Bakugo Expelled
Chapter thirty-three: The big tests
The day over at U.A. started off like any other typical morning over at Japan's top hero academy. Over in the class 1-A homeroom, the students of Aizawa were casually chatting it up, waiting for their teacher to arrive. Of particular note was the area where Bakugo and all of his friends were hanging out; the teacher wasn't there yet, so they didn't necessarily have to be in their specific seats at the moment.
"So Kirishima," Kaminari began as he turned the focus of the conversation to the crimson-haired boy in the group, "I got it from Kyoka that you're making some real considerable progress in helping Kinoko to lose all of the excess weight that she had gained."
The hardening quirk boy nodded a few times in confirmation. "Oh yeah. Granted, she's still pretty high up there in weight, but Kinoko has lost a good number of pounds." He took a sip from his water bottle before continuing. "What really helps things out here is that Kinoko very clearly has the drive to do what it takes to get her health back on track. That kind of manliness is downright inspiring if you ask me."
"She's…not a man," Sakaki remarked, a bit unsure of what to make of the crimson-haired boy's statement just now.
"You don't have to be a man to be manly."
As the fat cat girl was further confused by the enigma that was whatever it was that came out of Kirishima's mouth, everyone's attention was brought right back to the front of the classroom, where Aizawa had just walked in. Everyone gave their homeroom teacher their full attention as they went about all returning to their assigned desks in the classroom. Once he made his way to the chalkboard in the front of the classroom, the underground hero turned around to face all of his students.
The dry, indifferent look on Aizawa's face told the students of class 1-A that what their teacher had in store for all of them could not be good by any stretch; given what all the hero course students of U.A. High School had to put up with so far this year, all of them, or at the very least a good number of them, were beginning to fear the worst. Thankfully, all of those worries ended up being put to rest by the announcement that Aizawa made, with said announcement being the first words out of his mouth since entering the classroom just now.
"Your final exams for the current school year are coming up."
The classroom exploded into cheers that the big thing that they were dreading not only wasn't anywhere near as bad as they had feared, but was actually something that was considered by them to be normal for the high school experience. Aizawa actually needed to take a few seconds to get everyone to settle down. Once the students had all settled back down, the underground hero gave them a serious look.
"Look, brats, here's the deal. The final exams for this year will be testing you all on math, science, language arts and history. As such, you'll be focusing on these four subjects a fair bit more than you would on your other subjects. Given the situation with the current political climate due to the fallout of what has been dubbed by the Japanese media as 'Ryoga-gate', even your hero-related classes are going to be suspended until after the final exams are completed."
The students of class 1-A were surprised that the four subjects that the final exams were going to be testing them all on were being so much focus as they were. They were all especially surprised that it was even to the extent that the hero-related subjects were going to be put on the back burner for the time being, with Aizawa saying that the fallout of 'Ryoga-gate' had some degree of responsibility for that decision. Yaoyorozu felt a bit uncomfortable knowing that, even when arrested, the man that she refused to acknowledge still had some degree of influence on what all was going on in her life.
Seeing that his students were looking to be taking things seriously now, Aizawa held up his right hand, pointed his right finger out to the class as a whole. "The final exams will be held this time next week. You all have until then to get yourselves ready. And don't go thinking that all of this is all on just you; Edgeshot is going over what all is to be expected with the final exams with his brats over in class 1-B even as we speak."
The rest of homeroom was spent by the 1-A students asking specific questions related to lesser details that Aizawa didn't go over on the first run through of what all was going to be taking place in a week. The underground hero, with a bit of a mildly amused smirk on his face, was glad to see that his brats were taking the upcoming final exams seriously. It gave him hope that they would be giving it their all in the days leading up to the finals.
…
"Holy shitting balls!" Kaminari exclaimed after classes were done for the day; he and the rest of the group were heading back to the dorms to get a crack on studying the four specified subjects that would be expected of them, as well as those in 1-B, to brush up on for the final exams. The electric quirk user threw his hands up in the air in complaint. "Geez, with what all that has been going on, you think that the school would allow some leeway to us! Especially to me and the others who were legit straight up dead for a long time until we were resurrected recently!"
