It had been a little over a year since Fili and I got married. My brothers come to visit here and there but they went back to Rivendell. Fili and I had gotten closer and now had a routine. I helped in the healing quarters more when needed and was with Fili when needed with meetings. We weren't in rush to have children at the moment, but I knew Fili was starting to want some, seeing other dwarfings and kids when he went to Dale. Dis was hinting for grandchildren, but was luckily understanding with us not rushing.
I had been sick for over a week. The slight smell of food had me over the toilet and it was mostly after Fili was gone. I didn't want him to worry. I laid over the toilet as I finished puking my guts out. I heard footsteps and thought it was Dis.
"How long?" Fili's voice came. I looked up to see Fili leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed. I lay back and lean against the wall.
"How long what?" I ask.
"How long have you been sick, Princess?" Fili asked. I sigh. Dis must have told him.
"A week." I said. Fili came over and knelt on the floor with me. He took my hands.
"Go see Oin. For me at least." Fili said.
"It could be nothing." I said.
"You've never been sick like this. Least for me. Please." Fili said.
"Alright." I grumble. Fili pressed a kiss to my forehead and pulled me to my feet. I hugged him and he returned the hug.
"I just worry about you, love. Don't want to loose you." Fili said.
"I know. Ye heading to Dale today?" I ask.
"Yes. I'll be home later tonight in time for dinner. Let me know what Oin says when I get home." Fili said as he walked me to the healer quarters.
"Of course." I said. Fili kissed my check as we got to the healer quarters and headed for the main gate. I watched him go and then I enter the healing quarters. Oin looked up from his desk. It was quiet today.
"Laila. I wasn't expecting ye to be here today, lass." Oin said.
"I haven't been feeling good for a week and thought it was time to be seen." I said. Oin nodded.
"Lay down on the bed, lass." Oin said. I laid down on the bed as Oin came over and started examining me. He asked questions and I answered as best as I could and he nods as he finishes. "Well lass. Yer with child. Congradulations. Fili is gonna be happy and I know Dis will be as well." I smile. "Ye look like your almost two months along."
"Thank you Oin." I said, hugging the old healer. He returned the hug. I went towards the royal chambers. Dis was standing in there.
"Everything alright?" Dis asked.
"Just peachy." I said. I wanted to wait till I told Fili first before announcing to everyone else.
That night. I laid on our bed after taking a needed nap with a book and was reading. Fili opened the door and came into our room. I looked up as he came over.
"Glad your home." I said, sitting up as he sits on the bed.
"Mother said our friends will be over for supper tonight. What did Oin say?" Fili asked. I took his hands gently.
"Well its good news. I'm with child." I said. Fili's eyes widen.
"Truely?" Fili asked.
"Truely." I said. Fili pulled me against him and hugged me. I returned the hug.
"You made me the happiest Dwarf, Princess." Fili said, kissing my forehead.
"We should tell the others." I said.
"Mother will be happy." Fili said. He pulled me to my feet and led me out where the dwarves were already there and talking. Fili cleared his throat and the dwarves turn as he wrapped an arm around me and pulled me close to his side. "Laila and I got an announcement." The dwarves share looks and Dis raised an eyebrow.
"What is it, laddie?" Balin said. I saw Oin smiling and I smile.
"Fili and I are expecting our first child." I said. Cheers rang through the crowd.
"Pay up." Dwalin growled with a huge grin. It seemed like he bet over a year before we announced we had a child. Ori handed him the money as Dis ran and hugged me.
"I am so happy. Was wondering when." Dis said.
"We were in no rush, mom. We told you but we decided a little while ago to try." Fili said. The dwarves threw a party and I laughed. Tauriel came over and hugged me as Kili tackled Fili.
"The baby is gonna be spoiled." Tauriel said.
"Oh I defently know that is true with all the uncles." I said.
"Wagers if its a boy or girl." Nori said. Kili was the only one that voted girl.
"Nori. Whenever my brothers get here. Make sure you get theirs also. I'm sure they will want to get on it." I said. Nori nodded. Fili was passed mugs of ale and Dori got me some tea as Fili and I cuddle up together on the couch as the dwarves celebrate. I cuddle into Fili as he rests a hand on my stomach. I look up at him and saw him turn to look at me.
"I love ye." I said. Fili grinned.
"And I you, woman." Fili said, kissing me as the dwarves cheer.
Some months later. The dwarves kept a watchful eye on me and no one left me alone. Dwarves were so protective of their women. I only let it be Fili, Kili, Thorin, and Tauriel, which was fine. Tauriel and I came back from Dale from visiting Bard and the kids. I was starting to show and starting to feel the baby move in me.
"It was nice to get out of the Mountain and thank you for talking to Fili about it." I said.
"No problem. You need to get out once in awhile." Tauriel said. We come across the bridge. I gasp at the site. The whole hall was filled with water.
"Valar." I said.
"What happened?" Tauriel said. Fili stood talking to Dwalin as we careful walk through the water.
"Laila. Tauriel." Fili said, coming over and helped me onto the stairs.
