Ch. 28
Killian sat by Emma's bedside holding her hand gently. He was still wearing his fire pants and boots because as soon as he heard Emma had been transported to the hospital, he rushed to find her. He rubbed his hand across his still soot covered brow and sat back in the chair. He looked around the quiet white room and then back to his sleeping beauty.
She looked like an angel with her flowing blonde hair against the white pillow forming a halo behind her. He smiled thinking of how much she changed his life. It wasn't so long ago that his days consisted of a strict routine of workout, work and repeat. She brightened his life with everything she did. He loved her sassy attitude, her gumption, her fiery passion and most of all her loving spirit. He also loved how she loved him. He didn't need to hear the words from her to know it but it was certainly nice when she said them. Like music to his ears. He never felt that kind of love from anyone before and for the first time he felt complete, she made him complete.
Footsteps approaching took him out of his deep thoughts. He looked up to see David and Mary Margaret standing at the doorway. "Can we come in?" asked David.
Killian smiled and waved them in. "Nice to see you both." He said softly. David was still wearing his gear as well.
Mary Margaret walked to her bedside smoothed Emma's cover and smiled. "How is she?" she asked.
"The doctor gave her a sedative. She got a nasty bump on the back of the head but she will be alright." He said.
"David came and picked us up as soon as he was able to leave." Said Mary Margaret.
Killian looked at the police officer seated at her door and back to David. Katie had filled the police in on everything that happened at the tavern. They felt that the threat was big enough that it would be best to keep her safe until the culprits were captured. "Any news on Bo or Angus?" he asked immediately.
David nodded. "Agent Mills told me they are watching the airports and main roads leading out of town. They checked their home and everyone was gone. It seems Katie and Emma kind of threw a monkey wrench into that plan. Katie said both of them happened to walk in at the wrong time. From what it looked like in the tavern, Bo planned to disguise the arson and try to make it seem like the renovation was the cause of the fire. They think that Bo was burning the tavern to cover their tracks with the kidnapping so they could get the insurance money and keep the ransom. The police are also working on Seamus at the police station to see if they can get him to talk." Said David.
Killian nodded. "Wait, I'm sorry you said we. Where's Davie?" he asked.
Mary Margaret piped up. "He's with Anna. She's so kind. She offered to look after him for us at the firehouse so we could come over." She said sweetly.
Killian nodded. "She's come along way. She was so excited that our team won the competition." He said.
David shook his head. "You're going to keep rubbing that in, aren't you?" he said with a smirk.
Killian nodded. "Oh yes." He said.
Mary Margaret sat in the chair next to Killian. "Would you like to go home and grab a shower? We can stay with Emma if you'd like." she asked.
Killian shook his head. "No, I'm alright. She should be waking soon. I'd like to be here when she wakes up." He said.
Mary Margaret touched his hand lightly. "Are you sure? Can we get you something to eat?" She asked again.
"No, Thank you. I'm ok." He said taking a deep breath and letting it out.
Mary Margaret patted his hand gently. "Alright, well, you know we are happy to help if you need us." She said smiling sweetly.
"I promise to call you if anything comes up. Emma should wake soon. "said Killian.
"Alright, we are going to go. I'll call you if I hear anything about the Scots." Said David extending his hand to his wife to help her from the chair. Mary Margaret smiled and took it graciously. David pulled her into his side and wrapped his arm around her. "We'll see you later. Tell Emma we love her." She said smiling as they left the room.
He sat back in the chair and held Emma's hand, once again. This time he closed his eyes and said a small prayer. He must have fallen asleep because he was roused when Emma's hand moved in his.
He sat up and saw her blinking her eyes. "Killian." She whispered.
He stood and moved to her side. "I'm here Love. I'm here. You're alright. You are in the hospital because you got a nasty bump on the back of your head." He said.
She sighed. "That bastard got the drop on me. I'm so pissed at myself." She muttered.
He bent over and kissed her forehead lightly. "You're alright now. I've got you." He said.
She looked up into his beautiful baby blue eyes. "You do, don't you?" she said assuredly.
He picked up her hand and pressed a kiss to the back. "Aye. Always." He said.
She smiled. "So, where are my clothes?" she asked.
He looked at her suspiciously. "Why do you ask? You aren't thinking of going, somewhere are you?" he asked. She wrinkled her nose. "No." she said hesitantly. He sat down in the chair next to the bed and pulled it forward. "Ok. Well your jacket is here on the back of my chair. Your other clothing is in the bag on the chair next to the bed and your boots are beneath your bed." He said.
Her gaze went down and back to him. "Um, what about my little helper?" she said referring to her firearm. She knew they were not allowed in the hospital but since it was in her boot when she got here, she wanted to make sure it was safe.
