#021 – Spearow
Pokémon: I Choose You (Not)!
It was Ash's very first day on his journey to become a Pokémon master, allegedly. Gary, Satoshi and Hau had already taken the starter Pokémon, so Ash had been entrusted with an irritable yellow rodent who refused to go inside its Poké Ball. Said rodent was dragged by Ash for some distance with a rope around its fat waist. Ash was on the road to Viridian city and he hoped to catch a brand new Pokémon along the way.
Eventually Ash grew tired of dragging Pikachu and untied him. Pikachu declined the opportunity to walk, merely standing there with his arms folded and his nose way in the air. Still, Ash was determined to be Pikachu's friend and go on amazing adventures. Then Ash spied a Pidgey in the grass nearby. He threw a Poké Ball at it, but it escaped because it had not been weakened. Ash's Pokédex was surprisingly snarky in relaying this info to him. Pikachu ran up a tree and laughed like an idiot at Ash. More Pidgeys showed up in the grass. Pikachu refused to fight for Ash, so instead he tried throwing a rock. The Pidgeys easily dodged the attack and got away. Pikachu continued to laugh.
Ash thought he could see another Pidgey in the distance. Drumming up all of his youthful energy, Ash threw another rock as hard as he could. It hit his target squarely on the head. He celebrated for a moment, then realised that the Pokémon was not a Pidgey. The Pokédex chimed in, explaining that it was a Spearow, a Pokémon famed for its short temper. The Spearow glared at Ash and swooped at him. Then, it noticed Ash's Pikachu in the tree. Wild Pokémon tend to be exceptionally jealous of captured Pokémon for some reason. The Spearow focused its attacks on Pikachu instead of Ash. Pikachu panicked and used Thunder Shock, which was super-effective against Spearow. The Spearow shrieked and fell to the ground. However, it quickly recovered and expressed its annoyance with a loud call to arms.
Out of a tree down the road came a dozen or so more Spearows. Ash and Pikachu equally realised how much trouble they were in and gapped it. The pack of Spearows fell into hot pursuit of the duo. Ash made a promise to protect Pikachu, but Pikachu ran faster and abandoned Ash. The Spearows flew past Ash and started to peck at Pikachu's soft flesh. Ash tripped over, then could only watch as the Spearows halted Pikachu and began to pull chunks of meat off his bones. Ash punched his way through the Spearows but didn't make it to Pikachu in time. The poor thing was nigh-unrecognisable, having been torn to pieces. Some sort of spark coursed through Ash's soul. Perhaps it was the last spark from his late Pokémon partner, a partner he never had a chance to bond with. So much potential for making good memories had been lost, all thanks to these Spearow.
The spark within Ash turned into a thunderstorm of baleful emotion, his face wrinkling from his fury and his muscles tensing. It was as though he had suddenly aged two decades. Ash took one of the Spearows in his hands and with great effort, he ripped it in two. For some reason, this action caused his power to increase. The other Spearows attacked Ash. In response, he picked up a handful of stones and tossed them. The stones hit eight of the Spearows like bullets and they died instantly. In an act of desperation, the remaining Spearows called for even more reinforcements, before Ash finished them off by slamming his backpack into them.
This time, several hundred Spearows showed up, and they were pissed off. However, Ash was even more pissed off. He managed to kill off a few more Spearows using rocks, but they were too numerous. The Spearows used teamwork to whip up a Super Spearow Tornado. The tornado picked Ash up and threw him into a waterfall. Ash sank into the river at the bottom and was only kept alive by his blood-boiling fury, which was enough to heat the water up slightly. Ash noticed that a Gyarados was staring at him. He grabbed its tail and jumped out of the water with it. He used the Gyarados to smack Spearows out of the sky. This caused the Gyarados to use Hyper Beam. The beam turned into a cone of light as Ash spun Gyarados around, defeating the tornado with it. The Gyarados exploded from overloading and the Spearows broke rank, deserting the battlefield hither and thither. But Ash's fury had not subsided. All Spearowkind had to atone for their crime of killing Pikachu.
Misty was fishing at the river and she stood, utterly gobsmacked by the power demonstrated by this ten year old, who now looked old enough to pay off a mortgage. Ash mounted her bike without asking and sped off in pursuit of the retreating Spearows. He built up speed, then kicked off the ground hard. He reached an altitude double that of the Spearows and scanned for all targets. Then he ran down each cowardly Spearow in the sky, sparing none until only one remained. Ash grabbed the last Spearow by its gullet and landed the bike back on the road. He pushed this one onto the road and slowly, painfully dragged it along the tar on its back. He did this until it ceased its screeching, at which point he had finished using its "paint" to draw a tribute to his good friend that never was, Pikachu.
