Black Doom had become a devil as he was had consumed the dark aura from the Black Comet. Standing as tall as a building, he used his large black wings to take to the skies. Using the aura, he generated to destroy the black comet as it now floated around him in chunks of various sizes. In a dash of light, a figure flew at him in blinding speed. This figure was Super Sonic.
"You dare to defy me?" Devil Doom shouted towards Sonic as he used his dark power to swirl the Comet shards around him Sonic Using his speed to blast a way through but taking damage all the while, "I am the Ultimate, Sonic, I am Pure Darkness!"
Super Sonic got Close before a blast of dark energy hit him causing him to slam by a nearby comet shard. He grunted in pain but he couldn't stop. He had to stop him, for Tails. Quickly he pushed off the rock but another wave of dark energy hit him as he struggled to blast past it. Finally, he shifted gears as he rolled upwards to get past the dark energy waves as he again headed towards Devil Doom. He arrived as he struck out but Doom was faster as he slapped him away with a charged fist.
"It's not going to be THAT easy!" Doom said slashing the air as another energy wave sliced its way towards Sonic. Sonic barely had enough time to avoid but a second strike was on the way causing Super Sonic to shift his trajectory as he ran north to avoid the incoming slashes. Before another chunk of the black comet was flung in his path. SMASH! Sonic plowed right through it but it was enough to slow him as dark energy hit him. But Devil Doom didn't stop there as he quickly flung more comet pieces towards Sonic from all directions. Each of them hits their mark as they cocooned him in the rocky pieces. Smashing him hard. Doom Directed the ball of comet as it hit another larger piece.
"You think that this little defiance will mean anything?" Devil Doom said, "It will only slightly delay the inevitable. Soon, I will turn this world into darkness and feed off their fears and hatred. And there is Nothing..."
Doom Slammed the ball into another comet piece, Sonic yelping in pain.
"You..."
Another slam into a larger comet.
"Can..."
The ball was directed towards Doom as he Struck it hard with his fist causing Sonic to yell in pain as he was flung upwards. But Doom followed through as he grabbed it with his hand.
"...DO!"
Doom shouted as he dived down to the ground smashing the ball back to the ground, it crumbled some as it lost its shape and Devil Doom only stood over it.
"So much for that spark..."
Underneath the rumble was Super Sonic, hurt from the slams and being smacked with rocks on all sides. He was sore his body just wanted to lay there. But he couldn't. If he gave up it was over. Tails would never recover. And he couldn't have that.
"Chaos..."
This got the attention of Devil Doom as he turned around. How could he STILL be persisting?
"BLAST!"
A large energy erupted from where Super Sonic was, blasting through the black comet shards, vaporizing all the remained of it. Super Sonic stood up again looking over as Devil Doom had lowered his hand having covered his single arm. But something was wrong. There wasn't a scratch on him! Sonic knew he was close enough as he should have taken at least some damage from it. Yet Doom seemed to realize what Sonic was thinking.
"All that power and all you did was destroy the comet," He said before chuckling lightly, "No matter, I no longer need it. Just a shard from an ancient world."
Super Sonic wasn't about to just let it stop there as he would just give him the full force of the Energy as he Dashed over in a flash before Devil Doom could get away.
"Chaos BLAST!"
The Chaos energy blasted out at Point-blank Range, hitting its full force into its mark. Devil Doom only had time to cover his face. The blast subsided as Super Sonic looked, expecting to see a crumpled heap... but instead, he was met with a full shadowed fist from Doom causing Super Sonic to fly through the air but he quickly adjusted himself. It hurt but surely, he did something. Nothing. Still, no damage was done to the vile creature.
"Still not getting it, are you Sonic?" Devil Doom remarked before launching a series of dark energy waves at Super Sonic, "You can't stop pure darkness. Once it's consumed all there is nothing left."
Sonic worked on dodging the energy waves. There had to be a way, he refused to believe that the power of the 7 Chaos Emeralds was inferior to, whatever that Darkness was. Sonic managed to get a clean shot as he launched a small bolt of Chaos Energy towards Devil Doom's head. He watched as he swatted the bolt away.
"Pitiful," He said as he launched another quick wave as Super Sonic who was hit causing him to lose a bit of altitude before he regained himself. Though, why did he block the shot? Surely it wasn't just to mock him. Sonic looked at Devil Doom though he quickly had to evade another wave of energy coming his way. He was completely filled with that dark energy, it was wavy, pulsing, almost like a fire of darkness. All except his eye. That's when Sonic remembered. Both times he launched his Chaos Blast, Doom covered his face. That had to be his weakness!