He raised his brow. "Ah, it's safe in your boot as it was. I offered to help them get you into your gown when I got here. I made sure it was safely hidden." He said softly.
She felt relieved. "Any word on Bo?" she asked.
"Katie filed in the police about what happened. They are looking for Bo and Angus. I'd like to get my hands on Angus for hitting you both." He said with a growl.
She raised her brow. "You're not the only one. I was thinking, what if they are hiding in those empty buildings across the street, you know the ones you showed me on the strip?" she said.
He nodded. "That's possible." He said.
She moved to sit up and immediately laid back down. Her head was throbbing. Killian was standing again. "Wait, what are you trying to do? You don't think I'd let you leave do you?" he asked.
She took a breath and tried to speak. "But.." she protested.
Killian shook his head. "No buts about it. You are staying right here. I will tell the officer out front your theory and I will ask the nurse to bring you some pain meds." He said as he walked to the door.
"Wait! Can you ask for some juice too." She said hoarsely, still feeling the effects of the smoke she inhaled.
He smiled. "Of course. Stay put! I'll be right back." he said. When he got out to the hall, he noticed the police officer was down at the nurse's station.
"I promise." She croaked as she snuggled back into her pillow. She couldn't believe she was in the hospital. She hated feeling this vulnerable. She also hated to think about what would have happened to them if Killian and Wil hadn't found them in time. This was the least that could have happened to her. Those people needed to be stopped.
She heard footsteps coming towards the room. "Killian, any luck on the juice? I would take water if they have that." She said stopping mid-sentence when she saw the doctor come in the room. "Um, hey, sorry I thought you were my boyfriend." She said.
The doctor was wearing green surgical scrubs, covered from head to toe, including a mask. Something wasn't right. She was about to ask but noticed a slight red curl peeking out of the hat and the barrel of a gun pointed at her. She recognized that voice and quickly rolled from the bed as the crazy woman shot, adrenaline rushing in her she quickly tucked under as far as she could get. She grabbed her boots and checked each frantically until she found her little helper.
"I'm getting tired of you sticking yer nose into my business Bitch. You might have escaped the first bullet but you do know these beds have wheels." Bo said pushing the bed aside uncovering Emma. The woman's eyes raised in shock at the site of Emma's gun pointed at her. Emma didn't waste any words, she hit her twice in the right shoulder consecutively forcing the woman to drop her pistol to the floor and scream out in pain. "You Bitch!" she yelled as she tried to scramble for her gun.
At that moment Killian rushed into the room, kicked the pistol away and tackled the woman to the floor. She felt a sigh of relief. "Emma! Are you alright?" he asked while subduing the screaming woman on the floor. She was yelling obscenities in Scottish that she could only imagine what they meant.
Emma climbed from the floor back into the bed. "I'm ok. Head still hurts but I'm ok." She said tucking her little helper under the cover of her bed.
Officer Ward finally rushed into the room. His eyes went wide. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I was only gone for a minute." He said.
"It's alright, will you just please call Agent Mills and get her down here. Make sure to tell them to check those buildings." She said.
Ward nodded. "You got it." He said as he took Killian's position and cuffed the woman on the floor.
A nurse came into the room with a small tray carrying her juice, water, and pain meds. "Oh, my goodness. What happened here!" she asked excitedly.
Killian took the little tray from the nurse. "I'll take that so you can help him." He walked over to Emma and positioned her bed back to the way it was. "Here you go Love." He said.
Emma smiled. "Thank you." She said before she tossed the pain meds into her mouth and downed the juice. He leaned over and kissed her forehead, her nose and finally her lips. "You don't even need to move to find trouble do you?" he asked grinning.
She shook her head lightly, still feeling the effects of the blow. "Nope." She said plopping back against the pillow. She watched as Officer Warden and the nurse took the wild woman from her room. "Good Riddens." She said.
Killian pulled the chair back over to her side. "That was a great shot." He said.
She grinned." I have been practicing with the best. I might have picked up a few things here and there." She said yawning.
"Well, I think you should get some rest. I promise, I won't be moving from this spot." He said.
She smiled and felt herself getting pulled to sleep again. "I love you Killian."
"I love you too Emma." He said.
Regina came as soon as the officer made the call. She was able to confirm that Angus was in fact hiding in the abandoned restaurant across the street like Emma thought. That was also where they had been keeping the girls. They were trapped in the basement while they waited for the ransom. The change purse that Emma found in the refrigerator would help strengthen the case against Bo since they were officially placed at the tavern before they were moved. Once again, they were able to make the streets of Storybrooke safe. This was her town, her home and nobody was going to threaten the people she loved. They would live to fight another day.
