Episode 32: Lost Faith
After their terrible loss to Mordred, the six paladins returned to the hideout. They each entered through the portal going at a pace that their injuries would allow them too, with Trevor being the last to walk in. He carried his sisters' body in his arms, making his way inside to set her down.
Princess Abigail ran up to her friends, "Oh my god, what happened?" She asked as she hooked Theo`s arm around her neck and helped him to the couch, "You guys look terrible."
"We got our asses handed to us. That's what happened." Theo explained, clutching his side as he took a seat, "As you can see, we`re a little worse for wear."
Marty was clearing the couches to make room for everyone, "What happened to Katie?"
Jocelyn walked up to her father and buried her face into his chest as she began to cry again. "She`s dead dad. She's dead."
Marty embraced his daughter, shocked at the news given to him. Mason and Abigail looked at each other and then looked to Katie as Trevor laid her down on the couch. They saw how pale her body was and noticed the injuries that she sustained. Abigail looked away in shock and Mason simply stared at her in disbelief.
He then made his way over to a shelf and grabbed a few bottles of antidotes as well as a first aid kit, "Unbelievable, was this all Mordred`s doing?"
"Yes, this was all him! Look at what he did to us! To my sister! He killed her!" Trevor exclaimed as he furiously stood up.
Jocelyn wiped the tears from her eyes and made her way over to her boyfriend, "Just calm down love." She said, taking his hand, "You just have to take a breath, okay?"
He jerked his hand away from Jocelyn, "How can I be calm when Katie`s dead body is lying right in front of me. Look at her!"
"I know that! But being angry won't help with anything. Now`s not the time."
"What do you mean now`s not the time? How can you not be angry? Mordred took my sister from me! I have very right to be angry!" Trevor protested.
"Please, Trevor don't yell. I`m only trying to help." Jocelyn told him.
Trevor then stood defiantly against Jocelyn, "Yeah, well telling me to calm down isn't helping! Don't you understand? Katie is dead, Jocelyn! How can you not be grieving for your friend? How are you just standing-"
SLAP!
Everyone had stayed silent as they watched Trevor and Jocelyn argue. They were completely caught off guard when she slapped Trevor right across the face. They saw how wide his eyes were as he stood there and stared at Jocelyn. He was surprised at what she just did, unable to say anything to her at the moment.
Jocelyn stood there with anger in her eyes, "How dare you! Do you think that I am not grieving? Trevor I`m devastated!" She expressed to him, tears beginning to swell in her eyes, "Katie wasn't just my best friend, she was my sister too. So, don't you dare say that I don't understand because I do! You`re not the only one who lost her, we all did."
Trevor stayed silent for a few more moments before speaking up, "I can't do this right now. I`m sorry Jocelyn."
Trevor took one last look of his sister before leaving the hideout. Marty tried to call out to him before he left, "Trevor wait."
"No, dad, leave him be." Jocelyn interjected.
"Sweetie we can't just let him leave."
She took a seat as she buried her face in her hands, "If he doesn't want to talk to us, then just let him leave."
"You know he didn't mean any of those things he said to you." Marty said to his daughter as he sat next to her.
"I know, it just hurts me to see him like that." She expressed.
Marty put an arm around her, "I`m sure he will come around in time."
She patted his hand, "I sure hope its sooner rather than later."
As the two were conversing, Mason walked up and kneeled down next to Katie, "I`m so sorry Katie, you didn't deserve this." He whispered to her as he looked to her bracelet which contained the virtue stone. He noticed that it was no longer glowing with life, which only solidified its user's death.
"What are you doing Mason?" Abigail asked.
"Since Katie is no longer with us. The stone no longer has power, until it chooses a new wielder." Mason explained, removing the bracelet from Katie`s lifeless body, "We must keep the stone safe until it finds someone who is worthy."
Sasha shook her head, "We can't just replace Katie. Not after everything that just happened."
"We can't just leave the virtue stone unattended either Sasha." Peter added, "Mason has to keep the stone safe until then."
"I know, but its hard to think that Katie is gone." She replied.
"Yeah, to think that it would have come to this. What are we supposed to do now?" Oli asked.
Theo groaned in pain as he tried to speak, "We have to get Trevor back and then go find Mordred so we can kick his ass."
"You aren't kicking anyone's ass in the shape you're in." Abigail said as she treated Theo`s wounds.
Sasha looked to Jocelyn, "What do you think we should do Jocelyn?"
She took in a deep breath, "The first thing we have to do is go to a hospital. We`re all in pretty bad shape, especially Peter."
"She`s right, my healing magic can only do so much." Mason said.
Marty grabbed his coat, "I`ll go with you guys to make sure you`re taken care of."
"What about Katie? What do we do about her?" Peter asked.
"I can preserve her body for now, until we can give her a proper send off." Mason explained, "Princess, will you stay and help me?
