Hey all...sorry it took me so long to update. This chapter is a little shorter than usual, but I hope you enjoy.
Jamie and Eddie are standing in the entryway of their apartment after Frank leaves, both looking a little foolishly at the other. Eddie feels bad about the way she treated Jamie before he left, and even though Jamie thinks he figured out what upset her on his walk to the bodega for ice cream, he feels ridiculous that his dad apparently figured it out sooner and has stepped all over his apology.
After another second of silence and goofy stares, they both relinquish to each other and smile contritely as Jamie takes a step closer and Eddie reaches her arms out. He pulls her into a hug with one arm as the other still holds on to round two of Ben and Jerry's and she buries her face in his shoulder.
"I'm sorry," they whisper in unison and squeeze each other tighter. Jamie pulls away first because he wants her to know that he understands why she was so upset, at least he thinks he does, and he peers deep into her eyes as she stares up at him, hoping he's not mad at her, or at least that he's not still mad at her for the way she treated him earlier. She feels like he has every right to be.
Jamie's hand leaves her waist as he places it delicately across her cheek and his fingers grip the back of her neck softly. He can tell she is angry with herself, but he doesn't blame her and he wants her to know that. She tries to look away from him, the guilt weighing her down, but his hold on her keeps her head in place. Her eyes shift to the side though and she begins to chew the inside of her lip.
"Hey, I'm sorry I didn't realize what Danny and Erin said at dinner. I mean, I heard them, I just didn't realize at the time that it bothered you, and I should have figured it out sooner. And I shouldn't have left earlier, even though you practically kicked me out," he adds with a playful smirk as his thumb rubs circles on her cheek. "I should have stayed here and done everything I could to make you feel better."
"No, I'm sorry Jamie," Eddie says as she smiles softly up at him and places her hand over his, which is still resting on her face. "I don't know why it even bothered it," she huffs a strained laugh. "But I didn't have to act like a baby about it, and I certainly shouldn't have taken it out on you," she says remorsefully, but the smile on Jamie's face lets her know everything is okay and she smiles back up at him again. This time with a wider grin.
"It's just, this damn kid of yours, Reagan," she asserts with a smirk as she covers her stomach with her other hand, "has my hormones all over the place," she finishes and Jamie's brows crease and his smile grows wider as his eyes follow her hand down to their growing baby. "I hate that I apparently have no control over the mood swings. I'm really sorry," Eddie says genuinely. Jamie loves that Eddie is already referring to their baby as his kid when it causes problems and leans in to kiss her sweetly on the lips.
"So, you want some ice cream? Ben and Jerry's, Rocky Road," he says after ending their kiss again. They've said their apologies, now he wants to comfort her more with her favorite flavor and takes her hand as he guides her toward the kitchen.
"Oh, um…" Eddie hesitates briefly as she follows Jamie, hand in hand. She just ate half a pint with Frank and stashed the rest away for later, but she doesn't want to Jamie's gesture to seem unappreciated.
"Hey, why did my dad stop by," Jamie asks as he makes his way to the kitchen. He was curious before but his priority was Eddie and now that they've resolved the issue from earlier, he wonders what his dad was doing there, and what could have been the reason for the hug he walked in on. He let go of Eddie's hand and set the sack on the counter. Pulling out two pints of ice cream, one for now and one for later, he opens the freezer to stash the extra.
"He was…" Eddie begins, but she is interrupted by Jamie as he sees the pint of Ben and Jerry's in the freezer, that he was certain wasn't there before and turns around to face her. She has a grin on her face as Jamie points over his shoulder to the tub of ice cream and his brows spike in curiosity again.
"He brought me Rocky Road and apologized on behalf of your entire family for dinner earlier," she continues with a mischievous smirk. Of course, he did, Jamie thinks. Leave it to his father to realize the hurt feelings of his wife before he did, but all he can do is smile. If he couldn't be the one to cheer his wife up, he was glad his father was there to do it.
"Okay, well...you want this now, or later," Jamie laughs as he reaches for both pints of ice cream he just sat on the counter.
