Sam had found pillows all over the home, rigging them up, so most of Jack's weight was off the bruised area. Jack had to admit it was the first time in days that he felt comfortable sitting down.
Sam was waiting on him, and he felt terrible, but Sam insisted he relax for a little bit and told him she understood how it could take a toll sitting with her dad on a ship that long. Jack smiled at Sam. Her dad wasn't the problem, probably the saving grace out of the whole thing, but he wouldn't tell her that. Jack had the remote in his hands, flipping through the TV at anything that sounded familiar.
"So, what'd I miss?" Jack asked.
"Jack..." Sam warned.
"Okay, okay, let me tell you what you missed," Jack claimed.
Sam went over to Jack and leaned on his good side.
"I'd love to hear it," Sam claimed.
Jack didn't leave any details out as he explained the latest SG-1 mission that went south. Although it was very open and shut, and no one was seriously injured, Sam played it up as if he was telling the latest action-adventure story to her.
Sam smiled. "I'm glad you're okay."
"Okay, I can barely sit down." Jack insisted.
Sam laughed. "It could be worse. You didn't get shot," Sam stated.
Jack smiled, knowing he had enough bullet wounds, she did too, but it wasn't something they seriously discussed. Near-death experiences are like second nature, and it would be odd not to have them on a semi-regular basis. Sam seemed to read Jack's mind once again.
"I don't know how long I can watch you do this, and I am so sorry after all this time, making you watch me go through all this," Sam admitted.
"Sam, I know, this is who we are, we can't be sorry for that. I've been thinking a lot. There is a lot of time to think when you're just floating through space." Jack said.
"Well, actually, you were going several times faster than the speed of light," Sam explained.
"It's all relative, Carter. It felt like forever. I had time to think, and I don't know how many times I can step through that gate without you." Jack admitted.
Sam smiled. "I feel the same."
"Let's give us some time, let's get out of here for a little bit," Jack explained.
"Where are we going?" Sam asked.
"Where ever you want me to take you," Jack stated.
"Jack!" Sam stated.
"I'm serious. You want the beach; we're there, the mountains we'll climb whatever peak. I am serious, Sam." Jack claimed.
Sam smiled at him.
"I want to wake up where ever you are Jack, that's all," Sam claimed.
Jack smiled at her and pulled her into him, kissing her lips, holding her tight.
"The pain killers are kicking in," Jack mentioned.
"That's fine I'll be here when you wake up," Sam claimed.
Sam enjoyed her time leaning on to the man she has missed for so many days now. She hated how quickly her emotions had pulled to the front with him. She hated the thought of needing him, of wanting him, and the chance she could lose him. She finally had him to herself after all these years. After all the hidden emotions, the secrets they kept from each other. Now they were letting each other in. She didn't want anyone else to take him away from her. That wasn't the mission or their job. If anything, she should care less about him then anyone else when they're out in the field because the Colonel, well, he was ultimately in charge. She had disobeyed his orders so many times, but all for good, if she were to make a mistake, now cost him his life. She hated the rabbit hole she was sinking. She turned, put her hands through his short hair as he slept with her arms wrapped around him.
Sam woke up slightly confused but realized Jack was moving underneath her, and she moved to give him room. He went to stretch but let out a painful gasp.
"You okay?" Sam asked.
"Fine. I'm fine." Jack claimed.
Jack felt a little sore but stood up, moving around, getting Sam to stand up as well.
"Do you need anything?" Sam asked.
"Maybe this setup in the bedroom," Jack mentioned. Sam nods her head.
"Are you going to bed?" Sam asked.
"If you'll join me," Jack claimed.
"Jack, you know we can't do anything," Sam mentioned.
"I can lay, and you can lay beside me." Jack states.
Sam looked around, there were 1000 things to do, but she stopped and looked at Jack's pleading eyes, and Sam realized that he had suddenly become first on her list, and she gave in, trying to find a pattern of comfortable pillows.
"Since when were you one to laze around all day?" Sam asked.
"Since the whole back half of me turned purple," Jack claimed.
"Does it hurt that bad should I let Janet know?" Sam asks as she pulls out her phone.
"Janet knows, says it's to be expected. She told me I should rest and walk and take it easy. She'll be happy to know for once. I'm following orders." Jack smiled.
"Plus, I don't want her to think I'm too hurt to send Cassie over this weekend, I miss her," Jack claimed.
Sam nodded.
"I haven't seen too much of her. Lately, she's at that age if she's not with Elliott she's off with her friends doing whatever it is teens do these days," Sam claimed.
"A lot's changed, Sam, but I take it they do about the same things we did as kids," Jack claimed.