Abigail nodded, "Of course."
"I`ll take care of funeral arrangements later." Jocelyn said as she walked up to Katie and gave her a kiss on the forehead, "Don't worry about Trevor love, I made a promise to you. I`ll make sure he`s taken care of."
Jocelyn and the others then headed off to the hospital. Mason and the princess stayed behind to preserve Katies body within a magical cocoon. With Trevor gone for the moment, the whole team was left in shambles. There was no telling when Mordred would attack again, but in the meantime, they had to get themselves back at full strength and there was no telling how long that would take.
After their victory against the paladins, Mordred and Erebeth returned to their master's prison home. Upon their arrival, Gremdon greeted them with great praise, "Excellent work Mordred! To think that you were able to mortally wound one of the paladins."
"It was hardly a challenge, those paladins proved to be no match for me." Mordred replied.
"Yes, and now there is one less paladin we don't have to worry about." Gremdon stated, "What of the virtue stone?"
"We will begin to move against them to retrieve the stone and if Mordred defeats the remaining paladins, then the stones will be within our grasp." Erebeth answered.
The evil master sat on his throne, "It would be wise for you two to retrieve the silver paladins stone as soon as possible. The barrier around this prison of mine is getting weaker."
"I will find a warrior capable to help us in our endeavors." Erebeth said as she left her masters quarters.
"What do you think the paladins will do now Mordred?"
The evil knight sighed, "After slaying the silver paladin, the rest of them will be simple to take down. There spirits are broken and I`m sure the red paladin will be in a state of despair."
"If that is to be true, then they will lose hope without a leader." Gremdon surmised.
Mordred smirked, "That is when I will take the stones and send them all to the afterlife."
Both malicious warriors laughed in amusement. There laughter echoing throughout the cave, it was only a matter of time before Mordred would strike again.
Later that evening, Trevor sat in his sister`s flat in silence. He had just gotten off the phone with his parents, notifying them of Katie`s death. He has never done something so difficult in his life and it didn't help when he heard his mother cry hysterically after telling her the news. It was even more painful that he had to lie about how she died. Trevor told his parents that Katie got caught up in one of the attacks. It got so bad that the injuries she sustained were life threating and she didn't make it through the night. His father had told him that they were going to catch the next flight to London. Trevor told his parents that he would be waiting here and that Katie`s body would begin to get prepared for a funeral.
Suddenly, his phone rang and brought him out of his thoughts. Trevor checked to see who it was, the caller ID showed that it was Jocelyn, she had been calling him nonstop since he left the hideout. He ignored the call, there was nothing anyone could say to make him feel better. Honestly, he didn't even want to talk to anybody right now. His phone buzzed again and showed that he was receiving messages from her.
"Please pick up love."
"I`m sorry about earlier."
"We need to talk and figure this out together."
"You shouldn't be alone during this."
"Please, just talk to me."
Trevor ignored her texts and just turned off his phone. He didn't want to talk to Jocelyn right now, not after what happened earlier. He leaned forward and gave a heavy sigh. The image of Katie dying in his arms kept on replaying over and over in his head and no matter how hard he tried, they wouldn't go away. The thoughts were torturing him and it hasn't even been a full day yet.
Trevor slammed his fist on the coffee table and in that anger, he flipped the table over with all his strength, "Son of a bitch!"
He didn't know what to do, his sister is dead, everyone on the team is injured, and he couldn't think straight. Mordred had shown how powerful he was and if he was able to kill Katie, whose to say that anyone else from the team was next? If that were to happen, then he wouldn't be able to live with himself. Losing Katie already broke him, if he were to lose anyone else, especially Jocelyn, it would completely destroy him.
Trevor looked out the window, "What am I supposed to do now Katie?"
"Clear your mind and you will find the next path to take." A voice called out to him.
Trevor turned around, startled at hearing the mysterious voice, "Whose there?"
There was nothing but silence, from what Trevor heard he couldn't make out if the voice was a male or female. He kept looking around the flat, but found nothing. Trevor was beginning to think that he just imagined someone saying something to him, but he swore he heard a voice. He was confused, did he really hear something? If he did, then what was the mysterious voice trying to tell him? Trevor shook the questions out of his head, now was not the time to start going crazy, but for some reason he felt like there was a presence watching him.
A/N: Hey everyone, here is another chapter for you all. Now, I decided to end this story here on a bit of a cliff hanger, if you could call it that. I have made the decision to start a season two of this series which will pick up the story line from where it left off here. So I`m going to label this story as season one and hopefully I can upload the first chapter of season two when I have a chance. I want to be able to do another 32 chapters or so to bring this series to a conclusion and the best way I thought of doing that was to split it up. So be on the look out for season two of this series since I wont post any more chapters on this one! Thanks for reading and see you guys on the next one!
