Inspired by the song Let him go by JUNG. Give it a listen and you'll see the inspiration.
Kate lays awake and thinks. This wasn't what was supposed to happen. How could she let herself fall so hard? How could she let down her guard so? It was only supposed to be a one time thing. Just that one time to get it out of her system. To get him out of her system.
That one time was four months ago. And she finds herself in his bed yet again. Chasing his lips with a fever that hasn't presented itself with anyone else but him. Now, in the aftermath, she's once again questioning herself, once again scolding herself. This isn't her, she shouldn't be like this. She doesn't get invested. Ever. It's the one way she knows she can't get hurt.
The snore beside her turns her head to him again. He's kind of adorable when he sleeps like that. No. Stop it. Kate scolds her mind for drifting. At least he's asleep. Time to go. She slips out of bed as quietly as possible. Locates her underwear along with her pants and shirt. She keeps quiet while she's getting dressed, certain he's in deep sleep now, because he usually is by now. She's struggling to button-up her shirt and she almost lets go of a screech when his voice sounds through the bedroom.
"Where're you goin'?"
"Damnit Castle," she sighs out with her hand above her heart, steadying her breathing.
He's suddenly wide awake and fuck this wasn't her intention. "Where are you going?" he asks again and she bites her lip hard, can taste the iron of her own blood.
"Home," she swallows hard. "We shouldn't keep doing this."
His eyebrows go up in the darkness and she wishes it was darker, because if she can see those glimpses in his eyes she's more than sure he can see the fear and anxiety in hers.
"We're not doing anything wrong," he tells her, for the hundredth of time.
She shakes her head. No, they're not. It's not like they're married or something like that. But she wasn't supposed to fall.
"Why won't you come back to bed? Forget about everything, okay? Let's just sleep," he's reaching for her hand and grabs it and when had she gone close enough for him to reach her?
He's pulling her closer now, and her body isn't resisting. Not like the internal battle inside her. He has her lying down in bed in no time and cuddles her close in order to make it harder for her to escape. He's spooning her and god if it isn't making her fall deeper into the hole. It feels so comfortable.
"Stop denying it Kate, we're good together, you enjoy this as much as I do. I can tell it by the way you're constantly hesitating to disappear on me. The way you look at me when you think I'm not looking at the precinct. The way you move with me when we're… you know." Yes, she knows. "And you wouldn't come back to me if you didn't want to."
"I…" she starts to argue but she knows it's not worth it. He's right. She enjoys this too much to let it go. She likes him too much to let him go. "We'll only get hurt," she whispers her deepest fear and feels his squeeze before feeling his lips in her hair.
"I think I'll much rather take the risk, can't imagine life going on without you," he says into her ear and she feels her heart melt.
Slowly she turns in the bed, meeting his blues in the darkness to see those glimpses again, deciding they're indeed that same deep hole she's found herself falling into.
"I… I just want you," she whispers and sees his smile turn bigger.
"I want you too," he tells her before claiming her lips with his in a much deeper kiss than they've earlier allowed themselves.
She feels his hand sneak inside her shirt and she mumbles 'screw it' into his mouth as she's suddenly working him up as much as he's working her up too. Pretty soon she's undressed again and chasing that high only he can provide. Him with his lips, his hands, his electrifying touch, the feeling of his body against hers. It's driving her crazy, and sated.
"That was…" he groans when she's kissing his lips again.
She moans. "Yeah, how's that possible?" she whispers and bites her tingling lip.
Castle looks at her as if she knows exactly why and she ignores it, just shakes her head and snuggles onto his chest. Within the next few minutes she's falling asleep with no intention of leaving.
