Harry stared at the tiny kid Sans and Flowey claimed was a mass-murderer of monsters as they walked through the snow. Harry was hidden with a Disillusionment Charm he had perfected for this day. He looked back at where Sans was hidden behind a tree. " This is the kid who is a mass-murderer?" He whispered.
"They're deadlier than you think," Sans whispered back. "Now c'mon, I got a role to play."
Sans walked behind the kid and broke a stick in the path. The kid didn't even flinch, and kept walking. Then Sans said menacingly, "Human. Don't you know how to greet a new pal? Turn around and shake my hand."
The kid turned and slapped their hand into Sans'. The noise of a whoopie cushion rang through the air, but the kid didn't even crack a smile. "Gee, kid, not even a smile? Wellp, guess I know how this run is going to go," Sans said, breaking character.
The kid's face turned up in confusion. Never, in over two hundred Resets, had Sans broken character, but here he was with new dialogue. What had happened to change things?
Harry used the kid's confusion to reveal himself. "So, you're the kid everyone is telling me about," he said sadly.
Frisk reeled back, confused at a human face staring out of a monster's body. Suddenly, everything went black.
Harry stared at the form of Dr. Gaster, who was grinning at him. "You certainly shook things up for that little brat, didn't you?" he said gleefully.
"All I did was greet them, why did they Reset?" Harry asked.
"Now that you're something new, they'll want to see what they can do with you before ruining everything with a Genocide run," Dr. Gaster said.
"Are they really that messed up that they think this is all some game that they can play with people's lives?" Harry said angrily.
"Yes," Dr. Gaster replied simply. "But maybe you can finally make them happy. Goodbye for now."
"But wait, I-" Harry was interrupted by the world wrenching back into place, and he shot up from his makeshift bed on Sans' and Papyrus' couch. "Well bugger," he cursed.
"I agree," Sans appeared at the end of the couch. "That didn't go as I expected. I have no idea what they are going to do now."
"Well Dr. Gaster seems to think that they want to see what they can do with me," Harry said.
"That makes sense," Sans agreed. "I just hope that we can get them to see sense."
"Well, I have the Reset power too now," Harry pointed out. "I hate to say this, but if we have to have a Reset duel, I'll show them how determined I can be."
"That would suck," Sans said. "I don't want it to come to that, but we may have to."
Harry stared at the tiny kid as they came out of the Ruins. They looked a lot happier than they had before - before they had been blank-faced and covered with the dust of monsters.
Harry wondered why they did it if it hadn't made them happy. Then again, Voldemort didn't exactly seem happy with his choices either. He had flashes of happiness but it was quickly covered by anger and insanity. But this kid wasn't like Voldemort, surely. They were just enamored with their power, perhaps.
They walked along the path as they had before, and when Sans came up behind them, they shook with fear. They turned around, and stared at Sans with guilt on their face. When the whoopie cushion went off, a tiny smile appeared on their face. Then they flung themselves at Sans, hugging him and crying.
"Woah, kid, what's up? We just met; did I scare you that bad?" Sans asked.
The kid looked up at Sans and shook their head. They started signing at Sans, and Harry cocked his head to the side. He had been being taught ASL, as certain monsters didn't have vocal abilities, but he wasn't nearly good enough to catch everything that the kid was saying.
He approached Sans and the kid, and cleared his throat. Both Sans and the kid looked up at him. The kid looked just as shocked as before. They turned to Sans and started signing frantically.
"Hey, hey, calm down, kid. This is Harry, a hybrid that came to us between Resets." Sans said, sighing.
Frisk turned to Harry and looked at him strangely. "I can't read ASL very well yet," Harry apologized. Frisk shook their head, and grabbed at his hand, which Harry was hesitant to let them touch him, but allowed.
Frisk looked his hand over and then let go. "Uh…" Harry looked at Sans, who shrugged lazily.
"So, kid - Frisk, right?" Harry began, and Frisk nodded. "What's up with all the Resets? Why did you want to kill all the monsters?" Harry asked seriously.
Tears welled up in Frisk's eyes, and they shook their head fiercely, and signed something at Sans.
"They say it wasn't them in control," Sans reported. "So if it wasn't you, who was it?" he directed the question at Frisk.
Frisk frowned and signed something else. "You don't know? So it's not Chara?" Sans asked.
"Chara?" Harry asked. "Wasn't that the other human that Dad adopted?"
"Yes; their spirit is possessing Frisk," Sans nodded.
"You don't think that's something I should have known going into this?" Harry asked, then shook his head. "Nevermind, it's too late now. So if it wasn't Frisk or Chara, then who was it?"
Frisk shrugged, looking guilty.
"Maybe we should scan them with Alphys' scanner like you did me, Sans," Harry suggested.
"Good idea, Harry," Sans agreed. "Let's go, kiddo. We'll have you stay at mine and Papyrus' house while I go get the scanner."
Frisk nodded and followed along with Sans and Harry as they walked towards Snowdin.
