Stan had been waiting for this day for so long.
He didn't look anything like how he'd originally wanted to look for Ford's return. A lot more wrinkles than that first plan, in his skin, and in his suit. There was also a lot more... Stuff... That Stan had done (probably shouldn't have tried that Pug thing). But yet, being old and seeing your brother was better than never seeing him.
The portal swirled closed, and Stan had to fight the urge to cry out in pure sadness. Ford wasn't walking out. Ford wasn't there... Ford wasn't...
Suddenly, just as the last glimmer of light faded from the center of the vortex, a shape flew through.
Like literally flew.
Stan felt large, strong paws land on his shoulders, bringing him crashing to the ground. He caught a glimpse of a yellow furry face inches away from his own. There was a wild animal on top of him. He could feel it's breath ruffle his hair, and he noticed that his fez had flown off of his head. He also noticed that one of the paws was in the air above his face.
Luckily the claws on this one weren't out yet. Stan's entire head was turned to the side as the creature whacked him on the jaw.
"This was an insanely risky move," Stan heard... Wait. This creature was Ford? What? How? "Restarting the portal. Didn't you read my warnings?!"
This was officially the strangest day of Stan's life.
"Can't... Breathe..." Stan choked out, but the Ford-monster just growled. Literally growled. "You can breathe just fine Stanley. Unless your skin has gotten soft in these last couple of decades. You haven't gotten old have you?"
Stan felt like he had a mountain on top of him. His glasses were askew, and the lack of oxygen was making his vision even more blurry. The Ford-monster was fading in and out... Oh my, Stan was going to die!
"Hey! Pick on somebody your own size!"
Stan could barely hear Mabel. He felt the last paw lift up off of his chest, and a gasp of air brought his vision back to normal. He was still pinned by his legs to the ground, but at least he could breathe again.
"Stanley... You didn't tell me there were children here." The Ford-monster said, and Stan watched in fascination as he unfurled his yellow, red, and blue wings and readjusted them behind his back, folding them tightly against his body.
"Uh... I sort of couldn't..." Stan choked up, "Can you please get off of .."
"Your wings are so pretty!" Mabel cried, dashing up to the Ford-monster, "I like them. Please get off of Grunkle Stan now."
Ford-monster looked down at Stan, who nodded enthusiastically. He wanted to understand what had happened to his brother. He watched Ford slowly back off of him and move towards Mabel.
Mabel looked up at him, and her eyes held no fear. Ford spread his wings again, and brought them around his shoulders, like a floating blanket. He bowed towards Mabel and smiled, his face turning a bit more... human-like.
"I am honored that you believe so," he said, sounding a bit too professional for Stan's taste. "I was born with them."
"Whoa," Mabel said, lifting a hand out in Ford's direction. "May I?"
Ford looked uncomfortable for a moment, then reached his now human like hand out to grab Mabel's, and demonstrated how to stroke his winds properly.
"Never the other way," he said, matter of factly, "It takes forever to preen them "
"You are the coolest person I've ever met." Mabel said, looking up into his face. "And that's saying something."
"I believe that you are the sweetest person I have ever met," Ford's answered, smiling down at her. "So we're even."
They sort of just staying that way for a minute, then Stan called out quietly, "Uh... Ford? What happened to you?"
Ford folded his wings again, and turned around to look at Stan again. "Nothing happened to me... Oh my." His eyes widened as he looked Stan up and down. "I didn't even notice... Stan! Are you okay?!"
Needless to say, Stan was confused.
When Ford stepped out of the portal, the first thing to greet him was something that looked like a statue.
A statue that was alive, and had his brother's voice.
"Finally, after all these long years of waiting!" The statue said, spreading it's large, menacing, grey wings.
Ford glanced behind the Stan-monster, and saw three other oddities. A mermaid, a cervitaur, and a goo monster. All of which looked perfectly comfortable in their situations.
Ford couldn't help himself. He screamed.
"You're the Author of the Journals!"
Ford barely even registered the voice from behind him. He was too busy staring at his brother. His entire life Stan had looked different, but that was true of literally everybody from his Dimension. But this? Something had to have happened to him. Unless...
Ford was trapped in an alternate universe.
Ford felt his claws extend out, he had the sudden urge to destroy something. But no... He needed to think this through.
He heard the boy's words a moment after he had said them. He turned around and looked down at the boy, who's eyes seemed to be torn between fear and hope. This child had read his (or at least, the version of him from this Dimension's) Journals.