"Yeah, well, hopefully, she doesn't blow up the basement, or accidentally catch Janet's car on fire, or scrub the stain of the couch and leave a huge mark. At least she doesn't have a brother to rat her out." Sam smiled.
"Please do tell, I always love a young Sam Carter story, but your dad does to tend to tell them a lot better," Jack stated.
"Oh God, what did dad tell you? You had too much time together." Sam groaned.
"Well, he told me all about the time you and a girl named Allison stole his car. He also told me about the time you got kicked off quiz bowl because you answered the questions too fast." Jack explained.
Sam grumbled," It's not fair I don't have anyone to hear embarrassing childhood stories from."
"I'm sorry, Jack, you know I didn't mean it anyway, I know you miss your family," Sam said quickly.
"No, I know what you meant, whatever you want to know, I'll tell you, but I want to hear what on earth happened to the couch?" Jack asked.
"So I had a couple of friends over, no one was supposed to be their dad made it abundantly clear if he wasn't home, friends were not welcome either, but Mark and I both agreed we wouldn't tell dad anything if we had some friend over. I don't even think Mark was home. We were painting our nails…."
"Your nails?" Jack asked.
"Yeah, you know that stuff called nail polish..." Sam asked.
"I just see you more as a tomboy growing up," Jack answered.
"Well, there was plenty of that too, but I was painting my nails, deep dark hooker red my dad would call it," Sam explained.
Jack smiled.
I poured the whole bottle all over the couch cushion.
"Ouch," Jack stated.
"It took me three days to get it out, the whole place smelled of chemicals, dad asked me if I cleaned the house when he walked in and thanked me." Sam laughed.
"Well, at least you got away with it." Jack smiled.
"So, what furniture did you destroy?" Sam asked.
Jack didn't have long to think, knowing a few stories that came to mind.
As the two of them laughed about their childhood and got to learn about their past, it explained to both of them the actions they take day to day and how much their childhood molded them in who they are today.
"Sam, I mean, I know everything with Jonas, but after that, why didn't you find someone?" Jack asked.
"When would I have had time to do that? Jonas and I broke up three months before I moved here to work on the Stargate. Then it wasn't long before I went through the gate with you and Daniel; we found Teal'c my whole life changed. I remember you asking me to get a life, but my whole life revolves around you guys." Sam admitted.
"I know it wasn't fair of me to ask; I know that you were doing a lot, especially early on. I had no clue how you juggled everything thrown at you. Alien tech, alien weapons, dialing the gate, you seemed to have no free time, and any time something was given to you, the cosmos seemed to take it away." Jack stated.
"You're right; it was busy and hectic, but I loved every minute of it. When I first started at the SGC, I had a lot to prove to everyone, not just you." Sam claimed.
"It's not fair," Jack said.
"No, but I knew what I was walking into when I joined the Academy when I worked at the Pentagon when I arrived at the SGC. I always will have something I need to prove because a woman in uniform isn't what's expected. Let alone a doctor of physics." Sam claimed.
"You're incredible." Jack insisted and flipped over, facing Sam.
Sam smiled at him.
"So, I've been told." Sam giggled.
"I love you," Jack stated.
"I love you too." Sam smiled.
Jack latched on to Sam's lips, and they lay there kissing back and forth like school children.
Daniel and Teal'c rang Jack's doorbell.
Sam answered the door, her hair was a bit wild, and she was trying to tame it. Jack sat comfortably in his chair. Daniel brought pizza and a six-pack, and suddenly it seemed all was right with the world.
"I see that you have devised a most helpful way to relieve the pain," Teal'c claimed, looking at all the pillows around Jack's lower half.
"Yes, having a girlfriend who studies physics seems to help with my problem," Jack claimed.
Daniel stopped and stared at him.
"What Danny-boy," Jack asked.
"I've just never heard you refer to Sam as your girlfriend." Daniel pointed out.
"Well, I mean, that's the correct term they didn't change it on me, did they?" Jack asked.
"Well, no, I just, well, I don't know." Daniel stuttered.
Sam just looked back and forth at the two and shook her head.
"So Teal'c, what movie are we watching tonight?" Sam asked.
It was always a given when the four of them were together they on nights like this. They ended up at least starting a movie. Sometimes they would get into a conversation, and the film would be all but forgotten until the credits rolled. This time though, Sam figured that they would get through it.
"I have been learning about Walt Disney. There is a lot of information regarding his life. I have watched short cartoons of Mickey Mouse but have not yet partaken in a full-length film. I have found that another word for Alien is Martian, and therefore the movie I feel would be most relatable is "My Favorite Martian." Teal'c smiled.
Sam, Jack, and Daniel look at each other, shrug their shoulders, and let the movie play.