Bakugo gave Kaminari a light bop on the back of the head, getting his attention. "Chill thyself, Kaminari. We have a week to study the necessary material, and some of the students in our year of the hero course are actually pretty ace at all of this schoolwork type business. Hell, Glasses is in the same boat as you, and he's still one of the top scoring students in our year of the hero course when it comes to academics."
"I actually got it that Kinoko is the best in our year when it comes to English," Akuma remarked, "Which is surprising given that others in our year speak English more fluently than she does. I'm confident that she can be our English champion, so to speak."
"Izuku is actually tops when it comes to history, and he also ties with a few others such as Tenya in other subjects," Sakaki pointed out, "So we can try asking him for help." Bakugo gave a bit of an annoyed scowl, not liking the idea of his friends asking that damn nerd Deku for any sort of help. Bakugo himself is pretty damn good at his subjects, good enough so that he can reliably pass the finals on his own without needing Deku, or anyone else for that matter, tutoring him to help him prep.
Crossing his arms over his chest, Kirishima said, "I know that Hatsume is the best when it comes to science, so we can try asking her. Given that she knows how serious this is, we can expect her to reign in her usual level of eccentricity."
"As for math," Kaminari began, "We can always ask Yaoyo-"
The electric quirk user was cut off by Mina placing her finger against his lips, giving him the hint that she wanted him to stop talking. "…Yeah, I'm still a little iffy around her right now because of what her daddy tried to pull," Mina began, "And either way she's already helping to tutor a lot of our schoolmates to help them prep for the final exams. But don't you guys worry about a thing." The pink-skinned girl crossed her arms over her chest, wore a closed-eyed smile of self-amusement on her face.
Mina opened her eyes again as she gave all of her friends a knowing look. "I know of someone who is even better than Yaoyorozu at the math that we need to study for the final exams."
Bakugo, partly because he was led along by Akuma who was an even mix of curious and mildly amused to see what it was that Mina had in mind, went along with the rest of the squad to go visit this supposed godly math tutor that the pink-skinned girl was on about. To Bakugo's piqued surprise, Mina first led him and the rest of the squad to some random convenience store, where Mina had them pool in to buy seven items in total, one item that she said would be 'from each of them' as a form of offering slash bribe slash tribute.
The items all caught Bakugo's attention, making him wonder who all Mina said the items were for. He and Akuma supplied two glass bottles of a chocolate drink that Bakugo was able to identify as Yoo-hoo, an American drink that he got to try since his girlfriend Pony, who is half-American, got sent some by relatives of hers living in New Jersey. The rest of the boys all put three cookies-and-cream chocolate bars into the pot. As for Mina and Sakaki, they supplied two bags of some kind of snack that was the square-shaped bits of cereal with holes in them but they were coated with a flavored coating. Like the candy bars, the flavored-coating on the snack was cookies-and-cream flavored.
After they got the necessary snacks, Mina led them over to a residential area, to a specific house that Mina claimed she had been to a few times before. Approaching the front door, Mina raised her hand up, curled into a fist, and gave the front door a good solid knock. A few seconds passed, and afterwards the door opened. To the surprise of Bakugo and the others, the door ended up being answered by their classmate Tsuyu.
"The hell is Frog Face doing here, Pinky?" Bakugo asked, turning to face Mina while pointing a finger at Tsuyu, "Is she this supposed godly math tutor you were telling the others and I about while you were taking us shopping?"
Holding up her right index finger, Mina replied, "To answer your questions in order Bakugo, Tsuyu is here because this is her family's home, and no we're not here to see Tsuyu, we're here to see her little brother Samidare."
"You guys are all here to see Samidare to ask for help on studying the math material for the upcoming final exams kero?" Tsuyu asked, a bit surprised that so many of her classmates were here just to see her little brother.
Mina nodded in the affirmative, holding up the bag of snacks that she and the rest of the squad had procured before arriving. "We even brought him all of this as an incentive to get him to help us out here."
Tsuyu took a moment to look into the bag to see what all Mina and the other had gotten for her little brother. "Oh, he's going to love all of this."
"Ah, I see now," Kaminari remarked with a mildly amused look on his face, crossing his arms over his chest as he talked, "The snacks and the two bottles of chocolate drink were treats for Tsuyu's little brother to bribe slash pay him to tutor us."
