Section 25: Wyverns

"Good luck in your search!" Rider called after Nero and Tamamo as they departed.

"So you will lead us to La Pucelle?" Saber asked Joan.

"The general spot, anyway," Joan nodded. "We're still gonna have to do some searching, though..."

"Well, let's get moving, then," Archer stated, everyone agreeing and going off together... following Joan, the trio walked a few blocks, making a right turn and going down another block... but then, the roars of feral creatures were heard! They immediately drew their weapons as a trio of winged lizard-like monsters dropped out of the sky in front of them!

(Music- 'Splash', Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1)

"What the hell?! Dragons?!" Rider grunted as she unslung her chain.

"Not dragons, wyverns!" Joan cried as she retreated behind the others. "Dragons have four legs, wyverns have only two!" Indeed, the creatures had wings where their upper legs should have been. "Doesn't make 'em any less deadly, though!" As if to accentuate her point, the wyverns charged the party, attempting to rip them apart with their lower claws!

"Oh no you don't!" Rider managed to wrap her chain around a wyvern's foot, using it as leverage to jump on it's leg, stabbing said leg with the knife on one end! The wyvern hissed in pain, thrashing and managing to throw her off, Rider managing to roll on the ground and avoid major damage.

Meanwhile, Saber had managed to chop off another wyvern's foot outright, only to be hit by the creature's tail sending her skidding along the street! But before the wyvern could finish her, it was blocked by a shield that suddenly sprang up! "I don't think so!" declared Archer, tracing his bow and a very sharp arrow, said arrow promptly loosed and striking the wyvern in the throat, blood pouring from the wound! The wyvern collapsed as it gagged and choked to death on both the arrow and it's own blood. Another wyvern attempted to feast upon the prone Saber, only for the woman to suddenly rise and slice it's stomach open with Excalibur!

"Hope Red Saber and Caster are having an easier time than we are!" Rider grunted as she used her chain to try and tie the first wyvern's jaws shut...

*Speaking of which...*

"My magic is near useless on these things, mikon!" Tamamo cried in dismay as she and Nero tried to fend off another trio of wyverns.

"Then we'll have to stick to physical attacks!" Nero grunted as she managed to stab one wyvern in the foot. The monster tried to lash out with it's tail, only for the blonde to easily chop off a good chunk! Hissing in pain, the wyvern attempted to chomp on Nero with it's jaws, only for her to stab it through the roof of it's mouth, the blade piercing through to it's brain, killing it! The creature promptly collapsed and dematerialized like any other Neptunia enemy.

Tamamo was having a bit more trouble, as the other two wyverns had focused on her. She hit one with a double-footed kick to the stomach, knocking the wind out of it, but doing little else, the other one hit Tamamo with it's tail, knocking her head over heels! But before the winged reptile could make a meal of the fox...

"Ranbu!" Several slash wounds suddenly appeared on the wyvern's body, blood seeping out of them as the creature collapsed and bled out. A blur moved between Tamamo and the remaining wyvern, resolving into a busty redhead with three swords! "Hey, you okay?"

"Wow, thanks, mikon!" Tamamo sighed as she righted herself. "But who are you?"

"Codename: MarvelousAQL! Just call me Marvy! I'm a wandering ninja warrior of sorts!" the redhead replied. "Alright dragon, you wanna piece of me?!" The wyvern roared as it moved in to attack, only for Marvy to vanish! "Too slow!" The wyvern turned around, only to cry out in pain as one of it's wings was sliced off, causing it to collapse to the ground!

"All right, I'll finish it!" Tamamo exclaimed, jumping on the wyvern's throat and materializing an ice spike! "Bet your insides aren't as tough as your skin, mikon!" She hurled the ice spike down the wyvern's throat, the creature gagging and choking as ice and blood from an internal wound cut off it's ability to breathe! Soon, it went limp and dematerialized into hexagons that swiftly dissipated into thin air.

"Sweet job! Kinda brutal, but it worked!" Marvy complimented. Turning to the approaching Nero, she said, "Oh, is this your friend?"

"Indeed! I am Nero Claudius, codename Red Saber! You have my utmost gratitude for saving Tamamo's life!" Nero promptly bowed to the ninja.

"Think nothing of it! I just happened to be in the area! Oops, but I gotta go! I have to meet up with Nep for a gaming session! See ya!" With that, Marvy vanished in a puff of ninja smoke.

"...Is she really a ninja?" Tamamo wondered. "That kind of outfit definitely stands out in a crowd, mikon..."

"Actually, I read that the kunoichi's claim to fame is distracting their opponents so they can move in for the kill!" Nero stated. "And an outfit like that is definitely distracting! Anyway, we must move forward! Jeanne's life depends upon us!"

"Right!" Tamamo nodded. "Let's just hope we don't run into any more of those wyverns, mikon..." With that, the two set off again...

*Back with Archer and the others...*

"Sheesh, those things were brutal!" Rider grunted, a few tears in her leather jacket. "And you were completely useless!" she complained to Joan.

"Well, excuse me! I had a naginata, but it got chomped on by one of those things before you arrived!" Joan shot back.

"Alright, enough," Saber said firmly, a few scratches on her armor. "We can't allow ourselves to be torn apart by petty bickering! We must with all due haste secure that La Pucelle sword before it's too late!"

"Saber's right," Archer concurred. "Joan, lead the way. Everyone, keep your eyes peeled for more of those wyverns!"

"Right," the others agreed as they began jogging down the road...