"Maybe later," Eddie smiles as she slides her arms around his waist and pushes up on the tips of her toes to press her lips against his. Jamie deepens their kiss as he pulls her closer to him. Lost in each other, they forget about the ice cream on the counter momentarily, and just as Jamie begins to guide her backward to their bedroom, she stops him. She won't let the Ben and Jerry's go to waste and pulls away long enough to shove both pints in the freezer before grabbing Jamie's hands.
Leading him into the bedroom, Eddie wraps her arms around Jamie's neck as he dives for her mouth. His hands land at her waist and graze upward along her side, slowly taking her tank top with his fingers, breaking their kiss just long enough to pull her shirt over her head. They're not rushing anything, but they are anxious to connect. They have a few hours of aggravation and frustration to make up for and they both want to remind the other just how much they love each other.
Jamie kicks his shoes off and pulls his own shirt over his head as Eddie reaches for the button of his jeans. He walks her backward and guides her down slowly to the bed as he begins to trail a soft path of kisses along her tiny baby bump and works his lips up to her breasts, to the base of her throat, and takes her lips in his again. He pauses long enough to remove his pants and returns his attention back to her, kissing her slowly again as his hands begin to remove her bottoms. They both need this right now as Jamie hovers over her she gazes into his eyes. She splays her leg slightly to the side making a perfect fit for Jamie as she welcomes his connection. Her arms glide up his back as he enters slowly and she grips his shoulders at the feeling of pleasure from her husband. She moans as he begins a gentle rocking rhythm and Jamie devours her lips as he cherishes everything about her.
Eddie was eager to get to work Monday morning, finally off desk duty, and working with Detective Davis on his open cases. It still wasn't fieldwork but it was a great opportunity for her to showcase her skills and abilities to hopefully one day earn her gold shield and she was going to take full advantage of it.
She and Jamie rode into the precinct together that morning and kissed each other goodbye for the day, outside of Jamie's office before Eddie walked upstairs to meet with Detective Davis. For the first few hours of the morning, Davis briefed her on the stack of cases he had waiting for her but offered very little insight of his own. There were about ten cases. A few aggravated assault and robberies, a carjacking, a handful of sexual assaults, which Eddie cringed at, and two kidnapping/abduction cases. Davis provided her with no direction or guidelines which she took to mean she could do whatever she needed to in order to help solve them and she welcomed the freedom.
She spent the entire day reading through the first aggravated assault and robbery case in the stack, broken up by a lunch date with Jamie at the burger joint down the street from the precinct and multiple trips to the restroom. The little Reagan baby was certainly growing fast inside her and her bladder was feeling the effects hard. It was the end of the day before she really felt familiar with the details of the first case. She wasn't sure how to best move forward though. She wondered if she should continue on to the next case in her stack and become familiar with that too, or focus her attention on what may be missing from the first one before moving on. Jamie advised her to take it slow and work on one at a time, at least for now, so not to overwhelm herself too much in the beginning and she agreed that would be best. There were no major expectations she had to meet anyway and if she could help solve just one, then she has done something good.
Eddie's twelve-week appointment went well. It was much less invasive than the first one and she was thankful for that. She'd only gained a couple of pounds and Doctor Landry was happy with her progress. Eddie was surprised by the scale though. She hadn't weighed herself home but she figured since she was already showing a little, even though it wasn't really noticeable unless you knew she was pregnant, and even then, it still wasn't noticeable to that many, she assumed she would have gained more than two pounds. They were able to hear their baby's heartbeat this time, and both their eyes glazed over at the sweet sound.
Eddie still got a weird feeling from Doctor Landry though. He seemed to be overly thrilled about her decision to work modified duty while she was pregnant. She thought about maybe finding a new doctor since she wasn't quite into her second trimester yet, but she figured since she couldn't really pinpoint anything specifically other than his interest in her and her baby's safety, she was probably just overreacting. Still, she didn't want to feel uncomfortable at every appointment so she decided if she was still feeling this way after their next visit in four weeks, she would find a new doctor.
Jamie figured if Eddie's regular doctor recommended Dr. Landry, then he must be a good doctor, but he agreed with Eddie. He didn't want her uncomfortable either. They had four weeks until they really had to think about it again though, and he didn't want her stressing over it. It was Tuesday, after all, which meant all you can eat ribs at Anton's, and an early dinner there would be the perfect distraction for his wife today.