Taking the bag of snacks for Samidare from Mina, Tsuyu replied, "Yes, although knowing Samidare he would have agreed to tutor you all for free."
A mildly bemused look appeared in the faces of some of the teens in the squad. "…Then why the hell did the others and I all went through the trouble of getting that stuff?" Kaminari asked.
"Because not very many people outside of my family are nice to Samidare kero."
Mina nodded a few times in agreement with what Tsuyu had just stated. "Yeah, funny thing really," Mina began. Her tone carried a hint of knowing anger at some manner of issue. "As it turns out, not very many people in this area seem willing to give Samidare a chance to prove that he can make a good mark, simply because he's on the spectrum." Mina turned to give Tsuyu a sympathetic look. "…Sorry about that, by the way. Samidare is awesome, regardless of what all small-minded idiots would think of him."
Tsuyu nodded in acknowledgement to her classmate's kind words in regards to the ten-year-old boy who was inside of the house. "Thanks, Mina. It's great to hear that kero." Tsuyu turned around and gestured for everyone to come inside. "Chances are we'll be moving all of this to the garage if there's not enough space inside. It'll be even more crowded since Fumikage and I both had the same idea as you all." With knowing nods, everyone followed Tsuyu into the house.
…
As it turned out, things were moved into the garage, where enough tables and chairs were able to be set up for everyone to sit down. A desk and chalkboard, the latter being one of those rotating deals that was on wheels, was set up in the front of the 'classroom'. Bakugo was still there, now mostly because he was curious as to how good of a job the frog-esque girl's little brother could do at tutoring the others in high school-level math.
Soon enough, the man of the hour himself entered the garage, being led in by his older sister. Samidare was at first a bit rattled to see so many people here just for him, but Tsuyu got him to relax and told him that they all wanted him to help them with math. That got the sole Asui boy to calm down enough to go over to the one desk in the front of the 'classroom' so that he could begin his job as a tutor.
Some of the boys noted with amusement that Samidare came into the garage wearing both a Ryukyu t-shirt and a Ryukyu backpack; it was Bakugo who first spotted the Ryukyu water bottle sticking out of a side pouch on the backpack. The admiration that the sole Asui boy had for the Dragoon Hero reminded Bakugo a lot of how that damn nerd Deku looked up to All Might a lot, but whereas Deku idolized the former Symbol of Peace, Samidare idolized a lady who can turn into a dragon.
…Now that the explosive teen gave the notion a little bit of thought, he can understand and appreciate why Samidare liked Ryukyu the best. She was pretty badass when you got down to it.
Then the actual tutoring finally began, and Bakugo was actually glad that he stuck around for as long as he did. What Mina had said about Samidare was true; the little boy clearly looked like could practically run circles around Yaoyorozu in math. Tsuyu later explained that, while an overall great student, Samidare excelled particularly well in math, as it was his special interest. There wasn't all that much that Bakugo could learn from Samidare's tutoring, as he was already familiar enough with what all that the 1-A and 1-B students all needed for the final exams, but the ashy-haired boy still stuck around to see all of the tutoring all the same; plain and simple, Bakugo was amused by all of what he was seeing.
Bakugo especially got a chuckle when Tokoyami, who like Kirishima and Kaminari was dead for a while before he was resurrected, was struggling a mild but notable bit, even though the material normally wasn't too bad for him. But then again, the raven-headed teen was far from the only one in the study session who was having a few issues. When Tokoyami finally got one of the questions right, he was gently applauded by the girls.
As for Samidare, he stuck his tongue out a little bit, just the tip of it mostly. It seemed to be something of a minor character tic.
When it came to science, Bakugo and the squad went to go see Hatsume. Again, although Bakugo was good enough that he could handle himself, he tagged along because he was, in all honestly, having a little bit of fun. When the squad got to Hatsume, she agreed to help them with studying science for a bit, although she did express surprise that Bakugo was there for tutoring before she got started.
Things ended up playing out similarly when the squad went to see Izuku for help with history; when they all got to the broccoli boy, they saw that Uraraka, having had the same idea as them, had beaten them to the punch as she was already there. "Umm…" Izuku said, a hint of concern in his voice as he looked over all of the seats, "…We'll be one chair short for the study session."
"I'll go grab a snack and come back when the rest of the squad is done," Bakugo replied as he turned to leave, "I'm good enough in history as is, Deku."