"You read my Journals?" He asked, watching the boy bounce up and down. That kid must have really liked them.
"I haven't just read them, I've lived them!" The boy said, and paced in front of Ford, "I have so many questions... It's an honor... Ooh, I think I'm going to throw up..."
The girl from before dashed over to the boy, who just had to be her brother. Twins if Ford's suspicion was right.
"My name is Stanford Pines," he said, smiling down at them and hoping it didn't freak them out.
"Stanford? But... Grunkle Stan is Stanford..." The girl said, and Ford's spun around.
Stan didn't seem to hear what the girl had said. He was sitting on one of the pieces of the portal, and stared at Ford. His mouth was opening and closing, but no sound came out. Ford almost felt sorry for him.
"Grunkle Stan?" The girl asked, dashing past Ford and coming up to the other old man. "Do you know what's going on? Why did he say that he's Stanford?"
"He's so different..." Stan mumbled, "He looks like a cat bird..."
"A Sphinx. I'm a Sphinx." Ford said, them thought for a moment. "So you're sort of right..." He watched Stan shake his head. Ford felt very uncomfortable, he had no idea what he was supposed to do in a situation like this.
"A Sphinx? Like in Egyptian mythology?" The boy asked, and Ford was grateful for a reason to look away from Stan.
He looked back at the boy and nodded. "Except, in my world I am definitely not a myth."
"Coool..." The boy said, then thought for a moment. "Is it okay if I ask you a couple million questions?"
"Um... Sure? After you answer one from me..." Ford answered, sitting down on the ground, "What's your name?"
"Oh." The boy said, facepalming, he dropped his hand and held it out towards Ford. "I'm Dipper, Dipper Pines."
"It's an honor to meet you," Ford's said, shaking Dipper's hand. He glanced behind him and saw Mabel wrap one of her arms around Stan's shoulders. "She's your sister?"
"Yeah," Dipper answered, staring at Ford's yellow hand, "She's Mabel."
Ford smiled, and looked back at Dipper. "Are you twins?"
Dipper nodded, "Yup. We're twelve." He realized that they'd been shaking hands for a bit too long, and he dropped his hands to his sides. "So... You're a Sphinx... Tell me about that... Have you always been one?"
Ford smiled, and spread his wings over his shoulders, to give them a semblance of privacy. Dipper pulled a notebook out of his jacket, and clicked a pen open.
"Actually, yes. I'm from a universe where everyone is a different kind of creature. It is a very interesting place to live. It helped me get used to the Multiverse..."
This could be fun.
"What happened to you?"
Stan stared at the person who just had to be Ford. But there was something wrong.
First off, last time Stan had seen his twin, Ford had had wings. Second, Stan was pretty sure that Ford had been yellow their entire life. Third, this guy looked like Dipper just without the deer parts.
What in the world is this guy?
"You... I... What happened to you?" The not-Ford asked. Stan shrugged, his wings stretching out slightly, "Nothin', you're the one who looks weird."
"I'm in an alternate universe... I'm in an alternate universe..." not-Ford mumbled, "I'm in an alternate universe..."
This would be interesting.
"And you can't go back to where you're from?"
Ford had distracted himself long enough. Dipper had a mind like a sponge. The kid could probably interview him for the rest of his natural life. Dipper had answered a few of Ford's own questions, and Ford really felt like he had met a kindred spirit.
Stan had gotten over his initial shock (to be fair, Ford had tried to kill him the moment he was in this universe. So he could forgive him for that), and was now interested in what had happened to his real brother. Ford had explained his theory, and Stan was adamant that they should get the Ford of his universe back.
"No. I can't." Ford answered, watching Stan become upset. "This portal could... Could destroy the world the more we use it." He sighed, and held a hand up to his temple, "In a number of ways."
Stan clenched his hands into fists. "Okay... Just... What are you?"
Ford sighed, "As I have said, I am a Sphinx. Look it up " he stretched his arms and wings, feeling his bones pop. "And I need to get myself clean. I might be cat like, but I'd rather live in the Nightmare Realm than clean myself with my tongue."
Stan nodded, then something clicked in his mind. "Wait! The Government!"
This would be interesting.
After many requests, I figured out a Monster Falls one! Yay! I hope you guys liked it!
I don't really know many differences between the stories of MF and GF, so I didn't really add much story. Ooh... Monster Ford's is going to have to make sure he doesn't get stuck in a Government facility... He'll be fine...
As always, have a great day!