"What's going on?" I ask.
"We didn't seal some of the cracks and water leaked in." Fili said. I swore in elvish. "Elvish. Really." I grinned at him.
"I still can speak all languages. That I won't give up." I said. Fili chuckled. I felt a kick and grin.
"What?" Fili asked. I grab his hand and put it where the baby kicked and he felt the next kick and he grinned. "Head to the chambers. Its just the lower halls are flooded."
"What about the mines?" I ask.
"They are fine, lass." Dwalin said with a smile. He was the Captain of the Guard which suited him. I grinned.
"Go. I'll join soon." Fili said, kissing my head. Tauriel and I head to our chambers. Tauriel and I sat talking with Dis as the men came.
"How could we miss them." Thorin growled.
"Its just an easy mistake we can miss." Fili said.
"Should of been caught in the first place." Thorin said.
"Boys. Stop fighting." Dis said. I chuckle as Thorin grumbled. Fili came over and hugged me. I returned the hug as we join our friends.
It was getting close to when the baby should be joining us and I could tell he or she responded to Fili's voice. Remi and Zarrek had joined us for a month to see their niece or nephew. They already betted a girl with Kili and the brothers were enjoying Erebor. Zarrek was flirting with Sigrid in Dale. And I had a feeling they would be courting soon. Fili only went when needed to Thorin, but stayed home with how close I was.
Fili had to go to Dale to talk to Bard with Zarrek. Worse thing was it was his birthday. Tauriel and Dis kept ashuring him that they would send word if I go into labor before he left. Dis wasn't happy with Thorin about this but it gave us time to get dinner ready for him and our friends before he came home. I stood in the kitchen with Dis and Tauriel as we got food ready. Most of the company was there as we made the food with Bombur. I sat on a stool as I cut some vegitables.
"I don't know what Thorin was thinking sending Fili when Laila is so close to her due date." Dis said.
"Dis its fine. Its just a trade agreement that he is hoping to get done." I said. Dis still tisked. I stood up as I waddle to hand Bombur the vegitables. I drop the bowl as a shot of pain ran through my stomach.
"Laila." Dis said, hurrying over with Tauriel. The pain wasn't going away. I've had the pains here and there for two days and thought it was false contrations, but this one isn't going away.
"I think the baby is coming. Someone get Fili." I said.
"On it." Bofur said, running out of the room.
"Get her to the bedroom." Oin said. Dis and Tauriel help me to Fili's and my room and help me lay down. Ori ran with a bowl of water and rag and ran out as Tauriel popped me up with pillows.
"Breathe." Tauriel said as I breathed and cried out during the contrations. Dis went to look.
"Oh Mahal. They better find Fili soon." Dis said.
"What?" I ask.
"This baby wants to make a quick entrance." Dis said. I groan as I lean back. "Time to push." I cried out as I pushed.
Fili's POV. Zarrek and I enter the halls of Erebor.
"I would of been back sooner if you would of stopped flirting with Sigrid." I said, grumbling.
"Sorry." Zarrek said. Bofur came running.
"Oh thank Mahal your back." Bofur said.
"What is it?" I ask.
"Laila. She's gone into labor." Bofur said. I ran towards the Royal Chambers with Bofur and Zarrek. A babies cry fill the air as I neared Laila's and my room.
Laila's POV.
"Bless Mahal. It's a girl." Dis said, holding the crying baby. I smile as I whipped my sweat as Oin took the baby to clean her. Fili ran into the room.
"About time." I said.
"Sorry. Your brother couldn't stop flirting with Sigrid." Fili grumbled.
"You have a daughter." Oin said, setting the baby on my chest as she cried. Fili came over in shock.
"Durin's beard. A girl." Fili said, rubbing her head and she seemed to calm.
"And you both share a birthday." Dis said with a smile as Fili sat down and pulled me to him.
"A Valar's Blessing." I said. Heads popped in. I chuckle.
"Come in." Fili said. The Company ran in with my brothers. I hand her to Thorin first.
"First child born in Erebor since we lost it to Smaug and first girl for Durin since your mom." Thorin said.
"Pay up." Kili, Remi, and Zarrek said. I shook my head as Fili pulled me close. Kili got his money and snatched his niece from Thorin.
"Oh she is gonna be a heartbreaker. Love to see dwarves try and court her." Kili said.
"Oh no. She won't be allowed to court." Fili growled. I shook my head.
"What's her name?" Ori asked.
"Lilian." I said.
"Fits the new Princess." Thorin said. The dwarves got to hold her.
That night. Fili POV. I stood by the fire holding Lilian as Laila slept. I had my finger in her hands.
"Thank Durin and Valar for letting me live to have the life I wanted." I whisper. I felt arms wrap around me.
"Come to bed." Laila whispered.
"You should be asleep." I said.
"I can't with ye not at my side. Come on daddy. Ye can get up with her tomorrow." Laila said, pulling me to our bed. I set Lilian in her bassinet Bofur and Bifur made for her as Laila crawled in bed. I join her and pull her to me. I fell asleep with my wife in my arms.