"Oh don't be like that, Bakugo," Uraraka remarked, "I mean, can you blame anyone for seeking out Izuku's help with studying? I'm glad that I thought of it."
Mina turned to give Uraraka a sly, knowing look. "…Try not to get too hot for teacher, eh girl?" remarked the pink-skinned girl as she gave the gravity girl a playful nudge in her right arm with her left shoulder. This elicited embarrassed blushing looks out of both Uraraka and Izuku.
…Maybe Bakugo would stay around for the history tutoring session. Who knows? It may be just as amusing overall as the first leg of the tutoring had been.
"Please help us, oh mistress of knowledge, with studying the material for English," Kirishima said as he, as well as Kaminari, Sero and Mina, all bowed their heads to Kinoko, "For our dumb brains are made of stupid and we will fail otherwise!"
The mushroom girl was a bit surprised by how much her boyfriend and some of his friends were borderline begging her for help in tutoring them in English. But she was not going to turn them away; Kinoko is tops in English after all, and given how much Kirishima had helped her out thus far in her goal of slimming back down from all of her recent weight gain (her peek weight was rather embarrassing to say out loud, but let's just say it did make her close to Sakaki), it was the least she could do for him.
The mushroom girl nodded a few times in acknowledgement. "Alright, Eijiro. I can help you and your friends here study the English material." The members of the squad who had begged for help all cheered, while Bakugo, Akuma and Sakaki looked on with looks of mild amusement. The students all found a large enough table in the communal dorm building, and Kinoko took a leading spot as the tutor for the group.
Cracking open her book, Kinoko said to the group, "Alright, everyone. We'll start with the homework from Hizashi-sensei's class today, as he said it contains material that his portion of the final exams will be covering." Looking down at her copy of the English assignment, the fat mushroom said aloud, "Question one, please define what a…" Kinoko trailed off when she read the rest of the first question. "…Oh my goodness."
Curious, Bakugo took a look at his own copy of the assignment. "…Please define what a bitch-ass n**** is?" the explosive teen read aloud in a questioning and partly confused tone. Going on further, Bakugo read more and more of the questions on the assignment from the English class taught by Present Mic. "…Now I see why Hizashi-sensei was at risk of losing his position as a teacher here a while ago." The rest of the group all nodded in agreement and decided that it was best to just go on with the tutoring session anyway.
The day of the final exams came and went. By the end of it all, everyone was ecstatic to learn that everyone in both the 1-A and 1-B classes had passed. There were a few notes of how one or two students barely passed certain sections by the skin of their teeth, but Aizawa attributed this to Hizashi once he learned what his portion of the exams had students tested on. Regardless, all of the hero course students passed all of their final exams. As such, all of them held a party to celebrate. Said party saw many of the couples among the students spend time together, with the main example being Bakugo with his girlfriend Pony.
The explosive teen still couldn't believe that what all he had gone through in such a short span of time; he was expelled from U.A., accepted into Vulcan, led said hero school to crush U.A. in a tournament, participated in a siege on the city, saw very many people get laid to rest including a few close friends, saw Vulcan shut down, got reinstated back into U.A., saw a siege on the school, trained to get ready for a team battle event against a visiting school, was actually killed in said event and got to meet friends in Asgard before being resurrected, saw the total shitstorm surrounding Endeavor and eventually Ryoga, and finally he got to experience a few staples of a normal teenage life.
Bakugo feels like all of it would have made for a decent story. But who was he to say that?
At this point, Bakugo just wanted to enjoy some quality time with his hot, half-American girlfriend.
END, CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE
Author's notes;
Yeah, big tests at the approaching end of a school year are kind of a big deal, so it goes without saying that such a topic had to be covered eventually. And I did have it so that everyone passed, because it would be bullshit if any of them failed, especially considering what all they had to go through recently. Anyway, the next chapter for this story will be the last, as I've honestly run out of ideas for chapters or this story; I'm kind of losing steam for it anyway, but the chapter that I have in mind will be a nice little end, as it will show the students of the 'legendary year' as adults, all of them successful in their own, respectable rights.
What said paths will be will have to be seen to be believed, but I'm certain a fair number of you won't be all that surprised with a lot of what will be presented.