Super Sonic charged in! Using his speed as he was going to smash right into his eye, but Devil Doom noticed the change in tactics as he began to swat him away. But with each swat Super Sonic got back up and went after it again at a different angle. Again, and again he tried and again and again he wasn't able too. Finally, Devil Doom swatted him away before following it up with a dark aura wave, hitting Super Sonic as he fell and hit the ground again. He was fast, that dark energy was giving it to him. He couldn't get close... as he needed something faster. Something strong enough to pierce through his defenses.
Devil Doom roared before flying in, this time going on the offensive. Slashing at Sonic with a wave-induced hand, Sonic did what he could to avoid the attacks but some struck home as they hurt with each blow. Super Sonic quickly managed to get some distance between him and Devil Doom again as he thought. This wasn't as easy as his attack on the Death Egg. All it took was one blast. That made Sonic ponder. That move he used then; he wasn't even thinking at the time but that move... it wasn't Chaos Blast. It went into a single direction as it was stronger and faster.
"Perhaps, I'm going at this the wrong way," Devil Doom suddenly said as Super Sonic looked out seeing him starting to change direction, "The best way to hurt a hero type, is to go after the ones he cares about."
Super Sonic's eyes went wide as he realized where he was going. The hill overlooking their location. Where Tails was. Devil Doom flapped his wings as he dashed over towards them. Sonic knew that he'd get there before him, even with his Super Sonic speed. No, He could get there another way.
"Chaos CONTROL!"
Time went on standstill as Super Sonic dashed forward as Devil Doom was nearly to the hill. He quickly dashed over as he positioned himself between Doom and Tails. He wouldn't let him hurt her. Super Sonic aimed, pointing his hand towards Devil Doom's eye.
"Chaos SPEAR!"
The words just came out as a lightning-fast bolt of Chaos Energy blasted out of Super Sonic's hand, just as time resumed. Devil Doom had no time to do anything as the blast hit home smashing through the eye and flung him backward, falling down. He was weak and barely alive as Super Sonic flew above him. The darkness seemed to be settling as Sonic new this was his chance to finish him off.
"You think you've won?" Doom managed to say in his weakened state, "I am but a part, A mere fraction..."
But Sonic didn't care as it was just more distractions.
"Chaos SPEAR!"
Another blast of Chaos Energy blasted from Super Sonic's hand; this engulfed the entirety of Devil Doom as he yelled before the rest of the weakened dark energy vaporized in the blast. When the Chaos Spear faded there was nothing left of the black alien. Super Sonic looked at the spot before turning his attention back to the hill. The GUN Commander was standing next to Tails who was still in her petrified state. Sonic flew over before landing next to Tails as the GUN Commander looked over.
"I don't know how to bring her out of it," He said rubbing the back of his head. Sonic didn't take his eyes off Tails, before pulling her into a hug.
"Tails... come back to me," Sonic said holding her tightly. He hoped that he was able to get through to her. She helped him push out his darkness and he knew that she'd continued to help him. He needed her. Slowly, life came back to Tails. Her body began to move ever so slightly as the glazed overlook was swept from her eyes.
"Sonic..."
Tails' voice sounded weak as she pulled back lightly trying to look at him, but had to squint slightly, due to the glow of Super Sonic.
"I'm here Tails," Sonic said as there was a slight smile on it, the smile only shifting to Tails as she hugged him tightly.
"I knew you'd come back," She said. She was so relieved. Sonic continued to hug her before allowing the Chaos Emeralds to leave him, reverting him back to normal as the Chaos Emeralds just fell to the ground. Soon enough, the two of them parted as Sonic looked over to the Commander. The Commander had been watching the two of them. Perhaps he was wrong. This blue hedgehog cared about the fox. Just like the other one cared about his old friend.
"Are we ok?" Sonic asked him.
"That thing was a real piece of work," The GUN Commander replied, "Getting into people's heads. But you stopped him. Saved me at least twice while doing so. That makes you ok in my book."
The GUN Commander held out a hand towards Sonic as Sonic took it.
"Thank you, Commander," Sonic said.
"Call me Julius," The Commander replied Causing Sonic to Nod. The two finished the handshake as Julius glanced over to where Black Doom had been defeated.
"We best get back to HQ," He said, "I'm sure the president will want to be debriefed."
Sonic nodded as the trio headed off.
