted Jay's face and whispered, "Dad?" He turned in Jay's arms and lightly rubbed Hailey's shoulder, "Mom?"

"Hmm?" Hailey breathed, but didn't open her eyes.

"You good?" Jay whispered and blinked his eyes open.

"You can adopt the baby," Drew said, "I promise to be a good big brother."

Hailey's eyes shot open, "What?"

Drew looked at her, "You're so good to me; I'm okay with sharing. That baby should be lucky like me."

"Bud," Jay said softly and hugged Drew back tightly against him, "Thank you for saying that."

Hailey nodded and set her hand on the side of Drew's face, "We are so happy you said that," she rubbed her thumb under his eye.

Drew smiled, "You're welcome." He sniffled and covered his mouth in time to sneeze, "Can you wait until I'm not sick though to bring it home?"

Hailey laughed softly, "Yes, we will wait until you're not sick."

Jay smirked and shook his head, "The baby isn't going to be born for about three months, so we have a while."

"Good," Drew sighed, "I need to learn how to be a big brother. Will you read books to me about it?"

"Definitely," Hailey kissed his forehead, "Hey, your fever's not as bad."

"That's great," Jay said and reached around to feel Drew's face, "Should we read now?"

"But then we have to get out of bed," Drew said quietly, "And I like it here."

Hailey laughed, "I am perfectly okay with that."

"Me too," Jay chuckled and rolled on his back, "Looks like we might have slept through some of the movie though."

"That's okay, I want to watch Spiderman," Drew said.

"Is Star Wars not good enough for you?" Hailey gasped.

"Just not that cool," Drew shrugged.

Jay laughed harder, "He's always honest."

"I'll say," Hailey smiled and rubbed Drew's arm, "Okay, I'll put Spiderman on, but you will eventually watch Star Wars because it's a classic and a good movie."

"You always say we have forever together, so I think we'll have time to watch it at some point," Drew said.

Hailey nodded, "You are completely right."

A/N: This one made me really happy, so I hope you liked it as well! As always, thank you for reading! Please let me know what you think!
